HH’s Dogs Bite Esther Lungu– Is “Ubututu” a Factor?

28

By Kapya Kaoma

If you’re like me, you have a big reason to support President HH–his dogs (Anti Corruption Commission and Drug Enforcement Commission) are shamelessly swinging their tails at their biggest catch–Former First Lady Esther Lungu. For so long, in deep darkness these naked dogs dwelt until Bally gave them human meat–his political opponents. Didn’t the ACC/DEC question Esther Lungu when her husband was in POWER? Of course, they did, but as Lungu’s pets. Now it’s HH turn to command these dogs. When he shouts, “Kawalala,” his dogs run without asking why! Well if Bally’s dogs want to bite him, they are free to do so. The only problem is that they must report their catch back to Bally himself. And who bites the finger that feeds him?

The impounding of 15 Flats belonging to Former First Lady Esther Lungu is commendable. Only a foolish person can believe that someone who lived free on taxpayers’ cost for 7 years, married to a Cabinet Minister, and a professional lawyer for many years could build 15 Flats in Lusaka. Is it not long ago that corrupt PF failed to solve the mystery of 48 houses? Our President solved it–the nephew of his Finance Minister is the owner.

Despite allegedly being linked to obscene videos, we still have great respect for Madam Mary Chirwa, the Director General of Drug Enforcement Commission. Bally only picks the best. Who can question her integrity? She is not compromised to head DEC at all. Her ethical statement on the impounded vehicles in Lusaka, and Mrs. Lungu’s Flats was exceptionally sound. Aside from our Bally, nobody else could own a Lexus, Benz and Land Cruisers. The same with 15 Flats–the age of “cliques of thieves” is gone! Bally’s dogs should hunt them down.

Moreover, the 2.8 should report any neighbor who buys an expensive car to the ACC/DEC–aren’t they products of crimes? I don’t believe like Nakachinda that President HH’s “ubututu” makes him believe that he is the only person to exploit business opportunities in Zambia. On the contrary, he is the only Zambian to make it in the world of business.

That’s why his dogs must investigate South African businessman James Ndambo too. We only and only have one billionaire–Bally. If Ndambo wants to compete with our President, his dogs must bite. The Ndambo game is simple; win the hearts of poor Zambians with his millions or billions of dollars (for who knows how much is worth) to demean the most generous Bally. HH’s dogs must bite him–for only our President is entitled to build a mansion worth millions of dollars and possess high-end vehicles. As her honor the Vice President Nalumango told Parliament, President HH was a billionaire long before becoming President–thus to ask questions about his business practices is morally wrong.

I don’t believe Madam Lungu seized an opportunity to make money as First Lady at all. Who doesn’t know she is so kind as to do that which Bally did in a poor nation like ours? The same with Ndambo–who can outsmart Bally? President HH made money by selling government assets under President Chiluba. And who doesn’t know how clean the privatization process was? The clean President FTJ Chiluba, whose legacy our Bally recently praised can testify from the grave. As masses died and lost life-time savings, our President HH made money on their graves. For who becomes rich by feeling the pain of the poor? Only Bally, whose riches have been obtained on the graves of the masses. His businesses, business partners, and companies he holds shares in, are in the public domain.

I am upset that Ndambo wants to dethrone the President in Choma. Why go to Choma, the very stronghold of our clean President? President HH shouldn’t ignore this “South African businessman”. After all, is he not the only and only person who understands the world of business. Put Ndambo where he belongs–in prison or better send him into exile for eternity. Let your dogs prove the source of his wealth. Didn’t they just do so to you, and your clean UPND cadres? Zambians chose you for a reason–to make corruption history as long as it doesn’t affect you, my beloved President.

President HH, you know the tricks of the business, and now the tricks of power. Let pets bite Esther Lungu, bankrupt your opponents until you’re out of power. Then you, your family, and your dogs will join the dance as new dogs swing their tails to the new owner! It is the fight against corruption.

Nawakwi has warns Government against relying heavily on the pending IMF bailout

21

Opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) President Edith Nawakwi has warned the UPND led Government against relying heavily on the pending International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout package for the local economy recovery.

Ms. Nawakwi said the IMF package the Government is waiting for is not coming now and won’t improve the economic welfare of individual Zambians.

The economist and former Finance Minister in the MMD regime challenged the New Dawn government to come up with a plan that will improve the economy of citizens.

Featuring on Camnet TV’s National Matter, Ms. Nawakwi said many Zambians are going through financial distress.

“As a country we must accept that we are in the taffy and it appears to me that everybody is waiting for the IMF bailout. The country is heavily indebted. We are now in the poverty basket and I think for the past couple of months we are waiting for the IMF to come in and bail us out and when you are in that situation as a nation, I think we are ignoring some very very critical issues that are happening in families, in homes and those are issues of mental health arising from financial distress. You see that small businesses have folded, people are really stressed. They may not be protesting but you can see that they are hurting. When you ask the question as to how we are fairing, I think we are fairing very very badly and we need to accept that we have a problem and how are we going to resolve it,” Ms. Nawakwi said.

“I have been listening to many pundits discussing and it looks like the discussion is centred on the IMF bailout. As a country, I have not heard much from the public sector, from the government giving us an alternative, what if the IMF does not arrive with this famous package? What is going to happen to our country? What are we going to do? And these are serious questions and when you walk on the street people are hungry, people are really desperate to survive. You begin to think, to see traits of actual distress which can cause very bad injuries to people and the country as a whole,” she said.

Ms. Nawakwi continued:”You cannot have a country which puts all the eggs in one basket. I think for the entire eleven months of our colleagues being in office, we haven’t heard of an alternative development paradigm. Let me put it simply, a Zambian marshall plan. It is as though the IMP package is the saviour and everything that is required. That is not the case. The International Monetary Fund if we ever get that package, the way the numbers are going I can say with certainty that it is not coming in a few months, maybe in another two or three years because if you look at domestic debt, it is going in a different direction.”

“If you look at this, all the figures according to what I know. Having worked with the IMF I can say the famous package may not be walking in the next few months. I heard our President say that watch me by June (2022), read my lips and I am yet to read anything but the question that we need to ask ourselves as a nation. This package is meant for debt relief so that we pay our creditors. What is our programme that we Zambians have in place for my mother in Chinyinji, for my mother in Chama to put food on the table? That is the programme I am looking for from the Government and the Zambians. That is the programme that we Zambians need to sit and discuss a local martial plan. To get ourselves out of individual economic quagmire and get our nation out of abject poverty,” she said.

Ms. Nawakwi further observed:”Let us all agree and there is no debate about whether the Bretton Woods Institute was meant for bailing out international creditors. The IMF is not going to build a school. The IMF is not going to give us money for Agriculture or for fish ponds. Far from it, so, if you have a Minister of Finance whose only plan is based on’ well I am waiting for the package from Washington’. Then we are in trouble and I think that we need this open debate to discuss what the alternative measures as a nation should put in place since the IMF package is a farfetched idea. Even if it came it would not improve the economic welfare of someone in Misisi, or my relatives in Kalikiliki.”

Stakeholders in the health sector urged to be vigilant against recurrent outbreaks and epidemics

0

Zambia National Public Health Institute(ZNPHI) has advised stakeholders in the health sector to be vigilant in strengthening public health security if possible disease outbreaks are to be prevented.

ZNPHI Director General Roma Chilengi notes that Zambia has continued experiencing recurrent outbreaks and epidemics such as cholera, typhoid, COVID-19, Schistosomiasis, measles and other diseases that affect livelihoods.

Dr. Chilengi says that the impact from natural hazards such as floods, drought and environmental pollution among others has far reaching implications on public health systems, individuals and the country at large.

He said this today in Lusaka when he officiated at the Workshop for Risk Mapping of Public Health Hazards Using Strategic Tools for Assessing Risk (STAR) methodology, supported by the East, Central and Southern Africa-Health Community (ECSA-HC).

He noted that these hazards not only do they result in loss of lives but they also lead to social and economic catastrophe.

“The Ebola viral disease outbreak of 2014-2016 in West Africa and the COVID-19 pandemic have demonstrated to us how important these emergencies can be in almost all spheres of people’s livelihood.

“In this regard it is imperative for the country to adequately prepare for and be able to respond to any public health emergency that may arise, “ he said.

As part of strengthening the capacity for emergency preparedness and response systems, the ZNPHI in collaboration with various partners and line ministries is conducting risk profiling of public health threats in Zambia using the strategic Tool for Assessing Risks.

And World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative Nathan Bakyaita has commended the ZNPHI for organizing the Public Health Risk Assessment Workshop.

Dr. Bakyita noted that the negative consequences of any emergencies or disaster including that of the COVID-19 pandemic on communities and countries have continued to highlight the importance of all hazards risk management approach in all the emergency preparedness and response actions.

“The Strategic Tools for Assessing Risk (STAR) is offers a comprehensive easy to use toolkit and approach which can be used at national and subnational levels to rapidly conduct a strategic and evidence based assessment of public health risks for planning and prioritization of health emergency preparedness and disasters risk management activities,’’ he said.

The workshop is expected to tackle risk based health emergency planning and continued prioritization of risk informed actions to prevent, mitigate and recover from a health emergency.

Banks of Kafubu invaded as alleged unscrupulous people allocate themselves pieces of lands for residential plots

6

A land scum has been unearthed some unscrupulous people have invaded the banks of Kafubu river in Ndola by allocating themselves pieces of lands for residential plots.

Following Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Augustine Kasongo directive recently to get facts about the scum, a check by team of government officials from various departments revealed over 100 hundred houses coming up so fast.

Likewise, Mr. Kasongo has directed Ndola City Council and Water Resource Management Authority ( WARMA ) to immediately stop the illegalities surrounding the water body.

Mr. Kasongo said he is disappointed that his directive on the council not to be giving plots in river banks has still continued, while some people have taken the law into their own hands by allocating themselves pieces of land without following procedure.

“That’s not correct, this is what is putting government under unnecessary pressure. The rain season is just around the corner and will be running up and down. Such should not be tolerated,” Mr. Kasongo said.

And Jonathan Mwansa who was delegation leader has called for a stop to all the construction works along the river banks.

Dr. Mwansa said the risk involved in the building of houses in the recharge area for Kafubu river is not only to the risk of flooding but that of health in terms of sanitation.

Dr. Mwansa emphasised the need to protect the water body from contamination adding that it will also be hard to fight malaria as a country if people continue building in such areas.

“I think the recommendation colleagues, we have seen the dangers of housing people here. First and foremost we need to stop the building and reverse the damage that is being caused to this area,” Dr. Mwansa said.

Meanwhile, Regional Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU, George Akalemwa said allowing people to build on the river banks will mean more work and expenditure for government.

Mr. Akalemwa said it is cheaper to halt the developments than what will come out should the construction go ahead.

WARMA Acting Sub-Catchment Manager, Alex Kasonde added that the authority has already into action by giving stop orders to those that have build in the recharge zone.

“Protection of recharge zones is multi sectoral but all keys stakeholders so that we protect our water bodies,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ndola City Council through Lovemore Tembo, an Environmental Planner said the local authority is not aware of the development.

Mr. Tembo stated sometime back in March,2022, the council told the developers to stop but they that they continue to build with impunity

Tender bidding process for Mufulira-Mokambo road and Ndola-Mufulira road works ends

4

The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Ministerial Council says the process of engaging a contractor for the Mufulira-Mokambo road and Ndola-Mufulira road works has reached an advanced stage.

PPP delegation leader, Margaret Mudenda says the process of tender bidding has already closed, adding that evaluation of applications is currently under way.

Speaking when her team of PPP council members visited Mufulira District to check on developmental projects, Ms. Mudenda said government wants to fast track the process to ensure that a contractor starts working on the roads as soon as possible.

“This infrastructure is important because it connects us to the border and as we are working on building stronger relations with the Democratic Republic of Congo, we want to ensure that the road is in good condition, “she said.

Ms. Mudenda said people should not worry about the rainy season approaching as the Mokambo-Mufulira road is a short stretch that can be done on time.

The 70 kilometres stretch is a strategic economic road not only for Ndola and Mufulira towns, but for the entire Copperbelt Province and the nation at large.

“What is important is that the road will finally be done and we are focusing on the lasting solution to this road, “she said.

Ms. Mudenda said the delegation was on the Copperbelt Province to check on government projects in order to appreciate their current state and find solutions to complete them quickly.

She said in Mufulira, the team visited the Ndola-Mufulira Road as well as Mokambo Road.

And Mufulira District Administrative Officer,Zakeyo Kamanga said the residents of Mufulira are anxiously waiting for the two roads to be worked on as they have been in bad state for a long time.

Mr. Kamanga said it was gratifying to see government’s commitment to ensure that the two projects quickly take off.

Construction works on the 70 kilometres Ndola-Mufulira road during the previous PF regime cost about K701.7 million.

Zonal Census Coordinators undergoing training

0

About 1, 800 participants are currently being trained at Kambule Beit hall in Mongu as Western Province Zonal Census Coordinators for the 2022 census of population and housing.

Western Province Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary Richard Mulwanda confirms that the exercise is an important implementation process as it is second in the series of training aimed at adequately preparing field staff for the census exercise.

Speaking during the official opening of the ten days training, Mr. Mulwanda said the government is committed to conducting the census in line with the provisions of the statistics Act number 13 of 2018.

“ The data from the census is particularly important for the government because it provides information of all levels of administration such as national, provincial, district, constituency and the lowest administrative level-the ward, “he said.

The Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary pointed out some of the tremendous strides that the government has made towards undertaking the 2022 census of population and housing such as mapping and listing exercises, the pilot and post pilot census pre-test.

116 District Census Coordinators and 116 Information Technology (IT) officers who will train the zonal census coordinators have also undergone training.

Mr. Mulwanda has since urged the Zonal Coordinators to ensure that there is complete coverage of all the areas in the zones and enumerate each household.

And Western Provincial Regional Statistician Raphael Masangu disclosed that the Zonal Coordinators have been drawn from all the sixteen districts in Western Province as they are expected to train numerators in their respective districts.

Mr. Masungu said the only numerators based in respective districts will be considered.

The 2022 census will be the sixth census conducted in Zambia since 1969.

ZESCO to Commence the exportation of Electricity to Zimbabwe

25

Energy Minister Peter Kapala says ZESCO will next month commence with the exportation of 100MW electricity to Zimbabwe under a five years deal.

In a statement published on his Facebook page, Mr Kapala noted that power from the Kafue Gorge Lower will be exported to Zimbabwe and Namibia through contracts signed in the last few months.

He added that Zimbabwe is currently facing a critical shortage of power because of the local power shortfall which has been worsened by the depressed generation at Hwange and Harare thermal power stations, including the loss of one unit, that is unit 6, that produces 125MW at Kariba Power Station.

The Minister explained that Zimbabwe Power Company – ZESA’s power generation arm is currently producing 1 201MW at its five power stations against peak winter season demand of 2 200MW, and last week, the biggest power generation plant in Zimbabwe, Kariba South, was generating only 758MW against an installed capacity of 1 050MW while Hwange Power Station was generating 411MW against an installed capacity of 920MW.

“This has forced the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) to facilitate the creation of a group of intensive energy users to finance power imports from the region,” he said

And Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) Acting Managing Director Howard Choga told Zimbabwean media that the power imports were imminent.

“We signed power import deals with Zambia a long time ago, but we had not been getting electricity from that country because of cash flow challenges. Now, because we have prepaid, we expect this to be settled in the coming weeks and we will start receiving 100MW from Zambia. We have to prepay them a month before we receive the electricity,” he explained

Mr Choga added that the power import deal with ZESCO has a three to five-years tenure, as the negotiations with ZESCO were premised on Zimbabwe making pre-payments for the 100 MW, which will come from Kafue Gorge Lower and the condition precedent is that ZESA has to pay monthly deposits of USD 6.3 million to enjoy the facility.

He noted that the task of importing electricity from Zambia was led by a delegation to its subsidiaries namely, the energy generating company Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) and the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) and other subsidiaries such as the investment branch ZESA Enterprises (ZENT) and internet provider PowerTel Communications (Private) Limited.

“ZESA is the only electricity generator and supplier for the public grid which represents Zimbabwe in the Southern African Power Pool,” he said

Mr Choga noted that Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority, (ZESA) whose official name is ZESA Holdings (Private) Limited, is a state-owned company whose task is to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity in Zimbabwe.

Corruption levels worry govt.

19

Minister of Justice, Mulambo Haimbe has expressed concern with continued increase in the corruption levels in the country.

Mr. Haimbe has observed that despite putting various measures to fight the vice, corruption has become endemic such that the current policy, legal and institutional frameworks have been challenged.

He explained that there is need for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to come up with new reforms aimed at fighting the vice.

“As a country, we need to come together and see how we can re-strategise and win the fight against corruption in our country. We are here to ensure that we identify what are the drivers of corruption in our country and further suggest measures that can be put in place to ensure zero tolerance to corruption of all forms,” he said.

ZANIS reports that the minister was speaking when he officially opened the National Consultative Meeting on the revision of the National Policy on Anti- corruption in Lusaka today.

He noted that corruption is one of the major obstacles to sustainable development and is a danger to the country’s cultural heritage, natural resources and environment.

Mr. Haimbe further said the vice has negative effects especially on the vulnerable people in society who depend on government for provision of goods and services.

He added that graft is an impediment to economic growth, human development and perpetuates poverty and inequalities further depriving citizens of quality service delivery and undermines good governance.

Mr. Haimbe, however, said government is committed to fighting corruption, by revising the national policy framework to strengthen the legislation on ethics and integrity among others.

“Government stands ready to among others put in place a revised national policy framework on anti-corruption, support and strengthen initiatives, mechanisms and strategic partnerships aimed at ensuring that public assets and finances corruptly obtained are returned back to the country, “ he added.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General, Gilbert Phiri said corruption is non-negotiable, hence the ACC will ensure that it is eradicated  by making sure that corrupt individuals in both private and public organisations are promptly dealt with in accordance with the law.

Mr. Phiri said there is a need for having in place a policy that will be effective and strengthen anti-corruption regulations, prevention and education strategies.

Speaking at the same event, Transparency International Zambia Executive Director, Maurice Nyambe said Zambia has continued to face many different challenges in relation to the economy and governance, saying corruption remains one such challenge.

Mr. Nyambe has since called for strong collaboration among stakeholders in order to find sustainable solutions to the high corruption levels in the country.

“Government alone will not be able to successfully eradicate corruption, the successful anti-corruption war hinges on the will power and demonstrated commitment of all different stakeholders, “ he said.

President Hichilema instructs the Minister of Finance to request parliament to approve a supplementary budget of about K22 billion

8

President Hakainde Hichilema has instructed the Minister of Finance, Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane to request parliament to approve a supplementary budget of about K22 billion arising from financial prudence.

In a statement published on his official Facebook page, the President noted that this makes the 2022 budget circa K195 billion as opposed to K123 billion in the previous year.

He added that the extra generated revenue will be used to increase funding towards fertiliser support programme, dismantle arrears for suppliers and contractors, payment of retirees and construct more road.

“The resources have been allocated to benefit our citizens and generate more revenue as opposed to lavish lifestyles in private jets, VXs, and outright looting,” he said

President Hichilema said Zambia had resources and what was missing was a prudent management of resources.

“We therefore hope your Members of Parliament (MPs) will support the supplementary budget,” he stated

LCC working on a payment plan to clear the outstanding electricity bills in various markets

0

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it is working on a payment plan to clear the outstanding electricity bills in various markets run by the local authority.

LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba stated that the Local Authority is committed to addressing this challenge as it comes after the progression from ZESCO fixed account of electricity billing system to the current prepaid meter billing in the markets.

Ms Mwamba noted that the Lusaka City Council is aware on how some marketeers have been negatively affected because of the electricity debt that accumulated before the installation of prepaid meters.

“The Local Authority will ensure that the outstanding electricity bills for markets are settled within a shortest possible period of time,” she said

She added that the Council has taken over the payment of the electricity bills which was supposed to be paid by the marketeers through their Associations that were collecting money for the purpose of paying electricity bills.

Ms Mwamba said that Kaunda Square, Libala and Nyumba Yanga are among the markets that have been affected by the electricity debt.

“We therefore appeal to all the market-traders to accept the new ZESCO billing system,” she said

She stated that it’s the mandate of the a Local Authority to ensure that traders operate in a favourable environment for their business to thrive.

Ms Mwamba highlighted this in a press statement issued to the media on behalf of the Lusaka City Council (LCC).

178 Girls defiled in the first and second quarter of 2022 in Chipata

1

About 178 young girls have been defiled in the first and second quarter of 2022, in Chipata district, eastern province.

92 girls were defiled in the first quarter whilst 86 were defiled in the second quarter thereby, showing a decrease of six cases.

Zambia Police Eastern Province Community Services Coordinator, Emmanuel Chabamba says three convictions in court were captured by his office while 32 cases are still pending.

And speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Chipata yesterday, Superintendent Chabamba said his office also recorded two defilement cases of imbeciles under the same period.

Mr Chabamba added that under the same period, 10 rape cases and one conviction were recorded.

“A total of four unnatural offences involving one female and three boys were also captured by my office. We also recorded five cases of indecent assault on females while four were on young girls, “he said.

Mr Chabamba said under the first quarter of this year, 92 defilement cases were recorded with five convictions and 28 cases still pending.

He said his office recorded 17 rape cases with one defilement case and 12 indecent assault cases of which seven were on seven young girls, two cases on young boys and three on grown females.

Mr Chabamba has urged people in the district not to settle cases involving defilements of young girls outside court or withdraw Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases.

He said cases of nature must be left to the law enforcers so that justice may prevail so that offenders can be punished.

Those Cruel Videos of Mary Chirwa, it is extremely cruel to circulate such videos

21

By Fred M’membe President of the Socialist Party

Seeking morality, justice or whatsoever without compassion is cruelty. I don’t personally know Mary Chirwa – the director general of the Drug Enforcement Commission – and I don’t know how she looks like. But if the videos circulating on social media are truly hers then she has been cruelly betrayed by someone she trusted and shared a very intimate relationship with.
This type of betrayal of a relationship of intimacy is worse than unreliability or deception, worse than many acts of harm. It is a special sort of violation, one that jolts against the background of what seemed to be a relationship of deep trust with particular strong expectations of loyalty and intimacy.

Betraying intimate trust requires that trust is given. A relationship of intimacy builds security and lowers normal protections. Many, sometimes for the first time in their adult life, feel they no longer are travelling the dusty roads alone. The intimate secrets of our heart, body can be shared, respected and honoured. When our partner attacks us at this deep level, we tend to see this as disloyalty and betrayal, for it is very difficult to withstand attacks that are directed against one’s self-image at a very deep level.

For whatever reason, transgression, it is extremely cruel to circulate such videos. There are more humane ways of dealing with differences or hurts.

Why are some humans so cruel to others? Where does this behaviour come from and what purpose does it serve?

“Humans are the glory and the scum of the universe,” concluded French philosopher Blaise Pascal in 1658. Little has changed. We love and we loathe. We help and we harm. We reach out a hand and we stick in the knife.

Someone who gets pleasure from hurting or humiliating others in this way is a sadist. And they enjoy it. But why should human beings be so cruel to each other? And how do we justify such acts of sheer inhumanity?

The conventional explanation is that people are able to do terrible things to other people only after having dehumanised them and start to see them as objects without the right to dignity, or even life itself.

Whoever circulated those videos is ready to see Mary dead because if she is not strong she can commit suicide. Throughout history, people have committed all kinds of cruel, degrading, and evil acts toward other people. Many believe that for cruel acts to be even possible, the victims must first be dehumanised by the perpetrators. But is this lack of empathy always at the heart of human cruelty? When one publishes or circulates such videos he is thereby denying Mary’s humanity.

This lack of empathy has always been at the heart of human cruelty. Cruelty emerges when something is wrong with a person’s empathy circuit. A cruel act is generally designed to provoke an emotional reaction from its recipient – meaning that its perpetrator.

State House says President Hakainde Hichilema will not act on Mary Chirwa’s alleged sex scandal

30

State House says President Hakainde Hichilema will not act on Mary Chirwa’s sex scandal.

Presidential Spokesperson Anthony Bwalya said President Hichilema will not spend time to act on Ms. Chirwa’s nude videos because he is busy focusing on job creation.

Speaking on Hot FM’s Breakfast Show Wednesday Morning, Mr. Bwalya said Ms. Chirwa has a left to do and should not be detracted.

“Those are allegations and the President is busy with the job creation agenda. We want Zambians to be discussing what we are doing here in Kalumbila and not those allegations,” Mr. Bwalya said.

He added, “the President asked me to assure the Zambian people to focus on how many jobs this government is creating. This morning, we are off to Kaleni Hills for the launch of the Pineapple Processing Plant which has been dead for forever, that is what is important,” he said.

Pressed further on the criminal nurture of the videos, Mr. Bwalya said Ms. Chirwa is doing a fantastic job in fighting corruption and recovering lost property and her enemies are not happy with her.

“Look, Mary has a job to do and let’s allow her to focus on her job,” Ms. Chirwa said.

Yesterday, Steamy videos containing obscene materials showing a woman believed to be Director General of the Drug Enforcement Commission Mary Chirwa have emerged.

The videos show a woman in a room fondling with her genitals who bears remarkable to Mrs Chirwa. It is unclear when the videos were recorded and released.

The videos are now circulating in a number of WhatsApp blogs with many bloggers expressing disgust at her conduct. Others have already called for her immediate resignation and called on President Hakainde Hichilema to sack her.

Government lift a two-week suspension slapped on Chinese owned copper mining firm

3

The Government through the Ministry of Labour has provisionally lifted a two-week suspension of operations slapped on a Ndola-based Chinese-owned copper mining firm called Macrolink Resources Limited.

Minister of Labour Brenda Tambatamba earlier in July, 2022 suspended operations at Macrolink Resources Limited during a visit to the mine site over poor safety and living conditions at the workers quarters located in the Mwekera area off the Ndola-Mufulira Road.

Ms. Tambatamba and a team from the Labour Department were not happy with the state of sanitation facilities, sleeping rooms at the workers quarters, lack of qualified human resource personnel and failure to have union representation at the mining firm.

After Tuesday’s inspection by a team led by Copperbelt Province Assistant Labour Commissioner Charles Muwowo, the Labour Department announced that operations at Macrolink Resources can resume.

Mr. Muwowo said he was impressed with the improved sanitation facilities, opening of a kitchen unit, the signing of a recognition agreement with the Mine Workers Union of Zambia (MUZ) and the hiring of qualified human resource personnel.

Exif_JPEG_420

Copperbelt Province Assistant Labour Commissioner told the management to recall the over 100 workers sent home following the suspension of operations.

Mr. Muwowo challenged the mining firm to continue improving the plight of workers in relation to safety and living conditions at the employee’s quarters.

He added that workers at Macrolink Resources Limited must actively get involved in facilitating a safer and good working environment because they are the ones who are directly affected.

“We would like to encourage the workers and management to continue working together for the sake of this investment and job creation. From the Department of Labour aspect, following the tour that we have done together with colleagues from the media, workers compensation, Napsa and other government agencies that are here we can say that we are happy with what has been done so far. Especially from the ablution blocks, the shower rooms and the kitchen. From the rooms we still insist that you improve on mattresses in all the rooms,” Mr. Muwowo said.

“I know we cannot do everything at a go. It is a process. It is continuous improvement so after the tour I have done consultation with the Labour Commissioner at our head office and from our discussions we are now making a decision to temporally lift the suspension. I am using the word temporally because there are still one or two things that need to be done especially in the kitchen. We also need to address the issue of mattresses. Then workers have raised issues of mine safety with regards to protective clothing when they go underground. Our plea is to do the right thing by procuring the right protective clothing because we saw those two miners who came from underground wet. Meaning that the material you have given them is not appropriate. So that is very urgent and this temporal lifting of the suspension is meant for you to address these concerns. Otherwise we are happy for the cooperation you have shown,” Mr. Muwowo said.

Macrolink Resources Commercial Manager Lucas Wang promised that management will continue improving the living and working conditions for the over 100 workers.

Mr. Wang acknowledged that the working and living conditions at Macrolink Resources Limited were not perfect.

“This improvement we have made is not the end for us. This is just a start. From here and from now we will do our best,” Mr. Wang said.

Some workers told journalists that Macrolink should continue improving the plight of workers in relation to safety and living conditions at the quarters.

Others said beside safety and living conditions at the quarters, their management should improve conditions of service.

“We are just appreciating the improvements we have seen. This is a good start and we want the improvements to continue as we are working,” Raphael Ngoti told the delegation.
