The opposition MMD in Northern Province has predicted that the Patriotic Front will scope tomorrow’s Senga Hills Parliamentary by-election in Mbala district.
MMD Provincial Publicity Secretary, Cephas Bwalya, says after campaigning with the PF, the MMD was satisfied that PF candidate, Kapembwa Simbao, will carry the day.
Mr Bwalya told ZANIS in an interview that the MMD in the province decided to support Mr Simbao so that he could continue with the developmental programmes initiated in the area, saying he was one of the few former MMD Parliamentarians that had delivered in their constituencies.
He noted that time had come for politicians to put their differences aside and begin working together to develop the country.
Mr. Bwalya appealed to voters in Senga to turn out in large numbers tomorrow and vote for the PF candidate.
The seat, which is being contested by PF’s Kampembwa Simbao and UPND’s Giles Yambayamba, fell vacant after nullification of the 2011 election of Kapembwa Simbao for electoral mal-practices by the Supreme Court early this year.
Meanwhile, the MMD in the province will next month hold its first ever provincial conference with a purpose of reviewing the party’s performance and strategise for the 2016 general elections.
Mr Bwalya says the conference will also afford the grassroots an opportunity to keep abreast with the party’s policies.
He said the party will bring together all the official party structures from ward level in all the districts of Northern Province.
Mr Bwalya added that over 3 000 party delegates in good standing with the party will be allowed to attend the meeting.
File: Female traditional healers of Ngangas perform a ritual during a spitirual session by Sangomas and healers from Zambia
The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has challenged political parties claiming that President Edgar Lungu is entertaining ‘Sangomas’ at State House to provide evidence of him allowing them into State House.
PF Media Committee Vice Chairperson Sunday Chanda says President Lungu has categorically stated that Zambia is a Christian nation and there is no way he is going to be entertaining Sangomas.
Mr. Chanda said the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) is attacking President Lungu unnecessarily and accusing him of hosting Sangomas at State House saying such reports are fallacious.
He said the opposition FDD should provide evidence in stead of rushing to the media claiming that the Head of State has been meeting Sangomas. He alleged that the opposition FDD survives on donor funding and that the more FDD President Edith Nawakwi and FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza makes noise the more they receive funding.
Mr. Chanda said it is very clear that the opposition FDD is one of what he has termed as ‘Kantemba political parties’ in Zambia that should not be taken seriously.
I have often said that some of the most important qualities for running a business, I learnt from my mother. She was a businesswoman in the diaspora. When our family, like thousands of others, fled Ian Smith’s racist, supremacist government of Rhodesia in the nineteen sixties, to live in the newly independent African nation of Zambia; we were essentially refugees. Whilst we did not use the now popular term “diaspora”, that is what it was. The Zambians welcomed us with open arms, and allowed us to work or even start small businesses, to sustain our families. Then as now, locals, sometimes see people coming from outside as “crowding out”, their own opportunities for jobs, and even businesses. This can lead to resentment, and even outright legislative measures being put in place. If you think it is hard to raise capital to start a small business, spare a thought for those who are from the other countries; for them it Is impossible:You cannot go to even talk to a bank.Little has changed, even in 40 years. Now here are some lessons, I learnt from my mother, in those days:
There is nothing gained by complaining
She never, ever complained, and she never allowed us to complain, but always insisted that we show respect and gratitude to our hosts. The Tentmaker, says, “whatever is good, set your mind on that…”. We were taught to see “good”… Years, later I was to learn that she was teaching us to practice something she had been taught at a mission school. It was from her, that I first learnt that YOUR ATTITUDE SETS YOUR ALTITUDE.Never allow yourself, to feel bitter,or angry, because you feel, you are not being treated right, by others.
You must save
Because we did not have access to banks, or investors, we saved everything we laid our hands on. My mother was like a little ‘squirrel’, always hiding away small amounts of money. If she made a little money, she made sure that she saved as much of it as possible, for a “rainy day”.This capacity to save money, and live within one’s means, was always taken to the extreme in our household. When I got a scholarship to go to college. My mother told me to save some of it! She would always ask me, so how much did you save? Friends, you must develop a savings culture. Even when things, are good, don’t behave, as though there is no tomorrow. Have the discipline, to save from whatever little you get, even if it is a dollar! Whenever I have seen people fail in business, sadly I usually find that they were not disciplined, in this basic and foundational area, of success:Saving must be a culture.
Be frugal with your money
My mother would be quick to rebuke me, if I did anything that was “showy”, or an attempt to impress others. We never owned a new car, as all our cars were bought as used cars. Years later, I discovered that the old lady could easily have bought herself a Mercedes anytime; she was just frugal!
Avoid Borrowing money
Relationships were incredibly precious, because they were hard to come by. And one sure way of breaking a relationship is borrowing money, and failing to give it back. We just never borrowed money from people. If we could not do something with what we had, we either waited until we had saved enough, or we did not do it. It was that simple. If you do borrow money, at some point, then be quick to give it back, but don’t make borrowing a habit.
Spare no effort in the education of your children
The other day, I read an article in an American newspaper, about Nigerians living in America. It was full of amazing statistics, about how well they are educating their children. It was an amazing story, and would have made us all proud. And that is how it should be.I could easily recognise that story, because I saw my own upbringing:If you are living in the diaspora, spare no effort in the education of your children.
Stay out of local politics, and don’t insult your hosts
I lived in South Africa, for about 10 years, before moving to London. If you go through every interview I ever gave, you will not find a single comment, I ever made about local politics.
It is far better to focus your attention on things like being a member of a good church, which links you to others, in your community, particularly one which has a lot of local members, rather than just your own countrymen, or other foreigners.
Never stop reaching out to locals
My mother always insisted that we reach out to our local Zambian neighbours, and make friends. She did not want us just hanging out with people from our own country. We were also to reach out to people of other races. Now decades later, I find that some of my oldest and most trusted friends are Zambians, I met in my childhood…… Some have done rather well for themselves, I dare say!
FILE: Late President Sata greets then Defence minister Edgar Lungu
REACTION TO POST EDITORIAL SENTIMENTS IN THEIR PUBLICATION OF TODAY, 12TH APRIL 2015 – ISSUED BY SUNDAY CHANDA, VICE CHAIRPERSON FOR PF MEDIA AND PUBLICITY COMMITTEE
LUSAKA, APRIL 12, 2015 — The Post Editorial questioning His Excellency Presidency Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s dedication and loyalty to late President Michael Sata’s vision is in bad taste and must be despised by all reasonable Zambians. While they attempt to misrepresent and dilute what President Sata stood for, Zambians know that if there is an attribute the late President had, it was that he was not vindictive. Zambians are aware that there are elements in this nation, the cartel, which thrives on holding Presidents captive but this they have found difficulty to do with President Lungu.
They would rather that President Lungu submits to them by protecting their interests while injuring those of the nation at large, all in the name of keeping with the legacy. President Lungu shall not be blackmailed into this cheap, nonsensical and childish propaganda by men and women of ill-intent for the nation. Indeed Zambians know that the axis of evil has erupted and represented by very well-known personalities.
Zambia cannot afford to allow these people in any public office of service because their agenda of self-enrichment have seen the fight against corruption, turned into a witch-hunt which has in many ways targeted those in leadership, while allowing criminal activities of the cartel to flourish. This is unacceptable and the Law enforcement agencies must act swiftly. Individuals such as Mukelebai Mukelebai, the former DPP, where hounded to death. It is the same individuals who continue to champion agendas of hate and Zambians must reject such elements for who they are.
This Cartel is known for its ferocity to destabilize Zambia through several schemes, such as eliminating perceived elements as well as misinforming citizens through its propaganda machine and that of its allies at home and in the Diaspora. They have succeeded in recruiting desperate Opposition parties in exchange for media coverage. The Patriotic Front, through its Candidate then, President Edgar Lungu, made clear during its Campaigns that Zambia is not for sale. It is neither for sale to the Cartel or its allies and it is not for sale to any other power. If any of these people want the support of Zambians, they must genuinely repent and abandon their ways!
Therefore, today’s Editorial in the Post Newspaper fails to past the morality test of questioning the morality, length, width and indeed depth of President Edgar C Lungu’s comprehension of the PF Vision which late President Michael Sata served diligently. Let it be known that President Lungu and PF shall not be dictated to by the Post Newspaper. It is not up to the Post Newspaper or indeed Rainbow Party’s Wynter Kabimba to tell Zambians the extent of dedication President Lungu attaches to the PF vision which Zambians served.
It has been said over and again that the late President Sata served the PF vision and it was on that premise that he got elected to office. President Sata never went to State House to serve an egoistic vision. His personal conviction about a better Zambia was subjected to the bigger vision of the party he founded, the Patriotic Front (PF). The PF vision is not as simplistic as the Post Newspaper Editorial and indeed Kabimba wish to portray. President Sata never founded the PF to subject it to his personal vision. He founded the PF with a vision to outlive him.
President Sata never meant for PF to become a vehicle for witch-hunt and it is those who are crying out the loudest who attempted to usurp power and control from the late President Sata so that PF becomes a vehicle to hate, hurt and injure. President Sata founded PF with a vision that had sufficient room for renewal and growth. Therefore it can be said to PF detractors that President Lungu and the PF will continue to build and grow the organizational vision for a better Zambia, an equitable Zambia and a Zambia freed from the yoke the cartel placed around its neck.
The Zambians can therefore be proud of the decision they made on 20th January 2015 because in President Edgar Lungu, they have a selfless and courageous leader who is making difficult but important decisions for the good of the Country. PF under President Lungu will not shy away from organizational renewal including building on the founding vision of one patriarch Michael Sata and his comrades. PF therefore calls on all Zambians of goodwill to dismiss the allegations raised in the Post Newspaper editorial with the contempt deserved.

Vice Chairperson: PF Media and Publicity Committee
PRESIDENT Lungu has warned that the Patriotic Front (PF) will not adopt non-performing members of Parliament in the 2016 general elections.
Speaking when he addressed a rally to drum up support for PF Chawama parliamentary candidate Lawrence Sichalwe yesterday, President Lungu said he is closely monitoring the performance of PF MPs.
“We want to make the PF strong in memory of our great leader Michael Sata. So, I am taking note of those performing and those [who are] not. Don’t be surprised if you will not be adopted in 2016,” President Lungu said.
He said President Sata left him a small radio in his office at State House which he uses to monitor debates in Parliament.
“I expected all the MPs of Lusaka to be here at this rally but they are not. I am the one who checks and ticks their register. You have one year to prove yourself. I listen to all the debates in Parliament and I know who says what,” President Lungu said.
And President Lungu says long-serving members of the PF must embrace newcomers.
He said President Sata had a forgiving heart and embraced everyone, including those who used to insult him.
“I am not a fool. Zambian politics are nomadic in nature. So, embrace those coming to join us from the UPND and MMD. This is democracy. I assess them as they come to join us. This is meant to make the PF a formidable party.
“Miles Sampa [Deputy Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry] wanted to be President and so did Given Lubinda [Minister of Agriculture and Livestock] and Chishimba Kambwili [Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services] but they came back to the fold and here we are working together,” President Lungu said.
And President Lungu says he will not allow himself to be distracted by his critics.
Mr Lungu says it is surprising that a known newspaper has elected to write negative stories about him everyday for the past seven months.
“Everyday it is ‘Chagwa’, ‘Chagwa’. I would have fallen on him but I am too busy working in order to bring development.
“President Sata left me with work to ensure that the poor are uplifted. President Sata wanted everyone to live well. That was his dream, which I am busy fulfilling,” President Lungu said.
President Lungu also said the Road Development Agency (RDA) should give road construction contracts to Zambians so that local people get jobs.
President Lungu, during his address, called Father Frank Bwalya to the podium.
“Ba Father, come and address these people,” Mr Lungu said.
Father Bwalya commended President Lungu for his strong stance against tribal politics.
“Tribalism has no room in Zambia. People want leadership. So Your Excellency, leave the job of answering detractors to us,” the clergyman said.
Meanwhile, a senior United Party for National Development (UPND) member, Paul Moonga, has joined the PF along with 280 others.
Mr Moonga said he hates the ideologies of the UPND, hence his move to ditch the party.
“Your Excellency, your critics want you to perform miracles in just two months but people are happy with your leadership,” Mr Moonga said.
And there was euphoria in Chawama after President Lungu arrived at 15:45 hours.
He disembarked from his convertible presidential Land Rover and walked a distance of over 500 metres in the company of PF Lusaka Province youth chairperson Kennedy Kamba.
People lined up the streets of Chawama for a stretch of more than five kilometres to have a glimpse of President Lungu.
“This is a presidential constituency and we will kolopa [mop] all the votes in honour of President Lungu,” said a cadre, who witnessed the President jog.
President Lungu spoke for about 40 minutes.
And President Lungu yesterday made an impromptu visit to the Hellenic Association of Zambia in Makeni after addressing a rally in Chawama.
President Lungu said he had friends before becoming President, hence his visit to the Greeks.
“Thanks for supporting me. That is why I won, I know you still support me. Hellenic community are friends to me just like the Chinese.”
“This is the beauty of ‘One Zambia, One Nation’. Some of you were born here and this is your home. I am still your friend,” President Lungu said.
He said the Hellenic community is an example of how people should live in unity.
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) media director Brian Hapunda has described Rainbow Party president Wynter Kabimba’s sentiments that the ruling party is broke as laughable.
Mr Hapunda said in an interview on Saturday that the statement attributed to Mr Kabimba that the PF is broke is unfortunate.
“It is unfortunate that he can insinuate that the PF is broke. The more he talks about the PF, the more he admires it,” Mr Hapunda said.
He said PF is not broke as alleged by Mr Kabimba.
Mr Hapunda advised Mr Kabimba to expend his energies on organising Rainbow Party instead of talking about PF.
“As PF, we are stable and there is no need to worry,’’ he said.
Mr Hapunda said Mr Kabimba is not a factor and he should have fielded parliamentary candidates in Chawama, Masaiti and Senga Hill to prove his popularity.
“Our party is more focused on delivering and attracting more people to the party,’’ Mr Hapunda said.
He wondered where Mr Kabimba got information that PF is broke when he is no longer a member.
“We are not broke and we will remain principled. We will not dip our fingers in government coffers because PF has many well-wishers,’’ he said.
Mr Kabimba was recently quoted in the media alleging that the PF is broke.
FOOD Reserve Agency (FRA) executive director Chola Kafwabulula says the agency has so far raised K264 million from the sale of 180,000 metric tonnes of maize out of 1.2 million tonnes available in strategic reserves.
Mr Kafwabulula said in an interview yesterday that FRA is cautiously selling maize in order to create space.
“We are monitoring the maize stock as advised by the vice-president. The sales are going on but at some point, we will stop,” Mr Kafwabulula said.
He said the sale of maize is meant to be a ‘balancing act’ to create room at storage sheds for this year’s harvest.
“We have a challenge with space. We are renting about 30 percent of the storage sheds from the commercial sector.
“We cannot disobey the advice of the vice- president. We are closely monitoring maize stocks,” Mr Kafwabulula said.
Ms Wina recently told FRA to handle the ongoing sale of maize with caution.
POLICE in Lusaka have retrieved bodies of a boy and man who drowned in a swimming pool at an amusement park in Lusaka.
The 17-year-old boy, identified as Aaron Manda of Kabanana township, is believed to have drowned in the swimming pool around 11:30 hours last Friday.
Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in an interview yesterday that Aaron was a pupil at Highland School in Lusaka’s Kabanana township.
At the same time, police retrieved the body of Stanley Mumba, who was aged 21.
Mr Hamoonga said both bodies are in the University Teaching Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, police in Lusaka picked up a day-old baby girl in Garden township, which was dumped at Justin Kabwe School.
“The baby is currently admitted to UTH D-block. We currently do not have details of the baby or the person who dumped it,’’ Mr Hamoonga said.
Police suspect the baby was dumped between 18:00 hours and 20:00 hours on Saturday.
DPP Mutembo Nchito
THE tribunal constituted to investigate the alleged professional misconduct of suspended Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito reconvenes today.
Tribunal secretary Mathew Zulu said the sittings will start at 09:00 hours at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
Mr Zulu said yesterday that today’s proceedings will be open to the public.
“The decision as to whether future sittings will be open to the public will be determined based on arguments in today’s proceedings,” Mr Zulu said.
The tribunal chaired by former chief justice Annel Silungwe was appointed on March 10 by President Lungu to enquire into the alleged misconduct and acts of impropriety by Mr Nchito, as provided for under Article 58, sub-article (2) and (3) of the Constitution of Zambia.
Other members of the tribunal are former chief justices Mathew Ngulube and Ernest Sakala.
The tribunal has been given eight terms of reference that include the probing of the alleged acts of impropriety by the DPP as alleged by members of the public.
They also include investigations that Mr Nchito allegedly repeatedly abused his authority by indiscriminately entering a nolle prosequi in cases in which he is alleged to have interest of his own to serve.
The tribunal has also been tasked to investigate alleged misconduct or misbehaviour of Mr Nchito, whereby on February 20, 2015, he purportedly took over prosecution of a matter before senior resident magistrate Lameck Mwale.
It has also been tasked to probe alleged misbehaviour of Mr Nchito on or about May 8, 2013, when he purportedly took over the prosecution of his known business allies Mr Fred M’membe and the Post Newspapers Limited without declaring conflict of interest.
Another term of reference will be to investigate allegations that Mr Nchito took over matters in which he has a conflict of interest relating to his business partners (Mr M’membe and the Post Newspapers Limited), Rajan Mahtani (creditor), thereby going against his statement made before the Parliamentary Select Committee of the National Assembly of Zambia.
The tribunal will recommend to the President whether Mr Nchito ought to be removed from office for the allegations.
Legendary Mighty Mufulira Wanderers were handed a football lesson by an emerging superpower when they lost 4-1 away to Zesco United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Sunday.
The defeat was 9-time champions Wanderers heaviest so far since they returned to the FAZ Super Division this year for the first time since 2005.
Goals from Cletus Chota, Winston Kalengo, Jack Mwanza and David Owino ended Mighty’s two-match fairy tale winning run that saw them flirt with a second placing on the log for the last one week.
Chota put the four-time champions ahead for the penalty spot in the 16th minute in what was one-way traffic for the defending league champions.
Winston Kalengo made it 2-0 with a header in the 27th before Jackson Mwanza capitalised on some sloppy defending by Mighty in the 38th minute to put Zesco 3-0 into the break.
Owino slotted in the fourth in the 62nd minute off a Chota corner.
Old guard Mighty’s consolation against the new order Zesco came from the penalty spot in stoppage time that was converted by Moses Lolozi.
The result sees Mighty drop from 2nd to 7th on 6 points from four games played, level with Zesco who rise from 12th to 4th with two games in hand.
Inonge Wina
Vice President, Inonge Wina has called on the Barotse Royal Establishment to invite investors in Western province.
Mrs Wina says government will only create a conducive environment for investors to operate in the country, but will not establish businesses.
She has noted that there is a delink between the BRE and government.
This is because the BRE is not advising government on matters of development in the province.
Mrs Wina has explained that President Edgar Lungu would like to see the Kuta more involved in the development of the province, through giving advice.
She says the Patriotic Front -PF- has taken note of the voting pattern and has since looked at the issues leading to the scenario.
Ruth Kamwi reports that The Vice President was speaking today in Mongu, Western province, when she met the Kuta at Limulunga palace.
Mrs. Wina has also said she has learnt the demise of Induna Kalonga, whose death she described as a loss for the entire country, as he was one of the hardworking traditional leaders.
And Acting Induna Natamoyo welcome the Vice President to the province.

President Edgar Chagwa Lungu addresses a rally to drum up Support for Chawama PF Parliamentary Candidate Lawrence Sichalwe on April 12,2015 -Picture by THOMAS NSAMA
President Edgar Lungu has castigated news outlets for allegedly attacking him warning that they risk losing readership.
In an apparent attack on the Post Newspapers, President Lungu said it is unprofessional for some newspapers to continue attacking him every day for the last three months.
He warned that such newspapers will further lose readership which he said has dwindled in the recent past.
President who spoke mostly in Nyanja was addressing a mammoth rally at Chawama grounds to drum up support for PF Chawama constituency by election candidate Lawrence Sichalwe.
‘Mwaibwelamo fimo, otherwise balimisula akale, balamisulillako, mwalapwafye nama sales yalachita drop (You should restrain yourselves sometimes otherwise you will be discredited, you are already discredited but you will be more discredited and your sales will drop,’ President Lungu said.
He added, ‘You will have no readership, what kind of a newspaper talks about one person for three months? ukomailapofye, three months Edgar Lungu, Chagwa Chagwa, Chagwa, Chawa, lekani nimuuze uyumutu ngasanzela, one day nizaka kugwila! You keep stressing the same thing for three months, Edgar Lungu, Chagwa Chagwa Chagwa, let me warm this person if he doesn’t listen, one day i will arrest you!’
At the same rally, President Lungu directed the Road Development Agency to award some contracts under the L400 to local contractors.
He said the pace at which the L400 road project is progressing is slow and worrying hence the need to speed up works.
President Lungu said the L400 road project is one which late President Michael Sata wanted executed diligently.
He said the PF government is committed to completing 400 kilometres of township roads which was launched in Chawama in 2013.
President Lungu urged all contractors working on the project to speed up the works so that people can see the project come to completion.
He said local participation in road projects is important as a way of empowering local contractors.
At the same rally, UPND member of the National Management Committee Paul Moonga rejoined the PF declaring that President Lungu is a better candidate that Hakainde Hichilema
He said he comes from the same village as Mr Hichilema but that after reflection and introspection, he has come to see that President Lungu has humility and a sense of unity for Zambia.
