Zesco disconnect Zanaco, Napsa Stars Lead Week One

1

Zesco United on Saturday made an efficient start to their FAZ Super Division title defence today following a 1-0 home win over Zanaco at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The result saw the eight-time champions reclaim some honor just a fortnight after Zanaco defeated them by the same margin in the 2019 Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu Charity Shield final in Lusaka by the same margin.

There was almost a case of Deja Vu in the 15th minute when Zanaco defender and captain Ziyo Tembo, who scored in that final, almost put the visitors ahead.

But his header on the far left post from Tafadzwa Rusike fee kick was cleared by Marcel Kalonda.

Kalonda refused to be outdone but saw his 40th minute free kick from halfway inside Zanaco’s area marched in quality by Toaster Nsabata’s parry to see the two sides go into the break scoreless.

The deadlock was broken in the 54th minutes by Burundi midfield Enock Sabumukama to score in his first match back since recovering from an injury he sustained on 2019 AFCON duty in Egypt.

However, top spot in Week One goes to Napsa Stars who humbled nine-time champions Mighty Mufulira Wanderers 2-0 away at Shinde Stadium.

The ex-Nkana duo of Danny Silavwe and Bonwell Mwape scored in the 89th minutes respectively to see Napsa take to spot.

In second place are Buildcon who left Presidents Stadium in Kabwe with a 2-1 win over promoted Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy.

Kayembe Alidor put Buildcon ahead in the 45th minute, Biramahire Abeddy made it 2-0 in the 56th minute, before Ian Sililo scored KYSA’s consolation in the 66th minute.

At Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Bruce Musakanya scored Red Arrows lone goal in their 1-0 victory over Nakambala Leopards.

In Solwezi, Power Dynamos were shamed 1-0 by new boys Kansanshi Dynamos courtesy of a 55th minute goal by Isaac Ngoma.

And in Choma, 2019 runners-up Green Eagles squandered a one-nil lead to finish 1-1 at home against last seasons nearly-there-men Kabwe Warriors.

Kennedy Musonda put Eagles ahead in the 27th minute but the lead lasted just five minutes when Sydney Phiri equalized for Warriors.

Nkana attempt to end GBFC’s lucky record in Wusakile

0

Nkana open their 2019/20 FAZ Super Division campaign this Sunday with a tricky Week One home date against Green Buffaloes at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

It will be Buffaloes and Nkana’s first meeting since the 2018 season after campaigning in Pool A and B respectively during the 2019 transitional season where they both fared very miserably to finish outside the top five.

Interestingly, Buffaloes have won on all their last three visits to Nkana.
Nkana can only look back to the 2015 season when they beat the Army men in Wusakile.

And in their last home meeting in the 2018 season, Nkana lost 2-1 there.

Striker Idris Mbombo , who has returned to the Nkana after a season in Sudan, scored in that match that coincidentally also saw new signing Diamond Chikwekwe score one to help Buffaloes to victory.

Mbombo later redeemed Nkana’s fortunes in the return leg with a goal in their 1-0 away victory in Lusaka.

The spotlight will again fall on the DR Congo-born striker to see if he can halt Buffaloes’ three-match winning run at Nkana.

However, Nkana will be without Chikwekwe who is ineligible to face Buffaloes due to the terms of his loan agreement between the two clubs.

UPND MPs Are More of Absconders than Representatives

25
UPND MP's seats unoccupied in Parliament this morning
File:UPND MP’s seats unoccupied in Parliament this morning

Analysis by Sunday Chilufya Chanda

One of the main duties, if not the most important, of a Member of Parliament, is to effectively represent their constituents. Save for the occasional by-election, every five years Zambians elect one of their own to be their voice in the house of laws.

While this doesn’t necessarily mean these constituents expect their parliamentary envoy will agree or disagree with everything that comes to the floor, they do expect that these representatives will stand vigilant and firm, serve as their voice and champion their interests within the chambers.

However what we see is a group of absconders rather than representatives, a collection of politicians that, since President Edgar Lungu assumed office, wantonly abandons their legislative business in the name of protesting. This collection, of course, is comprised of the opposition UPND Members of Parliament.

Most recently, these opposition lawmakers have declared they will not support the Constitution Amendment Bill Number 10 that’s currently under review at committee stage. And yes, while they may choose not to support the bill, the manner in which they are going about this is troubling. In effect, they are running away from their duties, opting to stage a walk-out rather than engage in the institutional processes of legislative negotiation and debate available to them. Have they even read it? And if so, what is their major contention?

But we’ve seen this behavior before. While numerous MPs, civil society members and other stakeholders attended the National Dialogue Forum (NDF) that produced this Bill Number 10, the UPND, as a party, was notably absent.

So how can these MPs rubbish a piece of legislation whose resolutions they are not privy to? They have openly declared war against the process when it comes for enactment before the President signs it into law.

Reading a quote by UPND Sesheke MP Romeo Kang’ombe reveals that his party has agreed to frustrate the process potentially at directives of party president Hakainde Hichilema.

Kang’ombe is quoted as saying;

“We did not attend (the National Dialogue Forum) on the pretext that the parliamentary committee that sat and received recommendations from the general public informed the House that we shouldn’t go ahead, but the arrogance of numbers won. So, why should I go if the committee says otherwise. Should I go because the PF members of parliament have pushed their agenda? Even now, as they bring it on the floor of the House, all of us are going to walk out because we are listening to the bigger voice! And we start with the bigger voice and not the minority.”

Although Kang’ombe is new to this session, these tricks are not alien to Zambians. Their misconduct in the house is well documented. The speaker has even cautioned if not outright sanctioned these representatives. They caused a scene when President Edgar Lungu was elected and came to address the house.

In the name of toeing their party line, which is essentially an unyielding refusal to recognize a legitimately elected president, they once walked away on the Head of State but still wanted to get their sitting allowances. Understandably, they were punished. And they ended up apologizing. But it seems they never learn, or worse still, they are on a deliberate course to obstruct and frustrate democratic processes.

Indeed their leader Mr. Hichilema is an avowed obstructionist, and the legislators aligned with UPND are his loyal followers. Accordingly, they’ve undertaken the mission of derailing the progress of the Constitution Amendment Bill at his direction. But what else can their opposition to this legislation be if not gaslighting, distracting or political gaming?

If UPND legislators and party leaders feel that the Constitution Amendment Bill 10 features unwanted stipulations, then they should bring those grievances to the house and engage with fellow parliamentarians from both the opposition and ruling party. Otherwise, what grounds do they have to oppose the outcome?

After all, they stayed away from the NDF where they would have been part of the process and would have possessed considerable understanding of the issues at play. But no, they are lost and don’t seem to know what they are doing.

Look at their leader Hichilema. In one breath he is reporting to the Anti-Corruption Commission allegations of corruption while in another he tells his MPs to walk out on a disagreeable bill in parliament. Do these people have any sense of logic?

It’s clear that the UPND MPs are not representatives but absconders, politically-minded legislators whose supporters should seriously question a their role in parliament. You don’t run away from challenges, but face them by finding solutions and overcoming. This is the most basic social contract between citizens and their elected officials.

Walking out smacks of cowardice and an attempt to earn sitting allowances by false pretense. MPs are to be representatives, not recklessly self-interested absconders. The UPND must overcome their political inclinations and put their case on record. Absconding will yield nothing more than further insult and injury to the people they claim to represent.

ACC Headquarters
ACC Headquarters

The Director,
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC),
Lusaka, Zambia.

Dear Sir/Madam

INVESTIGATIONS ON THE 48 HOUSES

We wish to draw your attention to the above.

  1. Several citizens of our country including ourselves, indicated to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) that you needed to furnish the public with information relating to the identity of true owner(s) of the 48 houses in Lusaka’s Chalala area but to date, as an institution mandated to do so, you have not informed the nation on who owns these properties.
  2. On our part, we now have reason to suspect that while being in possession of all the requisite information relating to identity of the individual (s) who substantively own the said 48 properties, the ACC appear to have willfully withheld this information from the public for fear of political reprisals at the hands of powerful political power brokers.
  3. Thus, we wish to yet again challenge the ACC to salvage their institutional and professional credibility to function, independent of all political tinkering, meddling, influence or intimidation, to disclose the identity of the beneficial owners or person(s) in respect of the 48 properties, based on the information below.

4 BACKGROUND

  • We understand that the plot was initially owned by an individual of Asian origin and you know him.
  • We understand that this individual sold the plot to a group of people who subdivided the same and sold a number of plots.
  • We believe the 48 houses were built between 2012 and 2014 by this mysterious owner.
  • We understand that this owner has 30 complete houses and 18 incomplete houses. Out of the 30 complete houses, 29 maybe occupied.
  • We also understand that this same owner has 30 additional empty plots in the same locality.
vi We understand that the lease agreement for the 29 houses are in the name of a Ndola based lawyer, who you should know.
  • We understand you interacted with the person who has been collecting rentals from tenants.
  • We are aware that these 48 mysterious houses are different from the 49 houses owned by a Politically Exposed Person (PEP) reported in the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) report of 2018 on page 18.

5 FORFEITURE AND CRIMINAL ACTION

  • We are aware that since 2018 you have issued two government gazette notices on the forfeiture of the said 48 houses.
  • We understand an individual from a named Ministry, through himself or a lawyer, has twice claimed ownership of the said properties.
  • We appreciate that the forfeiture was done as a civil action.
  • It is understood that right from the beginning, the owner of these properties intended to conceal both ownership of the properties and the source of the income used to build these properties. This was and remains a criminal act.

6 CALL TO ACTION AND CONCLUSION

  • From information above, we believe you know the owner(s) of these properties and we expect you to tell the Zambian people who this person(s) is and what action you will take.
  • Your failure to take immediate action raises a lot of suspicion on your ability to independently carry out your mandate. If you can fail to conclusively handle this simple matter, how about the 49 houses that have been cited in the FIC report as belonging to a PEP?
  • While this case of the 48 houses is still fresh, we now have the allegedly corrupt and illegal sharing of massive pieces of land by PF aligned individuals and government officials in the Forests 27 and 42. Can Zambians have confidence in your institution to investigate and prosecute those involved, especially that this land was allegedly shared among PF officials, PF aligned government officials and PF aligned senior judicial officers? This is reminiscent of the mafia-style of involving everyone in crime to ensure protection at every level.
  • We expect you to give the Zambian people confidence in the execution of your mandate without the obvious political interference. We, however, sympathise that the Acting Director-General of the ACC is new in the institution and may not be experienced in matters of such nature, but we believe that there are senior officers in the ranks of ACC who are capable of doing a thorough job. We do not expect the ACC to fall into the same category of those who are protecting criminals, as yours is to preserve resources that belong to the people of Zambia.
  • Further, we do not appreciate the statement of 7th August 2019 from the ACC Board Chairperson Judge Anderson Zikonda (rtd) as he was clearly meddling into operational matters rather than policy. This was a clear case of interference in operations as he is a political appointee.
  • The ACC should diligently serve the people of Zambia and not a clique of thieves and the corrupt. The ACC must live up to its expectations and mandate and that you should conclude this matter of the 48 houses without any further delay.

7  To emphasize, from the above, it is clear that you know the owner of these properties and the nation expects immediate action on your part to make public the relevant identity. The ACC should be reminded that Zambians are still waiting for the conclusion of your investigations on the FIC cited 49 (separate) houses owned by a PEP.

Yours in the service of our country.

Hakainde Hichilema
UPND President.

Zambia calls on SADC to Operationalise free movements of people and goods

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure RONALD CHITOTELA.
Minister of Tourism and Arts Ronald Chitotela

Zambia has called on SADC member countries to speed up the operationalisation of protocols and agreements that facilitate for free movements of people and goods.

Minister of Tourism and Arts Ronald Chitotela says SADC member countries should develop policies aimed at progressive elimination of obstacles to the free movement of capital and labour in the region.

Mr. Chitotela said this at the African Leadership Forum held at the Durban International Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa.

Mr. Chitotela said time has come for countries to collectively implement various regional policies enabling free movements in order to achieve objectives of the Continental Free Trade Agreement.

He said Zambia is cognizant of some of the risks involved in the unchecked movement of people, goods and services adding that while the continent has become more open due to globalization, it has equally become more restrictive due to challenges such as illegal trafficking of goods and people.

Mr. Chitotela said countries needed to develop responsive and legally sound policies cohesively in order to effectively tackle the challenges that the region and the continent as a whole were facing.

This is according to a statement issued by First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian High Commission in South Africa Naomi Nyawali.

Japan Prime Minister warns Africa about debt as China grows presence

Japan’s prime minister on Thursday warned African leaders against accumulating too much debt, in an apparent reference to Chinese infrastructure projects that some blame for damaging the finances of developing nations.

Addressing leaders from several African nations at a development conference in Yokohama, Shinzo Abe stressed that Tokyo was promoting “quality” infrastructure exports and investments, supported by Japan’s government-backed institutions.

“What should the government do to encourage (entrepreneurs) to exercise their skills?” Abe asked the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

“If partner countries are deeply in debt, it interferes with everyone’s efforts to enter the market,” he said, introducing financing and insurance schemes by Japan’s government-baked institutions aimed at reducing risks to businesses and public coffers.

He also announced that Japan plans to train experts in 30 African countries in next three years on managing risks and public debts.

The comment came as Abe aims to boost Japan’s presence in the promising African market but many businesses are wary of financial and other risks.

But China, with its ambitious Belt and Road Initiative, now enjoys a massive presence in the continent, having announced $60bn in development funding for Africa last year.
The Chinese efforts, however, have faced criticism for favouring Chinese companies and workers over local economies, saddling nations with debts and ignoring rights and environmental issues.

Japan stresses that its loans and projects come with fewer strings attached and with sound financial advice and support.

Since 1993, Japan has partnered with African countries to hold the TICAD conference around every five years in a drive to promote aid and business opportunities.

Japan, with its own government funding problems, has struggled to increase its foreign aid money.

It has shifted its focus on encouraging the private sector to invest in Africa.

LAZ and UPND are enemies’ of democracy and anarchists-YALI

36
YALI President Andrew Ntewewe
YALI President Andrew Ntewewe

The Young African Leaders Initiative has labeled the Law Association of Zambia and the UPND as enemies’ of democracy and anarchists for refusing to support the Bill to amend the Constitution of Zambia.

YALI President Andrew Ntewewe says the Constitution of Zambia does not belong to LAZ alone but belongs to all Zambians who want to see this Bill thoroughly debated by their representatives in Parliament.

Mr Ntewewe said the only form of dialogue which has remained on the constitution reform process is Parliament and MPs are the only legitimate representatives of the people and not NGOs or Council of NGO who speak for their sponsors.

He alleged that for the UPND and NGOs who follow whatever position the UPND takes do not support the Constitution-making process not because they have seen bad provisions which they could have cleaned up later, but they do not support this process because it does not help Mr. Hichilema as an individual.

Mr Ntewewe said Mr. Hichilema cannot continue with his history of stopping his Members of Parliament from having an independent mind set at a crucial time like this one.

He has reminded Mr Hichilema that the Constitution of Zambia is bigger than him, his egoistic interests and his insatiable lust for power.

Speaking at a media briefing in Kasama today, Mr Ntewewe says what LAZ and UPND should have been doing is not necessarily worry whether parliament has powers to amend the Constitution but have failed to participate in coming up with a constitution that can stand the test of time.

He said YALI is not surprised that the UPND has chosen to boycott the process at all because, there is no time the UPND have supported such a process as long as it does not give Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, the man who has entrenched himself as life president of the UPND, an easy leeway to step into power.

Late Mwanawasa’s daughter and Mahtani fight over Levy’s Teka Farm

34
Part of Mwanawasa’s Teka Farms in Ndola rural

Late President Levy Mwanawasa’s daughter Mirriam has vowed to fight tooth and nail to prevent Businessman Rajan Mahtani from repossessing late Mwanawasa’s Teka Farm in Ndola.

But Dr Mahtani has issued a statement threatening to sue Mirriam for libel and defamation after she revealed details of the plans to kick Mwanawasa’s family off the Farm.

Mirriam who currently lives on the Farm this week took to social media to denounce Dr Mahtani’s plans to take over the Farm.

“Two days ago 8 uniformed police officers went to our other farm and a day later two men went to the farm again seeking clarification on the farm number they were later reffered to Teka farm where I am residing and they informed me they wanted to repossess the farm that they had received instructions through their client that they should engage Bailiffs to repossess the farm. I can not keep quiet and see things fall apart,” Mirriam said.

Mirriam vowed to keep fighting to protect the Farm.

“I am only protecting the interest of the family property which belonged to my late grandmother Miriam Mokola,” she vowed.

“I am not scared of being sued. God is my Refugee. I have nothing to lose except for my soul which I owe to God”.

Mirriam recounted that her Late Father had addressed the issue of the Farms in his Will.

“Part of My late Father’s Will Reads as follows; I Give my farm at Teka Farms in Masaiti District in the Copperbelt Province to my son’s Patrick Mwanawasa and Matolo Mwanawasa to hold Jointly equally. My wife and I have developed a Farm No. 44 Palabana near aforesaid and this is registered in our Joint names to carry on the business of farming under the name of MIPACHIMA FARMS.”

Mirriam has since accused Dr Mahtani of being a disloyal friends to his late Father.

“Ichikupempula echikulya (what visits you is usually what visits you) be careful of people you call your best friend. Your best friend can be eyeing your property. Mathani who was on my father’s bedside in France now wants to inherit our family property. Lesa twafweni . God help us in Jesus Christ Name. Proverbs 23:10.”

Mirriam said she has worked very hard to develop the Farm.

“I found the farm on standstill and I have been developing the farm slowly through God’s grace. This farm belonged to our grandmother and has nothing to do with our step mother’s debt’s. Justice must prevail,” she said.

Mirriam disclosed that Dr Mahtani wants to take over the Farm allegedly because the step Mother Maureen borrowed money from Dr Mahtani.

But Dr Mahtani has threaten to sue Mirriam for publishing what he called a misleading, alarming and infuriating Facebook Post.

He said all the assets and liabilities belonging to Finance Bank were taken over by Atlas Mara following the take over of Finance Bank by African Banking Corporation.

“Dr Mahtani enjoyed both a business and personal relationship with the late Republican President of Zambia Dr Levy Patrick Mwanawasa. Prior to his presidency, Dr Mwanawasa was Dr Mahtani’s personal lawyer. Since Dr Mwanawasa’s untimely demise, Dr Mahtani has continued to enjoy a healthy relationship with the Mwanawasa Family.”

The Church must be ashamed for keeping quiet over Kambwili’s insults-PF’s Paul Moonga

31
Paul Moonga

The Patriotic Front in Lusaka Province says the Church must be ashamed for keeping quiet over the insults showered on President Edgar Lungu by National Democratic Congress President Chishimba Kambwili.

PF Lusaka Province Chairperson Paul Moonga says the Church should have been in the forefront to condemn the NDC Leader instead of keeping quiet on the matter.

Speaking at the PF Secretariat where the party members from Kanyama presented a petition to the Secretary General over Mr Kambwili’s dog remarks directed at President Edgar Lungu, Mr Moonga said the Church has failed on its mandate to promote peace in the country.

And PF Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri who received the petition on behalf of Mr Mwila said Mr Kambwili’s bitterness should come to a stop.

She accused institutions of Governance of failing to protect the President and Zambians in General from the insults coming from the opposition political parties.

And presenting the petition on behalf of PF members from Kanyama, Constituency Chairman Chanda Chilufya said the PF will confide Mr Kambwili to his home and warned that he will be followed if he continues insulting.

Mr Chanda said Mr Kambwili’s insults have cause irreparable damage to President Edgar Lungu’s reputation both locally and internationally.

He appealed to the party Leadership to issue a directive to all party structures to protect President Edgar Lungu from insults coming from the opposition.

Meanwhile Member of the Central Committee Kebby Mbewe urged women to rise against Mr Kambwili’s insults on President Edgar Lungu.

Kanyama Constituency becomes the second to protest against Mr Kambwili’s dog remarks after Chawama Constituency in a series of protests that will take seven days.

The PF structures from all the seven constituencies will tomorrow match to the airport to show solidarity to President Lungu against insults from the opposition.

The Police do not owe us our freedoms. We owe it to ourselves.

File:Police keeping vigil at Lusaka Central Police Station where Dr Kambwili is detained

It is often said, and I have always emphasized, that freedom is never something that is freely given by the oppressor. It must be demanded by the oppressed.

And when I have said on the record and on more than just one platform, that the rule of law in Zambia is broken; and further that the PF administration have created a class society of two different kinds of citizens and laws – one for themselves and those who wear their political colors, and another for the rest of us, Dr. Chishimba Kambwili’s unfortunate episode has more than provided the required clarity on my concerns.

The pictures herein more than demonstrate what I have always tried to explain.

When Laura Miti Pilato and Maiko Zulu wanted to galvanize free citizens for a peaceful protest against what has now become routine, rampant, government sponsored and institutional corruption, the police command under the very bad and questionable leadership of Hon. Stephen Kampyongo and his Ministry of Home Affairs, took close to a whole month trying to make up their dysfunctional minds, whether or not to grand the Human Rights Defenders lattitude to do so. After permission was granted, we were still surrounded and policed like DOGS by the police while we turned up to make our voice heard during the #YellowCard event.

And here now, merely less than 48 hours after Dr. Chishimba Kambwili of the NDC got himself entangled in language semantics that did not flow very well with the PARTE, we have a fully fledged protest authorized in every respect, for PF CADRES and their leaders to walk the streets of Lusaka making themselves heard on the issue.

To be fair, I admire their resolve. I truly do. Because these CADRES understand one thing: in a police state, nothing is given. And you do not ask for it. Go out and get it done.

The police, under the leadership of Mr. Kakoma Kanganja while working under very difficult conditions, are an absolute disgrace. They have, without any amount of shame, carved themselves a demonstrably partisan niche where they only exist to frustrate, suppress and oppress the voices of those who are OPPOSED to the party in power.

Zambians must resist this systematic institutional stupidity of the Zambia Police and retake our constitutional rights and freedoms to free assembly and speech without having to beg for them.

A Zambia in which fundamental Constitutional rights to free assembly and speech are only guaranteed for a few, does not deserve to exist. This is not the country our forefathers died for.

We have to take our country back.

Chiyangi Names Chipolopolo Side For Bafana Friendly

2

Chipolopolo coach Aggrey Chiyangi has named his 27-member team to face Bafana-Bafana South Africa in a friendly on September 7 in Lusaka.

Nine foreign call-ups who are all-based on the continental have been summoned for the home friendly.

Missing will be all the European-based regulars Fashion Sakala of Belgium club KV Oostende including Enock Mwepu and Patson Daka from Austrian champions RB Salzburg.

The trio will also be on national duty during the same period in the 2019 U23 AFCON final round qualifiers against Congo- Brazzaville at home on September 4 and away on September 9.

French-based defender Stopilla Sunzu of Ligue 1 side Metz has again been overlooked by Chiyangi.

South African-based strikers Lazarus Kambole and Justin Shonga of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates respectively will lead the charge against Bafana.

Midfielder Cletus Chama of Simba SC returns to the fold for the first time since March 23 during Chipolopolo’s 4-1 home win over Namibia in a dead-rubber 2019 AFCON Group K qualifier in Lusaka.

But striker Austin Muwowo has not been picked as he struggles to hold down a place at Pirates since moving there this season from Nkana.

Chiyangi has also handed a debut call-up to National Assembly goalkeeper Nkole Nkandu.

Meanwhile, Zanaco defender Ziyo Tembo has not been selected despite his solid performance in the 2019/20 Charity Shield final 1-0 win over Zesco United on August 17 in which he scored the lone goal that capped his first competitive game back after a year away in Saudi Arabia.

Overall, Chiyangi has kept faith in his domestic team for the forthcoming 2020 CHAN qualifiers against eSwatini in September and October that also won the 2019 COSAFA Cup last June.

Kambwili granted bail, pleads not guilty to insulting President Lungu

Former Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili

National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Chishimba Kambwili has pleaded not guilty to one count of defaming President Edgar Lungu.

This is contrary to section 69 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the laws of Zambia.

Kambwili pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Magistrate Lameck Mwale.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Mwale has granted Kambwili a K50, 000 bail in his own recognizance with two working sureties.

Lawyers Christopher Mundia, Gilbert Phiri, Keith Mwemba and Clement Andeleki are representing Kambwili in this matter.

Kambwili has been in police custody since Wednesday.

The matter will come up for mention on September 13, next month and trial in this matter has been set for September 30, 2019.

Kambwili’s other case involving Mwamona Engineering has also been adjourned to September 6, 2019 for continued trial. The magistrate handling this case is Mwaka Mikalile. This is the case where his company was allegedly paid US $566,579.75 by a Chinese company in a transaction over which he has been charged with abuse of authority of office, forgery, uttering a false document, obtaining pecuniary advantage, and possession of huge amounts of money suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Scores of NDC members led by NDC Vice president Joseph’s Akafumba were on hand to give solidarity to the NDC leader.

Zesco-Zanaco Set To Ignite 2019/20 League Kick-off

1

Zanaco visit defending champions Zesco United this Saturday in Week One of the 2019/20 FAZ Super Division season at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The match comes a fortnight after Zanaco beat Zesco 1-0 in the season-opening 2019/20 Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield final in Lusaka on August 17.

It is without any doubt a massive game considering that the two sides have dominated the Zambia league football for over one-and-half decades in which period Zesco has won eight crowns, Zanaco seven, while Nkana, Power Dynamos and Red Arrows have won just one title each.

“We are playing Zesco away and I think it will be a very tough game playing them. I must say Zesco is the best team at the moment in the country but we have the ammunition against them that can give us the result that we want,” Numba said.

Critical for Zanaco heading into the match is the return of defender and Captain Ziyo Tembo who had a solid day against Zesco in the Charity Shield final, and scored against the latter for that matter.

Ziyo’s return after a season spell in Saudi Arabia is hopefully a signal of better things to come after a woeful defensive display by Zanaco last term.

But Zesco head into the match with more match day mileage after a CAF Champions League 1-0 home win over Green Mamba of eSwatini last Saturday at the same venue.

Influential Zesco striker Jesse Were, who opened his season’s account in the victory over Mamba, is expected to lead against Zanaco as the hosts seek to put the record straight at home where they demolished The Bankers 4-1 last June in the 2019 ABSA Cup final.

Were, who scored one in that final, has another three goals against Zanaco from six league meetings since he joined Zesco in 2017.

Zambian DJ and Producer El Mukuka drops his latest single ‘Colder’

Regarded as Zambia’s top DJ/Producer, El Mukuka drops his latest single ‘Colder’ across all digital platforms today. Have a listen to ‘ColderHERE.

He has joined forces with Gallo Record Company to release his latest track ‘Colder’ and the single is everything but what the title suggests. The powerful upbeat dance track is another brilliant club banger from El Mukuka and this time he has created something unique with this single.

“Colder is one of those songs that in a way wrote itself. It’s so personal and straight forward that all I really had to do was allow the words and music to flow out of me uninterruptedly. Something really unique about this song is that I both wrote and sang it, which is something I rarely do. Initially, during the writing process, my vocal takes were only meant to serve as guiding vocals for whoever was eventually going to sing the song. Over time however, my vocals stuck because I later realized just how much the song needed vocals that were rustic, emotive and full of expression,” explains El.

El Mukuka is an unusual story. Born in Lusaka, Zambia to a Greek mother and Zambian father, his appreciation and love for his two diverse cultures not only enriched his identity but also inspired him deeply. The rising African star is regarded as Zambia’s top DJ/Producer and is best known for fusing African music with European deep/melodic house. The young DJ has performed at some of the biggest festivals in sub-Saharan Africa alongside A-List African acts such as Black Coffee, Mi Casa, Goldfish and DJ Maphorisa. Mukuka’s 2016 release “Bottle of Loneliness” earned him a place in the international house scene with various iTunes, Spotify and terrestrial radio chart rankings in Spain, Argentina, Estonia, Russia and Zambia as well as millions of streams worldwide. The song later caught the attention of the European smash hit DJ duo Filatov & Karas who remixed it in 2017 driving the song’s success even further. Since then El Mukuka has had releases on some of the biggest labels in the dance music scene and has signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Budweiser Zambia.

Durban fans can catch El Mukuka on the decks for the Corona Sunsets Festival in Durban on Saturday 28 September. All info HERE.

Kansanshi Dynamos Appeal Fan Ban

Promoted FAZ Super Division side Kansanshi have appealed to their supporters to observe the two-match home ban slapped on them by FAZ over crowd trouble.

Kansanshi are playing their first two home matches minus spectators after the Appeals Committee rejected the club’s appeal over the sanction on Wednesday.

They start their debut Super Division campaign on Saturday against Power Dynamos at Independence Stadium in Solwezi.

“Much as it is painful and frustrating not to witness the first 2 home games, we still have many more to enjoy and your usual support is still needed,” club chairman Mark Silimi said.

“My appeal to you all is that we observe this directive from FAZ by staying away from the game completely by not turning up at the stadium,” Silimi said.

“Again, painful as it maybe, not to watch our first Super League game, we need to abide by this directive to avoid any further sanctions.”

The ban came with a K10, 000.00 fine after the home fans’ unruly behavior during the promotion playoff match against Young Green Eagles at Independence Stadium in Solwezi.
