Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has dispelled rumors raised by Foundation for Democracy Process-FODEP Executive Director MacDonald Chipenzi that there is shortage of voter registration materials in the area.
Mr Kanyama said the statement attributed to Mr Chiepenzi is untrue and that it should be rebuffed by members of the public.
In a telephone interview with ZANIS, Mr Kanyama urged Mr Chimpenzi not to mislead the people of Siavonga over his unsubstantiated reports.
Mr Kanyama said the Electoral Commission of Zambia has captured a lot of people in Siavonga from the time the voter registration exercise started.
He charged that government is determined to ensuring that many people register not only in Siavonga but the rest of the country ahead of next year’s elections.
Mr Kanyama also warned some Non-Governmental Organisations to learn to verify their statements with government offices before alarming the nation.
Yesterday, FODEP Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi was quoted in some sections of the media saying Siavonga has no voter registration materials.
MINISTER of Gender Pro. Nkandu Luo was in Mtendere constituency to witness what was going on the ground in terms of keeping Mtendere clear in Lusaka
Gender and Child Development Minister Nkandu Luo says government is determined to continue combat maternal death and unsafe abortion in the country.
Professor Luo said increased maternal death and abortion is worrisome as the country is losing a number of young girls.
The Gender and Child Development Minister said this last night during the Family Foundation of Hope Noble banquet for the Smiley Motherhood at Serenity Lodge in Lusaka.
Prof. Luo also disclosed at the same banquet that her ministry will in the next few months launch the Women at Work programme mentor ship for young girls and women.
She said the programme is aimed at sensitising young girls and women on the danger of unsafe abortion.
At the same function, the Family Foundation of Hope also presented the Noble Prize of the Smiley Parenthood to the First Lady Esther Lungu.
Family Foundation of Hope board Chairperson Wilfred Hodari said his organisation’s main agenda is to prevent unplanned pregnancies and abortion among young girls.
Ms Hodari said it is saddening that teenage girls have continued losing their lives due to lack of information on the dangers of unsafe teenage pregnancy termination.
Dr Hodari also called on co-operating partners to come to the rescue of the foundation so that it will be able to assist many people.
Chilufya Tayali is congratulated by YALI Governance Adviser Isaac Mwanza after he was acquitted
The Young African Leaders Initiative has observed that there is a lot of discontentment in the ruling PF because President Edgar Lungu has continued to appoint MMD and UPND members into key government positions.
YALI Governance Adviser Isaac Mwanza said some founder members of the PF feel sidelined by President Lungu’s pattern of appointing opposition members into government.
Mr Mwanza warned that this has the potential to cost President Lungu the 2016 election.
He said the resignation of Miles Sampa as Commerce Deputy Minister could be a tip of the iceberg and shows that there is a lot of discontentment within the PF.
‘What is happening is that some original PF members are living like garden boys whilst those that were rejected by the Zambian people are now eating with the King,’ Mr Mwanza said.
‘From our analysis, the level of discontent might cost President Lungu victory in next year’s election,’ he said.
Nawakwi shows a K4 ‘pamela’ cooking oil which residents say was at K1 a month ago.
FDD President Edith Nawakwi has called on residents of the Copperbelt Province to help the country get out of the current mess by voting out the PF.
Speaking to FDD members in Chingola, Ms Nawakwi said one of the reasons the country was going through the current economic situation was due to voters especially from the Copperbelt who voted for people without scrutinizing their capacity to govern the country.
She observed that most voters in the Province especially youths made it difficult for other political parties to campaign as they made the province an almost no go area for the other parties.
“Get us of this mess just like you put us in it, this Province overwhelmingly voted for the PF who have now turned their backs on you. All the things we helped put in place during our time in Government are grinding to a halt because the people you put in office have no idea on how to run Government.
You are the people that put us in this mess and it is your duty to get us of it, we couldn’t campaign in this Province because everywhere we passed people shouted Pa bwato! Pa bweto! Pamaka! Pamaka! Any thing different was not welcome here. Some civil servants even joined the frenzy telling voters ati muleingila abali five five well showing a PF symbol,” Ms Nawakwi said.
She added ” am sure you have learnt your lessons and I know you will do the right thing by ensuring that you vote these people out because of the misery they have put in especially here in Copperbelt were people are losing their jobs everyday.”
And Ms Nawakwi says PF has no capacity to develop the country because of their inability to think beyond their stomachs.
Ms Nawakwi observed that since the PF got into Government the only projects they have concentrated on are those in which they can get a cut on as opposed to investing in needy areas such as the improvement of the Agriculture sector.
“These people can’t think beyond their stomachs thats why you see the country being turned into one huge construction site. These road constructions are giving them tuma 10% that’s why even roads which can be more beneficial if given to a private investor they are using Government money to construct. If they had interest of the people at heart some projects such as the Chingola- Solwezi road would have been given to private investors because the people using this road are the mines. They should have invested the money in other areas of need.”

Meanwhile the opposition leader boasted that no current political party leader can match her pedigree and experience in politics and governance.
She said she is the only President of a Party who has worked in key Ministries and has exceptional records in all the Ministries.
” let me boast a bit as well, in this country am the grandmother of politics, I worked in 4 key Ministries and when you go there ( Ministries) you will find exceptional records that’s why I have been so critical about the way these people are running our country.
If you go to Ministry of Energy I put up lights in markets to help marketeers do their business beyond 18 hours because that is the time that people from offices buy their items. It was under my tenure as Minister of Energy that we took electricity to compounds like Matero, Chilenje and twapia among other towns something I initiated which program has now been turned into the Rural Electrification Program. I also know that it would take five years under extreme drought for the Kariba Dam to dry up so when I say the PF don’t know what they are doing in the energy sector I know what am talking about.
It was during my time as a Minster of Agriculture that we came up with FISP, a program which has since been abused by politicians and not serving the intended purpose and at Finance we left a foundation which turned the economy of this country around and these are facts and not fictitious crimes am supposed have committed during my time in Government being propagated by people who have no clue on how to do things for the country without thinking of how they will benefit from it. Now tell me who matches that CV, ” she said.
Ms. Nawakwi was in the Copperbelt Province to meet members and tour party empowerment projects. The party has empowered 5 women groups in Kitwe whom they have provided with 2500 chicks and feed.

South Africa’s Minister for Small Business Development, Lindiwe Zulu and Zambia’s Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Mrs. Margaret Mwanakatwe after officially launching the Zambia-South Africa Business Council in Johannesburg
The Zambia-South Africa Business Council (ZSABC) has been launched in Johannesburg, South Africa. Formed under the auspices of the Zambian High Commission in South Africa, the body aims to promote investment and trade between the two countries and to advocate quick resolution of disputes and barriers.
This is according to a press statement released to media yesterday by the Press Secretary at the High Commission of Zambia Nicky Shabolyo.
And officiating at the launch, Zambia’s Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Mrs. Margaret Mwanakatwe, and South Africa’s Minister of Small Business Development Ms. Lindiwe Zulu agreed that it was time for Zambia and South Africa to scale up their relations from political to business cooperation if the economic status of the people of the two countries was to improve.
The event which attracted an impressive crowd from those who have already invested in Zambia, potential investors and various interest groups from both Zambia and South Africa was described by many as a befitting signal to herald the start of increased economic cooperation between the two countries.
It was also attended by Zambia’s High Commissioner – Designate to South Africa, His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Mwamba, Zambia Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry vice-president, Dr. Chabuka Kawesha and representatives from the South Africa Chambers of Commerce and Industry (SACCI).
Others were African National Congress (ANC) struggle Stalwart Ms. Sophia Williams de Bruyn, Massmart Chairman Mr. Kuseni Dlamini and technocrats from the South African Department of Trade and Industry.
ZACCI and SACCI also signed a memorandum of understanding at the launch aimed at establishing closer and stronger ties in commerce and industry between the two nations.
Mrs. Mwanakatwe pointed out that Zambia and South Africa have had long political relations which began during the liberation struggle and that this should now move toward economic cooperation. She said 74 percent of the trade that took place in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) was South African and that four percent was a combination of Zambia’s and Zimbabwe’s.
“This is a sad situation. But in that sadness, there is hope. I cannot pick up Zambian products when I walk into Shoprite in Zambia today. That is sad. But in that lies opportunities. We should look at the glass as half full and not half empty. South Africa is ahead, please help us improve our relevant sectors so that our trade levels can improve,” Mrs. Mwanakatwe said.
She hoped Zambian products would be available in Builders Warehouse, a South African renowned outlet under Massmart, which would be opened in Lusaka in November this year.
Mrs. Mwanakatwe said Africa should realise that it was attracting world attention economically and that countries on the continent should strive to do business among themselves in order to empower their people.
“I was at the India-Africa Summit two weeks ago and I realised that India is positioning herself just like the other parts of the world have done on Africa. There is no return on your money in Europe but you are assured of a return on your money in Africa. Africa is probably the last frontier,” Mrs. Mwanakatwe said.
She commended His Excellency Mwamba for taking up the lead to form the business council.
And Ms. Zulu said Zambia and South Africa have been proponents of regional enterprise development pointing out that it was important to highlight the importance of small enterprises as they were the backbone of economies.
“What we start today should be followed through so that we can achieve bigger things. It should not die a few months down the line. Let us all work on this from the basis of our historical ties. We should be aiming to move things forward and for me the next level should be about economic empowerment of our people,” Ms. Zulu said.
“Let us go into this wholeheartedly. That is not to say there will be no differences, but let us maximise the benefits in the areas in which we will be agreed,” she added.
She agreed with Mrs. Mwanakatwe pointing out that it was clear that there was need for Zambia and South Africa, and the rest of the continent to forge links in order to end poverty through the use of the political power embodied in the leaders.
And in his presentation titled “Zambia a rich country”, Mr. Mwamba said Zambia still had untapped potential in agriculture, tourism, energy, and other sectors and that this was the reason government has embarked on a vigorous diversification programme to move away from mining.
Mr. Mwamba pointed out that potential investors should not look at the 15 million people as the only market if they had to invest in Zambia but should consider the country’s central location which was an ideal position from which to service the region.
“We have well developed road linkages and we have continued developing new regional and national roads so that we truly realise our position as a land linked and not land locked country. So when you are in Zambia, you are in fact investing in the region,” Mr. Mwamba said.
He noted that business was sensitive to politics and that Zambia’s political stability was just the right ingredient for investment.
Mr. Mwamba and other speakers bemoaned the education curricular which they said did not equip graduates with skills that could enable them survive without seeking employment from government or other entities or individuals.
Meanwhile, speaking on a panel discussion, Father Peter Chungu, Parish Priest in-charge at the Catholic Diocese of Port Elizabeth in South Africa castigated some sections of society for claiming that the day of national prayer proclaimed by President Edgar Lungu was meant to pray for the strengthening of the Kwacha.
Father Chungu told the audience that this was misrepresentation because Zambia, just as the national constitution declares, was a Christian nation. He said the prayers were directed at the social, economic, political and moral degeneration that had occurred in the country so that God could give the nation wisdom to face those challenges.
Other speakers were energy expert Mr. Johnstone Chikwanda who spoke on the potential in the energy sector, among others, Mr. Peter Mwanza from the United Nations Development Programme in South Africa and a Dr. Musonda from the University of Johannesburg.
ZSABC chairman, Mr. Charles Kalima said objectives central to the council were to promote investment in both countries and to share information on business opportunities and potential investors from the two countries. He said ZSABC was open to all categories of business from the two countries.
Massmart chairman, Mr, Dlamini said his business has been in Zambia for 16 years and was determined to grow as it had found the country conducive. He said with the combined over 250 employees in its outlets in Zambia Massmart will be adding another 156 employees when it opens Builders Warehouse in the next few weeks.
“Zambia is ready for business and if anyone doubts that, they will miss the bus. We are committed to ensuring that we support the local producers through our outlets such as Game Stores and even those we shall establish in the future,” Mr. Dlamini said.

She applauded the Zambia Airpower Ladies Organisation for organising the fundraising luncheon and that the event is in line with government’s goal of providing quality health care to all Zambians.
Mrs Lungu noted that quality health care provision should be priority for all well-meaning stakeholders especially Zambians.
She stated that the ZAF hospital will not only benefit ZAF personnel but also surrounding communities.
She also noted that as much as it is government’s responsibilities to provide quality health care for all Zambians, it cannot achieve everything alone but that citizens needed to be on board to supplement government’s efforts.
And Air Power Ladies Patron, Sharron Chimese said ZAF Air Force Hospital, is not the only great strides of the Club’s good works saying that the club has been involved in other projects aimed at raising the living standards of the Zambia Air Force bases and surrounding communities.

Police in Kitwe on the Copperbelt have arrested one more person in connection with the gruesome murder of three Chinese Nationals from the same family.
These are Wang Gang, Wang Wei and Wang You whose ages are still being ascertained.
Copperbelt police Chief Joyce Kasosa says Police also recovered K6,500.00 from the suspect who was arrested in Chipata district of Eastern Province after a chase.
Mrs. Kasosa told ZNBC News in an interview in Kitwe that K3000.00 has also been discovered from the mother of the suspect who is currently in Police custody.
The Chinese Nationals are proprietors of Golden Kings Investments Company Limited a firm involved in the manufacture of roofing sheets and other materials.
She said the mother whose name has been withheld did not disclose to police that she had been given money by her son until he was apprehended in Chipata.
Police have identified two of the three men on the run as Norman Kachingwe and John Mwanza who were employees of the Chinese firm for close to two years.
The three suspected assailants used axes, iron bars and stones in the killings, in a murderous rage that has shocked many residents.
Three other Chinese Nationals from the same family are nursing injuries after being hacked in the same attack.
Strife is a very destructive force. It can creep into relationships by starting small, maybe through a comment or a wrong look from someone, and can then escalate into something much bigger. But when you choose to cease from strife and overlook an offense, you are acting honorably and honoring God.
How do you avoid strife? The Bible tells us that love covers over many offenses. Love stops strife. It means that you give people the benefit of the doubt. You consider what they may be going through instead of focusing on how they reacted to you. Maybe someone was short with you at the office, but they may have a loved one in the hospital. Instead of getting upset, walk in love—be patient and kind to them. Look for ways to walk in peace with the people in your life and put an end to strife!
A Prayer for Today
“Father, today I choose Your ways. I choose peace and love, and I choose to avoid strife. Let everything I say and do bring honor to You in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
Zanaco stayed on course to finishing second after an emphatic 4-0 away win over defending champions Zesco United.
Zesco gave little resistance to Zanaco clearly still carrying a hangover from Wednesday league win celebrations after their 1-1 away draw at forest.
Zanaco went 3-0 into halftime when Fackson Kapumbu put them ahead in the 15th minute but four minutes later Boyd Musonda’s goal was ruled out for offside.
Moses Phiri hammered in the second in the 23rd minute and Musonda was rewarded for his hard work when his free kick beat Zesco goalkeeper Jacob Banda.
Phiri comp-leted his brace in stoppage time to hand Zesco their worst and third loss of the 2015 season.
Zanaco move to 60 points after their penultimate game if the season, six more than Power Dynamos who should they draw away at Nchanga Rangers on Sunday will see The Bankers confirmed as 2015 runners-up with a game to spare.

The Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) has started offloading mealie meal on the market in Kasama at a cost of 45 Kwacha a 25 kilogram bag. The staple food is produced under the newly built presidential milling plant. Mealie meal prices in other parts of the Country are as high as 80 Kwacha per 25 kilogram bag.
ZCF Director General James Chirwa says President Edgar Lungu’s milling plants initiative has started proving critics wrong. Mr. Chirwa was speaking in an interview with ZNBC news in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, State House says President Edgar Lungu has intervened in the escalating mealie meal prices in some parts of the country and has instituted measures to bring down the price of the country’s staple food.
Special Assistant to the president for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda says an agreement has been reached between Government and the Food Reserve Agency-FRA where the agency will from tomorrow offload maize to millers at an agreed amount.
Mr. Chanda was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Kitwe. He said President Lungu will further invoke more measures to bring down the price of mealie meal if the latest intervention by the head of state does NOT produce results.

Mr. Chanda said the head of state will on Monday, meet the Chinese Ambassador to ZAMBIA to personally deliver his message of condolence and assure the Chinese community in Zambia of their safety.
