Chiyangi insists Nkana still in the league race

2

Coach Aggrey Chiyangi has insisted that Nkana are still in the race to win the FAZ Super Division title despite their recent stuttering form.

Second placed Nkana who have 54 points from 28 matches have picked four points from their last three matches.

Nkana are seven points behind leaders Zanaco who also have two un-played matches.

“It is not yet over, we still have many games to play. We have to continue fighting despite dropping points because other teams can also drop points,” Chiyangi said.

He said it was regrettable that Nkana have dropped many points in recent matches.

Nkana on Sunday drew 2-2 at Mufulira Wanderers a week after losing 1-0 to Green Buffaloes in Kitwe.

“Our players must understand how important all games are. Dropping points has made us go backward,” Chiyangi said.

Nkana are remaining with six games in the current league campaign.

WEEKEND SCORECARD: Kola recalled by Wedson

1

Wedson Nyirenda has handed a late call-up to striker Rogers Kola of Israeli club Hapoel Ra’anana.

Kola ends his two-year exile from the team after replacing Kaizer Chiefs striker Lewis Macha who is still nursing an injury that he sustained on August 30 during Zambia’s training camp before the September 4 game against Kenya.

And seven out of the nine foreign-based players have joined Zambia camp in Ndola.

Collins Mbesuma, Winston Kalengo, Nathan Sinkala, Rainford Kalaba, Kabaso Chongo and Kennedy Mweene were all part of Monday training together with Kola.

Chisamba Lungu of FC Ural in Russia is expected on Tuesday.

Lille defender Defender Stopilla Sunzu is surprisingly expected on Wednesday despite warming the bench in Saturday’s French Ligue 1 home game against Nancy that his club won 1-0.

Meanwhile, Zesco United midfielder Misheck Chaila has been brought back into the team just 24 hours after he was dropped together with nine other domestic based players.

In The Kitchen With Kanta : Spiced Carrot and Butternut Soup

In-The-Kitchen-With-Kanta-Logo (1)

carrot-soup

This is a recipe that I swear by. This Spiced Carrot and Butternut soup is so tasty and filling, it’s perfect for those cold nights in snuggled up by the fire; and it’s healthy, fast and easy to make.  The great thing about it is you can cook it in bulk and freeze it; this will only make it more flavoursome and spicy.  So if you are a bit uninspired with your cooking, and want to have something quick, but healthy, then opt for this soup; you won’t regret it.

10 mins Prep | 35 mins Cooking

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp low fat cooking oil/ cooking spray
  • 300g Carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 400g Butternut squash, peeled, deseeded and chopped
  • 1 tbsp medium curry powder
  • 2 litres hot vegetable stock
  • 2 tsps olive oil
  • 2 large red onions, thinly slice
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste.

Method

On a medium heat add your cooking oil to a large saucepan.  Add the carrots, butternut and curry powder and fry for 3 minutes.  Add the stock, bring to a boil, cover it and reduce the heat.  Allow it to simmer for 20 minutes, until the vegetables are soft.

Pour everything into a blender, or use a hand held blender to blend until it is completely smooth.

Now heat the olive oil in a separate frying pan, and cook the onions over a medium heat for 5-10 minutes – until they are golden and crispy; season with salt and pepper.

Serving

Serve the soup garnished with either the crispy onions or with freshly chopped coriander; and a side of fresh bread. Enjoy.

PF Propaganda will not distract me from insisting the 2016 Election Petition be heard

46
Dr Nevers Mumba during the news briefing
Dr Nevers Mumba during the news briefing

Current desperate attempts by the PF propaganda machinery to distract my attention from insisting that the 2016 Election petition be heard will not succeed. Reports circulating from PF circles that I have resigned from the MMD Presidency and joined the UPND as Vice-President are typical of PF lies and are a total fabrication and should be completely dismissed with the contempt they deserve. I firmly remain the democratically elected President of the MMD until end of my five-year term as per our MMD Party Constitution.

The nation is well aware that the MMD National Executive Committee sanctioned the party to enter into a strategic electoral alliance with the UPND in the 2016 General Election and a Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was consequently signed between our two parties on 26th May, 2016 to formalize the alliance. We remain two distinct political parties.

Our position has been made very clear that an illegality no matter how rushed or ‘sugar-coated,’ remains an illegality. We stand by our position that the stated outcome of the 2016 Election that PF won is an illegality and that the UPND election was stolen. If Zambia decides to keep quiet at this crucial hour, we will have created a ‘monster’ that will consume all democratic and judicial institutions in our beloved country and eventually Zambians will have nowhere to run to for justice.

This fight is not for me personally, nor for HH but for mother Zambia and posterity.

The MoU betwen our two parties states that our alliance will remain in force until the election outcome is conclusively and legally determined and the rightful winner announced. We do not subscribe to the assertion in certain quarters that we ‘must move on’ as a nation because its too late. We therefore wish to assure our alliance partners and the many Zambians who have been alarmed and concerned by the PF propaganda, of our unflinching support and cooperation until the petition is heard.

Our position is that the failure by the Constitutional Court to conduct itself appropriately in the last election has caused serious tensions and divisions in the country which can only be resolved when the petition is heard.

As I explained to the nation recently, we have made a decision to peacefully exhaust all local legal avenues to have the petition heard, and if all fails, Zambia being part of the global village with protocols with international legal bodies, reserves the right to persue all international legal channels to present the opposition petition to these bodies to help determine the true result of the 2016 election.

Our insistence on this approach should not be misunderstood as being treasonous as is being suggested in certain circles. As a Masters Graduate in Public Policy and Governance, I have a moral responsibility which is strongly influenced by my Christian values, to introduce politics of Morality and Integrity in our nation, strongly undergirded by democratic tenets, the rule of law and good governance. The 2016 General Election has provided a valuable test case for me to appreciate the huge amount of work that still needs to be done.

I have a deep personal conviction that this generation should not stand by and watch the blatant assault on democracy and the complete disregard and abbrogation of the rule of law in our country but courageously stand up and fight for the kind of country we wish to leave for our children and children’s children. Millions of Zambians are desperate for someone to speak for them and stand up to challenge the frightening levels of lawlessness that have engulfed our nation under the PF regime.

Since 1964, Zambia has been a pioneer nation for freedom, good governance and the rule of law in the region and beyond. KK and late Frederick Chiluba played their part. It is now our turn to carry this torch forward.

We are therefore determined to follow the legacy of political luminaries like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr, who persued a non-violent path to freedom until they overcame. We have set our case clearly that violence will not be tolerated and are grateful that so far, all opposition cadres have heeded this call. Zambia is a Christian and peaceful country and we have the capacity to resolve our challenges peacefully without losing any lives.

In conclusion, the cheap and misleading PF propaganda aimed at distracting our attention from the matter at hand is understood because they are terrified of the combined strength and resolve of the opposition to PURSUE AND RECOVER ALL and re-set a new agenda for political freedom, tolerance and good governance in our great country.

Understandly, some in this fight will fall by the way-side due to their unclear purpose as to why they joined politics in the first place. That is expected. Some have already fallen and some more may still join them. But I believe that in every generation, God reserves an incorruptible, patriotic and determined remnant that He will depend on to liberate a country from corruption, violence and lawlessness and achieve justice for all, irrespctive of colour, creed, gender or ethnicity.

The PF propaganda efforts will therefore not work and is a pursuit in futility.
There is only one way out of this PF predicament. The petition must be heard and the rightful righful winner announced.

Stay away, Kambwili tells UPND MPs

53
Chief Government Spokesman Chishimba Kambwili
Chishimba Kambwili

Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili has charged that the UPND Members of Parliament should not even attempt to enter the chambers of Parliament and be part of the business of the House after boycotting the official opening of the National Assembly by President Edgar Lungu.

And Mr Kambwili said Speaker of the National Assembly should consider taking disciplinary action against all the UPND MPs for boycotting the official opening of the National Assembly by President Edgar Lungu on Friday.

But the UPND MPs have vowed that they would be in Parliament today as the House resumes its sitting and debate the Presidential speech despite having boycotted its official opening to receive the presidential speech.

Mr Kambwili said it was illogical for the UPND legislators to start attending sessions in Parliament when they refused to recognise President Lungu who had convened the House.

Mr Kambwili, who is Patriotic Front (PF) Roan Member of Parliament, said it did not make sense for the UPND lawmakers to return to Parliament and contribute to the business of the House after declaring that they did not recognise President Lungu.

He said the UPND MPs and their entire leadership had declared that they would not recognise President Lungu and could, therefore, not return to the House which was officially opened by the President they did not recognise.

He wondered why the MPs were eager to debate President Lungu’s speech during his state of the nation address when they did not recognise the Head of State as having been legitimately elected.

Mr Kambwili said if the UPND did not recognise President Lungu, then the opposition party should have nothing to do with his speech and should, therefore, permanently stay away from the current session of Parliament.

Bailiffs pounce on Stanbic Bank

22

Vehicles, the main computer Saver and various pieces of office equipment that were recently seized from Stanbic Bank Zambia Head Office by bailiffs from the Sheriffs of Zambia office will tomorrow be auctioned.

Four Toyota Hilux vehicles, a Hino Truck, a Nissan Van and a computer server are all part of the assets belonging to Stanbic that will be auctioned on Wednesday.

Other pieces of office equipment include Lounge suites, photocopiers, office chairs, carpets, refrigerators, fillings and microwaves and others to many to mention.

This follows a High Court ruling which granted Savenda Management Services damages amounting to K192.5m against Stanbic Bank Zambia for loss of business resulting from its negative credit agency listing.

Justice Justin Chashi awarded damages to Savenda for losing significant contracts after being reported by Stanbic bank to the Credit Reference Bureau for defaulting on instalments.

Justice Chashi found the non-payments were the bank’s fault and made other findings that will affect relations between other businesses and their bankers.

The auction will commence in the afternoon at the Sheriff’s office at Kambala road in the Light Industrial area while a similar auction of the saver and other bank equipment will take place at the Bank’s Headquarters on the same the afternoon.

Investrust Bank posts huge losses

12

investrust
Investrust Bank Plc recorded a loss after tax of K19.75Mn for the half-year ended 30 June 2016.

Total interest income increased by 9% mainly due to the increase in interest rates adjustments following the increase in the BoZ Policy rate and lifting of interest rate capping in November 2015.

However, total operating income decreased by 20% as a result of high funding costs which saw an increase in total interest expense by 34% due to tight market liquidity in both the local currency money market money market and foreign exchange market.

The high interest expense was attributed to the sustained higher proportion of term deposits on the total deposits portfolio averaging 50% coupled with high interest rates that had hit as much as 34% on major huge amounts placed by institutional investors.

However, total operating and other administrative costs reduced due to prudent cost control measures and interventions that management has put in place.

Its financial position reduced by 12% in 2016, with total assets decreasing to K1 293Mn as at 30 June 2016 against K1 473Mn recorded during the same period in 2015.

The reduction in total assets was largely due to reduction of customer deposits and reduced cash holdings and investments in government securities.

The Bank says despite operating in an environment characterised by tight kwacha liquidity, high funding costs and high interest rates, the bank has focused on expenditure control and sourcing cheaper deposits.

It says focus for the second quarter continues to be on aggressive deposit mobilisation as well as to diversify the deposit base by reducing reliance on expensive term deposits.

“The model of restructuring the bank branches from being processing centres to a more sales oriented model will continue as a key driver for growth during the second quarter of 2016. This is intended to allocate more resources on client portfolio growth through aggressive sales of retail and corporate liability products,” it said in a statement.

It added, “To cope with the likelihood of increased loan defaults due to high interest rates, the Bank has strengthened its credit underwriting processes and intensified staff training in that area to ensure maintenance of a quality loan book.”

“Risk acceptance criteria and policies are also constantly reviewed in line with changing risk trends. Recoveries efforts on all past due loans has been enhanced through a dedicated Recoveries team. In addition, specialised recovery firms are being appointed to ensure focussed recovery efforts. Where necessary, legal action has been instituted.”

The Bank says it anticipates to grow its business in the near future through consolidation of its operations and increasing the client base and product offerings and uptake.
The Bank remains focused on achieving planned operating results through execution of its strategic objectives.

During the first half of the year, the Bank raised K40 million via a Rights offer in order to boost its Regulatory capital.

CHILDREN In The Wilderness (CITW) has urged the Government to invest more in Early Childhood Education if the nation is to have well educated and responsible citizens.

CITW is a non?profit organisation supported by ecotourism company Wilderness Safaris that aims to facilitate sustainable conservation through leadership development and education of rural children in Africa.

CITW programmes manager James Mwanza said the backbone of any country’s quality education lies in children who are supposed to have quality Early Childhood Education.

Mr Mwanza said this during the opening of a five days literacy training workshop for 25 Zambian and Zimbabwean teachers based in Livingstone, Kazungula, Victoria Falls town and Hwange at Richland Lodge in Livingstone yesterday.

The teachers are drawn from Nalituwe, Holy Cross, Simoonga and Twabuka primary schools in Livingstone and Jabulani,Nfundweni and Musiotunya primary schools in Victoria Falls and Hwange respectively.

The training workshop is being held in partnership Wordworks a non-profit organisation established in 2005 to support and improve the literacy and language development of children from disadvantaged communities in South Africa.

He said his organisation had learnt that children needed to have opportunities to build their competence and understanding in the areas of language skills such as vocabulary and comprehension and code related skills such as sound knowledge.

Mr Mwanza said the objective of the training was to equip teachers with new methods on how they could provide lessons to their pupils in a more effective and productive manner.

“We are targeting teachers who are handling Pre-school, grade one and two classes because we want them to develop the knowledge and skills they need to teach children in Early Childhood Education effectively.

“We decided to focus on early childhood education because evidence shows how important language and literacy foundations are for all school learning.

“Children who have developed language and literacy capabilities when they start grade one go on to become better readers and writers,”Mr Mwanza said.

He further disclosed that Early Childhood Education was important in ensuring that children had the necessary foundations to learn to read and write successfully.

NGOCC impressed with response from Northern and Luapula to end Child Marriages

NGOCC Executive Director Director Engwase talks women in Chief Chungu’s area in Luwingu

Non-Governmental Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Executive Director Engwase Mwale is elated with the response the people of Luapula and Northern Provinces have given after the campaign to end Child Marriages was launched 18th may, 2016, reports Pan African Radio Journalist Hermit Hachilonde.

In the wake of escalating levels of early marriages in Zambia, the NGOCC embarked on a community project dubbed ending child marriages in Luapula and Northern provinces to arrest the vice.

Speaking with the committee members alongside the IM Swedish Development Partner Regional Director Southern Africa Maria Kempe who is one of the funders for the project after paying a courtesy call on Sub-Chief Mulala of Northern Province on Saturday the 1st October, 2016, Engwase Mwale Mr. Mwale assured the villagers that NGOCC will remain committed to end Child Marriages in Zambia.

“Am happy with your response towards this project and am assuring you that as NGOCC we will remain committed to end child marriages in Zambia” Ms. Mwale said

During the discussion the committee members disclosed that at least six-nine girls have gone back to school in Chief mulala’s area due to the NGOCC’s door to door campaign to curb early marriage in the province.

The Committee Members added that even boys are now are going back to school, affirming that so far twenty-five boys have gone back to school due to the same NGOCC project.

Meanwhile, in Chieftainess Mwenda of Northern province it was revealed that parents have retrieved eighteen who were married off at tender age after the sensitization, confirming that the girls are now ready to continue with school.

Towards the end of the year 2015, the NGOCC carried a research on early Marriages in Zambia and found that the number of girls married off at a tender age was very high in mulala, katuta and Chibaye Chiefdoms and on that account the NGOCC was prompted to initiate the program in Northern and Luapula.

It was also discovered that teenage pregnancies rate in the named three chiefdoms was about 87 percent which was alarmingly high a trend which the NGOCC described as a source of grave concern.

Meanwhile, the IM Swedish Development Partner Regional Director Southern Africa Maria Kempe equally expressed happiness with NGOCC’s engagement with villagers regarding early marriages in Zambia and the response from the villagers.

“Am impressed with you people with response to the NGOCC project” Ms. Maria Kempe said

Bishop Chihana urges President Lungu to address rumours of purging in the civil service

104

IFCC President Bishop Simon Chihana
IFCC President Bishop Simon Chihana

IFCC President Bishop Simon Chihana says unconfirmed reports that President Lungu has dismissed senior officers from named provinces is a recipes for increased fears of a divided Zambia and has called on the President to address the matter for purposes of clarification.

Bishop Chihana said civil servants especially those from the security wings are scared of losing their jobs as a result of the rumours that some of their tribes men have been purged from the service.

He said it is prudent for the President to address the issue because it has a bearing on the security of the nation and that ethnic divisions must be discouraged in the country.

“The unconfirmed reports that President Lungu has dismissed more than 300 (three hundred) senior officers from their jobs because of originating from the named provinces, Northwestern, Western and Southern, increases the fears of a torn Zambia. People working in the civil service and the security of the nation have developed unprecedented fears concerning their positions and jobs if they are coming from the named provinces.

“President Lungu must come out in the open and address these fears which have developed. The President must address them because they have a bearing on the security of the nation and also people of various regions may continue to feel as one Zambia and one people. Ethnic divisions must be discouraged at all costs by everyone of us and the President has an opportunity to show the nation that he is national and not regional and that the unconfirmed reports of dismissing senior officers from the security wings of our nation is false,” he said.

He added that if true, dismissing such a number of civil servants does nothing but simply create a huge danger for his leadership as the country is very big.

“It must also be known and understood that dismissing such a number does not bring any cleansing of any kind, but simply creates a very big danger for his own leadership, because Zambia is very big and many of us Zambians are intermarried and therefore information is as close as the mouth is to ear and it is very vital to promote peace and unity of our country among all people.

“And the demonstration President Lungu has given by standing to defend the vice President, Mrs. Inonge Wina is good for the country and he must do more than that, by not dismissing the senior officers just because they come from Southern, Northwestern and Western provinces,” he said.

Chilekwa Petitions Speaker to Declare Vacant the 58 seats held by Oppostion UPND

113

president-edgar-lungu-sweaing-in-dr-patrick-matibine-as-speaker-of-national-assembly-at-statehouse-in-lusaka-7635A private Citizen has Petitioned the speaker of the national Assembly Dr Patrick matibini to declare the 58 parliamentary seats held by the opposition United party for National Development (UPND) VACANT.

In a Petition received by Office of the Assistant to the Speaker, Mr Emmanuel Chilekwa asked the office of the speaker not to allow the 58 UPND MPs to attend any or whole of this Parliamentary session because they abandoned their Constitutional rights and duty to be in Parliament on the official opening of the First Session of the 12th National Assembly by President Edgar Lungu, which took place on Friday, September 30, 2016.

Below is the full Petition served on the Speaker

Dear Mr. Speaker,

PETITION AGAINST THE 58 UPND MPS, CALLING FOR THEIR REMOVAL FOR CONTRAVENING THE REPUBLICAN CONSTITUTION AND CALL TO DECLARE THEIR OFFICES VACANT – ARTICLE 72(2)(C).

In exercise of my Constitutional duties, UPHOLDING its protection and defense, I, Emmanuel Chilekwa, 53, a Zambian citizen, hereby PETITION your Office to declare the 58 parliamentary seats, VACANT and petition your Office not to allow the 58 UPND MPs to attend any or whole of this Parliamentary session because they abandoned their Constitutional rights and duty to be in Parliament on the official opening of the First Session of the 12th National Assembly by President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, which took place on Friday, September 30, 2016.

Mr. Speaker, the ceremonial opening of the National Assembly is very special in that it provides an opportunity for the head of State to present his speech, highlighting a number of salient issues to the members of Parliament and the people of Zambia at large.

My duty, as a citizen, in guaranteed to defend and protect the Constitution as outlined in Article 2 of the Republican Constitution, which reads:

2. Every person has the right and duty to—
(a) Defend this Constitution; and
(b) Resist or prevent a person from overthrowing, suspending or illegally abrogating this Constitution.

Mr. Speaker, by virtue of the MPs abandoning Parliament, they have illegally abrogated the Constitution and therefore, rendered their offices vacant in accordance with Article 72 (2) (c) of Act No. 2 of 2016, being the Constitution of Zambia.

The said Act, Mr. Speaker, Article 72 (2) (c) states that “The office of Member of Parliament becomes VACANT if the member— (c) acts contrary to a prescribed code of conduct;”

Mr. Speaker, it is Mandatory that the purpose of having a Member of Parliament is to be in the House, which House the 58 UPND MPs abandoned on the said date.

Further, Mr. Speaker, Article 63 clearly spells out the role of the Members of Parliament. The UPND MPs walk out renders them incapable of contributing to making the laws which inevitably, Mr. Speaker, will have to be ASSENTED to by the same Republican President, whom they have brought into disrepute, or whom they do not regard, thereby OVERTHROWING the Constitution. Therefore, the 58 MPs cannot contribute to any law which will end up being assented to by the same person they do not regard.

Mr. Speaker, this cannot be allowed.

The President, Mr. Speaker, outlines the roadmap on activities that will boost economic and social growth in the country for the next five years. This momentous occasion is non-partisan.

Surprisingly, United Party for National Development members of Parliament (UPND) boycotted the opening of the first session of the 12th National Assembly.

Mr. Speaker, in line with your sworn oath to uphold, defend and protect the Constitution, I petition your Office to enforce Article 57. (1) and declare the 58 seats vacant, therefore, fresh elections must be held in the stipulated 90 day window, upon you declaring them vacant.

Article 57 (1) says, “Where a vacancy occurs in the office of Member of Parliament, mayor, council chairperson or councillor, a by-election shall be held within ninety days of the occurrence of the vacancy.”

Mr. Speaker, there is no argument that the 58 UPND MPs did not follow the Parliamentary Standing Orders as enumerated in Article 67. (6) “A Member of Parliament who intends to challenge a Statutory Instrument, on its constitutionality, shall follow the procedure laid down in the Standing Orders of the National Assembly.

Mr. Speaker, in exercise of my Constitutional right and duty enshrined in Article 88. (1) “A citizen may petition the National Assembly to initiate the enactment, amendment or repeal of legislation.” (2) “A citizen may comment on a deliberation, statement or decision of the National Assembly.”

Mr. Speaker, I am petitioning your Office to declare the 58 seats held by the UPND MPs, VACANT.

Mr. Speaker, the law is very clear on how the Office of MP becomes vacant Article 72 (2) (c) states that The office of Member of Parliament becomes vacant if the member “acts contrary to a prescribed code of conduct”;

I await to receive your profound response to this Petition, Mr. Speaker.

Yours faithfully,
Emmanuel Chilekwa

UPND justifies MPs walkout

65

The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has justified the Members of Parliament’s (MPs) decision to boycott  President Edgar Lungu’s official opening of Parliament last week.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says the UPND does not recognize President Edgar Lungu as duly elected hence the boycott of his parliamentary address by its MPs.

Mr. Kakoma noted that UPND MPs will only be attending parliamentary sittings when necessary.

All the 58 UPND MPs stayed away from the ceremonial opening of Parliament by President Lungu last week on Friday.

But the Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) is disappointed with UPND MPs who boycotted the ceremonial opening of parliament by President Edgar Lungu.

ZANASU outgoing vice President Prince Ndoyi says time for politicking is over and that there is no need to hold the Zambians hostage.

He said it is completely unreasonable for the UPND MPs to abscond attending to their parliamentary duties when they promised to represent and serve the people in their respective constituencies.

Mr. Ndoyi explained that much as the MPs may have their own reasons for their action; there is no justification for their boycott.

He has reminded MPs that they do not represent the interests of the party, but serve the interests of the Zambians in their respective constituencies.

Government says it has adopted deliberate policies that will address gender inequality in the country in line with the United Nations(UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).

Gender Permanent Secretary  Edwidge Mutale  stated that government’s wish is to ensure that all women and girls in Zambia attain the same level with men by ensuring that women and girls are educated.

ZANIS reports that Ms Mutale said this when she lectured pupils at Kabulonga Girls Secondary school in Lusaka today on gender equality dubbed the World’s largest lesson.
She observed that days are gone when women were not economically viable and considered to make decisions affecting the country’s economic, social, and political landscape.

The permanent secretary bemoaned that few women were elected to political positions during the just ended general elections owing  to lack of grade 12 qualification.

Meanwhile, United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Zambia Deputy Representative  Shadrick Omol said the UN agency will continue to work with the government, Civil Society and Communities to encourage Women and  Girls to have equal opportunities to be heard and access to opportunities in life.
Mr Imol stressed that despite the achievements in education enrollment rates the country has achieved, retention and completion remain a challenge especially for girls.

The UN official noted that more boys than girls complete school in Zambia and that only 65 percent of girls complete primary education.
The World’s largest lesson is a UNICEF initiative under the Global Goals Campaign to teach Children in over 100 countries about the new SDG’S that were adopted by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in September 2015.
