UPND Chairperson for Legal Jack Mwiimbu has dismissed the statement by National Dialogue Forum Legal Counsel Tutwa Ngulube that UPND Members of Parliament who have absconded from the ongoing dialogue risk being imprisoned for six months.

Mr Ngulube who is also Kabwe Central PF Member of Parliament had threatened that all UPND MPs who are staying away from the dialogue will be dealt with by the law.

He said according to the National Dialogue Act, all MPs are obligated to attend unless with express permission of the NDF Chairperson or risk serving a six month sentence or a fine.

But UPND Legal Affairs Chairperson Jack Mwiimbu has told Mr Ngulube to “go to hell.”

“Tutwa should go to hell with his threats against the UPND Mps. Let him continue attending the discredited forum. If anything he should be happy that there’s no opposition to their ill conceived legislation. We shall meet in parliament,” Mr Mwiimbu said.

Namibia’s former Presidents Samuel Nujoma and Hifikepunye Pohamba, and Botswana’s former President Festus Mogae have returned to their respective countries after attending Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s 95th birthday.

ZANIS reports that the visiting former presidents were seen off by Zambia’s fourth republican president Rupiah Banda and other senior government officials.

Earlier in the day the visiting former Presidents who were led by former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano who is the Chairperson of the Africa Forum laid wreaths at the mausoleums of Zambia’s fallen Presidents.

This was at the Presidential burial site at the embassypark and later paid a courtesy call on President Edgar Lungu at State house.

And Former South African President Jacob Zumba has described Zambia’s Founding President Kenneth Kaunda as a symbol of dedication to the complete decolonisation of Africa.

Mr Zuma said Dr Kaunda put the country on the path of development and peace.

On the occasion to celebrate Dr Kaunda’s 95th birthday, Mr Zuma said Dr Kaunda inspired all the freedom fighters in the region and beyond.

Below is Mr Zuma’s full statement

Today we celebrate the 95th birthday of one of the greatest leaders of our people in the struggle to liberate the continent of Africa from colonialism and imperialism.

President Kenneth Kaunda led the sister people of Zambia to independence from Britain in 1964.

His government embarked on an ambitious program to raise the quality of life of his people especially in the field of education.

He understood better that the freedom of Zambia was incomplete without the liberation of the rest of the region and the continent at large.

At great cost to the country he did not flinch from providing material and diplomatic support and sanctuary to the liberation struggles led by the African National Congress of South Africa, Front for the Liberation of Mozambique, South West African People’s Organization, as well as the Zimbabwe African People’s Union and Zimbabwe African National Union.

It was from Zambia that the combined forces of Umkhonto WeSizwe, the military wing of the ANC together with the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army of ZAPU, infiltrated then Southern Rhodesia to fight the occupation army of the settler regime led by Ian Smith and supported by the Apartheid regime of South Africa in the Wanki and Sipolilo Campaigns in 1967 and 1968.

Under his leadership the Zambian government embarked on a systematic program of nationalizing key industries that were wholly owned by foreign companies.

These measures for full national sovereignty were however disrupted by a sharp drop in the international price of copper which was by far the main source of foreign exchange.
The economic transformation of the country was dealt a mortal blow as Zambia was force-fed with the poisonous prescriptions of the International Monetary Fund, including the requirement to scale back on investment in human development.

To minimise dependence on South African ports and harbours the government of Zambia was compelled to construct the TAZARA rail line to Dar es Salaam with the support of China.

President Kaunda inspired all the freedom fighters in the region and beyond.

He is a symbol of dedication to the complete decolonisation of Africa and putting on the path of development and peace.

Zambia was home from home for many leaders and combatants of Umkhonto WeSizwe between various deployments. Late President Oliver Tambo operated from Lusaka for over two decades.

Together with Presidents Muwalimu Julius Nyerere of Tanzania and Sir Seretse Khama of Botswana President Kaunda founded the Frontline States that were later joined by Angola an Mozambique in 1975 and Zimbabwe in 1979.

Such was the stature of President Kaunda that the Apartheid regime of John Vorster tried to win him over in its plans to maintain its grip on South and South West Africa/Namibia. He made it clear that his support for freedom for the sister people of these countries was unshakeable.

President Kaunda is a recipient of the South African National Order of Companions of Oliver Tambo in Gold for exceptional contribution in the struggle against apartheid and for justice in the southern African region.

We who come after him have benefited and continue to draw from his wisdom, generosity and steadfastness in belief in humanism and building a better Africa and a better world.

Unity, peace and development in the Southern African Development community and indeed the continent as a whole is an achievement of great statesmen like President Kaunda and his peers.

As we confront the relentless attempts by imperialistic forces to defeat our revolutions in the region we are happy to have you President Kaunda as a guide and fountain of inspiration to resist their machinations.

We shall continue to strive to silence the guns and build a prosperous Africa.
We join the leaders and sister people of Zambia to wish Good Health!

Long may you live and inspire many

North Western Province has not seen much development because of opposition MPs-Davies Mwila

PF Secretary general Davies Mwila
PF Secretary general Davies Mwila

Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Hon Davies Mwila says a larger part of North Western Province has not seen much development because in 2016, electorates in the region voted for a party (UPND) whose leadership punishes and expels its elected officials that choose to work with government in fostering development.

“The opposition can not bring township roads. The opposition can not bring schools. The opposition can not bring health posts. The opposition can not bring boreholes so that you can access clean water because UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has directed his elected officials never to work with government.

“Not too long ago, he suspended and expelled the then UPND Kafue Council Chairperson Thomas Zulu for having joined His Excellency, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu during a cleaning exercise at the district marked! We are coming from a by-election in Kafue as a result of that decision and we won the by-election,” announced Hon Mwila.

And the Secretary General says in the coming days, he will meet with former UPND Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba to strategise on how the ruling party can further dismantle the opposition political party.

On Tuesday, 23 April, 2019, Mr Mwamba resigned from the UPND and announced his decision to rejoin the Patriotic Front at a Press Conference held at his Plot 187 Luanshya Road, Villa Elizabeth property amidst great jubilation from hundreds of his supporters who defected together with him.

Mr Mwamba has resolved to work with the Head of State in ensuring that Hakainde Hichilema does not rule Zambia in the next 40 years.

“Now I need my supporters to guide me on the way forward. We have three options here because I believe in democracy – I have three questions for you; should we form our own political party, join an opposition political party or do I take you back to PF?” Asked Mr Mwamba amidst great jubilation, clenched Fists and shouts of PF.

Meanwhile, Hon Mwila has reiterated that contrary to social media speculation, the Patriotic Front has welcomed the former UPND Vice President with open arms and that the ruling party is keen to work with Mr Mwamba in its grassroots mobilisation.

Speaking from Kalumbila district in North Western Province, Saturday, where he was receiving over 1000 defectors from the opposition UPND, MMD and FDD including 13 Headmen, the ruling party CEO applauded the Jackson Kungo led provincial party leadership for their active mobilisation in the region.

“I commend you Chairman Kungo, member of the Central Committee, for your committee’s hardwork and dedication to party mobilisation which has resulted in the PF’s victory in the majority of the by-elections held here in North Western. We now have 12 new Councillors on the PF in the region and soon, I will be coming back to meet and encourage them as we mobilise the party towards the 2021 general elections. We must remember that the strength of any political party is in its ability to effectively mobilise and win the elections,” announced Hon Mwila.

SG Mwila has thanked His Royal Highness, Chief Matebo of the Kaonde speaking people, the Indunas and other traditional leaders who attended the party mobilisation exercise for their continued support.

Indunas who attended the meeting includes Kayamba, Shitonyi, Shilenda, Shamaoma and Kapempa. And other group leaders were Kyangakyanga, Mukonga, Njifupa, Kasambala, Kapiji, Sambulu, Ndembi, Bulo, Kolala, Kiboko, Kitakwa, Kakoshi, Kisulo, Kasongo, Kipaya, Mwanante, Mwepu and Kilabisho.

Hon Mwila was accompanied by member of the Central Committee Annie Kayula and the Deputy Media Director Antonio Mwanza.

HH is a troubled soul who needs Healing, UPND should seek alternative leadership-GBM

Former Vice President for the United Party for National Development Mr Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has described opposition leader Mr Hakainde Hichilema as a troubled soul in need of healing.

Mr Mwamba said that he was convinced beyond any reasonable doubt, having worked with HH for four years, that the opposition leader is not worthy of being President because the man is a Mr Know it all who never listerns to advice.

Mr Mwamba said this during a live radio program on radio Mano in Kasama last evening.

Mr Mwamba further dismissed as ridiculous speculations that he has been paid by the PF to discredit the UPND stating that his politics have always been such that he gives and not takes just as he funded the UPND excessively.

He stated that even when he was in UPND, he used to fund that Party just as when he was in PF previously and therefore his rejoining of the Patriotic Front is purely due to the conclusion that PF and President Lungu is way better than HH and UPND.

He stated that the frequency with which HH discards Vice Presidents in UPND is proof of a man who fails to work with others which is one of the surest signs of bad leadership. He has advised the members of the UPND to seek alternative leadership.

Mr Mwamba has described President Lungu as a selfless leader who has plenty humility.

Mr Mwamba who once served in the Patriotic Front government as Defence Minister says having worked with President Lungu for several years, he would safely say the Head of State is definitely better than Hichilema who he deputised in the UPND.

Mr Mwamba urged the People of Zambia to appreciate the impeccable leadership of President Lungu.

And Mr Mwamba has apologized to the President and the Patriotic Front membership for the unpalatable language he sometimes used against them whilst in the UPND.

He further said that his decision to rejoin the PF was purely because he had realized his mistake at having gone to the UPND and not that he was job seeking in PF.

He said he would work hard with the PF leadership to ensure UPND is sent into oblivion.

Mr Mwamba was last week suspended from the United Party for National Development and has since resigned from that Party to rejoin the Patriotic Front where he served as Defence Minister a couple of years ago.

MUZA coach Dabwitso Nkhoma says big teams are favoured

MUZA FC coach Dabwitso Nkhoma has accused referees of favouring big teams in the Super Division after his team’s 2-1 loss at Nkana on Saturday in Kitwe.

Chingola referee Emmanuel Bwalya was in charge when MUZA gave away 1-0 half time lead to lose 2-1 in this round 14 match.

In a post match interview at Nkana Stadium, Nkhoma said his Mazabuka side didn’t deserve to lose to Nkana.

“I think it was a 50-50 affair. We created some chances but we couldn’t utilise them,” he said.

“But the officiating was very pathetic. We had a penalty but they didn’t blow, there were so many fails against us but they didn’t blow. Being a big team they (Nkana) are not winning on merit,” Nkhoma said.

“These so called big teams have an upper-hand through the referees otherwise I am not convinced the way they are playing,” he added.

With four matches left to play in the transitional season, Muza are bottom of Pool B with six points from 14 matches.

Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi admitted MUZA were tough.

“Looking at MUZA they gave us a good run. It was a tough game. They scored first but we had to work hard to equalise. I am happy with the result we have collected maximum points. We needed this win,” Chambeshi said.

Chambeshi opposed Nkhoma’s allegation that Nkana won with the referees help.

“The best team carried the day. I didn’t see anything wrong with the referees. We scored beautiful goals and they can’t argue or blame the referee. Maybe Muza can blame their defenders for lack of concentration,” he said.

Nkana are seventh on the table with 15 points from 10 matches played.

Do We Zambians Know What We don’t Know?

Introduction

A few years after Zambia’s independence from 70 years of British colonialism in 1964, the veteran hard-hitting journalist and TV Sunday Interview host Charles Mando had the opportunity for the first time in his life to travel to the Western world to Canada. When he flew back to Zambia a few days later, one of his first comments was memorable. I remember him saying with shock or surprise something to the effect that (this is not a quote) …”I saw Bazungu that were very poor. Many bazungu were poorer than me; they were street sweepers, beggars, and toilet cleaners. I never realized bazungu are so poor too in the Western countries they come from.”

The vast majority of the ordinary 15.7 million Zambians and over a billion Africans on the continent have been made to believe that all white Europeans are rich. This muzungu superiority racial myth was  inculcated in all of us Zambians since European explorers first came to Africa going back to the 1600s. I would have believed the same myth of all white Europeans being rich or wealthy had I not travelled to the Western world about 6 years after Charles Mando had made his memorable comments.

This article addresses the issue of us Zambians who have lived in the country all our lives without ever going outside the country, “Do You Know What You Don’t Know?” Do you know sometimes that you don’t know what you don’t know? Why is it important to know, not just what you know or have learned through formal education text books and the news, but to know what you don’t know about foreigners from the outside world who come to live in Zambia? After all, knowledge is power. After all, people who know that you don’t know will have power over you. On the other hand, if you know what you don’t know and come to know what you previously did not know, you become a strong person who will be liberated from mental slavery as Bob Marley the great Raggae  singer would say.

Do You Know What You Don’t Know?

Why am I writing this article? Is it to cause Zambians to hate all foreigners or stoke xenophobia as is the case in some countries that I won’t mention? Is it to needlessly criticize and humiliate even Zambians who are very educated? Is it to create suspicion, dividedness and animosity between the various groups, tribes, ethnic groups, as some would still say to use the bogus term “races”,  that live peacefully in non-racial Zambia motherland? Since the 1600s we have had people of various ethnicities live in and explore Zambia; the Soli and Lenje people were some of the earliest to settle in Central Zambia. White Europeans including the British, the Scottish, the Portuguese, the Dutch, and Indians from India lived in Zambia. To day we have the Chinese that economically dominate not just us but the world, the Filipinos, Somalis, Greeks, Italians, the Japanese and many others.   Why is it important for us to know what we don’t know about the histories, origins, and the home country back grounds of these people including our own history as Zambians and Africans?

Times have Changed

Before 1964, the 3.5 million Zambians generally lived in rural villages with members of the large extended family who included numerous grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, nieces, and cousins. Vital knowledge and history were transmitted through the older kinship or family members teaching younger members. But today after 55 years and so many drastic population, cultural changes and movements including globalization, we Zambians are in grave danger of completely losing the transmission of this knowledge.

The population of Zambia is 15.7 million. The proportion of the country that is under 14 years old is 46.0%, those between 15 and 24 years old are 20%, those between 25 to 54 years old are 27.9% and but those between 55 and 64 years old are only 3.0% and those above 65 years old are even smaller at 2.9%. The age statistics that are the most important for the crucial possible important role in understanding what we Zambians don’t know that we don’t know are that Zambians that are younger than 30 years old may be about 73.9% of the population which is about 11.6 million young girls, boys, women and men. And yet those who are over 55 years old are only 5.9% which is only 926,300. Therefore, there are fewer elders to day in Zambia to teach younger people about our history, customs, and our culture perhaps due to the high death rate of older Zambians who are over 55 years old because of the  HIV/AIDS epidemic and other diseases since the 1980s. Urbanization also takes its toll as the 39.4% of the urban population is rising.

What does all this mean? This means increasing numbers of Zambians lose their connection to rural areas where the source, strength and origin of our traditions and some of our indigenous knowledge are the strongest. The total number of Zambians who have migrated in search of better opportunities and live in the Zambia Diaspora abroad is 1.4% of the population or 219,800. This population of Zambians increasingly has children who may have limited knowledge or no direct connection to the Zambian society they love.  They would also need to know what they don’t know besides the often only very negative stories that they might read about Zambia their father or mother homeland.

Zambia Best Country in the World

Zambia is the best country to live in because of the people and the geography. If you don’t know what you don’t know you will be stunned or not believe me. Compared to some other people and other societies we are very friendly to each other and love each other. We have our own disagreements, but we generally love each other. Ignorance is a very strong term just as primitive is also a very strong term. But if you don’t know the details of the lives of other societies, you will think Zambia is very bad or the worst. But it is often because you don’t know what you don’t know. I myself did not know what I didn’t know until I travelled and especially read about other societies. Zambia is one of the most peaceful and ethnically integrated societies in spite having 72 tribes. The praise and tremendous credit must be given to President Kaunda and all the numerous founders of our country who chose the motto One Zambia One Nation and the policy of  a non-racial and non-tribal society. All of us Zambians have lived through this peaceful era over the last 55 years.

The geography and climate of Zambia is  one of the best. It is not too cold, or too hot and humid. It is dry, sunny and warm for about 6 months of the year. Most of the foreigners who came in the past and even now love the weather and climate. All of these countries such as Japan, China, United States, European countries, Russia, and even some countries in Africa and South America may not have the best climates. In some of these countries some tribes, races, and peoples hate and still kill each and their women and girls have fewer rights. Some of them may even be richer than Zambians. In fact, it was the late great scholar Ali Mazrui who said that may Europeans in the 1700s and 1800ss migrated to Africa including Zambia because the weather and climate here was so much better than in Europe. This is true even today. But if you are a Zambian and you don’t know what you don’t know, you will not believe all that has been said.

If you want to become a better Zambian citizen, please you should answer these questions for yourself: Do you know what you know? Do you know what you don’t know? Are you in a condition in which you don’t know what you don’t know? Do foreigners know that you as a Zambian you know what they don’t know? Some foreigners know what you don’t know which makes you very vulnerable to manipulation. You as a Zambian you should also know what you don’t know about foreigners and other foreign societies. When you have found answers to all the knowns, the unknowns, the known knowns and unknowns, then you will be a truly educated Zambian.

James Chamanga brace downs Lusaka Dynamos

6

Ex-Chipolopolo striker James Chamanga starred for his new club Red Arrows on Sunday with a brace in a 2-1 away win over Lusaka Dynamos at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

The goals were Chamanga’s first since he returned home a month ago and joined Arrows following a decade-and-a-half abroad that had taken him from the South African PSL to the Chinese Super League.

Both goals came in the opening first half to help Arrows jump from fifth to third displacing Dynamos from that spot after Sunday’s results.

Chamanga struck in the first minute after firing a pass from Bruce Musakanya.

But Arrows defender Elvis Bissong scored an own-goal in the 24th minute to hand Dynamos the equalizer.

However, Chamanga put Arrows back ahead the 27th minute when he beat two Dynamos defender and goalkeeper Monga Ndala.

Dynamos then suffered a major setback in their bid to come back when the league s top scorer on 9 goals Chris Mugalu was stretchered off with a suspected concussion in the 35th minute.

Arrows have 24 points, tied with second placed Zesco United but are both two points adrift of Pool A leaders Zanaco with four games left to play.

Dynamos drop to fourth on 23 points.

Meanwhile in Pool B, Green Eagles failed to open a six point lead after a 0-0 away draw at Nkwazi.

The draw denied Eagles an opportunity to collect three successive away games since they beat Buildcon 1-0 away in Ndola on Good Friday to exchange places in the top two.

Eagles followed that result with a 4-1 away win over Nkana in Kitwe on April 24.

Eagles have 28 points four more than Buildcon and third placed Nkwazi.

Zambia marks 26th Gabon disaster anniversary

5

Zambia on Sunday marked the 26th anniversary of the 1993 Gabon disaster that claimed the National Soccer Team.

Several people flocked to the Heroes Ace located outside the Independence Stadium in Lusaka to pay homage to the heroes.

The squad was on its way to Senegal for a 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifier when the plane plunged into the Atlantic Ocean near Libreville.

“26 years ago I lost my teammates, brothers and family,” soccer icon Kalusha Bwalya twitted.

Most of the victims were Kalusha’s peers.

“Their memory will never die in my heart. You continue to inspire many Zambian & African football generations,” Kalusha added.

18 players, technical staff, a FAZ chairman, crew members and a journalist were killed.

UPND Convenes in South Africa to raise Funds for 2021 General Elections

The Opposition United Party for national Development (UPND) convened at Sandton Conference Centre, with about 200 hundred UPND members from three countries for a Mobilization Conference organised by the UPND South Africa 2021 Chapter.

The mobilisation conference which was graced by party Secretary General Stephen Katuka drew about 30 participants from Zambia, 4 leaders from Botswana and the rest came from within South African being the host country.

Mr Katuka said the initiative of SA 2021 Chapter to mobilise for UPND on the South African soil was not a new thing in as far as politics was concerned in Southern Africa.

“The Africa National Congress (ANC) set up base on the Zambian soil to mobilize the party during the liberation struggle of Southern Africa. ANC took advantage of our peace and stability to strategise and mobilise the party from Zambia and it worked.

Therefore, the SA 2021 Chapter is in order to moblise for the UPND from here in the rainbow nation. We need to take advantage of the strong economy and some opportunities available in South Africa to mobilize for 2021,” Katuka said.

The UPND SA 2021 Chapter Chairperson, Bizwell Mutale invited Hounorable Romeo Kang’ombe to the front and said that his victory in Sesheke was an example of the sweet presidential victory that shall be delivered in 2021 by UPND for the people of Zambia.

“Through this mobilisation conference, we are gathering momentum for 2021 and our wheels are steadly turning on a journey whose final destination is Sate House.

When you are buying a car, you dont just buy a car for the sake of it; you look for a brand that represents your image. Undoubtedly, president Hakainde Hichilema, is a great brand that represents the type of leadership the people of Zambia need today.”

And speaking at the same function, National Chairperson for Stategy and Mobilization, Sylvia Masabo described the UPND SA 2021 Chapter as one among the best in terms of visibility in party work, and patriculary in mobilization efforts.

She said the major patners in the effort to mobilize membership for the party were through the departments of Youth and Women Affairs, especially.

“Women and Youths are very interested in voting because they feel the brant of bad governance and the sitation under the PF has digenerated to unpreccedented low levels.

In terms of comparison from 1964 to date, the current PF government, stands out as the worst administration Zambia has had since independence and people who are suffering the most are women and youths,” said Masebo.

If the department of Staragey and Mobilisation is not working well enough in UPND it shall be very difficult to win any elections, especially the 2021 presidential and general elections.

Masebo also emphasized that if the mobilization efforts being done by SA 2021 Chapter were replicated by the party in Zambia from branch to National level, UPND could have easily been winning every election.

“The function of Mobiliation cuts across all sectors inncluding the Media Depeartment becuase though media, we can be heard and be seen, and people make a decision to vote based on what they hear and see in a political party.

An effective media department in the UPND is critical in the sucess of mobilisation. Without an effective media department, mobilization shall low down and possibly drind to a halt.” Masebo said.

She also quoted the statement made by UPND President Hakainde Hichilema on 27th February 2021 regarding mobilization.

Quote; ” We are here to ensure that we are organised to win the elections in 2021. Although we won the elections, both in 2015 and 2016 presidential and general elections, we have to ensure that we are ready to protect the vote so that we do not just win the elections but we should be able to take over the government; and taking over govenment includes ensuring that we are sworn in.

The leadership of the party must understand and articulate the reasons why the people should support and join the UPND. This is also true for those of our members, you must understand what the party will do once in govenment. In short understand your party policies, namifesto and programs,” Unquote.

And National Chairperson in charge of Youth Affairs, Likando Mufalali told the gathering that the party was not seeking change of government out of jelousy but in the sense of restoring hope and dignity for the people of Zambia.

“For us to win the 2021 elections we have to be very simple and very objective too. As UPND Youths our job must be that of teaching people and not to compete in singing campaign songs and chanting political slogans.

Our focus should be about teaching people regarding what has gone wrong in the country to eneble them appreciate why voting for UPND and our beloved President HH is the only option Zambians have in 2021,” said Mufalali.

And Sesheke Central lawmaker Honourable Romeo Kango’mbe thanked SA 2021 Chapter for endorsing the candidature of president Hakainde for 2021 adding that he saw no other leader capable to lead the party as of now.

“If UPND is to form government in 2021, there is no another leader as at now other than president Hakainde Hichilema and I thank the Chapter for endordsing his candidature for 2021,” Hon. Kangombe said.

Earlier, the Secretary General of SA 2021 Chapter, Ishmael Chong’ombe explained that they had a specific mission with a spacific target in mind.

He said that the key to effective mobilisation is to get involved is all activities and and grow the party from strenght to strength to strenght . Already, there shall be the Anderson Mazoka Soccer Tournament on 11 May 2021 in Johannesburg.

It was very encouraging to see Lazarous Mulenfwe a 19 year old Zambian Student at Water College take a solo lead in singing the South African National Anthem at the opening of the Mobilization Conference.

Among some notable persons present was Macenje Mazoka, the daughter of the founding president of the UPND. She is a Trustee – SA 2021 Chapter

An Analysis of Zambia’s moral decay – Chitimukulu

17

By Henry Kanyanta Sosala

PART I

Preamble.

I would in the first remiss if I do not tell a little bit about myself. I am a free-thinker and a free-thinker is supposed to be audacious i.e., to be extremely bold, daring, recklessly brave and fearless. I believe that conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth. To conform means thinking as the crowd thinks. It is a system of misdirection that makes one exhibit a behaviour called ‘’herd mentality.’’ And I am therefore totally liberated because one of the tenets of being a free-thinker is the ability to tell people what they need to know, rather than what they want to hear.

I personally believe that we as a nation have lost the moral compass. And this therefore makes my article the most controversial because I have singlehandedly gone against the accepted ‘’normal’’ Zambian principles on sex morality since I can never subscribe to the current scenario of ’’liberated sex.’’

The greatest problem is the ‘’Bantu’’ type of education which was especially designed for Africa that teaches ‘’what to think,’’ and not ‘’how to think.’’ And therefore the majority of our African intellectuals are victims of this strait-jacketing. The image of the human mind is infinitely malleable, capable of being reformed, transformed and rectified without limit. And this is the area where ‘’Bantu’’ education system actively plays its role since character and thought patterns can be directed to desired ends and whoever controls the mind, controls the man. And so the type of education you receive will direct the way you approach the whole spectrum of life. King Solomon wrote: ‘’Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.’’

The Genius of the Imperialist.

Who is an imperialist or a capitalist-exploiter? Irvin Babbitt in his book Democracy and Leadership wrote: “…..the man who stands for nothing higher than the law of cunning and the law of force, and so is, in the sense I have sought to define imperialistic.” The imperialist has an instinct or genius for colonizing. The imperialist or capitalist-exploiter has sharpened his exploiting techniques to the edge of a razor. The capitalist-exploiter is a great strategist and he is as well blessed with the gift of wit and he leads with truth but never to truth. He cannot exploit the continent without first demoralizing the inhabitants

And therefore one of the strategies to achieve the total domination of the African has been to instill self-despise into our minds. Dr. Kaunda in ’’A Humanist in Africa’’ wrote: ‘’The colonialists set out to destroy an African’s self-confidence. They dinned into his mind the idea that we were primitive, backward and degraded, and but for their presence amongst us, we would be living like animals. The result is that even today in an independent African state, you will find a certain sector of the population suffering from a Bwana complex. They cannot stand on their own feet as free men but must look over their shoulder all the time for the approval of the white man.’’

And to the contrary, Professor Rene Dumont in his book, ‘’False Start in Africa’’ wrote: ‘’ African civilizations reached a kind of apogee in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, earlier around Benin. African blacksmiths knew how to work gold, copper, bronze and even iron, the latter as early as the time of our Lord Jesus Christ. They thus surpassed the oceanic civilizations, like those of pre-Columbus America, in technique development. The system of cultivation practiced at the time, working the earth with hoes after clearing it with fires and rotation of fallow lands is still used today with rare modifications.…. However, no one knows where agrarian African civilization would be today if it had been able to follow a normal development, in peaceful contact with European techniques. But, alas, this development was brusquely arrested, and we are still paying for the crimes of our white ancestors, who believed that they were free to do anything, endowed as they were with ‘innate superiority’.’’

The answer lies in what Lord Macaulay told the British Parliament on 2nd February, 1835: ‘’I have travelled across the length and breadth of Africa and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such caliber, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage and therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, if the Africans think that all that is foreign is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native culture and they will become what we want, a truly dominated nation.’’

And it is unfortunate that because of mis-education, today many educated Zambians wrongly believe that their cultural heritage is derived from their education and conscious approximation to the western living standards. None can overlook the fact that the western man has brought a lot of civilization to Africa, but it comes with a sly danger, because while celebrating the generous donor aid and such privileges as learning and enlightenment, it can easily blind us to who we really are and come to the fatal conclusion that the white man is the measure of all things. This perverted mentality has subverted the African personality like no other ideology.

For example, in an article African Culture and Development, Simeo Siame wrote: ‘’Culture for what?….it is futile to mobilize thousands of manpower to paddle a big boat or spend days and nights dancing round a bonfire, when such manpower should have been at points of economic production….this culture can no longer be a tool for modernization and economic development..’’

And what actually lies under this blinding type of education? in his book ‘’The Sociology of Black Africa’’ Professor Georges Balandier talks of ‘’the psychology of colonization,’’ which sets the Europeanized African into a transformation of the whole mentality as he enters the heart of western logic and the role of imitation which occurs in a variety of manifestations and the apparent duplicity leads to mental conflict of being ‘’like an actor playing two parts.’’ And other sociologists say, ‘’the conflict produces doubt and fogginess of mind, resulting in lack of balance and reasoning.’’ In fact anthropological research have revealed ‘’mental conflicts’’ resulting from ‘’the too rapid development of individualism.’’ R. Firth, carried out a research in West African countries under British influence on neuroses and psychoses and variety of mental disturbances that affect so many of the peasants when they start to work in industrial enterprises. This simply means that many of those half-clever town-dwellers who think that they are ‘’jacked-up’’ (ukucampuka kwa bu mbuli nangu ukusambilila kwa mungulu weka weka) are mere mental patients.

You can see how after 180 years (i.e. 1832-2012), we have become prey to Lord Macaulay’s strategy and endorsed cultural genocide in the useless foreign-drafted Constitution which I had strongly opposed and I was only supported by Professor Muna Ndulo, a US-based constitution lawyer. And according to the Report of the Technical Committee on Drafting the Zambian Constitution: ‘’Part V on Bill of Rights, Article 63: Language and Culture states in 63 (3): A person shall not be compelled to- (a) perform, observe, participate in, or be subjected to, any cultural practice or rite; or (b) form, join, contribute, maintain or pay allegiance to any cultural, traditional or linguistic association, organization, institution or entity.’’

The only thing worse than being blind is having sight without vision. And It is general knowledge that no one forces anybody to do what have been stated above i.e., who goes overseas to force the tourists who flock to watch the highly celebrated and magnificent Kuomboka ceremony? The question is the motive behind the inclusion of such in the Constitution which is actually in line with Lord Macaulay’s proposal and traditional rulers should carefully note: ‘’….NOT to maintain or pay allegiance to any cultural, traditional or linguistic institution..’’ The big question is: Was not the useless Constitution advocating the abolition of chieftainship?

The useless Constitution was the product of NGOs. In fact it has been alleged that the Members of the National Assembly have surrendered their powers of decisions to the civil society groups. The former Germany envoy, His Excellency, Erich Kristof said that the National Assembly was his major disappointment since his arrival in the country. It was strange to observe that the National Assembly didn’t play a major role in many national matters despite of being elected representatives of the people. ”I wish the National Assembly being elected representatives of  the people can be proactive when dealing with national matters instead of the civil society. The civil society is not elected….the chiefs should also play a major role in areas where government is not present.” (Sunday Post 10th July 2005)

The truth is that the civil society groups are given programmes by their sponsors on strategies _____ they are boxed in a coffin-like narrowness of vision and thereby suffocate their creative imaginations. Admittedly, some of the individuals in the civil society groups have the best brains, but they have to follow instructions. And hence there is loss of sovereignty over self; loss of power, dignity, morality and debility

. Let me now take you back in order to clearly understand what I am talking about. In 2003, President Mwanawasa initiated the national indaba in order to try and gauge the general consensus on national issues from the supposed top cream in our society. And according to Gazette No. 587 of 2003, the majority of the participants were drawn from the NGO groups. However, a lawyer in attendance summed it up in these frightening words: ‘’What we saw in the indaba was that decisions were made through mob psychology. Those who shouted the loudest carried the day.’

On the other hand, the ‘’clever’’ who had lamentably failed to come up with an ‘’economic road map’’ at the national indaba, eventually received the ‘’constitution road map,’’ with well-coached blinding slogans like, ‘’people driven constitution’’; ‘’Zambia’s back-bone’’ and these were backed up by well-calculated mob psychological propaganda materials like, ‘’Mwanawasa must respect the will of the people’’; ‘’the people have spoken.’’

And according to the then finance minister, Ng’andu Magande, the money given to NGOs was not properly accounted for and the donors don’t ask how and where it had been taken. (Zambia Daily Mail 21st June 2007). The then South African President, P.W. Botha once said: ‘’……. the white man would use the African’s love of money to destroy himself……..here is a creature who lacks foresight.’’ (TO BE CONTINUED)

President Edgar Lungu has said that his government has embarked on a transformational agenda of attaining Universal Health Coverage using an integrated community based primary health care approach because he believes that Zambia will only prosper if the citizens are healthy. .

The President said this when he launched the market community health initiative at the new Soweto market in Lusaka yesterday morning.

The President stated that the market initiative is a demonstration of governments commitment to deliver health services as close to the citizens as possible.

He said the initiative will provide a contemporary model for addressing health service provision across the continuum of care in congregate settings and would leave no one behind.

“The market community health initiative is aimed at serving our citizens who may otherwise have difficulty in accessing preventive and basic curative health services because they are busy engaging in various economic activities. As a caring government which understands the challenges traders especially women go through to access health services from distance places away from their trading places, we have come up with this initiative that creates an opportunity for traders and shoppers to easily access health services at their convenience,” he said.

He directed the Ministries of Health, local government and Infrastructure and housing to establish community health facilities at big markets and bus stations countrywide as doing so would enable more people access the much needed health services.

And President Lungu who has bemoaned the high incidence of Non Communicable Diseases in the nation has also directed the Minister of Health, Hon. Chitalu Chilufya to ensure that more community health facilities are opened to enable men access health services as they are usually reluctant to seek health services until its too late.

“Today, it is not unusual for men to present in our clinics and hospitals with advanced Communicable and non communicable diseases. We cannot allow this to continue,” he said.

He took time to urge the corporate world and other cooperating partners to partner with the Ministry of Health in ensuring that health services are taken to households, work places, places of worship and trading places among others.

He commended the Ministry of Health and the Marketeers Credit Association, the Commuters Rights Association of Zambia and the Organized Vendors and traders association for supporting the initiative.
