Chanda castigates Post Newspaper for report on President Lungu’s history of collapsing

The Patriotic Front Media and publicity committee has castigated the Post Newspaper for it’s headlines and editorial which it has described as disrespectful to the office of the president.

Today’s Post editorial said what the nation is not being told is that President Lungu has a history of collapsing. The newspaper said last year on April 23, the day Mr.Lungu was appointed defence minister, he was almost in a similar situation at State House. Mr.Lungu could not attend the swearing-in ceremony after noticing that his sugar level was low. Edgar Lungu, who had earlier walked out of the auditorium twice, told Post reporter Roy Habaalu that his sugar level was low.

After noticing that Edgar Lungu’s walking out of the auditorium was not coordinated, Wynter Kabimba shouted: “Imwe mugwileni uyo Edgar! Roy, mugwileni Edgar azagwa (Hey, hold him, he will fall down).” Fearing that Edgar was about to fall, Roy held him by his hand and took him outside and sat him down in the lobby. “…yah, my sugar level is very low. I have the sweets, don’t worry, I will be fine,” Edgar told Mwansa Kapeya and Roy as security officers positioned themselves to help. Roy loosened Edgar’s shoelaces to allow blood to flow more easily the Post Editorial read.

The Editorial went on to say there is no need to try and deny the fact that Edgar Lungu has a drinking problem. And this is the source of these other challenges he is facing. It needs to be addressed. If Edgar does not address the alcohol problem, it will be very difficult for him to manage his low sugar levels. The Post newspaper said there is no need for those in State House to try and cheat themselves that people don’t know that Edgar has a drinking problem. Edgar Lungu did not emerge from Mars to come and rule us. He came from among us to be our President. So many people know him and his drinking problem. Let him deal with this problem. It is not a new problem; it is an old problem. It is now becoming a challenge because Edgar is in the public spotlight.

In a media statement released to the media and speaking on behalf of the PF media and publicity committee,Mr.Sunday Chanda said it is shockingly that the Post Newspaper has all of a sudden turned into “medical experts,”.Mr Chanda said the Post Newspaper was even questioning findings and recommendations of the very competent medical team managing the President at Maina Soko Military hospital led by Dr Kasonde and Dr Kishore. Mr.Chanda said Zambia Medical Association may also wish to take interest in this matter where a mere newspaper ignorant in medical matters goes on to speculate and publish with impunity alleged medical challenges of the President. MISA may also need to take interest in the journalism ethics and professionalism as they relate to this newspaper. Mr Chanda said Zambians appreciate that for the first time in the nation’s history, State House has been very transparent on the President’s health challenge and even published findings and recommendations of the medical experts – a fact acknowledged even by the Post newspaper itself.Mr.Chanda said the Post Newspaper is wishing the President ill will and mocking and exaggerating about his health challenge

Demoted Chililabombwe club Konkola Mine Police are plotting a quick return to the FAZ Super League.

Mine Police will this season compete in Division One North after their three-year Super League stint ended when they were demoted last season.

Club chairman Gideon Mwenya said Mine Police does not deserve to play in the second tier of Zambian football.

“I think we do not belong to Division One and we are planning to come back to the Super League quickly,” Mwenya said.

“After demotion we have gone back to the drawing board. We want positive results,” he said.

“We commit ourselves to supporting Nkana peacefully. The past perceptive that Nkana is violent has changed,” Mensah said.

“In the past years we have been probably the best performing team on the pitch and among supporters,” he said.

Mensah was speaking in Kitwe on Sunday when Nkana supporters held a meeting with the club executive committee.

A critical fuel shortage has hit Choma District

A critical shortage of fuel has hit Choma District in Southern Province for the past three days. There were long queues of motorists waiting for their turn to buy fuel at Puma filling station which is the only filling station with the commodity in the entire district.

A concerned motorist in Choma, Collins Chilala said he had been on the queue since 05 hours this morning but still failed to buy the commodity by about 12 hours.

“The town has had no fuel since Sunday, and now only one filling station of the five in town has fuel which has caused panic among the motorists”, he said

Mr Chilala who described the situation as serious said he had resorted to buying ‘changanya ( raw fuel ) ‘ from the call boys at a higher price.

He has however appealed to Government to address the shortage of fuel in the provincial capital as day to day operations of the people have been greatly affected.

And Choma Garage Puma filling Station supervisor Doubt Mukonka said the filling station ran out of petrol on Sunday and had no hope of receiving fuel any time soon.

He said the filling station has in the past three days been trying to make efforts to collect petrol from Lusaka but failed as the source is equally in short supply.

“We have no hope of receiving fuel anytime soon because the shortage is not just here but even in Lusaka where we get the fuel,” he said.

Motorists are happy with the reduced price of fuel but want the Government to ensure constant supply of fuel in Choma as the shortage of fuel is becoming a trend.

Lusaka Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta is upset that Avic International, the contractor working on the L400 road project in Lusaka has abandoned the project.

Mr Mwaliteta has since challenged Avic International to sub-contract local contractors if it has failed to complete the works. In an interview, Mr. Mwaliteta said Government is concerned with the slow pace at which works are progressing on the L400 so far.

‘AVIC, is letting us down and as government we are running of of patience. That road cannot take us this long. We need to look into that contract,’ Mr Mwaliteta said.

He added, ‘If AVIC has no capacity, let him sub contract Zambian contractors to help speed up the works. I think on L400, they have only done less than 100 KM from the time it was launched and this is two years down the line.’

Mr Mwaliteta said, ‘Not much progress is being seen. If you go Burma and Chilimbulu road, it is the same, the way they left it. For me as Lusaka Province Minister, am looking into that because we don’t have time. We need to raise the tempo of infrastructure development.’

The PF Government launched the L 400 road project on 16th August 2013 which was expected to see 400 kilometres of urban roads worked on in various townships and compounds at a cost of US$348.8 million.

The L400 project includes improvement of various roads in various residential, light industrial and industrial areas of Lusaka City such as Kabanana, Chalala, Kamwala South, Chilenje South, Avondale, Kabwata Site and Service, Chazanga, Kamanga, Chinika Area, Bauleni, Northmead, Matero, Chawama, Lilanda, Chilulu, Ngombe, Kaunda Square, Kalingalinga and Mtendere among others.

Is State House haunted??

105

ghost

The events of the last few days have left many questions in the minds of Zambians. One of which is – is State house haunted?.

After burying the late president Michael Sata in October last year, the late president Frederick Chiluba in June 2011 and late president Levy Mwanawasa in August 2008, Zambians were understandably concerned when President Lungu unceremoniously collapsed during the Woman’s day celebrations in Lusaka on Sunday, March 8th.A collective sigh of relief was breathed when pictures of a president Lungu smiling in his hospital room at Maina Soko hospital were released.

Since Zambia has lost 3 presidents in a short space of time, probably breaking any world records. There is evidently something going on that needs to be addressed.

My guess is, in order to exorcise the ghost of State House,Zambia needs to invest in it’s health care systems. The Zambian money that has for the past 20 years helped enrich the South African Medical system could have improved the Zambian health care system 100 times over if it was rather invested here.Zambian public health systems also need to be revamped because Zambia as a nation does not seem to be very healthy.Until then the Ghost of State House will continue haunting us for years to come.

Siasia plots for Zambia Under-23

Nigeria Under-23 Samson Siasia says he knows very little about opponents Zambia.

Zambia Under-23 will face Nigeria on March 21 in a 2015 All-Africa Games final round , first leg qualifier in Abuja.

Nigeria sailed through to the last round after a 2-0 home win in a first round, final leg win over Gabon last saturday to advance 6-1 on aggregate.

“I can’t say I know much about the Zambia U-23 team but we will get their videos and prepare for them because if you don’t know them, it will be a problem to play against them. We will get their clips and study them,” Siasia told Nigerian daily The Punch.

Zambia advanced to the first round after a walkover win against Madagascar who withdrew from the qualifiers.

Fighton Simukonda’s side will host Nigeria in the final leg decider on April 11.

FDD prays for President Edgar Lungu

4

As The Forum for Democracy and Development our thoughts and prayers are with His Excellency President Edgar Lungu and the first family during this hour of illness.

We pray for the healing hand of God to touch the President and restore his health again. We also would like to urge all Zambians irrespective of their political affiliation to be on their knees and pray for the President’s quick recovery.

We need him up and running for he is the head of state and his absence from duty has negative repercussions to our country’s progress.

We also would like to thank State House for all the updates on the President’s condition. Such levels of openness are important as they assure the nation and removes.

May God be with The President and his family. May God bless Zambia.

Chilombo upbeat despite Zambia U20 defeat

10

Hector Chilombo insists his Zambia Under-20 team are still in the race despite coming off second best to Mali on Monday at M’Bour.

Mali outshined Zambia to win 1-00 in the two sides opening Group B match at the 2015 African Youth Championships in Senegal on Monday night.

A superb 74th minute free kick by Alassane Diallo sent Zambia to a first day defeat at the tournament.

“We lost but we are not out. I’m happy for my boys, because they have shown that they can improve,” Chilombo said.

“We will remain focus and work harder in the next game. We have to recover and win our next game against Ghana. The tournament is on and we will fight on.”

However, Ghana lead Group B after shocking ten-man South Africa 2-0 in the early kick off at the same venue.

Zambia are third behind Mali on zero points ahead of their penultimate Group B match on March 12 against Ghana.

FIFA Presidency too early for Figo – Kalusha

18

FAZ president and soccer icon Kalusha Bwalya says it is too early forPortugal legend Luis Figo to contest for the presidency of FIFA.

Figo, 42, a former world player of the year, and two others are challenging incumbent FIFA president Sepp Blatter on 29th May.
Kalusha has openly backed Blatter.

“I’d have loved to see Figo go into the Portuguese football association, learn the ropes then come out,” Kalusha told BBC.

“It’s the logical way but he (Figo) has decided to go for the big position. It’s going to be very difficult in my opinion,” he said.

It’s irresponsible for the media to exaggerate President Lungu’s illness-MISA

Media institute of Southern Africa (MISA) says it is irresponsible for the media to exaggerate President Edgar Lungu’s illness.

MISA Zambia chairperson Hellen Mwale says the levels of unprofessionalism being exhibited in some section of the media with regards President Lungu’s health is worrying as it has the potential to mislead the nation.

Ms. Mwale has wondered why some sections of the media have been particularly swift at reporting that the President collapsed during the commemoration of the international women’s day at heroes stadium.

She says her organization is of the view it is important for the media to be factual and accurate in their reporting as they are the first to give Zambians first hand information
