Nevers MumbaMMD President Dr. Nevers Mumba has advised party members who have applied to stand on other political parties to come back to the party saying they will just be used and dumped.
Dr. Mumba says some members have applied on PF tickets while others on UPND saying they will be used and not adopted in the last minute.
He says such members will not be adopted even if they decide to come back to the party.
Dr. Mumba says they should not be used as this will not work to their advantage but to the advantage of the parties they are supporting.
He says the former ruling party remains committed in seeing to it that they perform accordingly during August elections.

FDD President Edith Nawakwi has urged workers to play their part by ensuring that they commit themselves to their work.
In her sympathetic Labour day Message released to the media, in which she highlighted the tough conditions faced and endured by workers, Ms nawakwi said that the country did not want a bunch of employees who waste man-hours chatting on Facebook and WhatsApp.
Ms Nawakwi further called for a dedicated workforce that did not misapply themselves and steal from their clients and employers.
Below is the her full Message
This year’s Labour Day celebrations come at a time when most of our workers are stressing under the burden of a crunching economic meltdown. The cost of living is on the rise. Prices of essential goods and services are skyrocketing far beyond the reach of most. The Kwacha has lost its value, further eroding the purchasing power of our workers’ money.
People are paying twice or even thrice for the same amount of goods they used to buy at lower prices barely a year ago. Most of our workers, public workers, at the most are surviving on kaloba and pay slow. Most of them cannot afford to basic stuff such as relish, clothes, beddings or perfume on cash basis, they rely on pay slow or credit.
The interest rates are too high, making the repayment of loans/kaloba for most of our workers even more costly. Many workers are taking home almost nothing as the huge chunk of their salary goes to kaloba and taxes. While prices of essential goods are ever on the rise, salaries of most employees are stagnant. In the last two years, civil servants have endured the regress of a wage freeze that the PF Government unilaterally imposed on them.
Many workers starting from the police, teachers, miners, janitors to doctors are working in very difficult conditions ranging from shortage of implements, shortage of manpower to shortage of transport and accommodation. In short, the bulk of our workers are demotivated, burdened and poor. They are simply getting by.
Of late we have seen a sad phenomenon of threats and victimisation of civil servants by those holding political office. The Republican President himself has been in the forefront issuing threats and intimidating public service workers on mere suspicions that such individuals belong to opposition political parties. A lot of people have lost jobs, others have been transferred to the remotest areas of our country on suspicion that they sympathise with the opposition.
The workers plight has been worsened by the loss of thousands of jobs due to the energy crisis and our shrinking economy. The social security of most of our workers is not guaranteed. We have people who were retrenched or who retired a decade ago who are still fighting to get their benefits. Many retirees have been reduced to destitutes and are dying from depression without enjoying the fruit of their labour.
Going forward we need to improve the conditions of service of our workers. Lift the wage freeze and devise a clear system of bargaining and negotiating wages in order to ensure that salaries of our workers are always commensurate to inflationary trends and the actual economic dynamics obtaining on the ground.
There is need to invest in training and retraining of our workforce so that they can acquire the necessary skills and competence needed in order to improve efficiency and productivity. We need to motivate our workers and maximise their potential by giving them better salaries and the necessary tools they need for their work.
I want to emphasise that workers must also do their part by ensuring that they commit themselves to their work. We don’t want a bunch of employees who waste man-hours chatting on Facebook and WhatsApp. We equally don’t want workers that misapply and steal from their clients and employers. We call for a dedicated workforce.
There is need to strengthen the inspectorate role of the state to monitor and evaluate the efficiency and conditions of our workers.
We need to professionalise the civil service and weed it off of unqualified cadres. We need to learn to respect professionals and stop using political power to instil fear and impose programs. Let us learn to allow the technocrats to do their work without political interference and machinations. We get the best results when we allow professionals to do their job in an uninhibited manner.
As FDD we believe that money for retirees should be factored in the budget a year in advance before someone retires so that they get their money immediately they formally retire.
However, there will be no significant or meaningful improvement that in the lives of our workers if we can’t fix the economy. We need to deal with the fiscal deficit, account deficit, energy deficit and the trade deficit. We need to invest in training and retention of our our best minds. Also we need to fix the moral and intellectual deficit.
May God the Zambian workers. May God bless Zambia.
Edith Nawakwi FDD President
And UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema released the following Message for Workers on Labour Day
UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema
OFFICIAL STATEMENT
My fellow Zambians, let us join together and celebrate Labour Day!
A time to celebrate and give thanks to all those who work tirelessly to make this nation great and provide for their families. As Martin Luther King Jr once said ‘No work is insignificant. All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.’
As many of you will know, I personally hold the values of hard work and dedication very close to my heart and that is the widely shared vision in our UPND. It is only through these that true success is possible and that we can bring an end to poverty and inequality in our country.
Times are tough at the moment and we are in a situation today where many workers are not receiving sufficient reward for their labour, they fear for their jobs or in fact they cannot find work at all. This is impacting our youths in particular and we urgently need to tackle unemployment head on so that we do not let a whole generation down.
As President of the UPND, I am fully committed to empowering Zambians and this means creating an economic environment for more jobs, providing greater protection of workers rights, reforming education so it equips students with employable skills and business know-how.
We also wish to provide the right environment for entrepreneurs to flourish. This will be done by opening up access to credit, sponsoring training initiatives and cutting back red tape to start business. We will also ensure stable and predictable economic policies.
Today we thank all those that work hard to provide us with our food, water, power, roads, healthcare and education and so much more. However, we should also recognise that we deserve better and we can do better with the right government and the right leadership.
Former President Dr Kenneth Kaunda Being Presented Gifts during his 92nd Birth Day
FIRST Republican president Kenneth Kaunda has urged Zambians to desist from violence before, during and after the general elections this year.
Dr Kaunda has further cautioned Zambians against engaging themselves in xenophobia.
Speaking at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus in Lusaka yesterday, Dr Kaunda observed that freedom fighters fought hard for Zambia to attain peace and thus, the citizenry should ensure that they maintained it with love for one another.
Dr Kaunda said Zambians should embrace one another regardless of their political affiliation as engaging in violence was tantamount to going against the country’s vision.
“In this year of elections, let us remember to love our neighbour as ourselves. That neighbour maybe from another background or from another country; that neighbour may not be from your political party. Let us honour Zambia’s vision by avoiding violence.
“As we go about in politics, let us avoid violence within our parties and across parties and let us avoid violence against immigrants. We are brothers and sisters in this one world, Our One Zambia, One Nation,” he said.
Dr Kaunda’s remarks come in the wake of political violence which is usually rife in the run up to and after elections.
The country will hold general elections on August 11, 2016.
Dr Kaunda’s comments on violence against immigrants follow the recent riots experienced in some densely populated areas of Lusaka, resulting in the looting of shops belonging to foreigners.
The fracas was triggered by unconfirmed reports that foreigners were involved in ritual killings, which have led to six people being brutally murdered. The bodies were found with missing organs.

SEX workers, mainly operating from roadside slots in Lusaka, have recorded one of the worst business seasons in the past few weeks as they cannot freely go out for fear of being victims of ritual murders.
A check by this reporter on one of the roads in Long Acres, which is usually crammed with sex workers, around 22:45 hours on a Friday night, surprisingly found only two prostitutes who were hesitant to come close to the parked vehicle.
“How many are you in the car first? Open the windows,” one of them asked and demanded from a distance as the other watched carefully, while following the colleague behind.
Asked why the unusual hesitation and questions, one of them, who only introduced herself Beatrice, said it was no longer safe to do business as the ritual killers were on the loose and would easily go for them.
“I can’t come into the car where there are more than two men, I don’t know what you may be up to if not killing me for some body parts,” she said.
Most of her colleagues had completely stopped coming on the streets, but had relocated to cheap guest houses where they would rent rooms and do business from.
She said roadsides were better than guest houses as one would spend nothing and also get quick business.
Beatrice also complained that Police officers who were patrolling the city did not spare them once found on the streets after 22:00 hours.
She claimed that in some cases she and some of her friends would pay the admission of guilt fee in kind before being set free by the law enforcers.
A check at one of the named guest houses in Soweto Market, found all rooms fully booked with most of them paid upfront for a month.
According to one sex worker, Evelyn Sakala, found at the guest house, the prices of the rooms were even hiked by K10:00 due to the high demand for the rooms mainly by sex workers.
“In most cases we are three or even four paying for a single room and if one has a client, we give her chance to do her business, but if it is an overnight client then she has to contribute a bigger amount towards the room charge,” she said.
Lusaka has in the past weeks witnessed ugly scenes including ransacking of foreigners’ shops on suspicion that they were behind the six recorded suspected retail murders.
“The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips.”
(Proverbs 16:23, NKJV)
Listen to Your Heart
Choosing your words is very important. The scripture tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. God Himself spoke the worlds into existence by the creative power of words. You can bless your future with your words, or you can curse it.
There are many influences over our words. In the heat of the moment, we can let our emotions tell us what to say. We can listen to what others say and allow them to influence our words. We can even be influenced by what we watch on TV, the internet or read in the news. But notice what today’s verse tells us that a wise person does—a wise person listens to their heart and lets their heart teach them what to say. As a believer, when you listen to your heart, you are tuning in to what the Spirit of God is saying to you. You are coming into agreement with Him.
Today, listen to your heart. Take time to be still and quiet before the Lord. Allow Him to teach you what to say. As you submit your words and ways to Him, He will direct your path.
A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You for giving me power in the words of my mouth. Help me to stay tuned in to You by listening to my heart. Teach me to use my words to always speak life and bless others in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
FAZ Super Division leaders Nkana will fight to preserve their stay at the top when they host Lusaka Dynamos on Sunday at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
Nkana are aware that their stay at the pinnacle of the table is being threatened by closest rivals Zesco United, Nkwazi and Nakambala Leopards who are closing in on the leaders.
Coach Aggrey Chiyangi’s side lead the table with 16 points from 6 matches while second placed Zesco had 12 points from four games prior to Saturday’s Week 8 match against struggling Mufulira Blackpool in Ndola.
Meanwhile, Nkana are favourites to win as they come up against a struggling Lusaka Dynamos side in front of their supporters in Wusakile.
Dynamos are third from the foot of the table with 5 points from seven matches.
The Lusaka side are smarting from a midweek 4-0 drubbing suffered at Zanaco while Nkana thumped Nchanga Rangers 4-2 in their last match played a fortnight ago.
The match kicks off at 15h00 and is scheduled to be broadcast on SuperSport.
Meanwhile, Mufulira Wanderers’ Week 8 match against Zanaco will be played on Monday at Shinde Stadium in Kantanshi, Mufulira.

President Edgar Lungu has urged Patriotic Front members to be disciplined and maintain loyalty to the party ahead of the adoption process.
President Lungu said that discipline is cardinal among party members especially those aspiring for adoption on the party ticket as councillors, Members of Parliaments and mayors.
The President urged party members to learn from his loyalty as one who waited for his time to be appointed by late President Michael Sata first as a Deputy Minister before becoming a full Cabinet minister.
President Lungu was speaking at a mammoth public rally in Chinsali district held at Mulilansolo Basic School grounds.
The President said that government will deliver development to all parts of Zambia including Chinsali.
The President further advised the people of Mulilansolo against voting for the opposition as they risk retarding development his administration has embarked on.
And Gender Minister Nkandu Luo also warned that changing government on August 11 would not be in the best interest of the country.
She said President Lungu is better placed to continue with the development agenda of the country.
At the same event, PF Shawangandu MP Stephen Kampyongo urged the people of Mulilansolo to vote for President Lungu in the August 11 Presidential election.
Mr Kampyongo who is also Local Government Minister appealed to the youth in the country to give President Lungu resounding support like they did in the last polls.

Meanwhile, President Edgar Lungu has assured small-scale farmers that Government will this season buy their produce at a good price.
The President has since called on small scale farmers to ignore exploiters who will be seeking to buy their maize.
President Lungu was speaking at a rally at Mulilansolo in Chinsali.
And the President has told the people of Chinsali that he does not take for granted the massive support he continues to receive in Muchinga province.
President Lungu also promised to complete all the projects initiated by late President Micheal Sata.
The President further said government will continue with its robust infrastructure development projects adding that all the township roads will be done as promised.
And Senior Chief Nkula of the Bemba speaking people of Chinsali has praised President Lungu for his efforts to complete the infrastructure development projects launched by late President Michael Sata.
The Chief has also warned to take decisive action against anyone promoting political violence in his chiefdom.
The traditional leader says he would be addressing security personnel in the area to discuss security in the chiefdom especially during the campaign period.
He said Bemba chiefs are proud of President Lungu’s leadership style which has enabled him to unite the country in the aftermath of the challenging period following the death of President Michael Sata.
Chief Nkula said he is the proudest chief to have been honoured with two universities under the ongoing infrastructure programme unveiled by the PF government in 2012.
The Chief also briefed the President on his work in promoting agricultural cooperatives in the chiefdom.

Rev. Reuben SamboTHE MMD has accused police of treating Lunte Member of Parliament Felix Mutati with kid gloves and giving him special treatment despite the party notifying the authorities of his status as an expelled member, MMD spokesperson Reuben Sambo has charged.
In an interview yesterday, Rev. Sambo said the party had written to the police on more than two occasions not to allow Mr Mutati to hold party functions as he was an expelled member but the police had continued to treat the parliamentarian with kid gloves.
“We have done everything within our power to restrain Mr Mutati. We have written to the police not once or twice but on many occasions on the status of Mr Mutati being an expelled member but they treat him with kid gloves.
‘‘But If Mr Mutati is special to the police, he is not special to us and whatever he will encounter at the hands of the MMD members will be his fault,” Rev. Sambo said.
He accused the police of letting Mr Mutati freely conduct his activities which he described as ‘‘criminal’’ despite the party having written to all police commissioners in the 10 provinces.
Rev. Sambo said what the Lunte parliamentarian was doing was a crime as he had continued to use party structures as well as the party name despite being an expelled member.
“The using of party structures and the MMD name by Mr Mutati is a crime as he is an expelled member and his days are numbered. Everyone has a day, and his day is drawing closer,” he said.
Rev. Sambo said manoeuvres being made by Mr Mutati and few of his friends would not destabilise the party or save his dwindling fortunes. And Rev. Sambo said the olive branch which the party had extended to all its estranged members was still open.
He maintained that the party would not hold a convention but would do so after the August 11 general elections as agreed by its national executive committee.
“There will be no party convention. It will only take place as agreed by NEC which is after the general elections,” Rev. Sambo said.
FORMER Vice President Dr. Guy Scott flanked by his Wife Charlotte address the crowd when he endorsed the candidature of UPND President Hakainde Hichilema
GUY Scott is the most ungrateful old man on the political scene for casting aspersions on his former political parties (MMD and PF) under which he served as Cabinet minister and republican Vice President respectively, says Patriotic Front national youth chairman Stephen Kampyongo.
And Mr Kampyongo has described as “rubbish” Dr Scott’s threats on killing PF ahead of the August general elections.
He said Dr Scott cannot kill the PF party because he failed to do so when he had “illegal” instruments of power.
Meanwhile, Mr Kampyongo has branded Dr Scott as the most ungrateful old man on Zambia’s political scene.
Dr Scott was quoted as saying, “We’ll cause havoc for PF…until Edgar Lungu and his MMD friends are removed from power again”.
“So we are on a mission to take away the PF members that we suffered with who have been replaced by MMD,” Dr Scott said on Sunday during a UPND rally in Mazabuka.
Reacting to Dr Scott’s sentiments, Mr Kampyongo said it was MMD and PF who brought Dr Scott onto the political scene.
Mr Kampyongo, who is Shiwangandu Member of Parliament, said everything that Dr Scott was today, politically, was because of his involvement with MMD and the PF.
Mr Kampyongo said Dr Scott failed to kill PF when he illegally found himself with the instruments of power.
He said with his (Scott) evil scheme then, he failed to give the instruments of power to his friend, Mr Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Kampyongo said Dr Scott had never been with PF even when he was Vice President.
He said the PF was aware of Dr Scott’s dealing with the UPND leader even when he had instruments of power after President Michael Sata’s demise.
Mr Kampyongo alleged that Dr Scott continued disrespecting PF and late President Sata during his funeral but did not yield to anything.
“We were ahead of him during President Sata’s funeral (MHSRIP) that is when he was planning of giving the instruments of power to his friends,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Kampyongo said Dr Scott should prepare himself for yet another battle with PF.
“We shall take him on in August. He should be ready and buy a leather belt for his falling trousers,” he said.
Mr Kampyongo said Dr Scott started working with UPND together with Emmanuel Chenda, Sylvia Masebo and Daniel Munkombwe before they all left the party. He said that was the reason as to why the late President fired some of them during his time.
He said Dr Scott had always been a traitor even before President Sata’s demise.
Mr Kampyongo said the people of Zambia and the PF members were alive to the fact that Dr Scott was a traitor.
“He (Scott) needs to prepare himself for another shameful defeat if he thinks he will remove President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and PF from government,” he said.

President Edgar Lungu Visits Lusaka Riots Victims at Kalemba Hall in Lusaka
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has said he had no influence in the adoption process of aspiring candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
President Lungu said he had no influence in the adoption process stating that the only people who knows about the adoption where members of Central Committee of the Patriotic Front (PF).
The President was speaking when he made a stop- over at Mfuwe International Airport enroute to Chama District yesterday.
Mr Lungu said he was dismayed that some individuals who have applied to contest on parliamentary and local government were using his name claiming that they have been sent to campaign in that particular area while not.
“I am fully aware that they are some people who have applied to contest some parliamentary and local government seats in the forthcoming general elections. These people are claiming that I am the one who have sent them, the truth is that is not the fact because I also went the Central Committee to adopt credible people to contest elections,” he said.
President Lungu said the Central Committee would scrutinise and adopt the best candidates based from recommendations from the lower organs.
He encouraged those who would not be adopted to feature on general elections to support those that are going to be adopted by the party.
He said those that would feel offended, should leave the party in order to allow harmony to prevail ahead of the general elections.
“I know that only one person is going to be adopted in every constituency to contest but I am encouraging those that are not going to be adopted not to be offended but support whoever is going to be adopted on that particular time. Those that are not going to be satisfied are free to leave the party,” he said.
President Lungu reiterated that some adoption processes had been marred with corruption which he said it must not happen in the ruling party.
He said he was chosen as party president in Kabwe without involving himself into corruption charging that corruption was bad.
The Head of State said party cadres should be on the forefront in promoting unity and peace in the country.
Mr Lungu has also advised United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema and MMD leader Dr Nevers Mumba to always promote the One Zambia, One Nation slogan which was aimed at fostering unity in the country.
He had never heard Mr Hichilema and Dr Mumba talking about One Zambia, One Nation motto during their meetings.
“I am advising Mr Hakainde Hichilema and Dr Nevers Mumba to always mention about One Zambia, One Nation which is a national motto,”he said.
The Head of State was met by Eastern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Patrick Mwanawasa, Katete District Commissioner Joseph Makukula, assistant secretary Royd Tembo, party members and senior government officials.
