FORMER Defence Minister George Mpombo has backed President Edgar Lungu’s style of leadership describing him as a leader who has a heart for all the Zambians and wants the best for Zambia.

Mr. Mpombo who yesterday shared a platform in Kalumbila District with President Lungu to drum up support for the Patriotic Front (PF) candidate in the September 24, Solwezi West by-elections, expressed his admiration at what the Head of State has achieved so far in terms of fostering development to different parts of the country.

The PF is banking on Martin Mbaya to scoop the Solwezi West seat.

Mr. Mpombo who served in government under the MMD, said President Lungu had managed to turn around the economic fortunes of North Western Province in the time that he had been in office.

“President Edgar Lungu has demonstrated that he has the passion for this province, he wants to get this province out of abuse and underdevelopment, and he has the capacity to do that. You have seen that the Chingola-Solwezi Road is being worked on and this was done even without the by-elections, so I can say that President Lungu is an all weather friend of North Western Province,” Mr. Mpombo said amid applause from the hundreds of residents that attended the public rally at Musele grounds.

He said if other leaders failed to deliver development in the past, it would be unfair to suggest that the same would happen under President Lungu judging by his vision to transform the country’s economic landscape.

President Lungu urged the people in Solwezi West to vote for Mr. Mbaya in order to enhance connectivity with the Government so as to develop the area.

“To avoid a disconnection with the Government, give us Mbaya because if you give us someone else, there will be no network, you will be out of coverage,” Mr. Lungu said.

He said the PF had witnessed increased number of people joining it under his leadership because he was a leader who embraced everyone.

Mr. Lungu noted that it would be difficult for him to advise or work with a different MP rather than Mr. Mbaya who had shown that he was a humble man, who was ready to listen to the people.

He said the ruling party had realised that power belonged to the people and would therefore endeavour to ensure that the electorate were not disappointed.

The President said the only reward that he could give to the Zambian people for putting the PF in power would be to deliver development.

Mr. Mbaya promised the people that he would work with them to develop the area further.

The Solwezi West seat fell vacant following the death of MMD’s Humphrey Mwanza.

Others contesting the seat are Teddy Kasonso on the UPND ticket and John Njombi for UNIP.

FRA increase Maize target to 800 000 metric tonnes

Re-bagged sacks of maize awaiting FRA officials to buy from farmersTHE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) projects that the maize it will buy this crop marketing season will increase from the initially planned 500,000 metric tonnes (mt) to 800,000 metric tonnes to ensure national food security.

This follows President Lungu’s announcement on Friday that Government would buy more maize from farmers than the initially targeted 500,000mt for strategic reserves.

The FRA will this week disburse over K250 million for paying farmers countrywide for the maize sold to the agency this season.
FRA executive director Chola Kafwabulula said in Chipata yesterday that the agency will buy 300,000 metric tonnes more this year than the previous years.

“We were supposed to buy 500,000 metric tonnes initially but now we have instructions to buy beyond that and our estimation is that we will be able to reach about 800,000 metric tonnes,” Mr Kafwabulula said.

He said FRA will continue buying maize to meet its new target, which has been further enhanced by an influx of farmers who are selling their produce to the agency.

Mr Kafwabulula said since the increase in the purchase price of maize from K70 to K75, more farmers are selling their grain to the FRA than to the private sector.

He added that the FRA’s objective is to ensure national food security and not to compete with the private sector. He said farmers are at liberty to sell their harvest to any other buyers.

“I think the cardinal issue we need to note is food security. Are we food secure as a country? And the simple answer is, yes we are,” he said.

And speaking in Petauke on Saturday, Mr Kafwabulula said the FRA is committed to ensuring that farmers are paid on time and has secured funds to be disbursed this week.

Mr Kafwabulula said farmers in Eastern Province are owed K22 million and that the FRA has so far paid out K15 million.

“Next week [this week] we are expecting to disburse about K250 million to K300 million to pay farmers countrywide. I would like to state that farmers are being paid on time countrywide that is the reason you have not heard them complain,” he said.

Mr Kafwabulula said FRA will maintain the two-week window in which to pay farmers who supply maize to the agency and that all logistics will be put in place to secure the maize.

He said FRA wants to ensure that all the grain purchased is properly secured to avoid wastage through pest infestation, hence the need to inspect the storage facilities.

Mr Kafwabulula said the FRA is buying grain from farmers in far-flung areas and it is important for the agency to not only pay on time but to also ensure that the grain is taken to storage facilities and properly secured.

“We are not allowing the bags to accumulate. The maize is being transported to our depots as quickly as possible. This is being done to avoid wastage through infestation. We can’t buy maize which is worth millions of Kwacha and allow it to go to waste because of improper storage,” he said.

Mr Kafwabulula said the grain has to be bought from farmers before the onset of the rains and that FRA is working with local businesses to transport the maize to its secure depots.

Mr Kafwabulula is in Eastern Province to inspect grain storage facilities and monitor maize buying by FRA.

Mighty Mufulira Wanderers maintained 5th place after rallying to beat hosts Lusaka Dynamos at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka while Nkana fell at the same venue against Zanaco.

In the lunchtime kickoff of the Sunset doubleheader that served a rare dish of two of Zambia’s most successful clubs sharing the same bill in Lusaka, Mighty beat Dynamos 3-1 in an all-promotion match-up.

PATRIOTIC Front(PF) deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri has urged Zambians to give the party a chance to develop the country and improve the livelihood of citizens.

Ms Phiri said the PF Government was working hard to ensure that economic development was sustained in all sectors as evidenced by the massive infrastructure development and service provision being carried out throughout the country.

She said during a rally at Changanamai grounds in Kitwe yesterday, that the PF Government was implementing various developmental programmes such as construction of roads, schools and hospitals which were aimed at improving the livelihood of citizens.

Ms Phiri said the challenges that the country was experiencing such as the power deficit and depreciation of the Kwacha should not be blamed on President Edgar Lungu because the problems were as a result of poor rainfall pattern experienced in the Southern region and the global economic challenges that had affected even better currencies such as China and South Africa.
She urged Copperbelt residents to reject politicians that privatized the mines and parastatal companies which she said had contributed to the high poverty levels among the community.

“Do not be misled by the opposition politicians that are using the negative global economic trends and the natural calamities that are causing the poor performance of the Zambian economy to accuse President Edgar Lungu of failing to run the economy.

“These are global problems being experienced even by better economies so we need to work together, develop the country and improve the livelihood of our people,” she said.

Ms Phiri urged PF members to remain united and embrace members that had left the party after so as to strengthen the PF in readiness for next years general elections.

She further urged the party officials to protect the Copperbelt province which was one of the PF stronghold and ensure that the opposition political parties do not penetrate the province.

The deputy secretary general further appealed to PF members aspiring for adoption in various positions in next years elections to allow those occupying the positions to finish their terms of office.

PF youth chairman Chishimba Kambwili said Zambians should not allow themselves to cheated by the opposition political parties that the problem of load-shedding was as a result of poor leadership on the party.

Mr Kambwili who is also Chief Government spokesperson said the PF had put in place adequate measures to ensure issues of load-shedding comes to an end next year.

“I want to assure that there will be no load-shedding next year, we have put in place enough measures to address the problem and we are working hard to ensure Zambians are not subjected to load-shedding,” he said.

Chimwemwe Member of Parliament(Mp) Mwenya Musenge said the Copperbelt province was ready for next year’s elections and assured of a landslide victory.

Mr Musenge who is also Copperbelt Provincial Minister said the province was ready to support President Lungu as the Presidential candidate for the party.

He appealed to PF members that had defected to opposition parties after the provincial elections due to misunderstandings to rejoin the party because there was no future in opposition political parties.

Copperbelt chairman Stephen Kainga said the PF was intact on the Copperbelt contrary to claims by some opposition political parties that they have taken over the province while Youth chairman Nathan Chanda said youths were eager to register as voters in large numbers so as to vote for the PF in next year’s general elections

Hundreds of people defected from opposition political parties to join the PF.

Among the defectors was MMD councilor for Chantente ward in Kitwe, Abinala Mumba who said he decided to defect because of the feasible developmental programmes being undertaken by the PF which were improving people’s lives.

The rally was also attended by Wusakile, Kwacha and Kamfinsa Mps, Richard Musukwa, Bonnie Mutale and Moses Chishimba respectively.

Guy Scott was responsible for the Fuel crisis early this year

47

Mr Amos Chanda
Mr Amos Chanda

The President’s Special Aide for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has maintained former vice president Guy Scott was behind the fuel crisis Zambia faced early this year.

Mr. Chanda says it is clear that at any given time, a country is supposed to have a minimum of 16 days of fuel stocks but that at the time that President Edgar Lungu assumed office in January this year, the country only had fuel supplies for one day.

He has told Qfm News by telephone that this means that if there were any incompetence, fraud or corruption behind the fuel shortage in the country at that time it must have taken place in the three months that Dr. Scott acted President following the death of President Michael Sata.

Mr. Chanda says having been the one in charge of the running affairs of the country Dr. Scott should answer the question as to whether these facts are in dispute or not.

He has wondered whether Dr. Scott can also dispute whether it is a fact or not that the current contract for supplying fuel in the country was signed when he was acting republican President.

Mr. Chanda says he personally does not see at what point the fuel shortage experienced early this year could have been the problem caused by President Lungu.

He states that President Lungu’s only involvement was to sort out the fuel crisis and which he did.

The President’s Special Aide for Press and Public Relations says for the fact that he deals with facts he is not bothered by Dr. Scott’s ranting about what he thinks of him.

He says this is because he knows very Dr. Scott’s complexes and what he thinks of indigenous Zambians and therefore his judgments do not trouble him.

And GOVERNMENT has advised former vice-president Guy Scott to refrain from attacking the Patriotic Front (PF) because as a founder member of the party, he has the obligation and responsibility to defend its performance, existence and growth.

Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Chishimba Kambwili said it was shocking that Dr Scott could attack the persona and character of special assistant to the President for press and public relations Amos Chanda for stating the facts that there was an attempt to sabotage President Edgar Lungu soon after his victory in the January presidential election.

Mr Kambwili said while he was gravely disappointed by Dr Scott’s remarks about the performance of Government under President Lungu, he had refrained himself from attacking the former acting president because he had a lot of respect for him.

Mr Kambwili said the PF was still holding Dr Scott in high esteem as the former vice-president of the ruling party and the country and that it was surprising that the former acting president had not come to terms with the reality that President Lungu was given the mandate to govern Zambians.

He told the Daily Nation that Government did not want to enter into political altercations with Dr Scott because the former vice-president had contributed to the governance of the country.

He said if Dr Scott was of the view that things were wrong and that President Lungu had failed, he had the duty and obligation to advise Government instead of launching unwarranted attacks against the leadership of President Lungu.

“I am extremely disappointed with the attitude Dr Scott has adopted against the PF which is his own political party. He is a founder and as Government, we hold Dr Scott in high esteem because he contributed a lot to the growth of the party. It is our expectation that Dr Scott should refrain from attacking his own party and Government but should instead cultivate a culture of advising us for the good of the larger Zambia. We are not going to attack him but let him know that we respect him for his contribution to the party and the country,” Mr Kambwili said.

Mr Kambwili said Dr Scott should be working towards helping the PF succeed in delivering its promises to the people.

He said the PF was undertaking a lot of developmental programmes across the country and that the economic challenges the country was going through should not be apportioned to President Lungu who had been in State House only for seven months.’

Kalaba scores as Mazembe match to Champions League semi’s

4

Zambia captain Rainford Kalaba scored one goal to help propel TP Mazembe to the semifinals of the 2015 CAF Champions League after a 5-0 home win over Maghreb Tetoun of Morocco in Lubumbashi on Saturday.

Kalaba put Mazembe 2-0 into the break with the second goal in the 32nd minute after Tanzania striker Mbwana Samatta opened scores in the 12th minute on his way to taking the ball home with strikes in the 53rd and 90th minutes.

Ivorian striker Roger Assale added Mazembe’s fourth in the 89th minute.

Kalaba came off in the 65th minute for Gladson Kwako of Ghana.

Nathan Sinkala did not make the lineup while Kabaso Chongo was on the bench.

Mazembe finished top of Group A on 11 points, two points ahead of Al Hilal of Sudan who drew 1-1 away to Smouha of Egypt on the same date.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s interest in the match extended to the match officials with Jan Sikazwe the referee in the game while Wisdom Chewe was the fourth official.

Chilumba fumes after Power is held by Konkola

3

Power Dynamos coach Tenant Chilumba is disappointed with the 1-1 home draw his side forced against Konkola Blades in Saturday’s FAZ Super Division encounter at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Power needed a 90th minute equaliser from defender Derrick Mwansa to cancel the goal scored by Konkola’s Happy Kaunda.

In a post match interview, Chilumba said Power were punished by poor finishing.

He observed that Power created many chances despite scoring only one goal.

“I am disappointed with the result.I thought we played well in the first half but we didn’t connect the chances and we were punished,” Chilumba told journalists at Arthur Davies Stadium.

“Coordination was there but we were just unlucky,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chilumba abandoned the post match interview after being queried on Power’s uninspiring form in the last two weeks in which they have drawn twice in a row.
He refused to comment on the two draws Power have posted in their last fixtures saying he needed to rest.
“Awe lekeni ntusheko (No, allow me to rest),” he responded before rushing to the dressing room.

Lungu is not to blame for power deficit and Kwacha depreciation, Kambwili tells UPND

Chishimba Kambwili
Chishimba Kambwili

MINISTER of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili has castigated United Party for National Development (UPND) and Rainbow Party leaders for misleading the nation that President Lungu is to blame for the depreciation of the Kwacha and the power deficit the country is experiencing.

Mr Kambwili, who is chief Government spokesperson, said at a rally in Kitwe yesterday that the depreciation of the Kwacha has been caused by global economic challenges that have affected even South African and Chinese currencies.

He said UPND should find other things to tell the Zambians which the Patriotic Front (PF) has not done rather than blaming the depreciation of the Kwacha and power deficit on President Lungu and the ruling party.

He said the load-shedding being experienced was purely because of the poor rainfall that was experienced last year. “President Lungu does not bring rains or control the dollar. People should not be cheated that President Lungu is to blame for the load-shedding and depreciation of the Kwacha. South Africa and China are also going through the same problem with their currencies,” said Mr Kambwili.

He said people like Rainbow Party leader Wynter Kabimba should not be taken seriously.

He also banned the wearing of berets and introduced PF-branded hats, saying some opposition political parties have been using berets to attack people to paint a picture that such acts were being committed by members of the PF.

PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri urged Zambians to continue rejecting opposition leaders who caused misery on Copperbelt residents through their role in the privatisation of mines.

Ms Phiri said the voting pattern in Southern Province should show citizens from other provinces to avoid voting on tribal lines.

She also cautioned new members against causing confusion in constituencies by fighting incumbent members of Parliament in their quest to be adopted ahead of the 2016 elections.

She also urged the Copperbelt PF leadership to remain focused.

Deputy Minister of Mines, Energy and Water Development Richard Musukwa said President Lungu will not allow the closure of mines because of the drastic fall of copper prices on the international market.

Mr Musukwa said PF is a party for the poor Zambians and that it will continue implementing policies aimed at bettering their social and economic welfare through the provision of farming inputs on time, construction of health, education and road infrastructure. PF chairman Stephen Kainga said the PF on the Copperbelt was still strong.

President Edgar Lungu directs FRA to export Maize and bring in FOREX

A stack of over 14, 000 bags of maize purchased by FRA at Chipoka satellite depot since the marketing season exercise commenced.
President Edgar Lungu has directed the FRA and other relevant authorities to export the maize and bring into the country the much needed foreign exchange.

President Lungu says government will buy all the maize from farmers and export it because most countries in the region have no food.

And the President said it is sad that the opposition are claiming that they will open up more mine companies if voted into power.

President LUNGU was speaking at a rally in Luwingu Boma to drum up support for PF candidate in the Lubansenshi by election George Mwamba.

He said that government is looking at measures to address the challenges facing the economy.

Meanwhile President Lungu says his government has taken steps to improve the agriculture sector.

He says one of the measures that his government has taken is to rehabilitate and construct roads so that agriculture areas have easy access to the market.

President Lungu who was speaking when he addressed a public rally at Muchilaka Primary school to drum up support for PF candidate GEORGE MWAMBA in the September 24th Lubansenshi parliamentary by election said it is for this reason that farming inputs have already been delivered this year.

And President Lungu held two public rallies to drum up support for the PF candidate in the September 24th parliamentary by-elections.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has recognized Senior Chief Shimumbi of Luwingu.

The President says he values the role traditional leader’s play in national development.

The President was speaking in Luwingu yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on the traditional leader.

President Lungu urged the chief to embrace all Zambians despite their political affiliations.

He said he is happy with the campaigns in Lubansenshi and called on the chief to help maintain the peace in the area.

Meanwhile the President said he is not happy with the state of Senior Chief Shimumbi’s house and he has pledged that his administration will immediately start building a house for the chief.

And Senior Chief Shimumbi said he is happy with the President’s move to recognize him.

The Chief through his representative noted that the move by President LUNGU is an indication that Government is concerned with the welfare of the People.

He said he received his recognition letter on 8th September delivered to him by Northern Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe.

And President Lungu has instructed PF structures in Northern Province to be united and focused if the party is to grow stronger ahead of next year’s general elections.

President Lungu says he is saddened to learn that the party structures have not been coordinating well and urged the leadership to ensure that harmony is restored.

Speaking before departure to Lubansenshi at Kasama Airport this morning, Mr. Lungu, who is also PF president, said there is need for the party to remain solid in view of pending parliamentary by-election in Kasama Central Constituency.

He advised PF structures in the province to immediately come up with programmes that will help to consolidate the ruling party.

The president counseled the electorate in Kasama against electing selfish leaders whose drive is centered on boasting about their wealth once the date for the impending by-election is set.

President Lungu urged people to elect a humble and selfless leader once the date for the impending

The head of state noted that money should not be used as a tool to woo electorates but one’s development agenda.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has reiterated his call for peaceful campaigns in the September 24 Lubansenshi and Solwezi West parliamentary by-elections.

Fred M’membe is bitter after failing to help Kabimba ascend to power-Lungu

PRESIDENT Lungu says his involvement in the Angolan oil deal was meant to encourage private sector participation, unlike what has been suggested by The Post Newspapers.

The President, who was speaking on arrival in Solwezi to scores of people who welcomed him, said accusations of corruption in the Angola oil deal were unfair, especially that he has not interfered with the Anti-Corruption Commission since he was voted into office.

The President also lashed out at Post Newspapers Editor-in-Chief Fred M’membe who he said was a bitter man because he failed to help his friend Rainbow Party leader Wynter Kabimba to ascend to power after the death of President Michael Sata.

The President advised Mr M’membe to pay his workers on time adding that the Post Newspaper owner has begun a battle with him through his Newspaper by publishing false information.

The Head of State said Mr M’membe is lying to the Zambian people that he helped the Patriotic Front (PF) to form government when he has been against the ruling party for a long time as evidenced by his evil schemes to hijack the party.

Mr Lungu said it is the poor people of Zambia who sacrificed for the party to usher the PF into government and this is the reason late President Sata did not allow PF to be hijacked by people with money to avoid being enslaved.

“Mr M’membe is a bitter man because he failed to help his friend Wynter Kabimba to ascend to power and God is above all this manipulation and he allowed me to become President,” Mr Lungu said.

President Lungu, however, said he has no personal grudge against Mr M’membe and his employees but advised the newspaper to be factual in its reporting as it exercises its right to freedom of speech.

He has since assured Mr M’membe that government wants to see the newspaper continue with its production but advised him to pay his workers on time and not waste resources on funding political activities of the Rainbow party.

Mr Lungu said he has been quiet for a long time but he has decided to respond to Mr M’membe to clear the air.

He has since advised Mr M’membe to take him on if he thinks he is engaging in criminal activities.

“So because I have not allowed them latitude of manipulating the ACC, the police and other government agencies, I have become their enemy,” he said.

And Mr Lungu has advised Zambians not to give power to the opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his vice president Geoffrey Mwamba because the two want to use the Zambians to amass wealth.

President Lungu, however, said people have a democratic right to elect a leader of their choice but that Zambians have slowly begun to appreciate him since he became President.

He also assured Zambians that he will work hard to unite the country through the One Zambia One Nation motto. President Lungu also said he still loves the people of North-Western Province even if they do not vote for the PF candidate Martin Mbaya in the forthcoming Solwezi West Parliamentary by election. He also advised people not to listen to false stories from his critics that the current power deficit the country is facing due to low water levels at Kariba North bank has been caused by the PF because no one can fight with nature.

On the mining sector, President Lungu said the mines are facing challenges because of the low copper prices prevailing on the market.

President Lungu urged Zambians to work together and find solutions to the problems the country is facing.

While at the airport, President Lungu was joined by former President Rupiah Banda, who thanked the people of North-Western Province for the support rendered to President Lungu during the January 2015 presidential elections.

Mr Banda also advised Zambians to give President Lungu the respect he deserves saying no country can live in peace if people continue to attack a democratically elected President.

President Lungu said he would not abandon the former head of State despite accusations from the Post newspaper that Mr Banda was corrupt when he has been cleared by the courts of law.

Earlier, North-Western Province PF chairman Emmanuel Chihili said it is no longer a secret that the political landscape in the province is changing towards the ruling party since President Lungu assumed office.

17 people die on the spot in a Mini bus accident in Lusaka

9

SEVENTEEN people have died on the spot while two others are nursing injuries in an accident that happened at the junction of Mumbwa and Mwembeshi roads in Lusaka’s light industrial area.

Police spokesperson Charity Munganga said in an interview that the accident occurred yesterday in the morning around 7:50 hours when the driver of a truck registration number AAH 7373 tried to cut in front of a Toyota Hiace minibus registration number ALH 5968.

The dead include 13 males, three females and a baby.

Mrs Munganga said the 17 were part of the 19 passengers on the Lusaka-bound Toyota Hiace minibus. She said the 17 who died include the driver of the minibus, conductor and a baby.

She said the driver of the truck is on the run and the police have launched a manhunt for him.

“The minibus had 19 people on board, 17 of whom died on the spot. The two surviving victims have been admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH). So far, none of the victims have been identified. The driver of the truck was alone,” she said.

However, an eye-witness who was at the scene when the accident happened told the Sunday Mail that the driver of the Toyota minibus was the one who caused the fatal accident.

“The minibus driver was behind a taxi driver who had signalled and given way to the truck driver. The minibus driver in full speed probably without realising why the taxi driver had stopped left his lane in pursuit of a passenger at a junction.

Unfortunately the truck was already in motion and went and hit into the bus. The driver of the truck and the people he was with all jumped out and ran. But they were all injured as they were bleeding,” said the eye-witness.

He said a mob managed to apprehend the injured passengers from the truck who were later taken to the hospital.

However, UTH spokesperson Mwenya Mulenga said seven victims from the accident are admitted to the medical facility.

Mr Mulenga confirmed in an interview that two of the seven victims are in a critical condition.

“We received seven victims from the Mumbwa-Mwembeshi junction road accident; three males and four females. Two are in critical condition. The seven were brought around 09:30 hours in the morning,” he said.

Today’s Message: The Overflow of Your Heart

12

bible

Today’s Scripture

“…For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
(Matthew 12:34, NKJV)

The Overflow of Your Heart

Have you said something recently that you wish you hadn’t? The Bible says that your words reveal what’s going on inside of you. If you go around speaking negative words of defeat, putting others down and complaining all the time, it’s a sign that you need to refocus your heart and mind. It’s a sign that your “overflow” is polluted.

Our bodies work a lot like a computer. What you put on the hard drive of your heart will show up on the monitor of your mouth.

The good news is that you can reprogram your mind the same way you can reprogram a computer. The Bible says that our minds are renewed—or reprogrammed—by the Word of God. The more you read and study His Word, the more it will transform you from the inside out.

Start today by asking the Lord to reveal anything in your heart that needs changing. Make Him first place in your life. Fill your heart with the good treasure of God’s Word so that blessings come out of your mouth. Let the overflow of your heart be filled with faith and expectancy, and you’ll see God’s hand of blessing in every area of your life.

A Prayer for Today

“Father in heaven, I humbly come before You and ask that You cleanse my heart and mind of anything that isn’t pleasing to You. Fill me with Your faith, peace, joy and love so that I can overflow with Your goodness today in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

People of Chawama deserve an apology

12 September 2015

It makes sad reading and I hope Edgar Lungu was misquoted by the media that our peaceful party the UPND has hired thugs from Chawama, his former constituency, to go and cause violence in Lubansenshi and Solwezi constituency bye elections.

We believe it is a huge insult and very demeaning for Lungu to view his own people in Chawama as a mere bunch of thugs that can just be rented for political violence.

Lungu owes everything he has today at the top as president to the support he got from the same people of Chawama, whom he nows views as mere thugs.

We believe they kept him during the trying moments and elected him as Member of Parliament, gave him a massive presidential vote and recently again gave him an MP.

We believe Lungu owes the people of Chawama an apology, because if indeed they are thugs as he labelled them, he contributed to their poverty that has brewed thuggery in them.

If Lungu can view the people of Chawama who have been giving him all such support with such contempt and insults, we wonder how he views the rest of us.

At a time Lungu is supposed to be acknowledging and addressing the economic challenges the people of Chawama are facing, he is just seeing thuggery in their suffering and that is how today he is thanking them.

We all know who has been causing violence in bye elections, including the top leadership of PF such as Davies Chama who shot people in Mulobezi.

Government is looking at measures to address the challenges facing the economy-Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says government is looking at measures to address the challenges facing the economy.

President Lungu says the opposition has been spreading lies that government is not interested in the economy.

The president says as Head of State, he is aware of the state of the nation.

President Lungu says the price of copper on the international market has gone down, leading to mining companies considering closing down and laying off their workers.

He said the situation is not only happening in Zambia but in other countries in the region such as Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC- that also depend on copper.

President Lungu has explained that it is for this reason that he has directed the FRA and other relevant authorities to export the maize and bring into the country the much needed foreign exchange.

He said government will buy all the maize from farmers and export it because most countries in the region have no food.

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has countered ruling PF Secretary General Davies Chama’s questioning his ability to transform Zambia if voted in as Head of State, saying that Mr. Chama should be ignored because he suspects that he is allegedly a misnomer to the Zambian society.

Mr. Chama had recently challenged Mr. Hichilema to tell the nation how exactly he will transform the country if he does not have anything to show for even in his home village.

Mr. Hichilema explained is why he has remained quiet and has not spoken out at the many times that Mr. Chama has been reported to have insulted and ridiculed the people of Zambia.

He has told Qfm News by telephone that if Mr. Chama wants to know whether or not he has capabilities to lead Zambia he should know that he is already a responsible senior headman in his home Village were he has even helped build a mini hospital besides the 20 to 25, on overage, children who are not his, but whom he has been supporting in schools from primary to college education in the last 23 years each year.

Mr. Hichilema has particularly challenged the PF Chief Executive Officer to go to Hakainde village in Bweengwa, about 40 kilometers from Monze West, and see the work that the UPND is doing there for the villagers.

The UPND president stated that Mr. Chama must also know that there are some people that are superior to him and that he is inferior.

He has since maintained that UPND will transform Zambia because it has a vision and management skills to do so.

When contacted for a comment Mr. Chama could not be reached on telephone by broadcast time.

Ruling PF Mandevu constituency chairperson Joseph Tamba has however expressed disappointment that a leader that is vying for the highest office in the land such as Mr. Hichilema can insult the PF Secretary General by suggesting that he is a lunatic whose brain is full of water.

Mr. Tamba told Qfm News in a separate interview that Mr. Hichilema has clearly demonstrated that he is not ready to become Zambia’s next President.

He is of the view that if someone wants to become President of Country he must respect other leaders in the manner that he would equally want to be respected.

Mr. Tamba stated that it is therefore wrong for Mr. Hichilema to have insulted Mr. Chama especially that he only reminded him to assess himself against what he has done in his home village to what he can do if ever he becomes republican President.
