Judgments for jobs scandal: How some Judges were promised promotions if they delivered favourable judgments for State House or State House

A scandal is brewing in the Judiciary after information emerged that some top Judges were promised promotions if they delivered favourable judgments in politically sensitive cases.

Newly appointed Constitutional Court President Justice Margaret Munalulu, Justice Palan Mulonda, Magistrate Faides Hamaundu and Magistrate Martin Namushi are some of the Judges that had signed for the illegal scheme.

According to highly placed sources within the Judicial Services Commission, the Judges were promised to be promoted if they delivered Judgements in favour of President Hichilema and the UPND.

The sources who are not allowed to speak to Journalists and opted to remain anonymous because of security concerns said it is true that President Hichilema had a secret meeting with selected Judges and Chief Justice Mumba Malila last year where he made the promises.

“If you remember, the state quickly moved in and arrested Nakacinda (Rapheal) after he disclosed details of this meeting, well, the truth is that the meeting did take place and the state was going to be embarrassed if nothing was done to Rapheal after the revelation,” the sources said.

They revealed that Justices Munalula and Mulonda were singled out and asked to deliver favourable judgments in the Kabushi and Kwacha election petitions.

“So the President offered Justice Munalula and Palan (Mulonda) the ConCourt presidency and vice respectively. However, so far only Margaret has been awarded and this has left Palan very frustrated. He feels used and dumped and he is now telling all of us that that the Judgment he wrote for Kabushi and Kabwata makes him feel stupid because it lacked facts,” the sources said.

“For the Court President (Justice Munalula), she has always favoured the UPND and President Hichilema, remember even in the Lungu eligibility petition, she is the only one who offered dissenting judgment that Lungu didn’t qualify to stand, even in the Kwacha and Kabushi election petition, she again was the only one who said ECZ acted within the law.”

The sources further revealed that Magistrate Faides Hamaundu was promised a new position as Resident Chief Magistrate at Lusaka if she manages to convict Bowman Lusambo and the wife, Nancy.

“What is surprising is that Magistrate Hamaundu is retired, she is only serving on contract to help clear the backlog of cases and as far as we are concerned here at the Judicial Service Commission, you can’t promote someone who is on contract. She was promised Chief Registrar but she has been given the role of Principle Magistrate and she has very upset,” the sources said.

They added, “Magistrate Hamaundu also feels used. She has come to our offices complaining at the offer letter to be promoted as Principal Magistrate was handed over to her. She now wants to stop as soon as her contract runs out.”

They said the manner in which State House is treating appointment of judges as potential to undermine the judiciary.

The sources said all the key appointments in the judiciary is coming from State House.

The said Magistrate Martin Namushi who was based in Samfya was promised a transfer to Luanshya if he handled the Chitotela and Chilangwa court case in Kawambwa favourably.

The sources have warned that the schemes by Chief Justice Mumba Malila and President Hichilema have the potential to put the country on fire.

“CJ Malila needs to be careful with the manner is handling his relationship with President Hichilema or else, he risks going to jail when there is a change in government,” they warned.

Stadium Hooliganism Irks Kamanga

0

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga says he is expecting the Disciplinary Committee to take action over increasing incidents of hooliganism during football matches.

Nkana supporters have been accused of almost causing the abandonment of the Kitwe derby against Power Dynamos last Saturday after throwing objects on the pitch.

In his weekly column dubbed President’s Corner, Kamanga said FAZ has noted increasing incidents of crowd trouble and violence that tend to dent the game.

He said Football House expects clubs to provide safety and security during matches.

“Our season is nearing the end in the next few weeks with stakes very high among the possible winners and losers. We have noted increasing incidences of crowd trouble and violence that tend to dent our game,” Kamanga wrote.

A Policeman and assistant referee Nancy Kashitu were injured by projectiles thrown by the Nkana fans from the stands after Andy Boyeli’s opening goal in the 2-0 win.

“We expect that our judicial bodies will swing into action to stem these incidents that have the potential to cast our game in bad light. Our expectation is that clubs do not abdicate their responsibility of providing safety and security during matches.”

Kamanga concluded:”As FAZ we will endeavour to abide by our set standard of ensuring that all pending cases are cleared long before the season ends.”

Mbesuma Wishes His Son The Best At 2023 U17 AFCON

Former Chipolopolo star Collins Mbesuma says he is excited by the inclusion of his son Lineker Mbesuma in the Zambia Under-17 squad that is competing at the Africa Cup in Algeria.

Lineker was a late second half substitute when Zambia lost 1-0 to Nigeria in their opening Group B match on Sunday evening.

Speaking exclusively to Radio Icengelo Sports by phone, Mbesuma said Lineker needs support as a young player.

He thanked the Football Association of Zambia, coaches and supporters for believing in the youngster.

“As parents we happy that he has been selected to go the Africa Cup at that tender age. We thank everyone who saw potential in Lineker,” Mbesuma said.

Mbesuma emphasised that he had been reluctant to issue media statements on Lineker because he is still young.

“Lineker is very young. He is only 16 so I have been avoiding to speak about him in the media. You know I don’t believe in playing football in the media. Football is played on the pitch,” he said.

About Hakainde’s Response to Edgar Lungu’s Potential 2026 Run

29

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. In the current political circles, the elephant in the room is whether Former President Edgar Lungu will run for President again in 2026, or if he has completely retired from active politics. Personally l think it would be better for the nation if President Lungu did not run, and instead fully assumed the role of statesman. I say so on the basis of a number of factors, one of which, l must admit, is my own self-interest. The other being the fact that this nation is extremely short of statesmen at the moment. Other factors include the adversarial and vengeful nature of our politics, which l doubt that the Former President would have a stomach for.

2. Despite the many current deficiencies of President Hakainde Hichilema, one thing that you cannot take away from him is that he was a resilient and steadfast opposition leader who perfected the art of surviving a brutal regime. Now that the PF brutal regime has been replaced by the UPND brutal regime, the question that inevitably arises is whether Former President Edgar Lungu would have the same resilience and steadfastness which President Hakainde Hichilema exhibited while in opposition? I think not. You see, surviving a brutal regime, as an opposition leader, is an instinct that you acquire and perfect over a period of time, and that is born out of the trials and tribulations that you are subjected to. It is not something that most politicians readily possess. In the case of President Hakainde Hichilema, he acquired that survival skill first as a third-rate intern to Michael Sata while he fought the MMD regime, and subsequently by auditioning for the role between 2011 and 2014.

3. Truth be told, many of the current crop of leaders in PF including Former President Edgar Lungu himself, were never in the forefront when the Late Former President Michael Sata was battling the MMD regime. The few that were there have most probably forgotten their fighting skills due to the affluence and sleaze that they enjoyed in the 10 years that PF was in power. They have probably forgotten how vicious our politics can be, largely because for a good 10 years, it was them that were bestowing tribulations on others. And as the Chewa proverb goes; “mudya nyemba aibala, koma mudya makoko saibala”. Bottom line is that if indeed Former President Edgar Lungu intends to come back to active politics, then he should not underestimate what lies ahead of him in terms of trials and tribulations. He needs to be physically, emotionally and mentally ready.

4. That said, it is not in anyone’s place to stop Former President Edgar Lungu from coming back to active politics. Everyone has a right to advise him, but no one has a right to stop him. That is why l find it strange that President Hakainde Hichilema is unable to hide his disdain about a potential Lungu come-back. The President’s remarks a few days ago while in the Copperbelt, should be a source of worry to every well-meaning Zambian. Hakainde should understand that Zambia is a Constitutional Republic and not a monarchy with him as king. Therefore the rights of citizens are derived from the Constitution, and not given by Hakainde the king. It is not in the place of President Hakainde Hichilema to determine whether Former President Edgar Lungu comes back to active politics or not.

5. If Mr. Lungu intends to stand in 2026, then Mr. Hichilema should focus on demonstrating to the electorate why he is better than Mr. Lungu. The current status is that Mr. Lungu is a bonafide Zambian citizen whom, according to the Constitutional Court, is eligible to stand again as President of Zambia in 2026. If Former President Edgar Lungu wants to visit churches and mobilize support for his potential 2026 run, he is perfectly within his legal rights to do so. He does not need to get permission from President Hakainde Hichilema nor anyone else for that matter.

6. I must mention however that l am particularly worried with the extent to which President Hakainde Hichilema appears to be preoccupied with a potential Lungu come-back. It has become fashionable for President Hichilema to publicly denounce Former President Edgar Lungu’s potential come-back. But why am l worried? Well, l am worried because the President, like all of us, is only a human being and can only address one issue at a time. Right now, the country is going through an economic melt-down. The economy of the Copperbelt is literally on a standstill, largely because the President has not decided on the way forward regarding Mopani and KCM. The economy of Lusaka is literally dead because there is no money in circulation and the cost of living is unbearable. The economy of rural areas which depend on agriculture is half-dead because farming inputs were either delivered late, not delivered at all or delivered in extremely small quantities, in the past farming season.

7. Given the crisis in which our country and our economy is going through at the moment, we need the President to be giving us his “A” game. We need President Hakainde Hichilema to be giving his undivided attention to the problems that are bedeviling this nation at the moment. But the President cannot do that if he is preoccupied by Former President Edgar Lungu’s potential come-back on the ballot. When he visits the Copperbelt, instead of talking about bread and butter issues such as when he will re-open Mopani and KCM, he is busy talking about how he will deal with alebwelelapo.

8. Mr President sir, Zambia is a Constitutional Democracy and if the people of this great nation decide that they want to bring back Former President Edgar Lungu in 2026, then their will should be respected. It is neither in your place nor in my place to second-guess the wishes of the Zambian people. That is what democracy entails. The same democracy that elevated you from a long-time opposition leader to a Republican President. Let us learn to respect democracy. Both when it favors us and when it doesn’t.

Fred M’membe Urges Zambian Workers to Keep Fighting for Their Rights on Labour Day

Dr Fred M’membe, President of the Socialist Party in Zambia, spoke at length about the challenges facing workers in Zambia on this year’s Labour Day.

“The cost of living is skyrocketing, jobs are being lost and becoming fewer and fewer, the few remaining jobs are being degraded and increasingly unsecure,” he said. “But in the midst of all these difficulties, challenges and sufferings let’s not forget that the workers have given us whatever we have, made us what we are, and will make us what we hope to be.”

He went on to stress the importance of Labour Day in allowing workers to rest and reflect on their contributions to society. “Labour Day is a good day to rest the hands and give the brain a chance – to think about what has been, and is, and is yet to be,” he said.

Despite the challenges facing workers, Dr M’membe remained optimistic about the future. “The way has been long and weary and full of pain, and many have fallen by the wayside, but the Unconquerable Army of Labour is still on the march,” he said. “And as it rests on its arms today and casts a look ahead, it beholds upon the horizon the first glowing rays of the Social Sunrise.”

Dr M’membe also emphasized the importance of solidarity among workers, both within Zambia and internationally. “The Socialist Party Zambia and the Trade Union Movement must be one today in celebration of Labour Day and pledge each other their mutual fidelity and support in every battle, economic and political, until the field is won and the Workers are strong and in control,” he said. “We are all one—all workers of all lands and climes. We know not colour, tribe, nor creed, nor sex in the Labour Movement. We know only that our hearts throb with the same proletarian stroke, that we are keeping step with our class in the march to the goal and that the solidarity of Labour will vanquish exploitation and Humanize the World.”

In conclusion, Dr M’membe urged Zambian workers not to lose hope, and to keep fighting for their rights. “Comrades, this is the day for Workers to think of the Class Struggle and the Ballot—the day for Labour to clasp the hand of Labour and girdle the globe with the International Revolutionary Solidarity of the Working Class,” he said. “It gets dark sometimes but the morning comes. Don’t lose hope, don’t give up!”

Of Mindless Spending Sprees By Our Councils……

By Prince Bill M. Kaping’a Political/Social Analyst

The other day, a political commentator observed that the decision by councils around the country to procure earth-moving equipment is ill-conceived. He asserted that this is a white elephant’s project likely to hit a snag any time soon and wondered why ZNS wasn’t simply being empowered with modern equipment or better still, awarded with contracts to work on feeder roads in our communities.

What do we make of this?

It seems we don’t learn from our mistakes as a nation. We are somehow “stiff necked” as legendary musician Bob Marley once put it in one of his songs. This is flabbergasting, indeed!

During the MMD regime for instance, government introduced manda mandas (hearses) from China under controversial circumstances. Are they still of any use to us today? They just worked for a while and vanished in thin air! Before long, we saw the much touted mobile clinics pounding our roads amidst pomp and splendour. They were procured at great cost to the nation. What happened to them? They are now marooned elsewhere waiting to be scrapped off!

And in a case of history ever seeming to repeat itself, the PF regime brought in ambulances and fire tenders at double or tripple the price by conniving with the suppliers. A senior government official actually got fired for dismissing the later as wheelbarrows! They were both acquired at astronomical rates. Where are they today? They’re destined to the scrap yard for one reason or another.

This time around we are witnessing councils trying to outdo each other to procure earth-moving equipment through the constituency development funds.

What is motivating our MPs or councils to go on a frenzy of this mindless spending sprees? Are they driven by the greed to chew commissions or indeed, enthusiasm to roll-out road works in their respective jurisdictions? Have they undertaken the neccesary due diligence viz-a-vis the cost of maintainance or repair? Do they have qualified personnel to undertake the work?

Imagine a council such as Kasama Municipal Council which has gone 9 months without paying its workers acquiring such equipment; wouldn’t they easily succumb to the temptation of diverting money meant for such a project towards salaries and wages?

We already have the Zambia National Service (ZNS) which has been undertaking road construction or maintenance around the country. Instead of the councils acquiring earth moving equipment which is likely to be written off in a matter of time, why can’t the state simply capacitate ZNS to enable them handle this Herculean task as opposed to reinventing the wheel since they already have the neccesary expertise and equipment? Mu Zambia namo!

Local Government Minister Hon. Gary Nkombo and Defense Minister Hon. Ambrose Lufuma, is this something you can consider looking into?

Create more decent jobs and put up stronger labour laws, Trade Unions urge Government

2

Trade Unions have challenged the Government to create more decent jobs and put up stronger labour laws as workers celebrated International Labour Day also known as May Day.

In the Copperbelt Province the main Labour Day event was held at Diggers Rugby Club in Nkana West where Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo was the guest of honour, gracing the occasion alongside trader union leaders.

The labour movement leaders recommended that in the Government’s quest to accelerate job creation; it should set up state owned industries in districts that will help absorb in the labour market the unemployed citizens, especially the young people.

Speaking on behalf of the Zambia Congress of Congress of Trade Union and FFTUZ, ZCTU First Deputy President Joseph Chewe further asked the government to deal with rampant casualisation.

Mr Chewe called on the government to address decent wages in the private sector, address the cost of living, stabilize the price of fuel and alleviate poverty.

The Mine Workers Union of Zambia President further asked the Government to quickly find a credible investor for the Mopani Copper Mines and Konkola Copper Mines (KCM).

“These jobs are being given to contractors and these contractors Honourable Minister are giving workers three months contracts, six months contracts, one year contracts and these jobs are of permanent nature. We demand that those jobs in the mining sector are given to people on a permanent basis. Casualisation must come to an end. Let’s give decent jobs to the people. The Honourable Minister is important to bring to your attention that the country is experiencing high unemployment and this is one of the key and most pressing issues that needs government attention,” Mr. Chewe said.

Guest of honour and Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo said a positive work culture and goal oriented mindset is needed among the employers and employees to improve productivity in the country.

Mr Matambo also warned companies in the province to immediately stop casualisation and give people permanent jobs.

On Job creation, the Copperbelt Minister said the government is working tirelessly to create jobs for the people both in the public and private sector and that this year more people will be employed in the private sector.

Meanwhile, Mr Matambo said very soon a pronouncement will be made on the matter of KCM and Mopani as talks have concluded adding that issues at Chambishi and shaft 28 in Luanshya will be dealt with soon as well.

“As Minister of Copperbelt I don’t support casualisation. I have come to learn that there are some organisations who are going to give contracts to employees as short as one month. They will go on when one month is finished to give another one month. I think that must come to an end. We must make sure that we respect the dignity of employees and give them permanent jobs so that they are able to plan,” Mr. Matambo said.

Speaking on behalf of the Zambia Federation of Employers, Harrington Chibanda appealed to the government to actively participate in the mineral value chain and deal with the issue of Taxes raised by various stakeholders in the country.

Meanwhile, Labour Day organizing committee chairperson Fewdays Bwalya said only 40 companies have participated at this year’s Labour Day celebration compared to 53 that participated last year.

Today is the 1st of May, International Workers Day, the day of labour and solidarity.

Dating back to the 1880s and born as a result of the worldwide struggle of workers for daily working hours, 1st of May is all the more important as workers come to well realise the importance of solidarity.

May 1 is marked as May Day, also referred to as International Workers’ Day and Labour Day in different countries across the world.

The Day commemorates the contributions of workers and the labour movement.

The International Labour Organisation theme for 2023 Labour Day is:”Stop the pandemic: Safety and health at work can save lives.”

Uniting Presbyterian Church reminds elected leaders of their duty to care for their constituents

Copperbelt’s Uniting Presbyterian Church – Evangelist Miniva Nonde Chila has reminded elected leaders not to abandon people in their wards and constituencies after elections.

Evangelist Chila of Mushili Congregation in Ndola said leaders should regularly visit their people and check on how they are doing.

She said true leadership is about caring for the people without segregation.

Evangelist Chila was speaking when Ndola’s Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Warren Mwambazi congregated at Uniting Presbyterian Church in Mushili, Ndola over the weekend.

She said Uniting Presbyterian Church is also looking forward to President Hakainde Hichilema visiting them in future as he comes to the Copperbelt Province regularly.

Evangelist Chila added that promotion of justice, peace and care for the people must be the hallmark of good leadership.

“Today we have been preaching on the need to follow God and to follow his instructions at all times. We are telling those elected to promote justice and care for the people. These are parents who should care for everyone without segregating. As leaders they should care for everyone and visit the people who elected them. Here at Uniting Presbyterian Church in Mushili, Ndola we are happy to be visited by the Member of Parliament. This is the first time a Member of Parliament is visiting our Church, we are grateful and humbled. Let the Member of Parliament continue visiting people like this. Even other leaders should visit people; they should not look at the same of the Church or community,” Evangelist Chila said.

In his remarks, Mr. Mwambazi encouraged women to form cooperatives in order to benefit from the Constituency Development Fund.

He also pledged his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises and hinted about re-contesting the Bwana Mkubwa parliamentary seat during the 2026 General Elections.

“Form cooperatives and benefit from Constituency Development Funds (CDF). The same way we are committed to Church activities is the same way we should be committed to CDF empowerment. Even in your church groups discuss CDF empowerment. We will only be happy if more people benefit from CDF. It is difficult to make promises but fail to fulfill how you will come back to ask for votes from the people. We want to come back, I don’t know about others. When I apply to come back you will be ticking that he brought good roads, water, schools and street lights plus markets. We want development like we promised you during election campaigns. We used to come early in the morning to knock on your doors for campaigns. Development will liberate us. We came here to encourage one another and to listen to the word of God. We do not segregate; we go to what you may call big or small churches. That is where our people are, that is where our power lies. We are trying to visit many churches despite time constraints,” Mr. Mwambazi said.

Mr. Mwambazi added. “For us, time and again, we will keep on engaging our people so that we update them on what we are doing and just to get feedback from them. As the leaders we know that amaka yaba mubantu and we will continue striving hard to do what the people want. On behalf of my family, I would like to thank the Presbyterian Church, Mushili leadership and indeed the entire membership for the love they showed and the gift when we worshiped together yesterday. As leaders we will continue seeking the face of God for him to lead us as we serve the people. Earlier today we had a community meeting at Ebenezer Assembly in Lupili ward where we discussed various issues that are affecting the residents.”

Cops Chew With Bosses; Roadblocks Can’t Stop!

When the New Dawn Administration just formed government, Home Affairs & Internal Security Minister Hon. Jack Mwimbu issued a decree outlawing any unnecessary checkpoints or roadblocks by the traffic police save for the permanent ones along the highway for security reasons. Of course, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and applauded the minister for finally unyoking the albatross around their necks that had been causing a lot of angst.

Roadblocks are nothing but a nuisance! Apart from causing unnecessary traffic jams on our already choked roads, they are fertile breeding grounds for corruption…….conduits for corruption! Must we honestly accept corruption as part of our livelihood?

Anyway, this directive was only observed for a while as the cops studied the situation. Would they be bursted while engaging in such illegalities? Would any of them be arraigned for corruption? As soon as the dust settled down, the police came back full throttle and devised other strategies of extracting bribes from motorists.

While the police in the Copperbelt have resorted to cruising around towns harassing motorists as they attempt to pounce on any suspected defective vehicles, their counterparts in Lusaka simply hibernate at the traffic lights to waylay would be offenders, and sometimes trap them at roundabouts.

Why do the traffic police continue to defy a government directive? Or is it a clear case of insubordination?

We’ve an answer……the traffic police simply share or chew the spoils if you like with their superiors, hence the flourishing of such activities! Reliable sources inform us the guys actually have what they call ‘ichilimba’ – a saving scheme whereby they’ve set aside specific days to collect money for themselves and their superiors including those in the highest echelons of the command.

While their counterparts in regular duties have to suffer through mundane meals of katapa and bitter impwa much of the time, it’s always T/bone for them. Money isn’t a problem for them. They are able to send their kids to private schools and boast of admirable fleets of cars and mansions everywhere! It is such inequality in police camps that start tempting some cops assigned to regular duties to start sharing their uniforms and ammunition with bandits so that they can make extra income at the end of the day.

If the New Dawn Administration is serious about nipping corruption in the bud, this is where they are expected to prove their mettle.
We are challenging the new Inspector General of Police and indeed the Anti Corruption Commission to consider taking keen interest in this matter. We can’t have a situation whereby institutionalized corruption should become the norm with men and women in uniform as the key players.

President Hakainde Hichilema urges workers to invest in the future during Labour day celebrations

4

President Hakainde Hichilema has emphasized the importance of investing in the future, urging beneficiaries of the 20 percent partial withdraw from NAPSA to carefully consider their investment options. The President commended the government’s decision to implement this initiative, which aims to help beneficiaries secure their financial future, as well as that of their children.

Speaking during the Labour Day Celebrations in Lusaka, President Hichilema stated that it was important to sensitise the beneficiaries on how best to invest their benefits. He also acknowledged the need to identify areas that may be giving people problems during the application process and address them accordingly.

In addition to job creation, the President has stressed the importance of enhancing the existing labour market. He expressed a desire to see businesses grow through investments and maximisation of the available resources. The President also noted that the wastage of public resources hinders economic growth, which, in turn, affects job creation.

President Hichilema cited the costs associated with operating the Presidential Gulfstream and purchasing high-powered executive vehicles for Cabinet Ministers as a considerable financial burden on the government. He has called for the responsible use of public funds, with a focus on creating sustainable economic growth and job opportunities.

The President also paid tribute to the workers of Zambia, commending them for their commitment to delivering quality services to citizens. Despite facing challenges in the course of their duties, the workers have performed exceptionally well, according to the President.

Labour Minister Brenda Tambatamba highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to harmonise the labour industry. She said the Ministry has also embarked on various Radio and TV programmes to sensitize players in the labour industry on the need for a harmonized work environment.

International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Officer Peneyambeko Munkawa urged the government to focus on poverty alleviation, social protection, and inequality by providing quality jobs. The Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE) President Mary Ngoma called on the government to implement policies that will allow for the creation of sufficient jobs in the country.

Finally, the Zambia National Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) President Blake Mulala called on the government to consider creating decent jobs.

These comments demonstrate a growing consensus amongst labour and industry leaders that job creation, harmonisation, and sustainable economic growth are key priorities for the government to focus on in the years ahead.

Sudan conflict rumbles on as military forces accuse each other of violating ceasefire

Sudan’s military and paramilitary forces have accused each other of violating a ceasefire agreement that had been extended for 72 hours. The fighting has been ongoing for three weeks since an internal power struggle erupted between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on 15 April.

Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands wounded in the conflict, which has also led to tens of thousands of people fleeing across the country’s borders.

The situation has prompted fears that the country could destabilise, leading foreign governments to evacuate their nationals. Talks have been scheduled but prospects for a resolution appear slim.

The conflict has derailed an internationally backed political transition aimed at establishing a democratic government in Sudan, where former autocratic President Omar al-Bashir was toppled in 2019 after three decades in power.

PF Mufulira district youth chairman accuses President Hichilema of neglecting crucial issues during his CB Tour

Bashi Promise, the new nickname for Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema coined by opposition Patriotic Frong (PF), has been criticized for his recent comments by the PF Mufulira district youth chairman. In a statement issued by PF Mufulira district youth chairman., Bashi Promise was accused of misplaced priorities, stating that the president was more concerned with demonizing his political opponents than addressing the pressing issues facing the country, particularly the situation with the KCM and Mopani mines.

According to the statement, the people of the Copperbelt Province were hoping to hear Bashi Promise’s plans for the future of the two mines. However, the president’s speech was more focused on attacking his political opponents, which, was not helpful to the miners and contractors who helped put Bashi Promise in power.

The statement also criticized Bashi Promise’s failure to provide medical supplies, leading to a rise in illnesses and death. Additionally, the high cost of living and essential commodities was making it impossible for people to feed their families, leading to destitution for many.

The statement also called on Bashi Promise to prioritize reducing the cost of living and creating employment opportunities for the youth. The youth chairman stated that the president should not worry about his political opponents, but instead focus on delivering on the expectations of the people.

The statement concludes by urging Bashi Promise to stop promoting violence and to prioritize the reduction of the cost of living and doing business for the people of Zambia. The chairman stated that Bashi Promise should focus on delivering results instead of campaigning, as his works will speak for themselves.

Selling Unharvested Maize Fields to Foreigners Threatens National Food Security, Says Northern Province Permanent Secretary

The selling of unharvested maize fields to foreigners has become a major concern for the national food security in Zambia. Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Bernard Mpundu, has warned that the act, which has become common in border districts, could lead to a severe shortage of food and cause people to suffer from starvation.

According to Mr. Mpundu, small-scale farmers in some districts are selling all their maize fields to unscrupulous businessmen. This trend is not only hurting the national food security but also putting the farmers at risk of asking for relief maize after selling all their produce to briefcase traders.

To address the issue, Mr. Mpundu urged district administrations to sensitize people who are in the habit of selling their unharvested maize fields to stop. He made the call during a courtesy call on Mbala District Commissioner, Annie Paul, at her office.

Commissioner Paul also urged people in the Zombe area to desist from selling their unharvested maize fields. She warned that if the trend continues, it could lead to a severe shortage of food, and the government may not be able to provide relief to all those affected.

To support the government’s national food security program, farmers from Lunzua East Camp Agriculture Committee have pledged to sell their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) rather than briefcase traders. The chairperson of the committee, Darius Simutowe, confirmed that farmers have been sensitized against selling their fields and are committed to supporting the government’s efforts to ensure food security in the country.

The selling of unharvested maize fields to foreigners has become a major concern for Zambia’s national food security. The government is taking measures to sensitize people against the practice and encourage them to sell their produce to the Food Reserve Agency. The government’s efforts, however, need to be supported by all stakeholders, including farmers and traders, to ensure that Zambia’s food security is safeguarded.
