Chief government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili says preparations for the printing of the Barotseland Agreement have commenced.

Following President Edgar Lungu’s directive to have the agreement published, Dr. Kambwili told Hot FM News that the Barotseland Agreement will soon be published in newspapers, disseminated through Radio and flyers to enable all Zambians have access to it.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kambwili said the details of the Rodger Chongwe report remains in the jurisdiction of the President, saying that for now, government will only release the Barotseland Agreement.

Recently FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza had challenged government to make public the Roger Chongwe Barotseland Commission of Inquiry report as this may be vital going forward in trying to find a lasting solution on the matter.

His call to have the Inquiry report publicised came in the wake of President Lungu’s comments during his visit of Western Province when he side it was only him and the Litunga who had the powers to talk about the Barotseland Agreement.

Mexican-Rice-Recipe-3

Today I’m taking you on a Mexican adventure, with this delicious Mexican Rice recipe.  I would say that I definitely overlook Mexican food, even though it is so delicious; from chicken wraps and tacos to cheesy nachos – there is so much to choose from.  So let’s start with this gorgeous recipe.

Ingredients

Preparation & Cooking Time:  50 mins – 1 hour

Serves: 8-10 people

Method

Preheat oven to 350 ?C

Blend the tomato and onion in the blender (or processor) until pureed and thoroughly smooth. Transfer the mixture to measuring cup and reserve exactly 2 cups.  Remove the seeds and the middle part of the chilies and discard. Finely chop the chilies and set aside.

Rinse the rice with cold running water, until the water becomes clear – about 1 ½ minutes.  (This is a very important step to ensure that your rice is fluffy and not sticky).  On a low-medium heat, heat the oil in a large oven safe pan (about 12 inches), for 2 minutes.  Add rice and fry, stirring until it is light golden and translucent, about 6-8 minutes.  Reduce the heat to medium, add garlic and chopped chili and cook, stirring constantly until it becomes fragrant, 1 ½ minutes.  Stir in the broth, pureed mixture, tomato paste, and salt. Increase the heat to medium high, and bring to a boil.

Cover the pan and transfer it to the oven to bake until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is cooked, 30-35 minutes.  Make sure you stir half way through.

Serving

Serve hot, you can enjoy it on its own or with a side of salad and meat or chicken. You can also squeeze a bit of lime over the rice for extra flavor.

Leftovers are just as delicious so you can enjoy this rice the next day as well.  Enjoy!

Inonge Wina calls for more women in Politics

12

Vice President Inonge Wina addressing a rally at Ipusikilo Primary School ground in Lubansenshi constituency in Luwingu district to drum up support for the PF candidate for the parliamentary by-election, George MwambaACTING President Inonge Wina has urged all political parties in Zambia to ensure that they adopt more women at all levels of this year’s General Elections to meet the 50-50 gender parity that is required by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) protocol on Gender.

Ms Wina, who is the Republican Vice President, said this year’s elections were very important not only because of the 50 plus one threshold to elect a Republican President but also because of the need to have more women participation.

She was speaking in Livingstone yesterday at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport upon her arrival.

Ms Wina, who was accompanied by Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila, is today (Tuesday) expected to officiate at the Zambia Correctional Service conference at AVANI Victoria Falls Hotel.

“We want more women to be councillors, executive mayors, council chairpersons and Members of Parliament (MPs) in various parts of the country.

“This can happen if political parties adopt more women. It is the responsibility of political parties to ensure that more women are adopted so that they fill the numbers that are required by the SADC protocol which requires that women achieve 50 per cent representation in parliament and in other positions,” she said.

Ms Wina said political parties had the capacity to adopt more women to ensure that women were given more space to participate in the political parties and their country.

“This election will show the commitment of political parties when it comes to gender parity and we will see at the end of the day which political party will have adopted more women so that come 2021 in the next elections, we can meet the 50-50 requirement if we can’t meet this year.

“Southern Province should lead by example. It is here in Southern Province where UPND is intact where we want to see more women adopted on the UPND ticket. In other Provinces where other political parties are dominant, we want to see more women adopted,” she said.

Ms Wina said it was high time the women of Zambia took the lead in the political life of their country and governance of their country.

She was also glad to hear that the Cholera outbreak in Monze and Mazabuka had been contained and hope that the disease would not reoccur because it was preventable.

“The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has informed us that the preparations for this year’s elections are on course.

“Some of you have already visited your polling stations to inspect your particulars to ensure your names and other details are not misspelled and I am urging those who have not yet verified their details to do so,” she said.

Speaking earlier, Southern Province Permanent Secretary Sibanze Simuchoba said the cholera outbreak in Monze and Mazabuka had been contained and that the schools which delayed to open managed to reopen on Monday this week.

“The province is generally stable. The people in the province are now busy harvesting their maize. The season’s crop is already on the market and we expect a good harvest,” Mr Simuchoba said.

Meanwhile, some UPND cadres yesterday almost caused confusion in the central business district of Livingstone as they allegedly wanted to disturb Ms Wina’s convoy as her way from the airport to the Hotel.

But alert police officers, who were stationed at Mukuni Park and near the Post Office, kept vigil of the town centre and ensured that the cadres did not disturb the convoy.

NGOCC Executive Director Director Engwase talks women in Chief Chungu’s area in Luwingu

The Non-Governmental Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) says the ruling PF is to blame for the never ending contention that has arisen from the current amended republican constitution, reports Pan African Radio Journalist Hermit Hachilonde.

Speaking in Bemba when she met six member organizations in mansa yesterday, NGOCC Executive Director, Engwase Mwale said the ruling Party mobilized its legislators in parliament to pass the cherry picked clauses in the constitution to suit their political agenda.

Ms. Mwale stated that for as long as citizens allow politicians continue to formulate the law of the land they will always do so to satisfy their partisan interests.

She further pointed out that the arrogance of numbers in parliament should be used to advance national and not partisan agendas.
The NGOCC executive Director further said it is such short term partisan foresight that has brought the country to its current constitutional inconsistencies.

She stated that it is sad that the PF government mutilated the sacrosanct document by removing progressive clauses such as the appointment of cabinet ministers outside parliament, proportional representation, provincial assemblies and now uncertainties surrounding effective adoption of the constitution bill of rights in a planned referendum coinciding with the 2016 General Elections.

“This is on paper and it is very clear, we are not being political again, balisa fumya mo ilyashi lya bill of rights, proportional representation, and ministers outside parliament elo balaba kutufumya mo tumbi tuma clauses”

“They removed the bill of rights, proportional representation, and ministers outside parliament” Engwase Said

Meanwhile a Mansa resident only identified as chalala said people are planning to boycott casting their votes should there be anyone to be disqualified due to the grade twelve requirements.

“elyo kuma elections yaleisa ko bambi nabatampa kweba ati ifwe chakuti ewo twafwaile pantu te grade twelve takaba adopted, tatwaka vote ko”

And in the fourth coming others have started saying if the people we want to represent us will not be adopted because they do not have grade twelve certificates we will not vote” he said

The opposition UPND on Monday officially kicked off their campaign rallies with Party President Hakainde Hichilema assuring the people of Chongwe were the rally was held that he will ensure food security and stability once elected president.

Mr Hichilema emphasised the need to diversify the economy as a means to create jobs for Zambians and committed to providing clean drinking water and sanitation services not only to the people of Chongwe but but the nation at large.

Speaking at the same rally UPND Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia ECZ not to be impartial in their dealing with all the contesting political parties.

He reiterated that the current PF cabinet was in office illegally and wasting taxpayers money at the expense of priority areas.

And UDF President Miles Sampa warned the PF against fanning violence in the country as a recipe for anarchy.

Former Vice President Dr. Guy Scott called on Zambians to turnout in numbers and vote for Mr. Hichilema and avoid a rerun of elections.

Dr. Scott said there was nothing that remained in the PF, as all the original members who knew late President Michael Sata well have left and now joined hands with the UPND.

UPND National Chairperson Mutale Nalumango called on the women in Zambia to voice out by coming out in numbers to vote as they were the most affected by the
current economic crisis.

Former Chongwe MP Silvia Masebo bemoaned the continued repression in the country.
Ms. Masebo revealed that initially the UPND rally was supposed to be in Chongwe town but it was cancelled last minute on account of the first lady Esther Lungu going to Chongwe for a function.

She called on the UPND President Hakainde Hichilema and his leadership to seriously address the agriculture problem in Chongwe, as well as to invest in more schools as the
area is expanding.

Others who spoke at the rally included former Kafue MP Obvious Mwaliteta, Mpongwe MP Gabriel Namulambe, and other senior party officials.

It’s those who left PF who have abandoned Sata’s Legacy-Bwalya

Frank Bwalya addressing the news briefing
Frank Bwalya addressing the news briefing

The Patriotic Front(PF) has said that the UPND is misleading itself by suggesting that the ruling party will lose this year’s election.

PF Deputy Spokesperson, Frank Bwalya said that President Edgar Lungu and the PF will win the election.

Mr. Bwalya said that PF is more united and ready to deliver victory and defend late President Michael Sata’s legacy.

He was speaking to journalists in Lusaka today.

Mr. Bwalya said that a claim that the current leadership of the party has abandoned Mr. Sata’s legacy is baseless because President Lungu has continued with all the development projects.

He said those that have left PF and joined UPND are the ones who have abandoned Mr. Sata’s Legacy.

But UPND Deputy Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says his party will not be dragged into arguments with Mr. Bwalya.

Mr. Mweetwa says the UPND will remain focused ahead of the August 11th general election and will not concentrate on cheap politicking.

He was received at the airport by the Governor of Mecca Prince Khaled Al Faisal, Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba, Energy Minister Dora Siliya, Zambia’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ibrahim Mumba and other senior government officials.

The United Party for National Development (UPND) and Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation-ZNBC have resolved their stand-off on airing UPND’s political adverts.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says this follows a productive meeting with ZNBC management this morning.

Mr. Kakoma says his party hopes that the spirit of cooperation with ZNBC will continue throughout the campaign.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC news in Lusaka today.

And ZNBC Corporate Affairs Manager Masuzyo Ndhlovu says ZNBC has accepted four out of the six UPND adverts.

Mr. Ndhlovu says the other two adverts had contents which in the view of the cooperation were not suitable for broadcast.

He says ZNBC has put in place an Evaluation Committee to ensure that all authorised contents are devoid of abusive language, insults, libelous assertion and any expression that may be injurious to others and ZNBC’s reputation.

Mr Ndhlovu says the evaluation of political adverts will encompass all political parties participating in this year’s general elections.

He says the corporation is appealing to political parties to identify contact persons that will help ZNBC to efficiently and effectively run the political adverts for both Radio and Television.

President Edgar Lungu has dispelled assertions and fears that the Patriotic Front plans to rig the August 11th general election.

Speaking to journalists at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport shortly before departure for Saudi Arabia, President Lungu says those stakeholders accusing the ECZ of conniving with the PF to rig elections are being unfair to the commission.

President Lungu says the Electoral Commission of Zambia is full of integrity and cannot rig the elections.

He adds that those alleging that he is meeting some people with the intention of rigging the elections should prove their allegations and not speculate.

And asked to comment on the issue of issuing National Registration Cards and Voters Cards to foreigners,President Lungu said he does not work for the ECZ to answer such questions.

Meanwhile, the Head of State says he has gone to Saudi Arabia because the country is a rich producer of oil which Zambia can cut some deals with.

And the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has been urged to ignore all negative criticism coming from political players and just focus on conducting credible elections.

Zambia Republican Party President Wright Musoma says the commission must not listen to negative criticisms as they have the power to derail them from holding credible polls.

Mr. Musoma says some political parties will not stop talking ill about the commission because they fell they have already won the elections saying this is a recipe for confusion.

He says the commission must remain focused and do the best as most people are looking up to them for a good job.

Mr. Musoma has since advised fellow politicians not to drag the ECZ into politics but allow them carry out their duties effectively.

Makwaza slams spark-less Nkana-Power derby

4

Linos Makwaza has described Saturday’s Kitwe local derby between Nkana and Power Dynamos played in Wusakile as spark-less.

Nkana fought back from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Power in the low key Week 10 match of the FAZ Super Division played at Nkana Stadium.

Makwaza, a Power legend and ex-midfielder, said this year’s derby was less entertaining compared to previous matches between the two sides.

“I have played the derbies before but I think the derby has lost some ingredients associated with entertaining football,” the ex-Nkana coach said.

Power stole the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break via a Kennedy Mudenda goal before Nkana came back in the last half in which Jacob Ngulube levelled the scores.

“The game lacked sparks and the tempo has gone down,” Makwaza said.

League leaders Nkana were favourites over Power coming into this game watched by a huge crowd.
