Kambwili’s views on Dora Siliya not representative of Government or PF’s position-Chanda

Vice Chairperson of Patriotic Front (PF) Media and Publicity Committee has issued a statement to the media saying that the statement attributed to the Information Minister and Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili and published in the Post Newspaper’s edition of May 3, 2015 against Ms. Siliya does not reflect the position of the PF.

The Post reported that Mr Kambwili said that he would rather sell his soul to the devil than accept Dora Siliya as a PF member because, according to him, she had insulted Michael Sata.

“For me, Dora must apologise for insulting Mr Sata. As long as that is not done, her coming into the party, that won’t sit down well with me. She is saying Sata’s three-year rule was more than xenophobia, that is unacceptable. Personally, I have not welcomed her until she apologises publicly.” Kambwili went further to spell out the words that Siliya should use to get her apology accepted.

“The key words she should say are: ‘I apologise for what I said and I thank Mr Sata for this platform that I want to join’,” he said. “The problem with me is I am not a pretender, I call a spade a spade. If Dora can insult Mr Sata today, what will stop her from insulting President (Edgar) Lungu when he is out of office tomorrow?” Kambwili also sounded a warning to those who were joining PF to respect founder members who worked hard for the party.

Below is the full statement from PF

STATEMENT ON REMARKS ATTRIBUTED TO INFORMATION MINISTER CHISHIMBA KABWILI AGAINST MS. DORA SILIYA – ISSUED BY SUNDAY CHANDA, VICE CHAIRPERSON, PF MEDIA AND PUBLICITY COMMITTEE

Lusaka, Zambia, 3rd May 2015 – The Party Secretary General Mr. Davies Chama has already given the Party’s official position regarding former Petauke Member of Parliament Ms. Dora Siliya. She has been welcomed and embraced by the Party and remains at liberty to participate in Party Programs, including availing herself to re-contest her former seat on PF ticket. It is therefore highly regrettable when those in leadership begin to openly defy and contradict the Party’s official position on Ms. Siliya’s decision to join the Party.

It must be placed on record that the statement attributed to the Honourable Minister Chishimba Kambwili, MP and published in the Post Newspaper’s edition of May 3, 2015 against Ms. Siliya does not reflect the position of the PF.

These reported remarks instead represent his own personal views and but they go to compromise the Party’s position. This is considering that unsuspecting members of public would easily confuse the statement to be the official position of PF and Government at large, bearing in mind that Hon. Kambwili is Chief Government Spokesperson.

Hon Kambwili does not need to be reminded that the Late President His Excellency Michael Chilufya Sata stood for reconciliation as he forgave andembraced those who had previously either fought him or issued disparaging remarks against his person.

He demonstrated this reconciliation and forgiveness when he embraced the likes of late Mr. Willie Nsanda, former Tourism Minister Hon. Sylvia Masebo, among others. It is also common knowledge that late President Sata reconciled beyond Party lines when he made peace with late President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa.

It would therefore be a misgiving to portray that if the late President was alive, he would fail to forgive Ms. Siliya. This is the mark of leadership PF must continue to espouse if his legacy is to live on.

Lastly, all PF members are urged to adhere to President Lungu’s directive to recruit and embrace new members and Ms. Siliya is no exception. It is only by so doing that the Party will continue to grow from strength to strength.

Deputy Minister in the Vice President’s Office Stephen Kampyongo says civil society organisations should be objective in their pursuit of a new constitution.

Mr Kampyongo says NGOs should not seek cheap political mileage over the constitution making Process because President Edgar Lungu remains resolute in his quest to deliver a people driven constitution.

He has questioned the Grand Coalition’s reported working alliance with the opposition UPND in pushing for a new constitution.

Mr Kampyongo who is also PF Deputy Parliamentary Chief Whip, was reacting to a story in the Daily Nation suggesting that the Grand Coalition is joining the UPND to press for a new constitution.

He said people sponsoring Grand Coalition should not that government is aware of the political schemes to destabilize the state.

Evangelical youth alliance President Reverend Moses Lungu says there is no need for the grand coalition to mount Pressure on the Government over the constitution because government has already shown political will in enacting the constitution.

He says instead of mounting pressure, the grand coalition should instead start studying options of peace mill amends suggested by government.

Reverend Lungu also says the government should be given time to work.

And Reverend Lungu has added his voice to Zambians commending president Lungu for opening up negotiations on the wage freeze.

He said move by the president shows that he is a listening president.

Floyd Mayweather beats Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas

mayweather4

Floyd Mayweather emerged victorious from the most lucrative fight in history, beating Manny Pacquiao via a wide unanimous decision in Las Vegas.
American Mayweather, 38, delivered a defensive master-class against his Philippine rival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, making the necessary adjustments after only a few rounds before disappearing out of sight.
Mayweather, who added the WBO welterweight title to the WBC and WBA titles he already owned, was awarded the fight 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112 by the three judges.
With his victory, Mayweather also cemented his status as the greatest pound-for-pound boxer of his generation.
The five-weight world champion is now undefeated in 48 professional fights, stretching back 19 years.
Six-weight world champion Pacquiao, who falls to 57 wins, six losses and two draws, later blamed a shoulder injury for his defeat.

mayweather2
The big fight in numbers
Revenue: Estimated $400m (£265m) in total.
Boxers: Mayweather and Pacquiao set to split about $230m (£150m).

Tickets for the bout – billed as ‘The Fight of the Century’ – changed hands for as much as $350,000 and American fans were charged almost $100 to watch on television, with millions more watching across the world.
Rival broadcasters Showtime and HBO joined forces for the first time since Lennox Lewis fought Mike Tyson in 2002 to show the fight, with Jimmy Lennon Jr and Michael Buffer sharing ring announcer duties.
A-listers in the 16,507 crowd included actors Denzel Washington  and Mark Walhberg , musicians  Beyonce and Jay-z ,  US tycoon Donald Trump, among many others .
Multi Grammy Award winner Jamie Foxx sang the American national anthem prior to the fighters entering the ring. So prized was a seat that many celebrities were even sitting behind the press row.
Pacquiao, 36, began his ring walk at 20:45 Vegas time – to the strains of a song he recorded especially for the occasion – and was awarded a rapturous reception. Mayweather, on the other hand, was roundly booed, despite being effectively the house fighter.
mayweather3
The opening round was extremely cagey, with both men trying to establish their distance, but Mayweather did land with a couple of eye-catching right hands on the counter.
Not only did Mayweather look noticeably bigger than Pacquiao, he also looked quicker in the early rounds.
And when Pacquiao did get close, Mayweather was content to tie him up, to both Pacquiao and the fans’ frustration.
Mayweather rocked Pacquiao with two more rights in the second, although Pacquiao was able to get inside his rival’s superior reach and unleash a couple of flurries.
The third round was a more even affair, with Pacquiao able to draw Mayweather into some exchanges and Mayweather doing plenty of rough stuff on the inside.
Pacquiao really came into the fight in the fourth, staggering Mayweather with a left hand, which many thought would be a key weapon in this fight.
Mayweather was forced to cover up on the ropes and many of Pacquiao’s follow-up punches were caught on the arms and gloves, but a smile from the American signalled he may have been hurt.
mayweather
Mayweather’s head had cleared by the start of the fifth and he proceeded to win the round courtesy of his trusty right cross, with Pacquiao not applying enough pressure or displaying the aggression many felt he needed.
Pacquiao rocked Mayweather again in the sixth, before Mayweather got on his bike in the seventh, slipping and sliding out of reach and frustrating Pacquiao as he looked to engage.
In the eighth it was Mayweather’s left that did most of the damage and although he did ship another sneaky left, by now it was apparent that Pacquiao, naturally the smaller man, did not have the necessary power.
It was more of the same in the ninth, during which there were definite signs that Pacquiao was tiring and the fight was beginning to get away from him.
By the 10th, Mayweather had made all the adjustments he needed to make and continually made Pacquiao miss, like a matador with an ailing bull, while doing enough on the counter to win the round.
In the 11th, Pacquiao had gone from bull to mouse, getting snapped on the nose time and time again by Mayweather’s jab as he tried to get inside.
Pacquiao’s expected late rally did not transpire and the air of resignation in the arena at the final bell told you everything you needed to know – that Mayweather had won an intriguing rather than thrilling fight with plenty to spare.

And while many observers who paid to watch would have been disappointed with the action, the fact that Mayweather won so handily was more proof of his unparalleled genius.
Pacquiao’s pride will no doubt be salved when he next checks his bank account – it is estimated the fight will generate $400m (£265m) in total, with Mayweather and Pacquiao set to split in the region of $230m (£150m).
Afterwards Mayweather confirmed he would fight one more time in September before retiring, although the opportunity to surpass Rocky Marciano’s mark of 49 fights undefeated might prove too tempting to pass up.
Amir Khan is on the list of possible opponents, as is fellow Briton and IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook.

Youths should create their own jobs-Lusambo

16

MMD National Youth Secretary Bowman Lusambo has urged youths in Zambia to utilise their God given talents to create employment opportunities.

Mr Lusambo said the high levels of unemployment calls for young people to be innovative and use their talents to create jobs.

He said Government alone cannot manage to offer jobs to all the unemployed young people.

Mr Lusambo who is also aspiring candidate for Kabushi parliamentary seat for 2016 was speaking on Friday evening when he officiated at a well attended fundraising gospel concert in Kabushi in Ndola.

The gospel concert was also graced by renowned Gospel artiste Kings Malembe Malembe.

‘We all have God given talents, let us go out there and use them. You saw how Malembe Malembe was using his talents to sing and dance for God, you can also search within you and find the talents that God deposited in you and create a job for yourself and other youths,’ Mr Lusambo said.

He added, ‘the demands on Government to create jobs for everywhere can be overwhelming hence the need for us youths to step up and use our talents to put food on the table.’

Mr Lusambo has since proposed that the organisers of the concert introduce an annual choir competition involving all Churches in Kabushi which he will sponsor.

‘The top three Choirs will win a cash prize and recording deals in order to develop their talents and create their livelihoods through the talents Let us work together with the organisers of this concert where i was just invited to officiate as Guest of Honour and introduce a Choir competition,’ Mr Lusambo said.

The MMD youth leader said he has decided to stand in Kabushi in 2016 because he wants to uplift the living standards of residents in the constituency especially the young people.
‘We should scale up skills development for our youth in order to enhance their creative and innovative capacities. Kabushi is such a vast constituency and it should be able to create its own job opportunities for young people here,’ he said.

Mr Lusambo continued, ‘I know the development challenges facing the people here and i stand ready to work together with you to find lasting solutions. We have a very challenging water and sanitation situation here which needs to be addressed.’

At the same event, Mr Lusambo pledged K 5,000 towards the musical project in the area.

travelling collided with a truck on the Ndola-Kapiri Mposhi road, in Kafulafuta.

GOVERNMENT will construct an accident museum for educational purposes with the hope of inculcating responsibility in drivers and passengers.

Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) chief executive officer Zindaba Soko said in an interview that the organisation and Government are looking for a scrap yard where vehicles involved in accidents from way back could be displayed.

Mr Soko said the museum will be constructed systematically to be used for educating the public and motorists on the negative impact that accidents have on society.
“We are hoping this could be a way of inculcating responsibility among drivers and passengers. The accidents recorded in the first quarter of 2015 that resulted in death and fatal injuries are many and all possible ways of avoiding them further should be done now,” he said.

Mr Soko said the accident museum will also display causes of specific accidents and how these could have been prevented.

And Mr Soko has implored the private sector to have a basic transport safety policy in their places of work for employees.

He said his organisation is working on a policy to be formulated to ensure that it collaborates in ensuring that work places have basic transport safety.

Mr Soko said organisations lose a lot once an employee is involved in an accident both in production and various operations.

And the three towing trucks to help move broken-down motor vehicles off roads have arrived in the country.

Mr Soko said RTSA received the trucks on Monday and training for the users has already taken place.

He said the three trucks will be dispatched to Eastern, Copperbelt and Northern provinces.

Mr Soko said the tow truck for the Copperbelt will also service North-Western Province while the tow truck for Northern Province will be stationed in Mpika to service the Kapiri Mposhi-Nakonde route.

The agency now has five tow trucks.

Do more to clean Zambia, says Kambwili

GOVERNMENT has directed local authorities to add impetus to the Make Zambia Clean and Healthy campaign.

And Government says the 151 vehicles bought for constituencies for the campaign should be utilised for the intended purposes across the country.

Chief Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili said in an interview yesterday that the campaign has not been shelved but that the programme is being strengthened by stakeholders.

Mr Kambwili, who is also Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said Government is committed to keeping the surroundings clean through improved garbage collection by councils.

He said councils should monitor and improve garbage collection to keep the surroundings clean.

“A clean environment reduces outbreak of diseases resulting in reduced health costs. Government will not spend a lot of money on health matters when the environment is clean,” he said.

Mr Kambwili said monitoring of the exercise is cardinal for the councils if they are to achieve the intended goal.

“We have observed that in rural areas the vehicles are being utilised for the intended purposes as compared to the urban areas where the vehicles are being used for other purposes,” he said.

The minister has since directed the councils in urban regions to release the vehicles to be used for cleaning and health programmes.

Meanwhile, Mr Kambwili has commended the local authorities, especially those on the Copperbelt, that have employed people to sweep the streets.

He particularly commended Luanshya, Kitwe and Chingola municipalies for sweeping the streets in the central business districts.

“We are happy with what the Copperbelt-based local authorities have done by engaging workers to work on the streets,” he said.

Mr Kambwili has urged the private sector to help in cleaning towns through their respective corporate social responsibility programmes.

Police arrest political cadres for illegally allocating land

zambiaPolicelogo

Police on Friday raided part of Galunia Farms in Mutumbi area of Lusaka, where suspected political cadres were illegally allocating land.

Lusaka Police commanding officer Charity Katanga said police, who are on the ground patrolling the area, have so far arrested 23 people, among them 18 males.
She said the arrested will be screened and those found wanting will be charged for criminal trespass.

Police surrounded the area blocking out cadres, who have also illegally occupied the land.

Wheelbarrows, axes and bull dozers were also confisticated by the police.

An eye-witness said police fought running battles with the cadres, who were overpowered and forced to scamper and desert the place.

An on-the-spot check yesterday found police officers in riot gear patrolling the area while others were staked out at an illegally built house which has been constructed up to roof level.

An officer said some illegal land owners ran amok after the place was raided.

“The people have gone into hiding in Kamanga area,” he said.

But this action has not been taken lightly by the Patriotic Front party secretary general Davies Chama who talked tough condemning the rise in illegal land allocation around the country.

Mr Chama observed that a lot of people who have been allocating land illegally in Mutumbi and other surrounding areas have been masquerading as PF cadres.
In an interview Mr Chama said his party is aware of unscrupulous people who are using the party’s name to tarnish its image.

Mr Chama said illegal allocation of land will not be tolerated, and warned that anyone found wanting will face the wrath of the law.

“It is unfortunate to see people masquerading as PF officials in this scam. No cadre will be spared once found wanting,” he said.

Today’s Message: Bring Out the Best

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“…love is kind…”
(1 Corinthians 13:4, NIV)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

One translation of today’s verse says, “Love looks for a way to be constructive.” In other words, love looks for ways to improve someone else’s life. Love brings out the best in other people. Don’t just get up in the morning thinking about yourself or how you can make your own life better. Think about how you can make someone else’s life better.

Ask yourself, “Who can I encourage today?” “Who can I build up?” Someone in your life needs your encouragement. Someone in your life needs to know that you believe in them.

I believe God will hold us responsible for the people He’s put in our lives. He’s counting on us to bring out the best in our family and friends.

Are you improving the lives of those around you? Are you giving them confidence? Ask the Lord to give you creative ways to invest in those around you. As you sow seeds of encouragement and bring out the best in others, God will send people along your path that will build you up, too and help you move forward into the blessing He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, thank You for loving me. Thank You for believing in me and always building me up. I ask that You show me creative ways to encourage and build up the people around me. Help me to be an example of Your love today and always in Jesus’ name. Amen.
