The Mineral Production Monitoring Project has handed over to the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development two Isuzu KB300 vehicles provided by the European Union to help with outreach programs to the mines.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at new government complex in Lusaka, head of infrastructure at the European Union in Zambia Mr Adam Grodzicki said the vehicles will be used to directly support the Ministry of Mines as it works to improve Mineral Production Monitoring here in the country.
“The vehicles will enable travel to various mine sites in Zambia for inspections, audits and training sessions. With these vehicles the Ministry of Mines will fully execute its mandate as the regulator of the mining industry. It will allow the Ministry to be on-site as it works with the mines to ensure their processes, procedures and systems are correct and accurate.”
Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Mr Paul Chanda commended the European Union’s support of the Zambian government’s efforts to build strength and sustainability in mineral production monitoring.
“I am encouraged by the prospect of enhancing our ability to travel directly to our mining partners, so that cooperation with the mines can be nurtured and sustained.”
Mr Grodzicki says the European Union has already actively supported the development of a digital reporting system for the mines and has funded new laboratory equipment for the Ministry so that better analyses can be done on materials produced and exported by the mining companies.
