Power Dynamos Fail to Reclaim Third Place

0

Power Dynamos failed to return to the top four today following a 0-0 home draw against Green Eagles at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Eagles were the first to have a taste on goal in the second minute when Amity Shamende’s shot was collected by Power goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga.

But Power had the lion’s share of chances in the opening half starting with Benson Sakala’s 7th minute shot that went wide.

Then, Godfrey Ngwenya sent his 28th minute effort high, and a couple of minutes later, Kennedy Musonda’s attempt was saved by Eagles goalkeeper Kenneth Mwaanga.

Power then had the woodwork to thank in the 70th minute when Shamende saw his penalty kick hit the beam and the ball was instantly cleared away by the Power backline.

Eagles were awarded the penalty after Biston Banda fouled Eagles striker Emmanuel Mukosha.

The result sees Power stay put at number five on 36 points, one point behind fourth  placed Buildcon and a further two points adrift of Forest  Rangers who stayed third after Wednesday’s 1-0 away loss at relegation fighting Lumwana  Radiants.

And staying on the relegation angle, Green Buffaloes beat Young Green Eagles 1-0 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka to ease their demotion woes.

But Buffaloes stay inside bottom four relegation zone at number 16 on 26 points and have five points more than defending FAZ Super Division champions Nkana who are just below then in second from last on 21 points.

Buffaloes are now a point behind 15th placed Lumwana Radiants, Napsa Stars and Indeni who are all tied on 27 points while Young Eagles are just ahead of the latter at number 12 on 28 points.

Minister of Chiefs and Traditional affairs, Lawrence Sichalwe, says the subsidies and wages were for four unfunded months in the period between 2016 and 2019.

ZANIS reports that Mr Sichalwe disclosed this during a media briefing in Lusaka today, adding that the funds were released to the Ministry after approval of the supplementary budget by parliament in the current session.

“In this regard, my ministry has engaged the respective royal establishments through the relevant provincial administration to ensure necessary documents are submitted to facilitate payments’’, said Mr Sichalwe.

Mr Sichalwe explained that the Ministry has paid outstanding claims amounting to over 1.4 Million kwacha to Chief’s Retainers for various cases.

Mr Sichalwe who is also Chawama Law Maker, has however, appealed to traditional leaders to be non-partisan ahead of the August 12, 2021, general elections.

“Chiefs are responsible for promoting unity among subjects as opposed to being biased towards political party interests,” Mr Sichalwe advised.

He stressed that if traditional leaders take a partisan stance, they may threaten the peace among their subjects in their respective chiefdoms.

“For instance if a Chief takes a partisan position, this means that he will compromise the reconciliation process over his subjects who belong to different political parties in his chiefdom,” he lamented.

The Minister added that traditional rulers must not be tempted to engage in politics, but must embrace all courtesy calls due to them.

“They will certainly receive various political leaders in their chiefdoms as they try to sell their parties to citizens,” he said.

2

Minister for National Development and Planning, Alexander Chiteme says government attaches great importance to Strengthening Climate Resilience in the Kafue Sub Basin (SCRICA) projects.

Mr Chiteme said this is because the climate resilience projects have a direct bearing on improving the livelihoods of the vulnerable.

She said it is the desire of President Edgar Lungu’s administration to see that the vulnerable people in society benefited from pro-poor programmes.

Mr Chiteme said he was in Chibombo district to see how vegetables grown by communities in the area could be aggregated to ensure that they do not go to waste.

He further observed that government intends to partner with MKP, an organisation that intends to aggregate vegetables for farmers so that they do not go to waste.

ZANIS reports that Mr Chiteme was speaking in Chibombo during a joint ministerial tour of SCRICA projects, with Central Province Minister, Sydney Mushanga.

And Mr Mushanga has disclosed that over 36,000 households have benefited from SCRICA projects in Chibombo district, Central Province.

He has since urged beneficiaries of the sub-projects to ensure that SCRICA project leaves indelible marks on their economic activities.

‘’We need to ensure that lessons learnt from SCRICA are not only sustainable, but also shared with future generations in order to cushion the adverse effects of climate change,” he said.

Speaking earlier, Chibombo District Commissioner (DC), Catherine Chilonda said the district is in collaboration with a local partner, MKP farms who had benefited from the SCRIKA project under the matching grant category.

Ms Chilonda said the farm will act as an aggregator of most agricultural produce coming from community beneficiary groups and also link community groups to the market.

A Direct Response to Field Ruwe’s Write Up on Dr. Nevers Mumba

22
By Rev. Walter Mwambazi
So, today I read an article written by the renowned writer on his series he calls
“Convicts and Frauds”. I would not have responded under ordinary circumstances but then, with what I know about Dr. Mumba and this write up, it cannot go unanswered.
The write up featured yesterday in the Lusaka Times under the above mentioned title and is a series in which he has been reviewing the various candidates for the upcoming elections in August. As is already known, Dr. Nevers Mumba is standing as the New Hope MMD candidate for the coming elections.
Unfortunately, as he wrote his article, he applied the classic strategy of misinformation which is a renowned system used to push “lies” coated with “truth”. This is part of the many ways used by various groups to discredit another. In this case the lies were hidden by a clever opening in which some truth was mentioned here and there but then, no matter how good medicine may be, if it contains 1% strychnine it is still poisonous and will kill a man!
This is the case with Mr. Ruwe’s article and so let me set the record straight…

Prosperity Gospel

Anyone who watched “Zambia Shall Be Saved” for all those years we did know for a fact that Dr. Mumba has never preached a prosperity message, not as far as I have known him. He is personal friends with many so called prosperity teachers, but he has never espoused the doctrine at all. Instead I have known him as a “fire and brimstone” preacher that preaches the classic gospel of sin and repentance!
So, I do not know where Mr. Ruwe got this one from – it is an untruth

Vice Presidency

It was not “out of the blues” that Dr. Mumba became vice-president but as a result of a track record that began with his stance against the corruption that was evident during the Chiluba regime in the late 90s. As everyone knows, he first formed the National Citizen’s Coalition whose aim was to provide a platform to counter the toxicity that was becoming obvious. This had to be changed to a political party because those in charge wanted it that way and pressured this move.
So, when Mwanawasa become president, many talks and conversations took place between the two and many who brokered the deal. Mwanawasa is on record indicating that he was very happy with the choice and wanted to leave the party and presidency in the hands of Dr. Mumba and would only run one term.

Outshining President Mwanawasa

Again, this is an untruth. Everything that Dr. Mumba did was sanctioned by President Mwanawasa and again, this is on record. It is unfortunate that from the day that Dr. Mumba became Veep, there were some within the corridors of power that did not like this and so worked tirelessly to have him removed.
The long and short of it is that this plan worked. So, Dr. Mumba was relieved of his duties. However, many do not know that Mwanawasa and Dr. Mumba reconciled later on.

Abuse of Authority Charges in Canada

I am very surprised that a journalist of Field Ruwe’s caliber would openly lie. This case was handled in court and a judgment is on record in the courts of Zambia exonerating Dr. Mumba from all charges. There was no fraud committed and was an attempt at the time to discredit Dr. Mumba and the MMD seeing that they had exited from power. It took Dr. Mumba and his lawyers 7 years to be cleared.
In short, he was not found guilty.
Now Mr. Ruwe writes as if Dr. Mumba is guilty. That is not expected from a man of his standing and stating such untruths in the media may lead to libel in the form of defamation of character by lying so brazenly. So, let it be on record, Dr. Mumba won the case.

Conclusion

Field Ruwe states that he does his homework but then I honestly wonder which homework he did when it comes to Dr. Mumba choosing to state untruths “ad hominem”. At least let him do proper research before writing these things.
I can only imagine where his series will lead and who he shall finally be endorsing, which for me shall prove the aim of writing such lies in the first place.

He said it is important that his subjects understand safe ways of using electronic transactions as it is the most efficient way of carrying out financial transactions.

” I am calling on you the Bank of Zambia to come and educate our women and youths to have knowledge on mobile money transactions. We are now in the new world of technology which needs everyone to understand how to use mobile money,” he said.

COVID-19 vaccine is safe-Makebi

5

Government says it has put in place a robust pharma covigilance system to ensure that it closely follows up any side effects from COVID-19 vaccines.

Eastern Province Minister, Makebi Zulu says the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective as indicated by the Minister of Health, Jonas Chanda.

ZANIS reports that Mr Zulu said this in a speech read on his behalf during the official launch of the COVID-19 programme in Eastern Province by Provincial Permanent Secretary, Veronica Mwiche,

Mr Zulu said the Ministry of Health is continuously monitoring any reported safety concerns associated with COVID-19 vaccinations.

“We note that in Africa, the majority of events reported are commonly accepted side effects such as pain and sight swelling at the site of injection, rather than severe Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI),” he said.

Mr Zulu said the Ministries of Information and Health will work closely with other stakeholders to ensure that accurate and timely Information on the COVID-19

vaccination programme is provided to the members of the public.

He noted that members of the public need to be well informed about the vaccine to avoid rumours, myths and misconceptions.

Eastern Province Health Director (PHD), Gideon Zulu said the province recorded 6,405 COVID-19 positive cases from a total of 67,914 cases conducted.

Dr Zulu said out of the number of positive cases recorded in the last one year, 365 were health workers depicting 14.8 percent among workers that were tested.

“I am therefore delighted that we have received this first batch of the vaccine and the first target group will be health workers, as we prepare to roll out to the other priority groupings,” he said.

“Let me emphasize that the vaccine is only an additional factor in terms of COVID-19 prevention. The five golden rules with regards to the COVID-19 prevention should still be adhered to and these include masking up, observing social distancing, washing your hands regularly with soap or use a hand sanitizer, avoiding unnecessary overcrowding and seeking medical help if ever you experience any symptoms,” he said.

Meanwhile, Senior Chief Nzamane of the Ngoni Speaking people of Chipata district encouraged the people in Eastern Province to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Government has brought us this vaccine so that the spread of the COVID-19 is reduced. Let us all ensure that we get vaccinated for us to stay safe,” Senior Chief Nzamane said.

Meanwhile, Mr Sinkala said government is also working on a number of roads in the area.

He said the Chiawa- Mugulamano and Kabwadu-Chiawa roads are some of the roads that are being worked on.
