National Assembly staff urged to be professional.

Clerk of the National Assembly Cecilia Mbewe says all her staff uphold the public service ethics and professionalism to enhance performance as they execute their duties.

Ms Mbewe has therefore directed senior staff members to ensure that they create awareness to their subordinates on the ethics under public service.

The Clerk of the National Assembly made the remarks in Chongwe today when she closed a two day workshop for senior management staff on Ethics in the Public Service.

She further said the training workshop will promote the dissemination of verified information and promotion of non-partisanship in the line of duty.

“The training workshop will enable parliament staff to refrain from spreading grapevine information and peddling rumours.

“ The workshop targeted the Heads of Department as they are key in the implementation of the code of ethics and can trickle down information to their subordinates,” she explained.

And Minister of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary for Administration Ronald Simwinga stated that the training on ethics was essential to the national assembly as the country heads to the general elections.

Dr Simwinga pointed out that after August 12, the National Assembly may have new members of parliament who will need to be guided on the public service code of ethics.

He underscored that enlightening senior management on public service ethics will enable workers at the national assembly to preserving and maintain confidentiality of certain information.

“As Zambia goes to the polls, Parliament is likely to receive new members and may not be privy to public service code of ethics and this training will enable staff to enlighten the new members on public service management ethics and confidentiality,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Zambia Security Intelligence Services Deputy Director General Edith Mwenya states that the training workshop will enhance loyalty, professionalism and discipline among workers at the national assembly.

Ms Mwenya expressed optimism that the training will also see the emphasis on the safeguarding of national security as it is top of the national agenda.

She further called on all public service workers to safeguard classified information by exercising high levels of confidentiality.

Yesterday, Secretary to Cabinet Simon Miti appealed to the National Assembly Management to consider introducing performance based management contracts in order to enhance quality service delivery.

Dr Miti, during his opening remarks, explained that the National Assembly should take a leaf from the Executive that has introduced performance management based contracts at Permanent Secretary level and being cascaded to directors’ levels.

the Secretary to Cabinet underscored that performance management contracts are key in the evaluation of staff for either promotions or demotion.

Nkana Drop to Second From Bottom

0

Coach Kelvin Kaindu’s departure has not helped Nkana after they lost 1-0 away in a bottom three relegation clash at Lumwana Radiants on Sunday.

The defeat comes three days after Kaindu was sent on leave by the 12-time champions following a spate of poor results after collecting just one point from their last six league games.

It was seven games without a league victory by full-time today under caretaker coach Kaunda Simonda away in North-Western Province where Emmanuel Manda’s 17th minute goal made the difference.

Nkana trace their last league win to February 4 when they beat Nkwazi 2-0 away in Lusaka.

The result saw Nkana drop from 16th to second from last at number 17 in the bottom four relegation zone and are ten points ahead of Kitwe United who beat them 1-0 away on April 14.

Lumwana’s win saw them leap two places  to 15th on 23 points, two points more than Nkana and one ahead of  Green Buffaloes drop to 16th after they were bumped from that spot.

Nkana now have thirteen league games in which to save themselves since they bounced back to the FAZ Super League for the second time in 2010.

Meanwhile, in the top four race, Forest Rangers rebounded from last Thursday’s 1-0 home loss to struggling Napsa Stars to beat visiting fellow continental spot chasers Power Dynamos 2-0 in Ndola.

Power defender White Mwanambaba turned the ball into his own net in the 12th minute and Yvan Echaba cemented the 3 pints in the 82nd minute.

Forest are back at number three from fourth and are now one point behind second placed Zanaco on 38 points from 24 and 23 matches respectively.

But Forest are eight points adrift of leaders Zesco United who have two games in hand.

Power drop from third to fifth position on 35 points.

And in Lusaka, Nkwazi dented Red Arrows mini-revival following a 2-0 Lusaka derby home win at Edwin Emboela Stadium

Bernard Kumwanda converted two penalties in the 37th and 90th minutes to see Nkwazi gather 33 points and nestled at number ten.

Arrows are just above Nkwazi at number nine and also on 33 points, after their two-match good run in which they picked a draw and a win, was ended on Sunday.

Indian SMEs urged to partner with Zambian SMEs

7

Zambian High Commissioner accredited to India Judith Kapijimpanga has advised Indian Small and Medium Enterprises ( SMEs ) to partner with their Zambian counterparts for benchmarking.

Ms Kapijimpanga praised the Indian government over the growth of the SME sector which is contributing effectively to the growth of the economy.

The High Commissioner says as SMEs are the engines where large corporations emerge from, therefore Zambia is benchmarking from the growth path of the Indian SME sector for jobs creation.

Ms Kapijimpanga said this when she officiated at the SMEBIZZ Entrepreneur’s Award 2021 in New Delhi, India.

She further invited the business community to invest in Zambia because of political stability, peace and democracy.

Ms. Kapijimpanga said Zambia had investment guarantees and security, abundant natural resources presenting an excellent investment and trade opportunities.

She said the country had a private sector driven Government Economic Policy in place and attractive investment incentives.

Zambia and DR Congo to create a trade center in Mwense

4

A free trade centre is earmarked for establishment at the new Luapula Border between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

ZANIS reports that Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa says the trade centre which will be created at Chalwe in Mwense District along the Kasomeno-Mwenda toll road and border crossing under construction, will bring sanity in cross -border trading.

“ An investor has already expressed interest in investing in a special economic and trade zone that will change the way crossing border trading is conducted, “ he said.

The Minister was speaking when he undertook a benchmarking trip to Kasumbalesa to appreciate the challenges associated with informal trading.

Mr. Chilangwa who was accompanied by his Permanent Secretary Charles Mushota and MANSA Mayor Emmanuel Chungu said Kasumbalesa will provide lessons in the organization of the new trade zones.

“ Cross border traders will conduct business in a non-congested, serene and conducive environment as opposed to the current situation at Kasumbalesa, “ he said.

The Chalwe free trade zone will resonate well with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement Area (AfCFTA).

Mr. Chilangwa added that the trade zone will be developed into a world class regional hub for logistics, trade, finance and manufacturing support services.

Zambia is among African countries which have appended their signatures to free trade agreement and duty-free trading of goods and services across borders despite the COVID-19 pandemic and other teething problems.

The new market, created under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement is estimated to be as large as 1.3 billion people across Africa, with a combined gross domestic product (GDP) of $3.4 trillion.

This has a potential of lifting up to 30 million Africans out of extreme poverty, according to the World Bank.

And Mr. Mushota has directed the Mwense town council to take benchmarking trips and engage with their Chililabombwe counterparts on how best they can plan for the new border crossing.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chungu is confident that the Mansa Municipal Council will finalize modalities for collaboration with the Lubumbashi City Council in the DRC.

Women urged to join politics.

Women from all walks of life have been called upon to fully take part in politics in order to contribute to the social and economic development of the country.

Ms Christabel Kalasa of Chilubi district in Northern Province, observed that the government has created a favorable environment for both women and men to participate freely in politics without intimidation.

Ms Kalasa , who is the aspiring candidate for Chilubi Constituency, said as the country heads to the August 12th General Elections, women should stand up and be adopted by political parties of their choice so that they become part of the decision makers.

In a phone interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Ms Kalasa was quick to mention that the 5050 gender parity will be attained only if women are willing to compete favorably with men.

“This year as we head to August 12, I urge all women to participate fully in the elections from adoption process to voting. I am currently seeking adoption on the ruling party’s ticket.

“ Therefore others should take a leaf from me and Iris Kaingu ( aspiring candidate for Mwandi Constituency, Mwandi District, Western province) we are so passionate and where there is development in any given country there is a woman behind,” she emphasized.

The Chilubi aspiring candidate also called on the government and its stakeholders to put up massive infrastructure development in the district to spur tourism.

She explained that Chilubi has the tourism potential which can only be harnessed when numerous lodges and hotels are built in the area.

Ms Kalasa further called on the government to consider dividing the constituency into two and empower farmers to grow paddy rice in the Chilubi swamps.

Currently, women represent only 17 percent of the members of parliament against the 83 percent which is taken up by male representation.

Keep Zambian languages alive- Mihova

9

Zambia Overseas Christian Fellowship (ZOCF) based in the United Kingdom has come up with an initiative of teaching Zambian languages online to help Zambian families that have moved to the UK stay connected to their culture.

And Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Lieutenant General Paul Mihova (Rtd) has said it is important for Zambian Youths based in the Diaspora to learn their mother tongue, as it plays a key role in preserving their culture and tradition and cultivating their national identity.

High Commissioner Mihova

Meanwhile, ZOCF Chairman Dr. Maybin Muyeba hopes that by giving youths the connection to Zambian culture, they will feel more comfortable with their dual nationality and ultimately become more happier confident adults.

“In the diaspora today, we have quite a large and growing population of young people whose parents/grandparents left Zambia many years ago. Often, the youths find it challenging to identify themselves as Zambians because they cannot speak any Zambian language. This initiative by ZOCF will help restore the lost identity and pride to these youths. I encourage you all Zambians in the UK to support this initiative,” said the High Commissioner.

The High Commissioner said learning Zambian Languages, alongside the language of the host country, is not only a basic right of Zambian youths, also enriches their lives and develops their character.

“I appeal to all parents in the Zambian community in the United Kingdom and Ireland to keep alive the Zambian language in your homes. Parents, do all you can to ensure that your children learn Zambian Languages at an early stage, he said.

Dr. Maybin Muyeba

And Dr. Muyeba said that youths knowing their mother-tongue helps them access their Zambia identity, gives them confidence, and help them communicate more effectively.

“We had noticed a gap in our youths as far as tradition, language and some Zambian cultural values. The ZOCF Youth department came up with the idea of wanting to teach local languages and Zambian cultural values through those languages. One other reason raised by the youth was that when they travelled to Zambia, they would feel at home being able to speak a local language apart from English,” he said.

Dr. Muyeba further said ZOCF is working with qualified UK Secondary School teachers to help them with lesson plans, timetabling and the syllabus. He explained that the lessons would be held on online platforms such as zoom and Teams and were open to other nationals who wanted to learn Zambian languages.

Dr. Muyeba furthermore said that lessons were £1 but parents were free to pay more if they wanted.

“Our aim is to deliver at least 3 or more languages to our Youth so that they can write, understand and speak a few words confidently here in the UK and be able to find friends back in Zambia who are local and speak vernacular languages for them to practice.”

Meanwhile ZOCF Youth coordinator Luwi Luwaya said speaking a Zambian language will help many young people in the diaspora forge their own identities in Zambia and as Zambians.

“I lived in Zambia as a child and when I lived there speaking a local language wasn’t encouraged, especially at school. This was the same sentiment shared by many of my Zambian friends living in the UK, we cannot speak our languages, or can only speak the very basics. In all honesty, it was only when I visited Zambia in 2019 that I realized how important speaking a local language is in the day-to-day life of Zambians,” she said.

Ms. Luwaya sadly said “I remember getting into a minibus and the bus conductor speaking to me in about 3 different local languages before he realized myself and my sister could not understand him. It was quite embarrassing and a big reminder about the separation that happens when you cannot speak a language from your own country and how vital it is when trying to navigate the country independently as a young adult. Many other youths and I want to stay connected to Zambia, whether it is through business, through family ties, through travel and exploration, we have a need to learn enough to be able to communicate well,” said Ms. Luwaya.

She said to know more about why young Zambians in the UK want to learn Zambian languages, please view ZOCF YOUTHs Instagram live videos:

Kansanshi started life with Chambeshi on Saturday with a 1-0 away win over KYSA 1-0 and are currently second on the Division 1 table tied on 46 points with Konkola Blades after 24 and 23 games played respectively.

Blades were not in league action this weekend due their ABSA Cup semifinal commitment on Saturday that they lost 4-0 to Zesco United at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Ngonga Quits Power Dynamos

Veteran Power Dynamos striker Alex Ngonga has left the Kitwe giants.

Power confirmed yesterday that Ngonga had voluntarily requested to be released by the Arthur Davies club whom he first joined in 2009 to 2015 and later rejoined them in 2017 after a brief spell at Gabonese club CF Mounana.

“Club Chief Executive Officer, Happie Munkondya explained that the player exercised his right of termination in accordance with the provisions of football laws governing players’ contracts. He went on to explain that the club management reviewed the request and agreed to part on mutual separation, in the interest of the Club and for the furtherance of the player’s football career,” Power said in a statement.

Chingola pollution victims debate compensation package(updated)

17

Almost half of the over 2000 victims of the 2015 pollution case blamed on Konkola Copper Mines in Chingola have started receiving compensation packages from mine owners Vedanta Mineral Resources.

The claimants are receiving compensation between K50 000 and K40 000after the matter was settled out of court earlier in January this year.

Those receiving belong to the southern part of the area affected by the pollution. These include Shimulala, Hellen, and Hippo Pool and were represented by United Kingdom based law firm Leigh Day.

Those from the northern part that comprise of Fitobaula, Fikolongo and Kamuchanga are yet to be compensated because the law firm representing them Hausfeld is yet to conclude out of court settlement talks with Vedanta.

The victims of pollution, who are mostly peasant farmers, in 2015 alleged that sulphuric acid discharged from Konkola Copper Mines’ Nchanga operations had poisoned water sources and destroyed their farmland.

The claimants took the matter to the Zambian High Court where judges attempted to award them K2000 as compensation but later registered the case in the London Courts with the help of United Kingdom law firms Leigh Day and Hausfeld on pro-bono.

The farmers feel no amount of money will be adequate to pay for the damage caused by the pollution that includes destruction of farming fields.

“The money looks little but it is good that the World has heard there are people who fought a good cause,” said 71 year old vegetable framer John Chinyimba of Kabundi.

“People with responsibility must help us to preserve water sources and the environment from pollution. This river (Kafue Rivers) is not for an individual but for everyone,” Mr Chinyimba added

The farmers have thanked the two law firms and local people who played a key role in taking the pollution case to the United Kingdom Supreme Court such as activist Chilekwa Mumba.

“God should bless the law firms from the United Kingdom. I am thanking people we worked with in this case. Mr Chilekwa Mumba used to leave his family in Lusaka to help us here in Chingola. May God bless Mr Mumba,” said 61 year old framer Luckson Chabinga.

HH Is Ready to Assume the Functions and Responsibilities of President

United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary-General Batuke Imenda has said that his party President Mr Hakainde Hichilema is ready and adequately prepared to shoulder the functions and responsibilities of the Republican president prescribed in the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016 and in subsidiary pieces of legislation.

In a statement released to the media, Mr Imenda said that there is really nothing meaningful which the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) can do over the next 5 years that will address the backlog of unfulfilled promises and urged voters to guard themselves against giving PF and Dr Lungu another term of office later this year.

Below is the full statement

I wish to assure all my fellow Zambian citizens that UPND President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, widely known as HH, is ready and adequately prepared to shoulder the functions and responsibilities of the Republican president prescribed in the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016 and in subsidiary pieces of legislation.

First and foremost, President Hichilema, in exercise of the executive authority of the State, will adhere to the following provisions excerpted and adapted from Clause 3 of Article 91 of the current Constitution of Zambia:

(a) Respect, uphold and safeguard our country’s Constitution;

(b) Safeguard the sovereignty of the Republic of Zambia;

(c) Promote democracy and enhance the unity of the Nation;

(d) Respect the diversity of the different communities of our country, as well as consider the appointment of citizens from a diversity of ethnic, gender and racial segments of Zambian society;

(e) Promote and protect the rights and freedoms of all citizens and of all visitors to our Motherland; and

(f) Uphold the rule of law, as well as promote the existence of non-discriminatory laws, and push for law enforcement organs of the government that are efficient, impartial, independent, and legitimate.

In addition to upholding the rule of law, President Hichilema is also abundantly aware of the need to put into practice all the other elements of good governance, which include the following:

(a) Accountability—that is, availability of a mechanism for ensuring that public officials are directly and fully liable for the outcomes of their decisions and actions, and the appropriation of resources assigned to them;

(b) Transparency—that is, public access to information about the state, its decision-making mechanisms, and its current and contemplated projects and programmes—except for state secrets and matters relating to public officials’ right to privacy;

(c) Citizen participation—that is, availability of channels and mechanisms through which the citizenry and non-governmental institutions can have an influence on governmental decision-making processes and the behaviour and actions of public officials both directly and through their representatives in Parliament; and

(d) A free press, whose functions in a democratic country like ours include serving as a watchdog to the three organs of the government, informing the public about issues which are of national interest, serving as a medium of communication that guarantees free and open debate and discussion among citizens, influencing public opinion through impartial and fair analysis of issues affecting the country and its people, serving the economic system through sponsored advertisements designed to bring buyers and sellers into contact with each other, and serving as a medium for entertaining the public.

Accordingly, President Hichilema will be guided by the foregoing principles and Constitutional provisos in tending to the other important functions and responsibilities stipulated in Article 91, Article 92, Article 96, and other Articles of the Constitution of Zambia with dignity, leadership and integrity.

These functions and responsibilities include the following:

(a) Preside over national affairs as the country’s Head of State and Government, and as Commander-in-Chief of the various units of the Defence Force;

(a) Appoint ambassadors, high commissioners, plenipotentiaries, diplomatic representatives, and consuls;

(b) Receive and accredit foreign ambassadors, high commissioners, plenipotentiaries, diplomatic representatives, consuls, and heads of international organisations;

(c) Negotiate and sign international agreements and treaties and, subject to the approval of the National Assembly, ratify or accede to international agreements and treaties;

(d) Establish, merge and/or dissolve Government ministries, subject to the approval of the National Assembly;

(e) Confer honours upon deserving citizens and non-citizens residing within and outside Zambia;

(f) Initiate Bills for submission to, and consideration by, the National Assembly;

(g) Appoint the Secretary to the Cabinet, Attorney-General, Solicitor-General, Director of Public Prosecutions, Investigator-General, puisne judges, the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Industrial Relations Court, and the Auditor-General in consultation with relevant organs of government and subject to ratification by the National Assembly; and

(h) Appoint members of an Advisory Committee on the prerogative of mercy which shall advise him on actions and/or decisions to be taken in granting relief to any deserving person convicted of an offence by a court or court-martial.

Besides, we are all aware of the numerous socioeconomic issues and matters which President Hichilema’s administration will have to tackle after the elections scheduled to be held on August 12, 2021, including the creation for a more effective and efficient national government, providing for greater access to education and training, providing for merit-based scholarships for vocational training and university education, providing for low-interest educational loans, providing for an efficient and effective healthcare system, providing for greater and sustained food security, and creation of greater employment opportunities.

Other important issues and matters which the new administration is geared to address include public infrastructure, garbage collection and disposal, socioeconomic conditions in rural areas, electricity tariffs and interruptions in the supply of electricity, the scourge of corruption, the needs of street children and the handicapped, the preservation and protection of our country’s fragile natural environment, and implementation of projects and programmes initiated by President Edgar Lungu and the Patriotic Front in our country’s 10 provinces.

Needless to say, the Patriotic Front assumed the reins of power in September 2011, but the socioeconomic conditions facing the majority of citizens have continued to worsen during the 10 years the ruling political party has been in power. And, unfortunately, the gifts and donations in the form of cash, bicycles, automobiles, and mealie meal which President Lungu and the Patriotic Front are dishing out will not solve the prevailing socioeconomic problems facing the country and its people.

Voters who have the interest of our beloved country and its people at heart, therefore, will need to guard themselves against giving the Patriotic Front and Dr. Lungu another term of office later this year. There is really nothing meaningful which the party can do over the next 5 years that will address the backlog of unfulfilled promises.

Kanganja given 72-hours ultimatum to find the abducted Pheluna and Milton Hatembo connected to HH’s land case

22

Democracy And Motherland Defenders Coalition has given Inspector General of Police Mr Kakoma Kanganja 72-hours ultimatum to find the abducted Pheluna and Milton Hatembo.

Speaking during a briefing in Lusaka today, the Coalition’s spokesperson Andrew Ntewewe called on His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu to find another Police IG if Mr Kanganja fails to act on the matter within the mentioned period of time.

The Hatembos are the witnesses in a court case concerning leader of the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) Mr Hakainde Hichilema who is alleged to have fraudulently acquired farm number 1924 located in Kalomo.

Mr Ntewewe, who is also Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) president said that the abduction of the “two fully grown adults” is savagery and unZambian.
He inferred that Mr Hichilema is the one behind the abduction of the duo.

“We wonder what kind of a situation our county will be going through when citizens should be afraid of disappearing. That they should be afraid of abduction. That they should be afraid of being kidnapped just on a basis of raising matter relating to their property,” he said.

“We reasonably infer that their disappearance has to do with the litigation against Mr Hakainde Hichilema. We infer that they were abducted, kidnapped and illegally imprisoned by agents of Hakainde Hichilema unknowingly or knowingly. We never though in a peaceful country such as ours we could pen a statement such as ours that the abduction is not politics. This is a sadistic, savagery type of behaviour.”

Mr Ntewewe further called on the Head of State to retire Southern Province Police Commissioner if the Hatembos are not found within a reasonable period of time “before the end of this month.”

He however stressed that the Coalition will stand up and defend the rights of all citizens.

Other member institutions in the Coalition are Advocates for National Development and Democracy and the Zambian Institute of Governance and Civil Liberties Advocacy Platform.

We want a Councilor, Mps, Council Persons, President to be PF, Malanji tells voters in North-Western Province

Patriotic Front (PF) Member of the Central Committee (MCC) Joseph Malanji has urged people of Mufumbwe district in North-Western Province to rally behind the PF under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu ahead of the August 12 general elections.

Mr Malanji who is also Foreign Affairs minister said government means well for the people of Zambia because of the development programmes being spread across the country.

He urged people in the region to vote for PF candidates in the August 12 general elections to accelerate social and economic development in the region.

Mr Malanji said the PF has penetrated the province which was regarded as an opposition stronghold as evidenced by the victories recorded in the by-elections that were held in the region.

“Now we want uniform, councilor PF, Member of Parliament PF, council chairman PF and President PF,” he said.

Mr Malanji , who is also PF national mobilization committee member, was speaking when he addressed public rallies at Kashima east and Kyamwina Primary Schools in Mufumbwe constituency yesterday.

It is important for people to vote for PF candidates who will be able to lobby for development from President Lungu because Zambians have resolved to give him a fresh mandate in August this year, he said.

“For developmental projects I can assure you that we are not going to end where we are but we are going to continue,” Mr Malanji said.

He also commissioned the construction of a one by three classroom block at Kashima east Primary School to increase on classroom space to enable pupils learn in a conducive environment.

Earlier, Mr Malanji addressed another mobilization rally in Kanyama chiefdom in Mwinilunga district where he commended people in the area for accepting to work with the PF Government.

“We already have the support that we want from this chiefdom,” he said.

Mr Malanji also assured the people of Kanyama that government will continue with the empowerment programmes especially in the livestock sector.

“On the road network the Government has already signed a contract to do the Mutanda-Mwinilunga road and the contractor will be on site very soon,” he said.

He said works to upgrade Mutanda-Mwinilunga road which has been in a deplorable state for a long time will be commissioned soon.

Mr Malanji also said Government has engaged Zambia National Service (ZNS) to work on feeder roads and bridges in Kanyama chiefdom.

President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and His PF: A Monstrous Mistake to Correct in August.

59

By W. E. Kamirichiki, PhD.

In August—barely four months away, Zambians must try correcting a very gargantuan mistake we committed and tried to correct in the last presidential election cycle. We must vote out PF and President Lungu in order to keep and preserve this republic.

It is a complex affair trying to figure out what makes some voting Zambians—most, economically desperate—think that the Patriotic Front party should continue governing this country, or what would make them turn to someone like President Edgar Chagwa Lungu to keep ruining it.

There is no doubt that Zambia faces social and economic problems—and yes, some challenges pre-date President Lungu. To turn a corner from what is likely going to be the ugliest election in modern Zambian history, we must make Zambia fashionable for politics again by voting out the most criminal party ever to hold our presidency .

Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu is the worst political and ruling-party candidate for president in Zambian history. This is not a close call. By virtually any measure, he is unfit to lead anything. He failed to lead and set a law firm as a going concern. He drew the professional ire of the law association of Zambia (LAZ) for theft of a client’s money. As a result, LAZ suspended his law licence in 2010. How then, did we not see this character would be carried over into the presidency? It was. Look where we are as a republic.

It is worth going back and reading the transcripts of his press conferences just to stitch his lucidness when he is answering questions off the cuff. It is breath-robbing how incapable he is of forming a single articulable vision for our country. Most of us have had low expectations for him. We have found nothing worth to analyse in his comportment over nearly six and half years of his chequered presidency. There is nothing seismic about his flawed governance record except his failure and that of his PF party to enhance the presidency. The “humble” man of Chawama meanders in thought and purpose and so he lets his press handler do all the press relations bit because he toddles, and occasionally whines about the opposition when he fails in his work. He is uninformed and unprepared to tackle the issues of governance. He has failed to grow into it because he failed to nurture method, reflection and foresightedness expected of a lawyer would-be president.

He fumbles, constantly, about everything. And he either has failed to control the criminality of his supporters or that he stokes their anger, fear and even violence among them. He nurtures their very worst instincts by ignoring their worst criminal instincts. His mis (un) informed followers brag he is “humble”. That is nonsense. He has lashed out and conspired by concocting bogus claims against the opposition, most frequently the leader of the UPND, HH, and anyone his cadres think is insulting President Lungu.

These nearly six years have helped us understand how deep a disaster Mr. Edgar Lungu’s presidency has been. There is no limit to the potential for unending horror he can wrought upon our country. Think of how much he has been a failed president – how he has not released a report of inquiry about our gassed brothers and sisters, how much unsustainable debt he has saddled upon our grandchildren and their great grandchildren, and how much he has flexed the judiciary to his power-hungry insatiable ends. And how reckless he has been in firing professional career civil servants doing their jobs under the very burden of ill-managed political pressures. And how he has stuffed PF-morons as staff into critical institutional infrastructure of our republic.

By voting out PF and President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, we cease to imagine scandals. We are spared the stench of corruption, and the national embarrassment of a clueless man that would keep brewing if we extended his rule of ruin. Consider how leaf-thin his policy knowledge is and how impulsively he reacts to his political rivals and righteous constructive criticism of PF. Imagine the potential exponential growth of political violence and cadre criminality if we buy into that hollow PF manifesto without a moral foundation.

President Edgar Lungu should not be re-elected to succeed himself as president of Zambia because he should not have been allowed to ascend to that office in the first place. He was our monstrous and regrettable mistake we must now correct for Zambia’s posterity.

As patriotic citizen of this country, we should not let President Lungu yet again be a train driver of a criminal wagon of PF party carders. To refresh our country, our ousting of the PF party for another political party would in effect be a referendum against every word of PF lies, no matter how outlandish and easily disproven. There are some people, even at this defining period, who are torn about whether they should support him or protract his presidency. Maybe they are a small yet important segment of our ill and mis-informed brothers and sisters who have been fed lies about the opposition, especially HH, about what he would do in the Zambian presidency.

Maybe they are a regrettable crowd who hear bogus and unpatriotic stories about “how a Tonga should not rule our country”. The last nearly six and half years have proven that HH is not what these misinformed sect thinks and has, to most rational Zambians, erased those unfounded fears. Foresighted Zambians now see that everyone in the opposition from UPND or HH have genuine resentment and fears about PF judgment, and the future of our republic. The PF mindless political terrorists are on the loose, but the August vote is the chance to stop Zambians from murdering Zambians. Presently, it is dangerous to be a civil servant and have opposition-leaning ideology. But we surely should and will shame the loosing PF party by celebrating PF-leaning civil servants who love their country by serving in the incoming opposition government.

But now is the moment for every last Zambian to decide what it truly means to be a citizen of this great Southern Africa Eagle republic. You can be reluctant about UPND or Hakainde Hichilema. You do not even have to vote for him (though I will, without doubt or hesitation even if “he is Tonga” according to the tribalist narrative of unpatriotic small and primitive political minds ). I will vote for him, because even at his worst, UPND or HH or any serious opposition president is still better than President Edgar Lungu at his supporter’s overrated best). In fact, most of PF’s rivals are teachable, can be fast learners and have a solid character to be potentially great leaders or ruling parties.

What you cannot do—and I wish I could add, what you must not do—is to vote for PF and Edgar Lungu and pretend that this is just another election, and he or the PF has a possibility of re-tracking back to good governance. It is your minimum duty as a citizen not to support a clueless, and unqualified leader of a mostly purposeless and corrupt party, who has in his “humble” nature done everything in his cluelessness to allow ugly transient vulture instincts to ruin Zambia. There is nothing in the horizon that can assuage our faith about an individual who received more than six test years to try the presidency, and mostly failed.

No matter how left out or left behind you assume you could be under the UPND Presidency, voting for President Edgar Lungu is nothing short of a colossal moral failure. It is a vicious act against our posterity and our great grandchildren, and for many others who would suffer miserably under his continuing presidency.

It is an act of violence and betrayal against Zambia itself, whose re-known has always been about an island of political tranquillity and warm people progressing from social and economic hardships and brotherhood , sometimes frustratingly slowly, but forward.

The promise of those hollow PF slogans by its fist-clenched carders who are more of criminals than civilized citizen is to dig our republic deeper into an economic debt doldrum, and possibly, even U-turn us back into the opposite direction of colonial ownership. The clenched fist they sell is snake oil of empty rhetoric. It is a constant reminder to the rest of us how they have plundered our country, hidden ill-gotten wealth, and mastered violence with a symbolic tight fist no one will unclench. It is a lie. We must bury PF this August to reclaim our country for our children, and somehow, even help save PF from PF.

Election mistakes from 2016 are proof we took and tried our chance. It turned out to be a big triple mistake: PF under Lungu, the presidency under PF and Zambia under PF. Yes, everything has mostly gone under. We have found the whole PF architecture to be spectacularly wanting. Now, if we are to progress, we must correct this monstrous triple mistake by ushering in a PF-less and a Lungu-free Zambian government. My people, the voting month and hour cometh!
