PF leaders are selfish, they have shared all the jobs-Mulongoti

People’s Party leader Mike Mulongoti says he is not bitter that the PF government has not rewarded him with a job after vigorously campaigning for President Edgar Lungu in the January 30 election.

Mr Mulongoti said in an interview that he was not looking for a job from President Lungu but merely wanted to be appreciated for his role in campaigning for the PF.

He said PF leaders are selfish and want to eat alone without considering the efforts of people that campaigned for the party.
‘I started by campaigning for the late President for Sata, he didn’t give me anything not even cup of tea from his office. He died,’ Mr Mulongoti said.
He added, ‘PF had another candidate called Edgar Chagwa Lungu, if I was bitter I would not have helped him but I campaigned for him. So what is the difference? They are the same.’

Mr Mulongoti said he decided to help the PF campaign for its candidates because of his love for Zambia.

‘My view is this, it is about Zambia, it is not about positions,’ he said,

‘Those of us that went to school have got to use our education for the purpose of moving on in life. I have been in government before and i have continued to survive outside government and this is the reason we have continued to upgrade ourselves.’

He added, ‘I’m just coming from a business trip in South Korea, i was not sent there by PF, what is it that I’m crying about?’

Mr Mulongoti said the PF leaders are just feeling guilty that they have not rewarded those that helped them in the campaigns.

‘They are just feeling guilty that they are beneficiary from our efforts, in the meantime they just want to eat alone and that is the sad part. Come 2016, they have been announcing that they want us to work together, how do you work with people that are selfish?’

‘All we were asking for is for them to appreciate the people that worked with me, all the intellectuals, they debated on TV and radio for PF and not even a thank you, is that the way you behave?

Mr Mulongoti however reiterated that he is not looking for a job from the PF government.

‘What job can they give us? They have shared all the jobs. Is living in Zambia all about jobs? You are supposed to be creating opportunities not only for us but for everybody including those on the streets.’

He said, ‘When we are complaining about the depreciation of the Kwacha, is it something so difficult that we don’t know where to get dollars from to make the Kwacha strong? You are always quarrelling with the mines that can help you bring in dollars instead of engaging and negotiating with them properly.’

He also castigated President Lungu’s administration for always looking to China for help and allegedly abandoning western donors.

‘Our partners from the western governments are now uncomfortable dealing with us, these are the people that give us grants and yet we have abandoned them. It is always China this, China that. Are we sure that China can give us all that we need? This has to be a balancing act,’ he said.
The Kwacha is in problems because we don’t have anywhere to get the dollars

Rainbow Party President Wynter Kabimba has charged that the worst is yet to befall the country because the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has no capacity to run the country.

Mr. Kabimba tells QFM News by telephone that people should expect the worst from the PF because the challenges the country is facing are nothing compared to what is coming as a result of poor planning by the PF.

He says voting for President Edgar Lungu during the January 20th Presidential by-election was a grave mistake the Zambian people made.

Mr. Kabimba states that it is clear in the minds of the Zambian people that the PF under President Lungu has no capacity to run the nation.

He says he hopes the Zambian people have learnt lessons for voting aimlessly.

Mr. Kabimba, who is also former PF Secretary General, says it is important that the Zambian people evaluate the alleged poor performance of the PF and remove the party from office in 2016.

Dr Kaingu is an asset to President Lungu-MMD

Opposition MMD youths have described Education Minister Dr Michael Kaingu as a valuable asset to President Edgar Lungu’s administration.

MMD National Youth Secretary Bowman Lusambo said in an interview that Dr Kaingu who is MMD Mwandi MP brings a lot of valuable experience to the PF government.

Mr Lusambo said the recent attacks targeted at Dr Kaingu from some tabloids are unfortunate and malicious.

The MMD youth leader said no amount of propaganda against Dr Kaingu will change the fact that he has been appointed as a cabinet Minister.
He said attacking an innocent man who is merely carrying out his role as a cabinet Minister.

Mr Lusambo explained that Dr Kaingu’s recent trip to western province was an important one as he was checking up on developmental projects in the province and in his constituency Mwandi.

‘What we are failing to understand is why Dr Kaingu is being attacked, right, left and centre. Is he the first opposition MP to serve in government? We have since concluded these attacks are just personal,’ he said.

He has since appealed to Dr Kaingu to continue on his path of serving the Zambians in various roles.

‘Dr Kaingu is one of the most experienced cabinet Ministers in the Lungu administration having served in the Mwanawasa, Banda and now Lungu governments and we believe that he brings a lot of value to the current government,’ he said.

Mr Lusambo has since appealed to Journalists to play a more constructive role in national development by focusing on reporting on development than personalities.

‘This journalism of personal attacks should come to an end. We appeal to our Journalists to focus more on national building. This thing of always targeting individuals and their personalities is counterproductive and we believe there are other issues that the media would do well to focus on and not personalities,’ he said.

MMD Mourns Mazabuka and Kafue Accident Victims

Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) Party Spokesperson Mr. Raphael Nakacinda has expressed profound sorrow at the tragic loss of 49 lives in the 291 road traffic accidents recorded over the just-ended Easter period in Mazabuka, Kafue and other areas of Zambia.

He said that on behalf of Party President Dr. Nevers Mumba and the entire party membership countrywide, the MMD extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the affected victims and wishes them God’s comfort as they go through this very difficult time of their loss.

He further said that was particularly sad that during the Easter period when the whole world was celebrating the giving of eternal life to humanity through the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, some were faced with the unfortunate loss of lives of loved ones.

Mr. Nakacinda indicated that the accidents were a wake-up call for the authorities to double-up efforts to assess and make structural changes to the many accident black-spots in the country such as the Mazabuka Shoprite junction to avert any potential loss of life in the future.

He further indicated that it is the hope of the MMD that government will make prudent use of the Euro-bond that was apportioned to Zambia Railways and the additional loans they have recently acquired to include modernization of railway crossing signals and barriers along the entire railway system from Chililabombwe to Livingstone to avert any future accidents such as the one at the Kafue railway crossing.

Kabwe youths advise others to create own employment

6

Two youths in Kabwe have called on other young people to be creative and create employment for themselves.

Teddy Kabwe, who graduated from Kabwe Trades Training Institute, said self-employment has helped him build a house and create employment for five other young people.

Kabwe said young people should not only look at white collar jobs as the only jobs they could do but look at other avenues in the informal sector.

“I graduated from Kabwe Trades Training Institute in 2010 with a certificate in Metal Fabrication and I just decided to form my own company after facing challenges in finding employment,” he said.

Kabwe said he has since managed to acquire two plots and he is almost finishing constructing his first house.

“I have also managed to create jobs for five young people who are also looking after their families,” Kabwe added.

And Suzen Lano, an electrician by profession, called on young people to think outside the box and not wait to be employed.

Lano told a ZANIS crew that young people should use their skills to create employment for themselves.

“Job creation should not be seen as a preserve for government alone but also requires that other stakeholders, especially the youths who form the biggest share of the unemployment levels, participate in creating jobs for themselves,” she said.

Lano added that youths especially those who have gained some skills should start using the knowledge they have acquired to create jobs for themselves and other young people.

She also appealed to government to promote the learning of culture especially for the young people.

I have no apologies to make for appointing young people-President Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says he has no apologies to anyone for appointing young people to serve in his administration.

President Lungu also said that he will not restrict himself to appointing people only from the civil service and those inclined to the ruling PF.
He has since pledged to appoint more women and more young people in his administration.

President Lungu was speaking this morning at State House when he swore in Mr. Likando Kalaluka as Attorney General and Mr Chalwe Lombe as Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Head of State has also conferred the status of state counsel on Attorney General Mr. Kalaluka.

President Edgar Lungu has since advised Mr Kalaluka no to be partisan in his duties.

He said he is confident that Mr. Kalaluka will diligently execute his duties despite the Law Association of Zambia raising doubts over his appointment.
‘You are all aware that these two are young men going by the commentaries made in respect of the new State Counsel Mr Kalaluka applies to the new Permanent Secretary, I must say that I have no apologies to make to anyone for appointing these two young men to these high offices of our country,’ President Lungu said.

‘I have the privilege of dong head hunting where the law challenges me or burden me with the task of appointing people to these high offices. Am a member of the legal fraternity and I know this gentleman as a professional colleague. Beyond that, nothing, not even once has he represented me, not even at the height of the squabbles in PF contrary to what people thought,’ he said.

President Lungu added, ‘There is nothing wrong in being young and a Zambian. What we need to do for those that think are older and wiser is to assist the young Zambians settle down in their appointments and do their best, let’s not pit spanners in their works.’

‘So the challenge am putting to you colleagues in the legal fraternity is that when this gentleman was your Secretary in the Council of the Law Association of Zambia, you didn’t doubt him, when I was looked around, I noised around all over and I thought he was the best person and that is my judgment and am sure he will be equal to the task.’

He continued, ‘But if the colleagues will stand in your way, that would be unfortunate but I would like to believe that whatever criticism was in good faith. As you get to the top, you will find that the top is very rosy, am there myself. Some will come and give you advice, they are older, they have been there, they are wiser, take it. They didn’t have the fortune of having been appointed to this high office during their days so take it with a pinch of salt, analyze it.’

President Lungu said the Attorney General should not be partisan.

‘Your job is to advice cabinet, Government, you are our lawyer. So don’t take partisan interests. If you go through the history of this country, you are not the only young lawyer, your predecessor was equal in age more or less at the time he was appointed. I remember George Chilupe was young when he was appointed. I will appoint people from outside or inside the civil service but I believe all of them have been equal to the task,’ he said.

President Lungu said he will not be restricted in his appointments to political party considerations and civil service saying he is yet to appoint a few more young people.

On the new Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Mr Lungu said he is confident Mr Chalwe will excel.

‘He was Director Political at the Ministry and he is career civil servant and I believe he is equal to the task. He is a career civil service.’
He urged the new Permanent Secretary to focus on the finalization of the Diaspora policy.

‘Zambians living in the Diaspora want to participate in governance, elections, investments and it is important we help them through his policy.’
He revealed that he is being helped by a lot of old politicians to run government.

He said all Zambians should work together as a team.

‘Let’s not underrate the young stars including the women, bwana Vice President, help me identify more women to appoint.

Zone fam member ,Dope G , released a statement concerning the departure of Thugga from the group .

“It has been a tough period for the team, so much so that I personally failed to make a statement any earlier than today about this. Social media did its best to rub it in and i guess that helped in accepting that this is the new reality. Despite having known for months, finally announcing Thugga’s departure really opened up a floodgate of emotions that we had managed to start blocking away. Having travelled this journey with him as a key member of the team for so long, the void left by his departure shall be felt greatly and the only consolation we have is still having him as a brother and a friend. The other beautiful thing is that he has not been taken away from the fans either as you will still get to hear his music just with a different focal point. During this period of his transformation, he has brought such an array of light within the team and it gives us joy knowing that he shall share this with the world. I was gonna do a series of tweets talking about our experiences in the past with the hashtag #WhyThuggaNeededJesus? but I will spare him.lol. I encourage everyone to hear him out and support him as he walks this new path. As for @ZoneFam , well, this has been a reminder that nothing lasts forever and even we shall one day bid farewell to you. Bitter as this may be, it puts us in a position to do every single thing like it were our last and put our hearts in it wholly to build a legacy worthy of being remembered by so we working. From this point Zone Fam can only go in ‘one direction’.lol. I had to guys. Stay blessed.”

Zambia will experience a housing deficit of over 3 million units by 2030

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo
Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo

GOVERNMENT has projected that Zambia will experience a housing deficit of over a 3 million units by 2030.

Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo said at the national housing policy provincial consultative conference in Chipata yesterday that Zambia’s population would be in excess of 23 million by 2030 adding that the country would experience housing deficit of over 3 million units if no major interventions were put in place.

Mr Kasolo who was represented by Chipata District Commissioner Kalunga Zulu said there was need for robust policy guidelines that would help the country avoid the deficit.

“It is estimated that Zambia’s population will be in excess of 23 million by 2030 and we will experience housing deficit of over 3 million units if no major interventions are put in place,” he said.

He said the economic and social potentials of the urban areas have generated strong forces for rural -urban migration which was outstripping the capacities of local authorities to deliver land and basic services for housing development.

He said the situation has resulted in proliferation of slums and squatter settlements.

Mr Kasolo said Zambian Government recognises the huge challenges faced in providing affordable housing for all.

“We are all aware that the housing challenges are expected to grow even more if we do not put our heads together to plan and strategise on how to deal with it,” he said.

He also said the financial realities have denied Zambians the life they deserve and have trapped a large proportion of the people into abject poverty.
He said with limited access to mortgages and other housing financial products, most Zambian households were unable to participate in the delivery of decent shelter.

Mr Kasolo said Zambia needs clear strategies on how to finance the huge housing deficit now and in future.

Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR) Consultant Dr Emmanuel Mutale said the construction of over 120,000 per year was the only solution to avoid housing deficit.

International Company wants to buy the Kr14billion DBZ debt owed by defunct Zambian Airways

AN INTERNATIONAL company specialised in buying off depressed debts has written to Government requesting to purchase the K14 million debt which shareholders of the defunct Zambian Airways owe the Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ).

According to a letter written on behalf of the company by the law firm Lewis Nathan Mosho obtained yesterday, the institution wants to buy off the DBZ loan together with the associated interests and follow the borrowers.

The letter, is dated April 2, 2015, is addressed to President Lungu’s special assistant for project monitoring and implementation, Lucky Mulusa.
“Our international clients specialised in buying off depressed debts have instructed us to explore with you the possibility of buying off from DBZ the K14 million loan together with associated DBZ interests arising thereby so that they pay off DBZ and follow the borrower and its associates,” lawyer Lewis Mosho said.

Mr Mosho said Government should evaluate this possibility and advise whether DBZ may engage with his clients.

He said his law firm, following instructions dated October 31, 2008, conducted a detailed legal due diligence on the K14 million loan obtained by Zambian Airways from DBZ.

Mr Mosho said the law firm rendered a due diligence report to DBZ dated December 17, 2008.

And Mr Mulusa said in an interview that he is in receipt of the letter from Mosho and will take it to DBZ management for consideration this week.
“Yes, I am in receipt of such a letter regarding the proposal on DBZ. DBZ has its board and management where this letter will be taken for their consideration but this is an interesting proposal,” he said.

Mr Mulusa said the proposal is an interesting idea to evaluate because DBZ needs to recover its money and give to other institutions willing to invest in the development of the economy.

He said DBZ should recover its money but the court process should be left to proceed so that legal issues in the DBZ case are interpreted.

HH tells the BBC that the Zambian economy is in a mess because President Lungu has no vision

Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema says the Zambian economy is weakening because President Edgar Lungu has no vision for the country.

Mr Hichilema said the domestic economy is going through serious stress due to poor leadership exhibited by President Lungu.

The UPND leader who looked controlled and composed during the short interview said President Lungu publicly admitted that he lacked any vision for Zambia during the presidential campaigns.

‘To be fair to him he publicly admitted that he had no vision for the nation and that is recorded in his campaign messages,’ Mr Hichilema said.

He added, ‘Since he took over office, we can look at two parameters, Debt is increasing both domestic and international debt to levels that are unsustainable, having come out of a debt trap not too long ago and we are getting back there.’

Mr Hichilema said the Kwacha has also collapsed which has increased the cost of living especially for the poor.

‘Secondly, the domestic currency has collapsed, the Kwacha has depreciated by 20 percent in few a months and that has increased the cost of living for the majority of our people, food included in there,’ he said.

Asked to comment on President Lungu’s recent trip to China, President Hichilema said China is a key economic powerhouse hence the need to maintain cordial relations with it.

Mr Hichilema said what was needed is to engage China on mutually beneficial terms to ensure that agreements are structured in a way that benefits both parties.

The UPND leader also emphatically stated that he will continue seeking public office in order to serve the people of Zambia.

He said he will not give up until his party decides to field a better candidate to contest the presidency on the party ticket.

Government release money for the construction of students’ hostels at CBU

4

GOVERNMENT has released K423.7 million for the construction of students’ hostels at the Copperbelt University (CBU).

The CBU has been grappling with accommodation challenges forcing most students to look for rooms in boarding houses which are mostly in a deplorable state.

Once the project is completed, an additional 3,200 beds will be created at the university, which is located in Kitwe’s Riverside area.
Deputy Minister of Education Sydney Mushanga disclosed the development in Kitwe yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on Kitwe district commissioner Chanda Kabwe.

“About K650 million has been released for infrastructure development and expansion of existing infrastructure in higher learning institutions countrywide.

Just here on the Copperbelt, K423,734,693.70 has been given to the Copperbelt University for the construction of students’ hostels,” Mr Mushanga said.

He said the government will ensure that it mitigates the accommodation challenges in higher learning institutions for the benefit of the students.

Mr Mushanga said Government wants to ensure infrastructure which is being constructed in the education sector is of high quality for it to stand the test of time.

He also said the government is sourcing for funds for first-year students who will be offered bursaries.

Mr Mushanga said the government is concerned about the welfare of students countrywide and it is for this reason it is working tirelessly to source funds for students’ bursaries.

“As government, we are a parent. We want our first-year students to start learning. We have engaged the Ministry of Finance to source funds for students’ bursaries,” Mr Mushanga said.

He, however, said the government will not tolerate hooliganism among students in institutions of higher learning.

GOVERNMENT plans to relocate the Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) and National Heritage Conservation Commission (NHCC) headquarters from Lusaka to Livingstone to enable the two institutions to aggressively market the tourist capital’s potential, Vice-President Inonge Wina has said.

Ms Wina said Government departments dealing with tourism should be stationed in Livingstone so that they can effectively implement measures that will revamp the tourist capital and make it a centre of excellence.

The Vice-President said this on Monday when she called on Chief Mukuni of the Toka-Leya people in Kazungula.

She observed that the shift of the headquarters of the provincial administration from Livingstone to Choma has resulted in economic regression in the tourist capital, a predicament she said needs to be addressed urgently.

“Government is concerned about the status of Livingstone as a tourism capital because we realise that after moving the provincial administration to Choma, there’s been an element of economic depression in Livingstone and this needs to be addressed as quickly as possible with the efforts of the people of Livingstone coupled by Government initiatives.

From our side as Government, we are instructing the Ministry of Tourism to ensure that the headquarters of the tourism board moves to Livingstone because this is where action is taking place in the area of tourism. The heritage commission should also be moved to Livingstone and all the other tourism-related institutions so that we can revamp this town and also position it as a centre of tourism in this country,”Ms Wina said.
She was accompanied by Southern Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu and his Lusaka counterpart Obvious Mwaliteta.

She said Government wants Livingstone to be turned into a centre of tourism excellence so that the country can attract and receive more international tourists who will in turn boost the country’s economy through foreign exchange.

Ms Wina appealed to Chief Mukuni, who is also a local and regional tourism investor, to assist Government to revamp and promote cultural tourism, which she said plays a crucial role in improving the lives of people in villages.

And Chief Mukuni said he is readily available to give expert advice to assist Government to revamp the tourism sector.
He, however, lamented that the shift of the provincial administration to Choma has resulted in poor communication between his chiefdom and government departments.

Michael Kaingu continues campaigning for PF in Western Province

Michael Kaingu

MINISTER OF Education Michael Kaingu has cautioned civil servants against ‘hanging on’ to something that is not working, in reference to the United Party for National Development (UPND).

Dr Kaingu said the UPND has penetrated the Lozi people of Western Province through traditional cousinship which is lop-sided.

He urged public service workers to stop being competitors with Government, which pays them salaries.

Dr Kaingu said workers should be patient with the PF since it is a better government than the MMD and is making efforts to grow the economy aimed at improving people’s welfare.

“This government is better than the previous one, don’t argue because I also served in that government and the reason why we [MMD] lost was because of not listening to the concerns of workers but this government almost doubled your salaries. So why are you fighting a government that is doing its best to grow the economy and improve your welfare?” he asked.

“If it is you teachers, I fail to understand where the discontent is coming from because you now have opportunities to upgrade skills up to PhD level but if you have insatiable appetite for politics, join PF since it is safer to play politics with government of the day,” he said.
He said Government does not want public workers to be its enemies.

“But when you play partisan politics by supporting the opposition, you shall become our enemy and we shall not hesitate to terminate your employment because you are supposed to work with the government of the day.

“It is surprising that you are hanging on to something [UPND] that is not working.

“Open your eyes and direct your energies to our winning team,” Dr Kaingu said during a series of meetings with public service workers in Shangombo and Sioma districts.

He said opposition parties, especially the UPND, have become irrational in criticising Government.

“Whenever President Lungu travels out to woo investors, they complain as if they can provide the much needed investment required in developing the country. They have become very petty but the problem is with us [Lozi] since we have been supporting them and they have taken advantage of our cousinship but it is time to sweep them off,” Dr Kaingu said.

“President Lungu has shown us that he is humble and gave us a Republican Vice-President despite giving him zero votes,” he said

Sate-Sate, Mukuka arrive for 2015 All-Africa Games showdown

5

Ronald ‘Sate-Sate’ Kampamba and Mukuka Mulenga have joined the Zambia Under-23 camp in Lusaka.

Sate-Sate of Egyptian club Wadi Degla and Mukuka from South African PSL side Bloemfontein Celtic both landed on Tuesday.

The duo are two of four high-profile call-ups for Saturday’s crucial 2015 All-Africa Games final round, last leg qualifier to be played in Lusaka.

Others are the Israel-based duo of striker Evans Kangwa and defender Emmanuel Mbola of Hapoel Ra’anana.

Meanwhile, Nigeria have only managed to secure the release of one foreign-based player for trip to Lusaka this week.

So far only defender Sadiq Atanda Ololade of Apolonia Fier in Albania has joined the team camp.

Zambia and Nigeria are goalless from the first leg played on March 22 in Abuja.

Winner this weekend will qualify to the All-Africa Games to be hosted by Congo-Brazzaville from September 4-19.
