Planned demostration not for suspended judges, but against Mutembo Nchito-ZDDM

The Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) has clarified that the demonstration that the political parties are calling for has nothing to do with the matter that was taken to court by their judges.

ZDDM National Co-ordinator, Edwin Sakala said the demonstration is against Mutembo Nchito’s continued stay in the office as Director for Public Prosecutor (DPP).

Mr Sakala said this in a press statement released to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lusaka.

He charged that Mr Nchinto is not the right person for the position of DPP because he has his own criminal matters pending in court, hence he is not in the right position to advise Government on criminal
matters.

Mr Sakala said since the President is not willing to retire Mr Nchito, it is the duty of the opposition political parties to remove him from the public office.

He has further assured Lusaka Province Police Commissioner, Charity Katanga that the decision by opposition political parties to hold a peaceful demonstration has nothing to do with the matter in court.

Mr Sakala said the police should know that it is the constitutional right of political parties to hold a peaceful public demonstration on issues which affect the nation, adding that they will proceed with their decision as they have notified the police about it in good time.

He has also advised the police to do their job by providing security for the demonstration which will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012.

Mr Sakala has also urged well meaning Zambians to support the demonstration as it has a noble cause, adding that they will not allow the Patriotic Front (PF) to push around the judiciary.

He said the demonstration will serve, among other things, to demand the removal of the DPP to give way to investigations on many allegations against him, the immediate re-payment of the K14 billion Mutembo and M’membe to the DBZ and respect for the Judiciary.

Mr Sakala said the concerned parties are also extending their call for Minister of Justice, Sebastian Zulu, to step down as he is not doing the nation a good service in matters that have hit media headlines in the last few weeks, adding that the call should also be extended to the President.

He said the parties are also not happy with the decision of the technical committee of expert on the constitution to sneak in a clause in the draft constitution which is supportive to a call to recognize homosexuality, adding that it is not only criminal but demonic as well.

By Pezzy Kudakwashe:

Zambia’s Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Dr Nevers Mumba has said that all MMD members of parliament working as deputy ministers in government will need to pledge their allegiance to the MMD and not the Patriotic Front.

He was speaking on a joint quadrilateral radio presentation of the Zambia blog talk Radio of USA, Canada, Crossfire of the United Kingdom and Flava FM Radio of Zambia’s Copperbelt.

Dr Mumba said although President Michael Sata was in line with the Zambian constitution to appoint MMD MPs to deputy minister positions in his government, MMD appointees need to be loyal to the party.

“If those MPs will not be loyal to MMD, we shall remove them and call for by-elections to find those loyal to the party”, Dr Mumba said

And the MMD has pledged to fight against all forms of corruption in a move to restore the party image. Party president, Dr Nevers Mumba reiterated today that he will use the five-year-mandate given to him by party members to fight against corruption.

Dr Mumba said the MMD is serious about the fight against corruption and has already set in place a party anti-corruption sub committee to stamp out corruption from the party.

“The MMD anti-corruption sub committee, will not only fight against corruption but will among other responsibilities monitor any corrupt activities”, Dr Mumba added

Dr Mumba said the party will from now onwards require all candidates aspiring for national leadership to declare their assets before they are allowed to stand for any MMD national leadership position.

He said the measures were put in place to safeguard the party from Corruption.

Dr Mumba was last week elected as MMD president at a recent party convention following the stepping down of his predecessor, Mr Rupiah Banda, who retired from active politics.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“…I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead”
(Philippians 3:13, NLT)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria
Have you made the decision to forget the past? Many people don’t fully understand what that means. They wonder, “How can I forget something that’s happened to me?” But one definition of the word forget is to disregard intentionally or to overlook. In other words, you have to choose to disregard your past so that it doesn’t keep you from moving forward. That means the good and the bad. Sometimes our past victories keep us from rising higher as much as past failures. If we don’t let go of the old, we’ll never be able to embrace the new.

It doesn’t matter what’s happened in your history, it’s time to forget what lies behind. Today, make the choice live forward. Trust that God has a better future in store for you. Trust that He’s working behind the scenes on your behalf. As you forget what lies behind and press forward, you’ll move forward. You’ll see increase and blessing and live the abundant life He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father in heaven, today I choose to forget the past. I don’t want anything to hold me back from what You have in store for my future. I choose forgiveness. I choose peace. Help me, by Your Spirit, to press forward into the life of blessing You have for me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Mr Hara said the process is also neither expected to affect the value of saving nor the exchange rate.

Government announced the rebasing of the Kwacha which will see slashing of three zeros from all note meaning that the highest note. K50,000 will be K50.

Chief Lubunda cries for maternity ward

1

Chief Lubunda of the Lunda people of Mwense district has appealed to the Patriotic Front Government to urgently build a proper maternity wing at the health post in his chiefdom.

Chief Lubunda said there was no privacy at the health post as it was overcrowded with patients of various ailments and those in labour were being subjected to public ridicule.

The Chief made the appeal when newly appointed Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Anna Mwitwa, paid a courtesy call on him at his palace.

He said mothers in labour lose dignity and the situation needed quick remedial measures.

The Permanent Secretary took time to see for herself the limited space at the health post and the congestion that could result when patients came in numbers to seek medical services.

The chief expressed concern that there was only one room which was used as an admission ward for both male and female patients.

He expressed fear that some men could be crafty and pretend to be sick and just wake up in the night and pounce on the unsuspecting female patient for criminal activities which could lead to other issues.

Chief Lubunnda said there was need to build additional infrastructure so that patients could receive their medical care and attention in a dignified manner.

And newly appointed Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Anna Mwitwa, agreed with the Chief that there was need to look at additional infrastructure for the clinic so that patients could receive medical
care with dignity.

PF in Chadiza bans members from issuing press statements

3

The Patriotic Front (PF) in Eastern Province has halted its members in Chadiza district from issuing press statements anyhow.

Chadiza District PF Secretary, Fidelis Chitambala, said the directives have been issued in order to safeguard the integrity of the party.

“Some members have gone outside the stipulated party procedures of making public sensitive pronouncements on the Patriotic Front
pronouncements,” he said.

Mr Chitambala said that only the District Party Chairperson, the District Secretary and the District Publicity Secretary were mandated to make statements to the press on behalf of the party.

“Certain party members just want to create problems and yet they are not the ones who answer queries from senior party officials when situations get out of hand.” Mr Chitambala said.

He also warned party cadres who are in the habit of intimidating government workers in Chadiza district to stop or face disciplinary
action.

The District Party Secretary was making reference to recent reports that some cadres planned to lock up Chadiza Council Secretary Wisdom Bwalya’s office.

Mr Chitambala said the party was worried that some cadres, especially in Chadiza district, were taking politics as a tool for fuelling their personal aspirations without following the laid down procedures whenever they wanted to participate in public business.

“What cadres should know is that if they want to be part of the people to be awarded contacts in the district they must possess all the necessary documents and not to be favoured just because they are in the ruling party,” Mr Chitambala said.

He said favouring cadres just because they are in the Patriotic Front would only jeopardize the fight against corruption.
