National Restoration Party (NAREP) leader Elias Chipimo Junior has said that had the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) listened to the advice of his party, they would have delivered the constitution on time.

Mr Chipimo said that when the PF announced that they will be able to produce the constitution within 90 days, NAREP had offered the ruling party viable advice which was ignored.

He said that it was not strange that the PF have failed to fulfill most of their promises because they did not want to consider workable ideas from both the opposition and stakeholders on how best the constitution can be handled.

Mr Chipimo added that PF still continues to ignore many calls from various stakeholders pertaining to the roadmap of the constitution making process.

Mr. Chipimo further added that there is no doubt that the PF cannot deliver a people driven constitution.

He said that the failure by the PF to deliver the constitution on time is making the people to lose faith and trust in them.

Mr Chipimo said that Zambians feel their values and opinions are not considered with regards the constitution making process.

The National Restoration party leader has since appealed to the Patriotic Front administration to consider advise from all relevant stakeholders to avoid misleading the nation.

Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has charged that Ministers not doing their job but merely seating and eating tax payers money.

Ms Nawakwi has told Qfm News that she disappointed especially with Health deputy minister Dr. Patrick Chikusu who she says seems not to be concerned with the plight of patients that are dying on a daily basis due to lack of medical kits in the rural areas.

She says there is need for Ministers to serious change their attitude towards the plight of the suffering majority Zambians that put them in office.

Ms Nawakwi has warned Ministers that their failure to give an ear to the Zambian people and the opposition leaders will cost them.

Ms Nawakwi explains that she personally called the deputy minister of health to do an on the spot check in some clinics in Nakonde that have had no drugs and labour kits for women that were due for delivery but that Dr Chikusu ignored her and instead went to visit a construction site within the same area.

The FDD leader has since appealed to President Michael Sata to see to it that such ministers show empathy to the people they serve stating that life and good health is important for every Zambian.

Bicycle businesses in Chipata

Former Mines minister Maxwell Mwale has been found with a case to answer for alleged abuse of authority of office and being in possession of 5,000 bicycles worth more than KR1 million (K1 billion), property suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Lusaka Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale has since placed Mwale on his defence along with his co-accused Zhongui Mining, a company he is alleged to have facilitated the issuance of a mining licence.

The magistrate said in his ruling that a prima facie case has been sufficiently established by the prosecution against the duo.
Mwale, who is MMD Malambo Member of Parliament (MP), immediately informed the court, through his lawyer Sakwiba Sikota, that he would call three witnesses.

The mining firm, through its lawyer Bonaventure Mutale, indicated that it may call one witness.
Mwale is jointly charged with Charles Shi, a director at the Chinese mining company Zhongui International Mining Industry Group Limited.
It is alleged in the first count that Mwale, between May 1, 2009 and August 31, 2011, abused the authority of his office by facilitating the issuance of mining licences to Zhongui International Mining Industry Group Limited.Particulars indicated that this was in breach of the issuance of mining licences procedure.

In the second count, particulars are that between July 1 and August 31, 2011, Mwale is alleged to have imported 5,000 bicycles valued at more than K1 billion suspected to be proceeds of crime.
The matter was adjourned to August 15, this year for opening of defence.

Kabimba takes a dig at Amsterdam, calls him a hired mercenary.

Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba has taken a swipe at leaders of the UPND and the MMD for engaging international lawyer Robert Amsterdam to allegedly malign President Michael Sata.

Mr. Kabimba said Mr. Amsterdam is a hired mercenary who is now championing the anti-removal of subsidy campaign and corruption allegations after introducing himself as lawyer for Mr Rupiah Banda and his son Henry.

He said the PF while in opposition did not hire any mercenary to fight allegations of corruption against the MMD.

The Justice Minister was speaking during a news briefing at his office in Lusaka.

Mr. Kabimba said the PF managed to have a tribunal set up against then Transport Minister Dora Siliya and even commenced an action in the High Court against the then First Lady Thandiwe Banda without retaining a foreign lawyer.

He said the PF did not engage a foreigner lawyer because it does not suffer from an inferiority complex and colonial hangover in the manner the UPND and MMD leadership do.

Mr. Kabimba who is also PF Secretary General said the UPND and MMD leadership cannot serve the interest of Zambians if voted into power.

He said such leadership would sell out to foreign interests through the likes of Mr. Amsterdam and his superiors.

Mr. Kabimba accused the MMD and the UPND of collaborating with foreign interest against their own people at the time when the whole of Africa is fighting to shed off the last vestiges of ne-colonialism.

He said the campaign by Mr. Amsterdam will not yield any results which would bring the UPND and the MMD into power.

Mr. Kabimba said Mr. Amsterdam has failed to have the former Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra regain power despite waging a similar international media campaign.

He said Mr. Amsterdam has no success story to tell except give a ray of unfulfilled hope to desperate men of fickle characters such as Mr. Hichilema and his surrogate, Pastor Nevers Mumba.

Mweene- I am happy to be back

13

Kennedy Mweene says he is happy to be back in contention to play for Zambia after serving his one-match suspension.

Mweene missed Zambia’s 4-0 win over Lesotho on June 8 in Ndola after receiving a red card in the two sides 204 World Cup qualifier Group D first leg meeting on March 24 in Maseru.

“I am just really happy that the suspension is finished and available for selection that’s the most important thing,” Mweene said in Ndola.

Red Arrows goalkeeper Daniel Munyao was in goals during Mweene’s absence.

“He (Munyao) did well I was happy for him it is not easy to play in front of a crowd like that. He stayed calm and played simple,” Mweene said.

Lille track Fwayo Tembo

11

Fwayo Tembo is relishing a move to France next season following interest from Lille.

The Romanian based midfielder said he was excited by the prospect of moving to the French Ligue next season.

“I have so many offers but I think the offer from France is very serious.
The offer is from Lille,” Fwayo said after Zambia’s Monday post-match training at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

“I am sure for that I am moving next month I just need to work hard now.”
Fwayo currently plays for Romanian club Astra Giurgiu where he scored six goals in 26 games in his just ended first season with the Romanian club who finished the campaign in fourth position.

Meanwhile, suitors Lille were French champions in the 2010/2011 season who finished sixth in the 2012/2013 campaign.

Sundowns move overshadows Mweene’s return

11

Chipolopolo and Free State Stars goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has refused to discuss his reported move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The South African media on Tuesday reported that Mweene, 28 , had joined Sundowns on a three-year deal believed to be around R5 million.

He told journalists in Ndola on Tuesday that he was focusing on Zambia’s preparations for Saturday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan.

“I cannot comment because at the moment I am in camp with the national team I have to concentrate. Once I get to South Africa that is when I will be able to concentrate on on that.

“Once I go back (to South Africa) I will be able to confirm anything that has been happening there,” Mweene said.

Sundowns, coached by ex-Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane, currently have four keepers among them Wayne Sandilands, Glenn Verbauwhede, Thela Ngobeni and Dennis Onyango.

MMD backs PF Government’s refusal to extend the constitution making process deadline

Muhabi Lungu
Muhabi Lungu

The opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has welcomed the decision by the Patriotic Front (PF) government to reject the request by the Technical Committee Drafting the Country’s Constitution for an extra six months extension in which to complete its work.

The Technical committee’s request for extension of its timeframe to December 31st this year would have implied the provision of a supplementary budget amounting to forty four million Kwacha rebased.

Director of Communication in the Office of the MMD president, Muhabi Lungu has told QFM News that government’s decision to compel the Technical Committee to stick to the June 30th deadline is justified as there is no need to prolong the constitutional making process.

Mr. Lungu who was part of the recently held national constitution conference further notes that recommendation and amendments that were made to the first Draft that the Technical Committee presented were not extensive for it to prolong its work.

He has since advised the Technical Committee to hire more draft persons if having few draft persons is the reason why it wanted to have the deadline moved to December.

Grade nine pupil collapses after Corporal punishment at a school in Ndola

22

A 17-year-old Grade nine pupil of Twatasha basic school in Ndola’s Pamodzi township today collapsed after she was beaten by her teacher for reporting late for school.

A check at the school by ZANIS found irate Pamodzi residents throwing stones at the school in protest and the teacher only identified as a Mr Kangwa was hidden in fear of being beaten by the residents.

Pupils who narrated the story to the media (who rushed to the scene) said their teacher (a Mr. Kangwa) was fond of beating pupils.

“Two girls one from grade eight and the other a grade nine came late for school. So Mr Kangwa called them and asked them why they came late, before they could respond, Mr Kangwa got a horse-pipe and started beating them like he was beating his own children, he whipped the grade nine girl until she collapsed and fainted,” narrated the pupils.

The pupils said the 17-year-old girl was quickly rushed to a nearby clinic where she regained consciousness.

Nchelenge PF cadres accuse MP of neglect

4

Scores of Patriotic Front-PF cadres in Nchelenge district of Luapula province this morning matched to the district administration and demanded to be addressed by the district commissioner Royd Chakaba.

The cadres earlier defied police counsel to follow the normal channel and obtain a police permit.

The cadres insisted that they were not violent and that all they wanted was to bring their grievances to the attention of the government.

Police officers at Nchelenge station had earlier intercepted the demonstrating cadres in Kashikishi area and advised them to get a permit as provided for by the law and warned them against engaging in illegal activities.

The cadres are accusing the area Member of Parliament Raymond Mpundu of among other issues neglecting his electorates.

The cadres further claimed that some people loyal to the member of parliament have allegedly started conniving and are selling fertilizer which has just been delivered to the district intended for distribution to the vulnerable people.

However, Nchelenge district commissioner Royd Chakaba could not address the cadres because they had no permit.
Mr Chakaba advised the cadres to follow the law and obtain a police permit.

The district commissioner said he was ready to meet the cadres and hear their grievances but underscored the importance of abiding by the law and urged the grieving cadres to follow the procedure.

The cadres who remained calm were dispersed by police officers who kept vigil at the district administration offices.

Martin Mwamba hails Munyao

8

Ex-Zambia goalkeeper Martin Mwamba has hailed the performance of goalkeeper Daniel Munyau in Chipolopolo’s 4-0 win over Lesotho in the 2014 World Cup qualifier in Ndola on Saturday.

The Red Arrows goalkeeper Red Arrows kept a clean sheet in his 2014 World Cup qualifier debut when he replaced suspended Kennedy Mweene.

In an interview, Mwamba rated Munyau’s display on Saturday as good.

The former Power Dynamos keeper noted that Munyau was composed through out the match.

“That was good, he (Munyau) stood pressure despite playing in a big game like that one for the first time,” Mwamba said.

“He looked confident and with more games he will be a better keeper,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mweene is available for this Saturday’s Group D 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan in Ndola after serving a one match suspension following his red card on March 24 in Zambia’s 1-1 away draw against Lesotho in Maseru.
