In the lunchtime kickoff, Power came from behind to beat Forest Rangers 2-1.
Power because the first top five club this season to beat Forest at home in Ndola after Zanaco, Green Buffaloes and Zesco all fell there.
But Power had to crawl from one-down to collect the three points when their ex-striker Kobe Chipeta haunted them in the 16th minute to put Forest ahead.
Power replied with two breathtaking free kicks from Kelvin Mubanga in the 23rd and 73rd minutes to collect the win.
Power move to 46 points, four behind second placed Nkana whom they host in the big Kitwe derby this Saturday at Arthur Davies Stadium.
And in the late kickoff, Zesco recorded their third draw in four games when they were held 0-0 by Green Eagles.
Eagles goalkeeper Satchmo Chakawaa was the busier man in this match denying Idris Mbombo in the 51st minute and Cletus Chama twice in the 82nd and 89th minutes.
Mathews Nkowani also had a go, but fired wide a glorious shot in the 84th minute off a layoff from Chama.

The English dictionary describes the word ‘Governance’ as “the process of decision-making and the process by which decisions are implemented (or not implemented)”. While ‘Good governance’ is an indeterminate term used in the international development literature to describe how public institutions conduct public affairs and manage public resources.
Zambia will have five (5) years with a new president in office. How the president will perform will partially be according to how we choose to treat him. The citizens of a country can make a good leader and can also build a dictator and a bad leader just from the way we react to issues and address our leaders. We have the powers to choose our destiny as citizens.
Zambia is at a very critical point in our history after the passing on of two incumbent presidents within the space of six years. This is no doubt one of the reasons why our country has been unstable for the last few years. This is a time I believe the president (Which ever one it is) will have to make some very difficult decisions to serve the country’s economy from further collapse.
We need a good manager with proper advisers to redeem ourselves and put Zambia en route to prosperity. As citizens we will have to play our part in ensuring that we help the government run this county properly. We must continue providing checks and balances without fear or favour. We need to state the reality as it is at all times and we must put the interest of the nation at heart. Those in power will have to realise that they are voted into office to work for the people and not to enrich their own pockets and advance personal agendas.
Good governance has eight (8) major characteristics. It is participatory, consensus oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive and follows the rule of law. Good governance assures that corruption is minimized, the views of minorities are taken into account and that the voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard in decision-making. It is also responsive to the present and future needs of society. This is what good governance would look like if put under the microscope.
Good governance further requires a fair legal framework that is enforced impartially. It also requires full protection of human rights and impartial enforcement of laws under an independent judicial system free from any form interference.
The participation of young people is a key cornerstone of good governance. Young people must rise up and realise their potential, we must begin interrogating ourselves and start participating in the governance of our country either direct or through legitimate intermediate institutions or representatives. We must also understand that representative democracy does not necessarily mean that the concerns of the most vulnerable in society would be taken into consideration in decision making all the time.
We don’t need to go and through stones and attack each other or demonstrate or riot on the streets and think that we are expressing ourselves. That is simply being subjects in a society that requires citizens. Our participation in governance needs to be well informed and organized. This means freedom of association and expression on the one hand and an organized civil society on the other hand. We need to express ourselves within the confines of the law. We break the law, we break our backs, we break the faith, we break the chains of freedom and we go behind bars where our voices will never be heard again. Young people must have integrity and distinguish good from bad.
I pray and hope that we can use the next five (5) years to place Zambia in the right path for the generations to come. I am hopeful that the next cabinet will not be full of selfish individuals that will be more interested in creating wealth for themselves and forget about ‘us’ who put them in office. I am also hopeful that the head of state will try by all means and fight the evident tribalism and regional politics that has characterised our society. Everyone must be treated equally and we must realise that to put this country on the right path, we need everyone to be involved and every region of this country must be part of the master plan.

Catherine Phiri’s camp has admitted opponent Gabisile Tshabalala was a disappointment.
Saturday’s nights WBC bantamweight title fight ended in an anti-climax fashion at Government Complex in Lusaka when the South African threw in the towel barely two minutes into the first round after failing to respond to a flurry from Catherine.
Both Catherine and her manager Chris Malunga said Tshabalala failed to live up to her reputation as South Africa’s best boxer in her class.
Tshabalala is the WBF super bamtamweight title holder.
“I spent three months training for this fight. I am disappointed with Tshabalala,” Catherine said.
“If this is how she fights, let her switch to another career.”
Malunga too slammed what turned out to be a farce.
“We were expecting an entertaining fight and not this. I am disappointed,” Malunga said.
Tshabalala, who was fighting her first contest outside her homeland, now drops to two defeats, nine wins and a draw.
Catherine is now on 12 wins and one loss after her successful first defence of her WBC title.

CONSTITUTIONAL COURT JURISDICTION TO HEAR PRESIDNTIAL PETITION AFTER 14 DAYS MAY SOON BE QUESTIONED
The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is deeply concerned that it is now seven (7) days after the UPND presidential candidate Mr. Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate, Mr. Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, filed their petition challenging the declaration of Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu as president-elect in the Presidential election held on 11 August, 2016 and no hearing has so far taken place.
We are alive to the fact that the Respondents have raised serious preliminary issues which, procedural, may have to be determined before the petition can be heard and we do not know how many more preliminary issues may be raised in the coming days.
YALI is concerned that, seven (7) after filing, the Court has not even began to hear the substantive matter, a situation which has created anxiety among businesses and citizens supporting both the ruling and opposition parties. The petition was filed in the Constitutional Court on Friday, 19 August, 2016.
Over the last few days, the nation has been informed of the delays by petitioners in serving the petition on the two respondents despite the time limit imposed on the Court by the Constitution itself, within which hearing should commence.
The nation needs to know that the Constitutional Court operates within the realm and limitations imposed by the Constitution; we are concerned therefore that if the 14-day period stipulated for the commencement of hearing ends next week on Friday without the court having commenced hearing the matter. YALI shall not be suprised to see the procedural basis and jurisdiction of the court hearing the matter outside the 14-day being challenged, where some may feel that the matter will, at point, be statute or time-barred from being heard by the Constitutional Court.
As far as YALI is aware, the Attorney General is reported to have been served with the petition on Tuesday, 23 August 2016 and, by law and rules of the Constitutional Court, the Attorney General has 5 days to respond to this petition. The 5-day period ends on Tuesday, 30th August 2016. On the other hand, the petitioners will have 2 days in which to respond to the reply by the Attorney General and will have until September 1, 2016. The 14-day period in which the petition must be heard will also expire on Friday September 2, 2016.
We wonder what will happen to the constitutionality of the 14-day time-frame provided under the Constitution in which the Constitutional Court will have to conduct the hearing from time the petition is filed. Under Article 269 of the Constitution of Zambia, the 14 days include the excluded days of Saturday, Sunday and any holidays.
The rationale behind the total of the twenty one-day period for the filing and hearing of Presidential petition emanates from the fact that aggrieved parties ought to have a clear case presented, in accordance with Order XIV of Constitutional Court Rules, within 7 days from the declaration of presidential election results, and that hearing must commence within 14 days as per provisions of the Constitution.
For many years, Zambians have been very clear in their demand that all legal matters associated with the election of the President, MPs and councillors, should be dealt with expediently and disposed of within a short period of time, hence the 14-day period constitutional provision for hearing any presidential petition.
YALI is of the view, therefore, that after the expiry of the 14-day period imposed by the Constitution for commencement of the hearing, if there is no hearing at all, the inauguration of the President-elect elect must be allowed to proceed. The 21 day waiting period, already is proving too much to bear among all Zambians.

LUSAKA’s Chibolya Township has once again recorded a rise in illicit drugs trade, particularly cannabis.
The trade was rife during the campaign period for the August 11 general elections.
A check by the Sunday Times on the infamous Gaza Street, which is well-known for open cannabis sales, showed some traders cashing in on the displayed contraband with readily cut pieces of paper for rolling the illicit product.
An investigation on how the commodity was being taken to the township from other provinces revealed that the traders used sacks containing onion to conceal the compressed contraband.
Isaac Banda, a resident of Kanyama Township, told the Sunday Times that the illicit commodity was on high demand, especially during the campaign period.
He said some political party officials would buy cannabis for their cadres, thereby raising the demand for the commodity.
Some people were found buying the contraband in bulk for resale in other parts of the capital city and the country, using the similar method of concealing it.
This reporter who posed as one of the interested buyers was told: “We put the contraband in a bag of onion. That way it’s easy to transport it even using public passenger transport.”
About eight months ago, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) warned that it would not sit idle and watch drug trafficking take root in Zambia, but nothing has been done to address the Chibolya issue.
DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo said the Commission was aware of the escalating illegal drugs trade and was doing its best to curb the vice from the source as opposed to where it was finally sold.
“We are not sitting idle over the matter and you should know that this is an ongoing battle which we will continue fighting, especially by targetting the source,” she said.
About two years ago, a combined team of DEC and Zambia Police officers raided the notorious Chibolya Township and arrested hundreds of suspects who were found in possession of illicit drugs.
THE Patriotic Front (PF) has denied allegations by the United Party for Nation Development (UPND) that the opposition party supporters have been banned from conducting business on the streets and bus stations by PF cadres.
PF deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya said business executives and women should never be categorised as UPND or PF cadres, and described the accusation as laughable and nonsensical.
Mr Bwalya said the opposition party was creating propaganda aimed at neutralising the poor perception and image they had created for themselves.
“It is clear that in Namwala, Tongas are the ones that have displaced the Bembas or rather PF supporters who went there for business,” Mr Bwalya said.
He accused the UPND and its leadership of being behind the burning down of property in some parts of the country, thereby compromising peace in their strongholds.
Mr Bwalya said what was obtaining on the ground was that the UPND was using propaganda to assert themselves with regard to the violence that was happening in Southern Province.
Recently, violent activities in Southern Province and Lusaka were recorded with some people displaced and their property destroyed.
However, President-elect Edgar Lungu vowed to contain the situation as he had the responsibility as commander-in-chief of the armed forces to protect the lives and property of the citizens.

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
(Matthew 6:14–15, NIV)
For Your Own Sake
In life, we all have unfair things that happen to us. We can choose to hold on to the hurt, become bitter and angry, and let it poison our future; or, we can choose to let it go and trust God to make it up to us. You may not think that you are able to forgive because someone hurt you so badly. You might say, “You don’t know how I was raised.” Or, “My ex-spouse caused me a lot of pain.” “This friend betrayed me.” “I just can’t let it go.”
Realize that forgiveness isn’t for their sake; forgiveness is for your own sake. When you forgive, you are taking away their power to hurt you. But if you hold on to that offense and stay angry, you are only poisoning your own life and disconnecting yourself from God.
Forgiveness is like a door on your heart. If you shut the door and refuse to forgive, then God cannot forgive you. But when you open the door and allow forgiveness to flow from you, then His forgiveness can flow into you. Choose to forgive and open the door to receive God’s life, peace and healing today.
A Prayer for Today
“God, thank You for the gift of forgiveness that sets me free. Help me to truly understand what it means to forgive so I can receive Your forgiveness. Search me today and have Your way in my heart in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
The Secretary to the Treasury has been challenged to tell the nation exactly how much Ministers that occupied office illegally have paid back so far of the public funds they owe.
Electoral expert is disappointed that the Secretary to the Treasury and the Accountant General have remained mute over the public funds former Ministers need to pay back.
In an interview with QTV News Mr. Chipenzi notes that this is especially that the nation has not in the first place been told exactly how much is involved.
Mr. Chipenzi is of the view that both the Secretary to the Treasury and the Accountant General must be honest enough to make public such details.
He says the money that the former Ministers owe belongs to the Zambian people and therefore must be paid back in accordance with Court ruling.
Mr. Chipenzi states that his demand therefore is that the nation be told how much is owed, how much has been paid back and the modalities being used to recover the public funds.
Mwini Kalonga Gawa Undi Mkhomo V arrives in the main arena whilst President Edgar Lungu (left) looks on during the traditional ceremony
PRESIDENT-ELECT Edgar Lungu has appealed to Zambians and the clergy in general to continue committing the nation to prayer for peace to continue prevailing.
President Lungu said when he graced this year’s Kulamba traditional ceremony of the Chewa people of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique in Katete today that the country deserves peace to enable citizens to conduct their business without undue pressures.
He said violence has no place in the societies hence the need for Zambians to strongly condemn the barbaric acts which cause untold misery on the people.
Mr Lungu said Government cannot allow barbaric acts of violence to cast a shadow on the much cherished peace.
He said all Zambians must aspire to place of decency at the rendezvous of opportunity towards the country.
He said it was considerable regret that some people have used the just-ended general election to sow seeds of discord among the people.
President Lungu said Zambians must reject abominable acts of tribal hatred some misguided elements committed against target groups.
He said those acts must be stopped and those who wish to perpetrate such behavior must know that Government would stop them.
He said Zambia was a peace loving country, tolerant of one another adding that people must continue to co-exist.
He said the ugly chapter must be behind the Zambian people as soon as possible what happened in some parts of the country post-election day which was a terrible scare on the conscience of the nation.
President Lungu assured that he had a full confidence in the security services ongoing efforts to speedily bring all to an end.
He said it was important that the country does not lose sight of its democratic credentials.
He said it was also against the backdrop that there was need for the Zambian citizenry to observe the One Zambia, One Nation motto.
“There is need to embrace this motto which was coined by our forefathers in an effort to ensure that peace and unity prevailed over the country’s seventy three (73) ethnic groups. Our forefathers envisaged unity in diversity as a hallmark for us to develop our nation,” he said.
President Lungu said unity was what defines the Zambian people stating that there was need to seriously nurture the unity, if Zambians were to successfully forge ahead as a nation.
“All of us have a duty to cherish this unity. We all have a duty to plant seeds of unity across our nation and beyond,” he said.
He said traditional leadership have a mammoth responsibility to preach peace and stability to people.
President Lungu said the traditional ceremony was one such platform where people could promote the need to unite.
He said it was imperative that Zambians continue preserving the peace which was attained at great sacrifice by the forefathers.
He said for many years now, Zambia has maintained its celebrated status as a peaceful country founded on the “One Zambia, One Nation” motto.
He said the division should not be tolerated because it was a threat to the moral fabric as a civilised Zambian culture.
President Lungu said he was happy that the traditional leaders have denounced political violence.
He said the role of the traditional leaders cannot be over emphasised adding that the chiefs had a primary force in imparting the beautiful culture to the generations and shaping it to fit current day realities.
He said traditional ceremonies do not only remind the people of their origins, norms and values, but also contribute greatly to the promotion of national unity, peace and harmony.
President Lungu said culture underpins the daily life stating that a nation without history, origins and culture was like a tree without its roots.
“This is why we consider traditional ceremonies as crucial cultural activities to the core of our existence,” he said.
Mr Lungu said societies that have weak culture linkages were at risk of endless strife which negatively impact on development.
He said it was for this reason that the three countries should make significant strides to promote peace and unity through the arts and culture sectors.
He paid glowing tribute to Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi for this wonderful ceremony which was bring the nations together.
“I wish your royal highness continued good personal health as you endeavour to provide wise counsel to Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia on matters of culture, social and economic development,” he said.
