The UPND has demanded the immediate arrest of Zambia Direct Democracy Movement President Edwin Sakala after he called for the UPND to be banned in the Eastern Province.

And Mr Sakala has defended his call on the Eastern Province Royal Foundation to ban the UPND from the Eastern Province.

In a letter to Senior Chief Nzamane of the Eastern Province Royal Foundation, Mr Sakala said the UPND should not be allowed to exist in the Eastern Province because it does not mean well for Zambia.

Mr Sakala alleged that the UPND must know the people who were behind the post election violence in Southern Province which was targeted against people from Northern and Eastern Provinces.

He also alleged that the UPND knows the people behind the Man Mau movement which he said is now threatening to kill people of Eastern Province.

And UPND Secretary General Stephen Kakuta said police must arrest Mr Sakala for clearing inciting both tribal and civil war in the country.

In a statement, Mr Kakuta said if Mr Sakala is not arrest, the UPND will conclude that the unprofessional arrest of Hakainde Hichilema is based on tribal, political and personal hatred.

Below is Mr Sakala’s Letter to Paramount Chief Mpezeni

KUMAWA CHIEFS MUST BAN UPND

Nkhosi , on behalf of the Zambia Direct Democracy Movement- ZDDM which is one of the oldest and most exposed indigenous opposition parties in Zambia after having worked closely and at a personal level with nearly all the past and current political party leaders in the country and indeed leaders of other African countries including the Great Libyan leader Muammer Qaddafi who was assassinated by the same satanic forces now desperately trying to destroy Zambia as it did to Libya.

We wish to start with conveying greetings, our wish for your good health and long life for you and indeed all our beloved chiefs in the Eastern province that include Nkhosi ya Mankhosi Mpezeni and Gaba Undi.

As a party which had a very rare blessing of working on continental and diaspora “Save Africa” committees chaired by the late Muammer Qaddafi (MHSRIP) for 12 years we are greatly saddened that most Africa countries are caught up in the self destruction and re-colonization trap cleverly designed by the same satanic forces which captured our forefathers like animals into slavery and later colonized us.

This satanic force is using some local selfish and greedy Blacks operating as ‘running dogs” under the guise of NGOs and political parties to set Blacks working against each other as can be seen in countries like South Africa where whites are openly using some Blacks to fight the ANC which paid blood for independence.

Unfortunately the South African “Black running dogs” are now trying to export to Zambia their venom of betrayal and treachery to the African independence war vision.

One can not stop recalling what the whites used to say about us as Blacks Africans before independence when we painful watch and hear the South African so called Black opposition parties and unions insult their leaders with whites cheering them on. They don’t realize that the whites are deep down in their hearts laughing at them for being too stupid to realize that they are destroying their own future.

These Blacks don’t realize that it is very easy to destroy than to build because even an idiot can destroy but find it impossible to build as this require thinking.

It is against this background that ZDDM is prompted to write you this letter asking all the chiefs in the province to ban the United Party for National Development- UPND in the province because this party and its white sponsored friends in South Africa do not mean well for Zambia.

The UPND must definitely know who among Its members were behind the cruel attacks and burning of houses belonging to people from Eastern and Northern province after the announcement the last election results and calling themselves Mau mau now threatening to kill people from Eastern province.

The UPND cannot claim that they don’t know the criminals among its members behind this satanic crusade.

Our party is not taking the threats being made against the people from Eastern province in southern province lightly because of what happened in the very recent past.

While calling on the national security network to hunt down these criminals we want the chiefs in Kumawa to ban the UPND until the time when it will expose the members behind this evil scheme. ZDDM however will not allow the people of Eastern province to be caught up in this Satanist plot aimed at fanning chaos and bloodshed in Zambia.

ZDDM is fully aware that this is a last resort and desperate political gimmick by the people trying to divide the nation on tribal line to cause anarchy using termed called Armageddon.

We thank Nkhosi ya Mankhosi Mpezeni for his timely intervention last August when the same group attacked Easterners and Bembas in Southern province.

With this new threat we expect the Chiefs not only to ban the UPND but also to consider treating any Easterner supporting this party for monetary gain as a traitors and enemies of the people of Kumawa.

The question every Easterner should be asking themselves is how a true son of Kumawa can support a party which is campaigning to kill their own people and indeed which beat up and burn houses of their brothers and sisters in its stronghold territory.

ZDDM is also expecting the chiefs in the Kumawa to consider supporting the ZDDM agenda of Zambia adopting a new kind of Federal system which will ensure that each of the 72 tribes in the initial 72 districts govern themselves to close the door of tribalism which the Satanists are trying to use in their desperation to destroy Zambia.

Let each tribe take full responsibility of their own land and development.

This new system will give a chance to all those aspiring for political leadership like the UPND to focus on saving their tribal land being purchased and fenced off by foreigners while they waste time and energy on antagonistic agendas compromising the future of the whole nation.

Kumawa and other provinces will also be able to focus on exploiting the abundant natural resources and defending every piece of land from the satanic forces who are using the divide and rule to set Zambians on a self destruction path.

Nkhosi, ZDDM witnessed how the running dogs of the satanic forces destroyed Libya.

We can now see that the same strategy of demonizing hard working leaders like Presidents Jacob Zuma and Edgar Changwa Lungu which they used to fan hate and mistrust for leaders like Saddam Hussein and Muammer Qaddafi who they portrayed as demons and dictators is already repeating in South Africa which is also trying to export their betrayal of the African vision to Zambia.

We cannot allow this demonization trick to work against our president Edgar Lungu who is a hard working, honest and committed democrat hence our commitment to stop this evil force from repeating what it did to Iraqi and Libya in this part of Africa.

We don’t want Zambia to end up in ruin with thousand killed including the running dogs with their families as it happened in the once shinning Libya all because of a few selfish and greedy money hungry individuals belonging to political parties like UPND which are daring fate by entertaining thoughts of committing crime against humanity.

ZDDM President

PRESS STATEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

07/06/2017

THE POLICE MUST ARREST ZDDM LEADER, EDWIN SAKALA WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT FOR INCITING BOTH TRIBAL AND CIVIL WAR IN THE COUNTRY.
_________________________

Fellow country men and women,

We would like to call on the Inspector general of police, Mr Kakoma Kanganja to with immediate effect arrest the Zambia Direct and Democracy Movement Leader, Mr Edwin Sakala over his public statement that our party members have been killing people from Eastern province but living in Southern province, and that Chiefs from Eastern province must ban our party and punish anyone from Eastern province supporting our party in that region.

Mr Sakala is clearly inciting both tribal and civil war in the country and if the police are professional, they must take action against him before citizens begin maiming each other following his statement.

We urge the Police to take action against Mr Sakala as he has clearly committed what we may call a treasonous offense and Mr Kanganja must deploy his officers just like he did to our party President, Hakainde Hichilema who did not commit any offense.

UPND is a party with a national character and currently has Members of Parliament, Mayors, Council Chairpersons and Councillors in Southern province drawn from across the country and really our party has no time for trivial issues such as what Mr Edwin Sakala is hallucinating about.

We want to challenge Mr Sakala to tell the nation which party in this country can be compared to the UPND on issues of embracing people from other regions and eventually elevating them to top leadership.

We also would like to challenge Mr Edwin Sakala to show us which other province has MPs or Mayors from other provinces other than our party, the UPND.

Mr Edwin Sakala further alleges that there is a group called Mau Mau in southern province that is killing people from Eastern province, well we once again call on the Police not to look any further but Mr Sakala because seemingly he has information if not part of the scheme aimed at victimising the people from that province.

As a responsible party, we will also be reporting Mr Edwin Sakala to the Police over his unpalatable but well calculated divisive and civil war promoting statement as he is praising the PF and its leaders over misfortunes.

If Mr Edwin Sakala is not arrested by the Police, we will once again conclude that the unprofessional arrest of our party President, Mr Hakainde Hichilema is based on political, tribal, and personal hatred ground.

Our party, will always embrace everyone including those that don’t believe in democracy because ours, is to move this country forward.

Stephen Katuka
UPND Secretary General.

Zambia and Madagascar have reaffirmed their commitment to the PARIS Agreement on Climate Change due to the devastating adverse effects that the phenomenon has had on the two countries including the Southern African Development Community (SADC)and the entire African continent.

The two countries have expressed profound concern at the adverse effects that Climate Change has had not only on Zambia and Madagascar but the SADC region and the entire African region .

The two nations in addition acknowledged that this was real hence the need to show serious commitment to addressing its challenges.

Republican President Edgar Lungu , and his counterpart President Hery Rajaonarimampianina , who is in the country for a two- day Official Visit reaffirmed their commitment today during official talks the two countries had today at State House.

President Lungu bemoaned the Cyclone that hit Madagascar in March this year and commended the Malagasy government for the measures that it put in place to address the adverse effects of climate change on that country especially on its vulnerable communities.

The President also shared with his counterpart, Zambia’s serious experiences of climate change which left the country with serious power deficit due to reduced water levels in the country’s water bodies such as Kariba dam.

“I can assure you of Zambia’s support towards addressing these challenges, climate change is real. Zambia believes in the collective response to challenges presented by climate change and the promotion of a harmonised approach in the region on climate change issues,” the President said.

Mr Lungu also reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment towards efforts aimed at maintaining peace and security in the region and the African continent saying there is need for peace in the region and the entire African continent.

“There can be no sustainable development without any peace in any country. Zambia strongly believes that internal peace in African countries must be maintained.

“ It is for this reason that l wish to put it on record Zambia’s commendation to the Malagasy government for the positive strides that your country has made in rebuilding your country,” the Republican President said.

Mr. Lungu expressed hope that regional efforts will contribute to the process of consolidating peace and security in the region particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Lesotho and called for support from Madagascar towards Zambia’s efforts to bring peace to the region and the African continent.

And President Rajaonarimampianina also lamented the adverse effects that climate change had posed on Madagascar and the African continent in general adding that this is why Madagascar will stick to the PARIS Agreement.

The Malagasy President said Madagascar and Zambia were facing the same challenges caused by climate change.

Mr Rajaonarimampianina observed that every year Madagascar is hit by cyclone and drought but that his country did not relent in addressing the challenges hence the various measures put in place to mitigate the impact.

The Malagasy President agreed that Zambia and Madagascar shared the same vision on peace and security in the region noting that there can be no economic development in the region without peace and security.

“Madagascar fully supports all peace and security efforts in the region and Africa. That is why we fully support Zambia’s role in its efforts to promote peace and security to the Democratic Republic of Congo under the framework of the African Union,” Mr Rajaonarimampianina said.

At the same meeting, Zambia and Madagascar pledged to escalate bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples.

This is contained in a statement by President Lungu’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda.

Return to multipartism has been hijacked by individuals-Chiluba

Gerald Chiluba meeting MMD National Secretary Raphael Nakacinda at the party Secretariat in Lusaka
Gerald Chiluba meeting MMD National Secretary Raphael Nakacinda at the party Secretariat in Lusaka
MMD Die Hard Youths National Coordinator Gerald Chiluba says individuals have hijacked the main reason for returning to multipartism and have now started to use it as a tool for advancing personal agendas.

Mr Chiluba who is a former a student leader and activist at Copperbelt University (COBUSU) said the people that fought for Multipartism did so for citizens to use political parties as platforms for expressing themselves to the government and not for propagating hate and cheap propaganda.

He noted that of late it has become fashionable for political parties whether big or small to champion the individual agendas of their leaders as opposed to using the platform to speak for the downtrodden in the country.

He adds that placing the interests individuals by political parties has the potential to weaken the governance system of the country hence the need for them to stop the retrogressive tendency.

“Our democracy is been used to champion the agenda not of the majority but that of the few selfish individuals. A number of political parties are becoming petty and slowly loosing there relevance because they reflect more on the views of the few selfish individuals instead of reflecting on the sentiments of their members.

“Political parties are one of the major platforms through which people’s aspirations should be brought to the attention of the government and the nation, but what we are witnessing today is a sad state of affairs. They have become a platform where these selfish individuals are using them to express their frustrations.

“Some political parties no longer give hope to the people when campaigning but only give assurance of vengeance and retaliation which have nothing to do with improving the wellbeing of people,” he said.

He said political parties should revisit the reasons for their being formed and get back to the co-duty of being the voice of the voiceless in society.

“We are of the view that a number of political parties should go back to the drawing board and put their houses in order. They should start practising politics which are in line with the provisions of the Republican constitution, which is aimed at providing a basket of broad ideas and an ideal environment for innovation and creativity.”

Mr Chiluba further called on the registrar of societies to sternly deal with parties abrogating the republican constitution.

“We want to also take this opportunity to appeal to the registrar of societies not to relent in deregistering parties that do not adhere to the requirements of the Republican Laws and rules and provisions within their Party Constitutions, as certain individuals have hijacked these political platforms to propagate hatred and cheap propaganda thereby making politics unappealing especially to the youths and eventually killing the participatory democracy which we as MMD fought hard to bring,” he said.

China’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that 31 Chinese nationals who had been held for illegal mining in Zambia have departed the country to return home.

China had complained that Zambia provided no strong evidence of crimes committed by the 31 arrested on the Chingola, including a pregnant woman and two victims of malaria.

But the Zambian Immigration Department said the Chinese would have to be deported for violating the law.

“After repeated representations by China’s Foreign Ministry and its embassy in Zambia, on the afternoon of June 6, the 31 Chinese citizens that had been seized and detained boarded a plane and left Zambia smoothly to return home,” Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.

In a letter, the 31 had expressed their “satisfaction” with the Chinese embassy’s efforts on their behalf, Ms. Hua told a regular news briefing.

Answering questions from Journalists, Ms Hua said “I am pleased to tell you that after China’s Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Zambia made multiple representations with the Zambian side, the 31 Chinese nationals have left from Zambia for China by air on the afternoon of June 6 local time.”

She said, “According to my information, relevant departments of Zambia allowed normal departure of these 31 people. Before leaving, they wrote a letter of thanks to the Chinese Embassy to express their appreciation of and satisfaction with the work done by the embassy.”

Chinese companies have invested more than US$1 billion in Zambia, but there has been animosity, with some Zambian workers accusing firms of abuses and underpaying.

UNPD, HH and Treason Charge

Introduction

I have been very busy with work. President Trump has been in power here in the United States for about 4 months. But many of us citizens who live with his reckless actions, poor governing, and ill-conceived twitter statements feel like he has already been in power for 5 long years. We are exhausted. President Trump and his entire White House staff is under siege as the Russian hacking election scandal has cast a dark cloud on his administration. I have not been following Zambian politics since last October 2016. So when a friend sent me some news articles about politics in Zambia that perked my interest.

International News

Some of the international news articles had alarming headlines that President Lungu was becoming authoritarian; that democracy was in danger in Zambia. Some articles said Lungu was becoming a dictator locking up his opposition opponent because of trumped up charges. These articles never give you actual details because many of them are used to just throwing labels around like “authoritarian”, “dictator” on African countries without bothering about details. When I saw a headline that said the opposition leader had been charged with treason and thrown in jail for a simple traffic stop that sparked my interest to dig deeper.

What I found out just looking on line is that there were so many news stories published within Zambia reported from the government, from the police, from the opposition leaders and other public commentators. Opposing ideas, allegations of the PF and President Lungu abuse of power, public protests, court trials, demonstrations, reports of police arrests and torture, strong opinions, and even insults are being expressed freely through the press and public conversations. The international press and those who are saying President Lungu and Zambia are descending into authoritarianism and dictatorship are not telling the truth. At worst this is being disingenuous and intellectual laziness in reporting.

Treason Charge Stunning

When I looked at the events surrounding the treason charge, I was stunned. I was even more stunned when apparently one of UPND and HH’s cadres decided to put video clips of the incident on the internet on YouTube. The aim of the video tapes was to show how President’s Lungu’s motorcade police car with its flashing lights nearly rammed into Hakainde’s car. I have driven on those narrow tarred roads in rural Zambia. As recently as July 2016 I personally drove from rural Lundazi all the way to Solwezi. How can an opposition leaders’ 60 car long motorcade drive next to the President’s motorcade? This should no longer be about election results but about 14 million Zambians respecting the security of the individual who is occupying the Office of the President; whether it is Hakainde, Lungu, or any future elected Presidents. The incident looked more dangerous on the YouTube video clip than when you read descriptions about it. People who instigate these things should think seriously many times. There could easily have been a dangerous incident during the motorcade fiasco that could have sparked the whole Zambian nation on fire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_fOxZNHWtI

2016 Presidential Elections

During the August Presidential election the PF and Edgar Lungu won 1,860,877 which was 50.35%of the vote; the UPND and Hakainde Hichilema won 1,760,347 which was 47.35% of the votes. The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) declared the PF and Edgar Lungu the winner. The UPND lodged a petition alleging massive rigging by the PF. Both UPND and the PF were ready to present their cases in court. The Zambian Constitutional Court threw out the petition because the 14 days within which it is legally allowed to adjudicate and rule on the case had expired. The UPND supporters have staged protests and lodged court filings since then. National elections will never be squeaky clean. It might help for the opposition in Zambia to look at how opposition leaders both in Zambia and in other countries have handled similar situations.

In the 1960 American Presidential elections, President Kennedy won the national popular vote by 112,827 a narrow margin of 0.17% against Richard Nixon. After his loss, Nixon and the Republican Party discovered that in the crucial state of Illinois, thousands of dead voters had voted in that election. Richardson Nixon refused to file charges in court to protest the election result. He did not want to plunge the nation into chaos. Nixon peacefully worked very hard in opposition and won the Presidency 8 years later.

Respect the Office

Everyone understands that UPND and Hakainde have not made it a secret that they won’t recognize President Lungu. But creating a near dangerous Presidential motorcade incident should not be one of the ways to protest or resist. The courts also should never be used to overturn an election that was in August 2016.
What Mr. Hakainde Hachilema should have done during the very dangerous motorcade incident, was for him to order his own supporters in the long motorcade (See it on YouTube) to pull over and stop. His own supporters would probably have loudly opposed him. But then he should have stood up on a car with a megaphone and said something like: “We are not respecting Lungu personally as an individual but the Office of the President. He is the current leader of our country, let his motorcade pass safely.” That’s what a good strong leader and opposition would do from now up to the next election. That would improve the chances of Hakainde and UPND winning the next presidential election.

President Edgar Lungu has upgraded Levy Mwanawasa Hospital into Levy Teaching Hospital (LTH) at a cost of 48 million United States Dollars.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the expansion of phase two of the Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital, President Lungu says the expansion will bring on board specialized medical services to ensure quality health care in the country.

In a speech read on his behalf by Vice President Inonge Wina, President Lungu says the upgraded facility will accommodate 3, 000 students.

President Lungu has since praised the Chinese government for their continued support and immense generosity shown through its unwavering support to the Zambian government and particularly to Levy Teaching Hospital since its inception.

He says government has an on-going robust programme of constructing health facilities across the country in line with the vision of providing equitable access to cost effective, quality health care services as close to the family as possible.

And speaking at the same event, Chinese State Councilor Wang Yong says the Hospital will be expanded from 239 to over 800 bed capacity health facility.

Mr. Yong says this is the biggest health institution built by China in Africa.

Speaking earlier Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya thanked the Chinese government for its continued commitment support to the country stating that the expansion will transform the health sector in Zambia.

Meanwhile Munali Member of Parliament Professor Nkandu Luo has thanked government for taking this development in her constituency.

She says this will create jobs for the youths in her constituency.

President Lungu,HH ;Please save ‘baby’ Zambia

50

According to the Bible (1 Kings 3:16-28) one day, two women presented themselves before King Solomon. They were in dispute over a baby. One of them claimed it was her baby, while the other insisted it was hers. They argued back and forth in front of the King until he finally interjected.

“Someone, bring me a sword,” he ordered. “Cut the baby in half! That way each of you can have part of him.”

While the first woman professed her love for the child and pleaded for him not to be killed, the other woman consented to the decree so that neither of them will have the child.
“Don’t kill the baby,” King Solomon exclaimed. He pointed at the first woman and said, “She is his real mother. Give the baby to her.”

Everyone in Israel was impressed when they heard about the decision Solomon had made. What do we make of this decision, in particular reference to the current political logjam we find ourselves in as a nation?

Last year, the electorates trooped to the polls to elect a new leader expected to preside upon the affairs of the land, and of course steer the nation to economic prosperity for the next 5 years. Votes were laboriously compiled as frustration and pressure mounted at the rate it was taking to unveil the victor. Lungu was eventually declared winner amidst a cloud of vehement protest from UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema. The later immediately jumped on his skates and dashed to court alleging vote rigging! However, due to some technicalities and legal gymnastics, the matter couldn’t be exhaustively concluded and remains pendulous……..well, according to my humble knowledge at least. To this day, Hakainde and his ardent followers refuse to recognize Lungu as President.

There’s no need to bury our heads in sand and pretend all well; the previous elections have left the nation more polarized than before! Even President Lungu himself is on record having confirmed this. Speaking in Chinsali during a church service in honour of freedom fighter Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe’ s wife Salome not so long ago, Lungu observed that the country was no longer one and that the one Zambia, one nation motto was only on the lips of others.

We seem to be having some dangerous tribal zealots in the nation that strongly feel that only, and only folks they share ethnic affinity with deserve to be President! Former Katuba Member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa couldn’t have put it in a better context when he wrote the following on his Facebook page: “Who is actually running tribal politics in Zambia. It is very interesting in PF circles to hear some quarters advocating for a Bemba President for the Party. I find this interesting especially that some Bemba leaders went home calling UPND a tribal party for its insistence that a Tonga should run the Party as President.”

This actually presents us a vivid picture of the way our politics have degenerated to levels that constantly threaten the very fragile strands that still hold us together as a nation. What happened to the church of 1990s that brought the ruling party and opposition to the negotiating table when the nation was on the brink of civil strife? What about civil society, LAZ and students movement?

Anyway we don’t intend to reminisce about the good old days with nostalgia; rather the thrust of this article is to promote dialogue between President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and leader of the main opposition political party in the nation Hakainde Hichilema. To put it more succinctly I’ll borrow the words of one Emmanuel Chilekwa,

“Both HH and Lungu shall one day not be there; Zambia shall be there. Before these two men, there were other leaders in their political parties.”
How would you want posterity to judge you? The power lies within you to save this nation from total collapse. Salute!
