FAZ summons Nkana after Charity Shield mini-storm

1

Nkana have been summoned to appear before the FAZ disciplinary committee on April 8 in Lusaka.

This is after their unruly fans briefly disrupted the 2017 Charity Shield final on April 2 against Zesco united at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Nkana lost that match 2-0.

“Nkana has been summoned in connection with their fans’ unruly behavior during last Sunday’s Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndlovu Charity Shield final between Zesco United and Nkana at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium,” FAZ spokesperson Desmond Katongo said.

Nkana fans briefly brought to a halt the match for over five minutes in the 58th minute after defender and captain Donashano Malama was sent off for stomping Zesco defender Ben Adama in an off-the-ball incident.

The fans then bombarded the pitch with alcoholic and plastic bottles before they were calmed down by Nkana officials.

And Katongo added that two other clubs will also appear before the FAZ disciplinary committee and they are Livingstone Pride and Kazungula FC.

“The Association has also summoned Livingstone Pride in connection with the club’s abandoned week 17 league game involving Zambeef Sinazongwe on 24th July, 2016,” Katongo said.

“FAZ has further summoned Kazungula to a hearing on their abandoned week 18 league game involving Zambeef Sinazongwe on 31st July, 2016.”

National Action for Quality Education (NAQEZ) Executive Director Aaron Chansa has expressed his divergent view concerning the planned transfer of all primary schools in Zambia to local authorities.

Mr. Chansa said in a telephone interview with Pan African Radio today the 5th April, 2017 that the concept of devolving education to councils is good but Zambia is not yet ready to undergo such a process.

He noted that almost all Local Authorities in Zambia are overwhelmed with huge administrative and financial constraints which have made them to be very incompetent as well as lacking the sense of urgency in service provision.

Mr. Chansa stated that in most cases the Zambian Councils have failed to provide just basic services to residents, adding that the transfer of all primary schools to local authorities would be a risky administrative experiment.

He has since urged the Ministry of Education to be extremely cautious on this exercise as it has the potential to destabilize the few gains the sector has so far scored.

The NAQEZ Executive Director further advised the Ministry of Education to clearly explain how it intends to devolve this very important service, and the exact roles officers in the Ministry of Education and those from local Government will be playing because their explanation would help to dispel the apprehension currently obtaining among teachers and other stakeholders.

“In most cases the Zambian Councils have failed to provide just basic services to residents” Mr. Chansa said

UNITED States (US) Ambassador to Zambia Eric Schultz says America has never considered Zambia to be under a dictatorship government.

Mr Schultz said in an interview in Ndola yesterday that it is not true that Zambia has been a dictatorship.

On Monday, United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema claimed he has been talking to US President Donald Trump over the alleged violation of human rights by the Patriotic Front (PF) government.

Mr Hichilema claimed, President Trump will be dealing with African dictators soon after he settles in office.

He said the cancellation of the UPND planned rally in Kanyama township in Lusaka on Sunday was a total violation of human rights.

“Ambassadors do not normally talk directly to the President, that is why we have the Secretary of State. And we have not considered Zambia to be a dictatorship, and I think in the face of it, it is completely untrue,” he said.

He said this after he handed over the Kalewa Garrison Camp Hospital, which has been built at a cost of about US$1 million with assistance from the US government.

And Copperbelt Minister Bowman Lusambo told Mr Schultz when he paid a courtesy call on the provincial administration that President Lungu is one of the most democratic leaders in the world.

“What I can assure you is that the Copperbelt is politically stable. As you might be aware, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is one of the most democratic leaders in the world,” Mr Lusambo said.

He said President Lungu is eager to see strengthened co-operation between the Zambian and US governments in many areas of economic interest.

Ndola mayor Amon Chisenga said Zambia needs to learn from the way American politicians practise democracy by readily accepting election results and recognising the President once he or she is sworn in.

MINISTER of Transport and Communication Brian Mushimba has commended Zambia Postal Services Corporation (Zampost) for implementing a solid business strategy towards the transformation of the corporation into a viable entity.

Mr Mushimba has also challenged parastatals under the ministry as well as other parastatals to think outside the box and become innovative to create value for shareholders.

Mr Mushimba said Government is impressed with the ambitious diversification agenda that the corporation has embarked on over the past six years.

“It is amazing to see a bouquet of products that is making the entity profitable and paying dividends to Government.

“The diversification strategy has transformed the post office into a one stop shop which provides essential services to customers,” he said.

Mr Mushimba cited e-letter service and the acquisition of the deposit taking licence for Micro Finance Limited as some interesting innovations that have been implemented.

He was speaking during the handover ceremony of two delivery vans donated by the United Nations Development Programme in Ndola recently.

And Mr Mushimba assured the Zampost board of Government’s support to ensure that the corporation succeeds and remains competitive in the marketplace.

He said there is need for parastatals to turn around their operations by being creative and innovative.

He said Government has been very supportive to the institutions for them to create value for the shareholder.

During the official opening of the 11th Session of Parliament, President Lungu spoke on the need for parastatals to be commercially viable and profitable and within three to five years list on the Lusaka Securities Exchange.

Mr Mushimba said President Lungu’s call meant parastatals should clean their books, inefficiencies and embrace innovations, technology and deliver value to shareholders.

Zampost board chairperson Elizabeth Kachamba said the prospects of the corporation looked bright for the year 2017, based on sound business strategy, diligence, innovation and integrity which have been laid.

Golf prodigy Aaron Simfukwe is banking on home-ground advantage as he seeks glory at the 2017 Zambia Open at Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe.

The Zambia Open bankrolled by Mopani and Redpath takes place from 28 May to 4 June.

Simfukwe made a cut at the same event staged at Nkana two seasons ago.

“Actually, I have got more advantage because I have been practicing on this golf course for a long time,” he said.

“I know all the corners of this golf course. I know where I made mistakes last time,” said the 2015 Mazabuka Golf Open champion.

Simfukwe is looking forward to bettering his performance at the Zambia Open.

“Last time I made a cut, hopefully this year I will play better than last time,” he said.

Simfukwe last year won the Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket title in Namibia.

Simfukwe is also backing more local golfers to excel the international championship.

“It is very possible for a Zambian to win. We only need to prepare well and practice more. We also need exposure and more support.”

I have enough evidence to prove corruption at Zambia Revenue Authority-Chishimba

UPP’s Savior Chishimba
UPP’s Savior Chishimba
United Progressive People (UPP) President Saviour Chishimba insists that he has enough evidence to prove his alleged corruption at the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) regarding k140 million projects involving the Chinese contractors.

Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda said UPP leader Saviour Chishimba’s claims are unfounded and should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.

Dr. Chishimba explained that the UPP categorically stated that the Chinese proposed to undertake the project at K84 million but the total donor funding allocated to the project was K140 million.

He also noted that the UPP had warned ZRA against choosing a firm known as Inspur, which he said it lamentably failed to deliver in Zimbabwe due to massive corruption and monopolization of the supply of Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs)

“We have enough evident on ZRA corruption and we are warning Kingsley Chanda against being a defend of corruption at ZRA” he said

And the UPP leader said ZRA Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda should desist from pronouncements that make ZRA look like it is now a political party in Zambia.

He said the UPP does not expect ZRA to denigrate the UPP leadership over a credible matter of national interest, adding that his party will not wait to be in Government to help solve problems Zambians are faced with.

“We want to advise ZRA Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda to desist from pronouncements that make ZRA look like it is now a political party in Zambia” Dr. Chishimba said

Zambia Society for Public Administration (ZSPA) President Kelvin Esiasa has bemoaned the rampant peddling of false information in Zambia to the point of forging the Police letter.

Mr. Esiasa noted with sadness that the manner in which people are raising alarm among citizens in Zambia is worrying because that may any time soon ruin the peace which the country has enjoyed since independence.

He has since urged perpetrators of the vice to stop forthwith and do the right because disseminating falsehoods will not benefit anyone.

Mr. Esiasa also called on the general public who may have information about the culprits to report them to the police as this is a serious misdemeanor.

There have been a lot of falsehoods circulating on social media platforms for some time now and no person has since been arrested so far for executing such a crime deemed to be very serious in Zambia.

“We want to express our concern on the increased rate at which people have been peddling false information to the point of forging the Zambia Police letter” Mr. Esiasa said

United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has said hearing the Presidential Petition is the only key to compel him and the entire UPND to stop talking about the 2016 General election aftermaths.

Speaking during a media briefing at his Lusaka’s new Kasama residence on Monday the 3rd April, 2017, Hichilema said coercing him to recognize Edgar Lungu as a dully elected President of Zambia without hearing the Petition is just a sheer waste of time because he will not concede until justice prevails on 2016 election results.

Hichilema, who insisted that he will not be forced to recognize President Edgar Lungu due to the fact the Presidential Petition was not heard in the courts of law said if they want him to be silent the petition should be heard forthwith.

The Opposition leader who was also hasty to convey a message of condolences to the families that lost their beloved ones during the fracas in kanyama involving his supporters and the Zambia Police on Sunday the 02nd April, 2017, Hichilema said the incidence was regrettable and has since accused President Edgar Lungu of killing citizens using the Police for his selfish motives.

“Hearing the Presidential Petition is the only key that can compel him and the entire UPND to stop talking about the 2016 General election results” Hichilema said

And commenting on Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo’s statement suggesting that the opposition UPND have been banned from holding rallies in the country until they reform and accept that President Lungu is Republican President, Hichilema said the statement by the Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo was due to lack of understanding on the Public Order Act which regulates Public gathering in Zambia.

He said the Home Affairs Minister should just go back to Katondo Street and continue with street his street business because the office he is currently holding too big for him.

“He should just go back to Katondo Street because that office is too big for him” He said

Hichilema also noted that Zambia is deprived economically due to the Patriotic Front (PF)’s poor leadership under President Edgar Lungu whom he described as a dictator and clueless leader.

Meanwhile, Hichilema has confirmed that he will attend the Kuomboka ceremony alongside his Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba slated for 8th April, 2017 after failing to take place for three years due to poor rainfall in Zambia.

“GBM and I are going for Kuomboka ceremony, I know someone thought we will not attend as UPND” Hichilema said

UPND leaders’ hunger for power is dangerous for Zambia’s democracy

Pentecostal Fellowship of Zambia (PFZ) and the Bishops Council of Zambia have condemned the UPND for disobeying police orders and allegedly stabbing a man to death and injuring several others, saying illegality should not be condoned in the country.

PFZ executive director Naison Nyonyo said the UPND leaders’ hunger for power is dangerous for the country’s democracy.

Bishop Nyonyo, who is also Church of God Cathedral of Miracles senior pastor, said elections were held last year when President Lungu emerged victorious and that all observers declared the polls as having been free and fair and must, therefore, be respected.

“What the UPND did was unnecessary and this led to loss of a life; they should have adhered to police instructions,” he said.

He said there is no need to have conflicts in the country because Zambia is a Christian nation and has laws that should be followed.

Bishops Council of Zambia spokesperson Fred Chongole said the UPND should have found another way of airing their grievances if they were not happy with the police decision not to allow them to hold a rally.

Mr Chongole said violence must not be used in exercising one’s rights.

“Violence, if not checked, can destroy the country’s peace and bring chaos; politicians must learn to dialogue,” he said.

And MMD national secretary Raphael Nakacinda has accused the UPND of being a party full of hatred and allegedly itching to spill blood.

Mr Nakacinda called on the Church to pray for the UPND because the traits they are exhibiting are dangerous for the country.

He said the MMD, being a party which declared Zambia a Christian nation, will not entertain such acts to continue in the country.

On Sunday, suspected UPND cadres stabbed a man to death and assaulted several others after a rally scheduled for Kanyama township flopped.
