Zambia has assured the International community that it will continue to collaborate with other commonwealth countries towards promoting peace around the world.

Vice President Inonge Wina made the assurance in London last evening when she addressed Zambians living in the diaspora at the residence of the Zambian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Muyeba Chikonde.

Mrs. Wina said Zambia, just like other former British colonies, believes in values and principles of commonwealth which are anchored on good governance, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law.

She stated that President Edgar Lungu and his administration will not depart from the Commonwealth values because the country has contributed massively to existence of the organization.

“We consider our coming to London to participate in the Commonwealth discussions as an important event because Zambia is one of those countries that still upholds the values that we share in the commonwealth,” Mrs. Wina said.

The Vice President further advised diplomats serving in foreign missions to always to be proud of Zambia’s governance record as it is premised on the rule of law and respect of human rights among others.

Mrs. Wina however expressed disappointment with some Zambians who were in habit of spreading falsehood about their country to the outside world.

She observed that Zambia has a good standing on the international scene and no amount of un-patriotism by some disgruntled citizens will tarnish the image of the country.

Mrs. Wina said the fact that Zambia hosted the last Commonwealth summit in 1979 shows the level of confidence that the Patriotic Front government has in the membership of the country to the Commonwealth.

“It is one of those historical institutions that has been kept by the various countries that were former British colonies. And now even non-British colonies have joined Commonwealth. This means that this is an important institution,” she said.

The Vice President further said Zambia stands to gain more through its participation in the on-going commonwealth summit in London.

“Some people may consider it to be controversial to belong to. But Zambia considers it as a building block towards peace building, security on our (African) continent and globally,” Mrs. Wina said.

Vice President Inonge Wina is in London representing President Edgar Lungu at this year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting being hosted by the United Kingdom.

The commonwealth summit runs from April 16 to April 20, 2018 and is being held under the theme, ‘Towards a Common Future’.

Ms Siame cited online registration for starting a business, tax registration, and social security, national electronic single window for trade and e-commerce for trading across borders.

The Permanent Secretary noted that Zambia’s efforts of creating a conducive business environment has been recognized internationally following her ranking as the 9th best African Country in doing business.

She added that at the global level Zambia has been ranked 85 out of 190 economies on business reforms to facilitate access to capital for entrepreneurs’ to expand businesses.

She stated that government is willing to do more by pursuing and implementing business reforms in order to meet the expectations of investors.

Ms Siame praised the Swedish Embassy in Zambia for working tirelessly to enhance business relations and economic ties between Zambia and Sweden.

The SSACC drew participation from Swedish companies, ZACCI, Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and local captains of industry from various economic sectors in the country.

LCC Returns Merchandise to Kamwala Traders, the 18 Traders to be compensated

The Lusaka City Council says it returned merchandise found in 11 demolished illegal makeshift shops in Kamwala to owners (traders) on Monday.

Council Acting Public Relations Manager George Sichimba said contrary to assertions that the merchandise was looted by Council and State police during the demolition exercise, the merchandise was taken to Civic Center for safe keeping.

Mr Sichimba said during operations of such nature, state police is involved to make sure that the merchandise found in targeted premises is not looted.

“Among the merchandise found in demolished shops were footwear, Salaula, mobile phones and accessories and groceries. Others were artificial hair products, hand bags, compact discs (CDs) and a computer monitor,” Mr Sichamba said.

He said affected traders were invited to Civic Center to identify their merchandise and have them back.

“LCC wishes to advise traders to follow the laid down procedure to acquire trading space/shops to avoid inconveniences like what happened in Kamwala. The policy of the Council now is that all illegal structures must be brought down in the local authority’s quest to maintain sanity in the city,” he said.

Mr Sichimba said residents should not fall prey to people allocating plots or trading space without the authority of council as they may end up losing their resources when structures are demolished.

“LCC does not take pleasure in demolishing structures but illegality must not left unchecked as it has the potential of retarding the city’s development and a receipe for outbreaks of diseases such Cholera,” he said.

Meanwhile, he Lusaka City Council (LCC) has revealed that it will compensate the 18 traders whose shops were recently demolished at Luburma market in Kamwala.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Lusaka Deputy Mayor Chilando Chitangala said that the council is currently having discussions with the traders on how best they can be compensated.

Ms. Chitangala explained that the authority will continue engaging the traders on when and how they will be compensated for their loss.

This was after Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Mwila summoned the deputy mayor and demanded that the authority compensates all the affected traders whose goods were destroyed.

LCC last Sunday demolished about 18 structures that were erected within kamwala market.

New Botswana President Masisi to grace 2018 Zambia Agricultural show

13

Newly sworn in President of Botswana Mr. Mokgweetsi Masisi will this year officiate at the 92nd Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show in August.

President Masisi says the occasion will be an opportunity to accelerate growth for local businesses in Zambia and Botswana.

The Head of State said he had accepted the invitation to officiate at the agriculture show extended to him by President Edgar Lungu as it would serve to deepen the existing bilateral relations in trade and investment between the two countries.

President Masisi said this in an interview with the Botswana Press Agency (BOPA) on arrival from Zambia where he had gone to pay a courtesy call on President Lungu.

He said the visit to Zambia was aimed at introducing himself and reassuring his counterpart that he will carry on from where his predecessor left and continue to cultivate and nurture the good bilateral relations between Zambia and Botswana.

And Charge D’ Affaires at the Zambia High Commission in Botswana, Goodwell Lungu says President Masisi’s second visit to Zambia will provide a platform to further strengthen and grow the economic interests of the two nations.

Mr. Lungu said trade relations between the two nations have continued to register positive growth and the visit by President Masisi to grace the Agricultural show will further cement ties between the two neighbours.

He further said the bilateral construction of the mega Kazungula Bridge Project will enhance trade and investment between the two countries.

President Masisi met President Lungu on Thursday last week and the two leaders discussed bilateral and regional issues.

Zambia and Botswana will this year also mark 50 years of formal Diplomatic Relations having formally established bilateral ties and cooperation in 1968.

This is according to a statement issued by First Secretary- Press and Public Relations at the Zambia High Commission in Gaborone.

Families relocated to make way for construction of a dam

This year marks the first rainy season that Margaret Kalimina will not have to worry about a leaky roof in her thatched hut.

And soon, the use of intensive means of watering crops and waiting for the rains will be a thing of the past for her and many other households in the villages of Hankwa, Malama, Toba and Kalima in Mwomboshi area of Chisamba District.

Kalimina is one of several households relocated by the government, away from the Mwomboshi River to pave way for the construction of a dam and setting up of irrigation schemes.

Supported through the World Bank-funded Irrigation Development and Support Project, this will help small scale farmers increase yields per hectare, and enable year-round crop production.

“We will be given a hectare of irrigated land per household and this will enable us to engage into farming throughout the year without worrying about food shortages,” said Kalimina, who now lives in a three-room home with her mother, two sisters and her daughter in Kalima Village.

The dam is part of an overall irrigation project in the country, which includes two additional irrigation schemes; the Lusitu in the Southern Province, and the Musakashi in the Copperbelt Province. With a wall 1,700 meters long and 23 meters high, the Mwomboshi Dam is expected to bring more than 10,000 hectares of land under irrigation when it is at full capacity, making it the largest in the country’s agriculture sector.

“The people of Mwomboshi will benefit immeasurably from this project as they will not only be able to irrigate their crops and have pasture throughout the year, but will also have access to water for their livestock and fisheries,” said Ina Marlene-Ruthenberg, World Bank country manager for Zambia.

For much of their lives, the people of this area have relied on the Mwomboshi river as a daily source of water for washing, cooking, drinking, as well as small-scale fishing.

Maize farming is the chief source of income in Mwomboshi, where more than 90% of the people who live there are farmers.

Kalimina’s new house stands nearby one of the newly-installed hand pumps that she is sharing with three other households for all their domestics uses.

“The government is also encouraging us to reduce on maize-oriented agriculture and try new food crops such as wheat, butternut and sweet corn,” Kalimina said.”

The project irrigation scheme has been divided into four tiers. The first one will be allocated to small scale farmers, such as Kalimina. The second tier will be specifically for co-operatives, which includes benefits such as access to government-subsidized farming inputs. The third and fourth tiers will be exclusive to commercial and large-scale farming.

When the project becomes operational, 338 households will have been relocated.

Mr. Mwakalombe says Ndola needs a five star hotel to be constructed near the new airport adding that the new airport will attract an influx of business officials once operational. He added that agriculture is a sector which government has given priority saying the Copperbelt has an advantage of good rains and fertile soils.

The Minister said as the province is in the diversification process, Copperbelt still has room for investment in the mining sector especially in other unexploited minerals like emeralds. The light manufacturing industry, Mr. Mwakalombe said, should be revived in the province and help to contribute to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country as well as create employment opportunities for the people.

He added that a stable political ground in the country has also an advantage that foreign investors must appreciate noting that their investment will be safe.

President Edgar Lungu stole someone’s identity, his real name is Jonathan Mutaware

231
People’s Party leader Mike Mulongoti
People’s Party leader Mike Mulongoti

Two opposition leaders have made an astonishing claim that President Edgar Lungu is not the person he says he is and that he stole someone’s identity.

The two opposition figures have since alleged that President Edgar Lungu is infact Jonathan Mutaware, a Malawian.

In a jaw dropping interview on Prime TV’s Oxgen of Democracy programme on Monday night, People’s Party President Mike Mulongoti and New Labour Party President Fresher Siwale challenged President Lungu to produce his National Registration Card as a way of proving his true identity.

Mr Mulongoti said as a patriotic citizen, it is his responsibility to protect the constitution hence the move he took to write to the Public Protector of Zambia asking the institution to investigate President Lungu’s true identity.

He said since he wrote to the Public Protector on March 13th 2018 giving it two weeks to respond to his letter, the institution has not yet responded.

Mr Mulongoti observed that there were too many inconsistencies in President Lungu’s life history that prompted him to demand that the Public Protector investigates his true identity.

He said in his authorized autobiography, Against All Odds, President Lungu claims to have been born in a then whites only Ndola Central Hospital in 1956 but that on a Prime TV programme, State House Spokesman Amos Chanda claimed that President Lungu was infact born in Kitwe.

Mr Mulongoti said there is also no record of his childhood or primary school education or any mention of his immediate family members.

He said curiously, President Lungu has never attended a funeral or a wedding of any family member since moving to State House, which he said is bizarre in an African set up.

“I started getting curious about the conduct of the man in State House after he unleashed vicious dogs on us who were attending Mr Hichilema’s court cases when he was charging with treason. This country saw of the most vicious dogs at Court buildings and heavily armed police officers. I begun to question myself because naturally Zambians are forgiving people, we might quarrel a lot but we don’t wish anyone dead. So that conduct prompted me to start asking questions that maybe this man could not be one us,” Mr Mulongoti said.

He added, ” I am doing this in good faith. I know some people are calling me a mad man but surely, can a mad man launch an inquiry into the President’s identify? I don’t think so. We are simply asking the President a question, Who are you? This is a question that everyone should answer easily. Our Immigration officers at the boarder points ask this question everyday when they ask for the Passport. I don’t expect PF officials or those at State House to answer for him because those only met at work, they don’t know him well.”

The People’s Party leader said he is ready to apologize and face consequences if a public inquiry by the Public Protector proves that President Lungu is indeed a Zambian.

Mr Mulongoti added that the Chimwemwe House No. 4001 which President Lungu claims to have grown up from has toilets outside while the House No.4001 appearing in his autobiography shows a House with toilets inside.

“When we went to interview the current landlords at this House, we found that the morning we arrived, they were evicted the previous night after the House was bought off by unknown people, that raises suspicions.”

“We went to Mukuba Secondary School because the current President has been donating things to the school claiming he was a pupil there. You see at every institution, there are those that have stayed there longer and they have a way of remembering things, it could be messengers, cleaners or guards. We met some people who confirmed that yes there was a pupil by the name of Edgar Chagwa Lungu but he was dark and not light.”

And Mr Siwale has observed that the traditional leaders from Eastern Province who have been paraded claiming that President Lungu is their Son have mentioned that he was born from Eneless Zulu while in his autobiography, it is claimed that President Lungu’s mother was Eliza Tasila Jere.

Mr Siwale added that he has evidence to prove that the current Head of State stole the identity of Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu who was born in Kitwe at House No. 4001, Chimwemwe, the father to Tasila Lungu.

“My research into this identity issue because when President Lungu started calling for a Grade 12 certificate for all parliamentary candidates in the 2016 general elections and it reminded me of the time when late Dr Chiluba changed the constitution and inserted the parentage clause to bar Dr Kaunda from standing. As a Teacher who has studied psychology, this triggered my interest.”

He added, ” I later found that the man in State House is not who says he is. The Edgar Lungu in State House was born Jonathan Mutaware from Malawian parents who came to Zambia to work in the mines. He attended Kaloko Primary School and later Masala Secondary School and he failed Form 3 and hence his insistence on the Grade 12 certificate issue.”

“The man in State House has stolen an identity belonging to a man called Edgar Chagwa Lungu, the father to Tasila, the late Edgar Chagwa Lungu went to Ishuko Primary School and Chimwemwe A and later attended Mukuba Secondary School and enrolled at Zambia National Service and later went to UNZA were he met Tasila’s mother Dorothy Machanda. The two got married in Mtendere and later moved to Kabwata. The late Edgar Chagwa Lungu was a very sharp and accomplished lawyer.”

Kitwe United’s good start pleases coach Mwansa

0

Kitwe United coach Stephen Mwansa is pleased with his team’s start to the 2018 FAZ Super Division season.

Promoted Chingalika are 6th on the table with 11 points from six matches played after posting three wins, two draws and one defeat.

United are also the best performing promoted side this season.

“It is the first time the team is playing in the Super Division but they are doing fine. I am impressed with their performance. Other teams are not getting the points but we are picking points,” Mwansa said.

Kitwe are back in the top league this season after a 10-year hiatus.

“So far so good, the team is improving each and every day. The team is playing well and we are well organised,” the ex-Indeni and Mufulira Blackool coach said.

Mwansa wants the Buchi Boys to improve upfront and start winning home games.

In their last match, Kitwe were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Nkwazi at Garden Park Stadium in Kitwe.

“As technical we have to work on the striking force. We missed a lot of chances. We have to work on the mistakes players are making upfront,” he said.
