British High Commissioner praise President Lungu’s commitment to fight effects of climate change

Mr Nicholas Woolley

New British High Commissioner to Zambia Nicholas Woolley has praised Zambia and President Edgar Lungu’s commitment to fight effects of climate change as outlined in his speech to Parliament recently.

High Commissioner Woolley, who presented his credentials to President Lungu on Thursday, also said in a short video that he expressed to the Head of State his “keen desire to further strengthen our shared partnership in areas such as economic development and prosperity, governance and human investment, regional stability, climate security and people to people contacts”.

“It’s a great pleasure to be here in Zambia. Yesterday, I had the great honour of presenting my credentials to His Excellency President Edgar Lungu and also the opportunity to discuss with him our close history and close friendship as two nations. I also I really look forward to serving in this beautiful country Zambia. Zikomo Kwambiri,” High Commissioner Woolley said in the brief video.

And speaking after presenting his credentials at State House, the envoy committed his country to working with Zambia in its efforts to grow the economy and minimize effects of climate change.

“Your Excellency, I listened with great interest to your recent address to Parliament on the theme of accelerating sustainable development for a better Zambia amidst the impact of climate change. As a country that has invested significantly as a development partner over many years, and as co-host of next year’s major climate change summit, COP26, the UK will continue to ally with Zambia as it seeks to realise its ambition in these vital areas. We understand the importance of a Zambia that is a stable, democratic partner in the region, which funds and delivers effective services to its citizens to build human capital. The UK will continue to support these efforts in key sectors, including social protection, nutrition and family planning,” High Commissioner Woolley said.

“The UK will also work side-by-side with Zambia as it seeks to achieve its goal of becoming a prosperous middle-income country by 2030. We will support your efforts for greater economic development and prosperity, through regional trade facilitation, inclusive growth and job creation strategies and generating a pipeline of opportunities for both commercial and institutional investors. We will work with you to improve access to finance for small and medium-sized businesses to grow into viable opportunities for larger investment funds, linking Zambia with the UK’s global offer on access to finance and expertise on asset and investment management.”

He added that Zambia was already a trading partner of choice for many UK companies.

“The UK is a major investor across many sectors of the Zambian economy. Current investments in Zambia by UK business in key sectors such as mining, agriculture and financial services total almost £1billion. We should celebrate too the wider bonds that bind us…As do our governments, so do our peoples share close links and friendships. There is a large Zambian community in the UK, and an approximate 10,000 Britons living here in Zambia, with many more visiting for business or leisure each year,” High Commissioner Woolley said. “Many Zambians choose to study in the UK’s world-class universities and colleges, including on Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships. The vibrant British Council is creating opportunities and enabling young Zambians to fulfil their potential – improving their employability, resilience and networks by delivering 22,000 internationally recognised UK examinations, professional development training to 3,000 teachers and school leaders; football and community skills training; partnerships in arts and music; and English language training.”

He said he subscribed to the notion that the best way to predict the future is to create it.

“I look forward to the continued development of a modern partnership between Zambia and the UK; a partnership based on shared interests and increasingly focused on trade and investment, as well as development expertise and assistance,” stated High Commissioner Woolley.

Murder in Kaoma: UPND confirms one cadre shot dead by PF

The UPND leadership led by Secretary General Steven Kakunta at UTH awaiting for news on the condition of cadre Lawrence Banda who shortly died

The opposition UPND has confirmed that one of its youth cadres has been shot dead in Kaoma in politically motivated shooting ahead of the by-election.

Both UPND Chairperson for Mobilisation and Strategy Sylvia Masebo and Party Spokesman Charles Kakoma confirmed the death of Lawrence Banda, popularly known as “Gaddafi” who was shot dead on Sunday.

“It is with a heavy and broken heart that I receive the news of the demise of a vibrant and committed youth member in the UPND, Lawrence Banda, popularly known by his mates as “Gaddafi”. Lawrence was allegedly shot twice in the head by a known PF cadre after they [PF cadres] attacked the UPND camp in the ongoing Kaoma district council by-elections,” Ms. Masebo said.

“I have personally known and worked with this young man and this sad news is really crushing. My heart bleeds at what our Zambian politics have now become under the PF and President Lungu’s administration,” she said.

Ms. Masebo said political violence has taken root and is currently at an advanced stage where guns are now being used indiscriminately.

She said the police, unfortunately, seem helpless especially after the recent Sesheke by-elections, where senior police officers were fired for acting professionally.

“The effect of that unfair act has now left the police scared to do their job professionally. And this has left the opposition party members very vulnerable to attacks by the cadres of the ruling elite who openly move around with guns .”

Ms. Masebo said the opposition members have no protection from the police, especially during these by-elections.

She charged that there can be no free elections under such a violent atmosphere where lives are being lost.

“My only wish right now is for the Police, under the leadership of Mr. Kanganja to stop downplaying these horrendous crimes being committed by the ruling party cadres. These are serious matters requiring the Police to quickly bring the culprits to book. Please for once let the law take its course. So many lives have been lost without culprits being punished and as a result, the situation is getting out of control. What will the 2021 elections look like?”

“My sincere condolences go to the Banda family for losing such a young member of their family. May you remain strong in the Lord. May the Holy Spirit comfort you.

And Mr. Kakoma confirmed that the UPND Members were shot by PF cadres in Kaoma in the head and was battling for his life in Kaoma General Hospital at the time the media statement was released.

“The UPND member was shot twice in the head after armed PF cadres invaded the UPND camp in Kaoma Central today. The PF cadres found some women at the UPND camp in Kaoma Site and Service preparing some meals and attacked them. One of the youths tried to save women from attackers. It was at this point that one-armed PF cadre shot him twice in the head. The bullets have not yet been removed by doctors at Kaoma General Hospital. Police have not arrested the PF cadre who shot the UPND member.”

“Meanwhile, as the news went around that there was fighting going on at the UPND camp, some more PF cadres mobilized themselves and on their way to the scene of the fighting, they met the UPND Kaoma youth chairman Chola Simwaba who was riding a motorbike, unaware of the fighting that had broken out. The PF thugs started stoning him. He fell to the ground and beat him up. In self-defense, he used his gun to shoot in the air to scare away his attackers. Police have now arrested the UPND member Chola Simwaba.”

Mr. Kakoma said, “As UPND, we would like to strongly appeal to the police to be fair and impartial in handling the situation in Kaoma and other places where by-elections are taking place. We would also like to warn the PF that starting political violence and blaming it on the UPND will not help them. They should stop it or regret it.

But Police Inspector General Kakoma Kanganja denied that anyone died in Kaoma due to political violence.

Mr. Kanganja stated that four people were injured and were hospitalized at Kaoma General Hospital.

He also refuted claims that there was an exchange of gunfire between the Police and party cadres.

Mr. Kanganja said one person has since been arrested and a gun has been confiscated.

“Good afternoon colleagues. The Police never exchanged any gunfire with anyone. Four persons have been injured and hospitalized. One person has been arrested and one pistol recovered from him. No deaths have been recorded,” Mr. Kanganja said.

Inspector General of Zambia Police Kakoma Kanganja has that no death has occurred or recorded in the fracas that occurred in Kaoma District today between the United Party for National Development (UPND) and the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Cadres.

In a message released to the press, Mr. Kanganja said that that four people were injured and were hospitalized at Kaoma General Hospital.

Mr. Kanganja also refuted claims that there was an exchange of gunfire between the Police and party cadres but added that one person has been arrested and a gun has been confiscated.

Earlier the ruling Patriotic Front released pictures and statement to the media showing the injured PF cadres by UPND cadres

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ARMED UPND CADRES SHOOTS AT OUR SUPPORTERS DURING DOOR TO DOOR CAMPAIGNS, ABOUT 6 INJURED

Kaoma, Western Province, 6th October 2019 – Armed United Party for National Development (UPND) this morning trailed and shot at our Patriotic Front (PF) members who were in the field carrying out door to door campaigns, injuring about six (06) who are all hospitalized with one of them battling for his life. We find UPND’s desperation totally unacceptable that they would rather shade blood in order to win an election.

PF has continued with violence-free elections in the upcoming Kaoma by-election and it is regrettable that Opposition UPND has resorted to using violence as they did in the Parliamentary by-election. Our candidate Mrs. Ngombo Ngebe has remained favorite to win the Kaoma Council Chairperson by-election and we are calling on the Zambia Police to intensify security patrols in the area.

We are aware of UPNDs machinations ahead of the voting day on 10th October 2019 and we hope the Police will maintain law and order otherwise our competitors are geared to turn this area into another bloodbath, the sort of politics we must all condemn.

PF has been under very strict instructions from the Head of State who is also Party President His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu to conduct violence-free and issue-based campaigns. This is a position we refuse to depart from even under extreme provocation from the Opposition.

Efficient Zesco end Napsa Stars unbeaten run

0

Defending FAZ Super Division champions Zesco United moved to second place on the log today following a 3-2 home win over Napsa Stars at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The result ended early-season pacesetters Napsa’s unbeaten start to the 2019/2020 campaign after coming into this game with three wins and a draw.

Zesco are now one of two sides still unbeaten and are also the only team with a one hundred percent win run after five rounds played.

Umaru Kasumba put Zesco ahead in the 18th minute when he deflected in a fine pass from Anthony Akumu while he was sandwiched between two Napsa defenders.

But the lead lasted just thirteen minutes when Napsa striker Bornwell Mwape fired-in a sublime volley on the turn to see the two sides go into the break level.

However, Napsa could have gone into the break with the lead had Mwape’s goal-bound shot not been cleared off the line by Quadri Kola.

Zesco reclaimed the lead in the 65th minute when Clement Mwape pounced on the rebound after Rabson Muchelenganga had parried Enock Sabumukama’s ball from an acute angle into the Chipolopolo defenders path.

Kola made it 3-1 in the 81st minute with a rather speculative drive but four minutes later sent another opportunity from a similar situation marginally wide.

But Napsa made sure they returned to Lusaka with a respectable score line when Bornwell Mwape fired-in another quality goal this time from a long-range free kick.

Napsa drop from second to third on 10 points after five games played.

Zesco have maximum 12 points with from four games a match in hand after replacing Napsa at number two.

The champions are just one point behind leaders and fellow unbeaten side Red Arrows who beat Green Buffaloes 2-0 at home in Lusaka on Saturday.

Meanwhile, at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Lusaka Dynamos ended their three-match losing run with a 3-0 home win over ailing Mufulira Wanderers.

Marvin Jere put Dynamos ahead in the 2nd minute, Chris Mugalu scored from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute and Moussa Lemisa made it a bridge too far for Mighty in the 52nd minute.

Mighty are stuck third from bottom on 3 points that they earned from their 3-2 away win over Nkana on September 22.

Dynamos are up from 14th to 11th on 6 points after the victory.

Musakanya gets last minute Chipolopolo call-up

1

Red Arrows midfielder Bruce Musakanya is back in the Chipolopolo fold after he was initially snubbed for this week’s two-match friendly tour of West Africa.

Musakanya is one of two late additions to Aggrey Chiyangi’s team that will face Benin and Niger away during the October FIFA International Match Window that will run from October 7-15.

The Arrows captain was surprisingly left out of the team announced this past week despite his great club form for the current league leaders.

Musakanya replaces club mate Paul Katema who was on the initial list.

Also getting a late summon is Power Dynamos midfielder Larry Bwalya.

Chipolopolo, who depart for West Africa this Sunday afternoon, will kick off their friendly tour against Niger on October 10 in Niamey and face Benin in Cotonou on October 13.

Today’s Message: Appointments of Divine Favor

3

Today’s Scripture

“For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]…”
(Ephesians 2:10, AMPC)

Appointments of Divine Favor

God has already prepared paths for you to take in your future! When God laid out the plan for your life, He lined up the right people, the right circumstances and the right breaks. In your future, He’s already released favor, supernatural opportunities and divine connections. The breaks you need in life have already been set to come across your path. If you will stay in faith and go out each day and be a person of excellence, you’ll walk right into these appointments of favor. It will be just as if you stumbled into God’s blessings!

When you understand this principle, you’ll begin to get excited about every single day! You’ll have a spring in your step as you think about what blessing is coming next. It could be today. It could be tomorrow. It could be next week. Keep expecting. Keep believing. Stay focused on the fact that God has already released into your future everything you need to fulfill your destiny. Start declaring seasons of increase over your life. Declare that favor is on you and look for those appointments of divine favor!

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for prearranging a good life for me. Thank You for ordering my steps and directing my path. Help me to understand Your goodness more so that I can know You and stay close to You all the days of my life in Jesus name. Amen.”

President Hakainde Hichilema in a group photo with other eminent and distinguished personalities attending a meeting organised by the Brenhurst Foundation at Lake Como, Italy to discuss Africa’s economic trajectory under a theme, “Can Africa be the Next Asia?”

By Mwanza and Kalunga

Over the past few days, the public has been treated to some information – whether true or not – that the United Party for National Development (UPND) leader, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, attended a meeting in the resort town of Lake Como in Italy of the Africa Liberal Network (ALN), an organisation which promotes liberal values, including homosexuality. The meeting is said to have taken place under the auspices of the South African-based Brenthurst Foundation.

What we know about the Brenthurst Foundation

The Brenthurst Foundation was set up by the Oppenheimer family who have made their fortune exploiting Southern Africa’s rich mineral wealth from South Africa itself through to Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The Brenthurst Foundation styles itself as an organisation that promotes African economic development and “progress”, a rather thin veil for its agenda to change Africa through interfering in the political affairs of African countries by promoting so-called liberal political parties.

Those who have read the opinions of its Director, one Greg Mills, will see from the tone of his articles that he or the Brenthurst Foundation seem to believe that he has some duty to “help Africans” change their governments by electing those who are acceptable to and would promote the Brenthurst Foundation’s agenda.

Dr. Greg Hill’s piece on the 2016 Zambian Presidential election ends with an astonishing claim that the international community – more accurately put, Western countries – should consider actively intervening in African countries if the outcome of an election is not to their liking or more succinctly, if their preferred presidential candidate is not elected, apparently in an election where the margin is sufficiently narrow to ignite controversy by the losing candidate claiming electoral fraud or some other imaginary electoral malfeasance.

The arrogance of Mr. Mills’ article is astonishing but not surprising because in all elections in which Brenthurst Foundation-backed candidates have lost, those elections have attracted wide-spread attention in the Western media which have labelled the elections as “flawed”, “controversial”, “disputed” etc. and have been followed by loud calls for “unity governments”, intended to put Brenthurst Foundation-supported candidates in the resulting government.

These attempts to place selected but unelected persons into government by threats of “international action” have been rejected in recent times as the people of the countries in question, have become more and more aware of these efforts to infiltrate unelected persons into elected government by subterfuge on the part of the Western governments and their surrogates, such as the aforementioned Brenthurst Foundation.

What we know about the African Liberal Network

Back to Zambia and the story surrounding the UPND President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema. Following some news – manufactured or not – of Mr. Hichilema’s attendance at the Lake Como meeting arranged by Brenthurst Foundation, it is also said that the meeting was attended by the Africa Liberal Network, an organisation to which the UPND is a member. The Africa Liberal Network’s core mission is, inter alia, “promoting liberalism including minority rights.”

In its true context, minority rights is a veiled reference to “promoting gay rights.” Obviously, the ALN is aware of the increasing hostility of the African population towards political parties or any movement or organisation which promotes homosexuality and its attendant “gay rights;” the Network has therefore wisely chosen not to be so brazen and blatant in their advocacy and now has now chosen to disguise gay rights under the more generic cover of “minority rights”.

The Africa Liberal Network, under the rather thin cover of promoting minority rights, is much better known for promoting homosexuality, or so-called “gay or LGBTQ rights.” One may ask what all this has to do with our main Opposition Party and its leader, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.

Well, Mr. Hichilema has a prominent presence at the Brenthurst Foundation which, incidentally, is chaired by former Nigerian President, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, (Rtd). Of more immediate interest is the fact that Mr. Hichilema’s party, the UPND, is a member of the Africa Liberal Network which has a close partnership with the Brenthurst Foundation and the two are working together in promoting so-called minority which, as earlier stated, is just a non-explicit name for homosexual or gay rights.

The Africa Liberal network has a policy to promote liberalism and minority and homosexual rights, and “to capacitate its member parties to win elections in order to implement the liberal agenda.” UPND as a member party of ALN is, therefore, bound by these ALN policies as categorically stated on the Network’s web site. The meeting which Mr. Hichilema is said to have attended, was said to have been attended by the ALN, whose eminent work in promoting homosexuality or so-called gay rights is well known.

When some social media article appeared which allegedly Mr. Hichilema had stated that his Party would enshrine gay rights in the constitution when it comes to power, there was consternation in Zambia, especially among the Christian groups who were outraged that Zambia, which is a declared Christian nation, should even contemplate legislating gay rights.

President Lungu, attending the UN General Assembly in New York at the time, weighed in on the issue, calling upon Zambians not to be swayed and reaffirming that his government would uphold the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation and would not allow alien or foreign values to dilute Zambian and Christian values.

In the usual fashion, local news outlets jumped into the fray largely on the anti-gay side. Mr. Hichilema, for his part, issued a rather muted denial of the alleged news report attributing to him as having uttered the words alleged. Mr. Hichilema said he was unmoved by “PF propaganda” and that as a Christian, he does not support “unbiblical things.” UPND Party Spokesperson, Charles Kakoma, also issued a statement which, interestingly, seemed to deny the fact that Mr. Hichilema had travelled out of the country at all.

Mr. Kakoma’s denial was countered by a strong statement, on social media, by the former UPND Vice President for Politics, Dr. Canisius Banda, in which he categorically stated that Mr. Hichilema had indeed travelled to Lake Como in Italy to attend the Brenthurst Foundation-organised meeting which was also attended by the Africa Liberal Network. Dr. Banda challenged Mr. Kakoma, the UPND Spokesperson, to inspect Mr. Hichilema’s passport to confirm whether or not he had travelled to Italy.

A very loud silence then followed, during which nothing more was said about this trip to Italy by the UPND leader. This continued until one day or so ago, when suddenly, the News Diggers Newspaper jumped into the fray and re-opened the discussion with an editorial attacking the Republican President’s office, which we commonly refer to as State House, for “lying about the UPND’s ties to the Africa Liberal Network and its homosexual agenda.

News Diggers accused State House of having spread a false story about UPND’s ties to “those promoting homosexuality”, a reference to the Africa Liberal Network. Interestingly, News Diggers does not deny the fact that Mr Hichilema had travelled to Italy to attend a meeting which was also attended by the ALN.

More importantly, there is no denial even from News Diggers that UPND is a member party of the Africa Liberal Network whose outspoken advocacy of homosexuality, or so-called gay rights, is its most prominent feature. The Africa Liberal Network makes no secret of its agenda to support for its member political parties to take over government for the purpose of implementing its so-called liberal policies.

It is interesting that News Diggers have chosen to attack the President, or State House, for his remarks on Government’s policy towards so-called gay rights. There is nothing sinister about the President in guiding the nation over his government’s policies, even if it is related to the on-going discussion on UPND’s association with a network that promotes homosexuality under the broad but thin cover of liberal values.

The UPND is a member of the African Liberal Network, an Alliance of 47 political parties whose core agenda is to promote liberal values such including homosexuality, a key component of minority rights. According to the ALN, its Alliance partners, including the UPND are bound by the ALN Constitution which states that “they (parties) exist to ensure religious, gender and minority rights are recognised,” among other things.

So what type of minority rights have these 47 parties, including the UPND, have been fighting for to ensure recognition in African Countries? The African Liberal Network, constituting 47 members who include UPND, celebrated the granting of homosexuality rights in Botswana by way of the Botswana High Court’s decision in a matter which was moved by gay rights activists. In Nigeria, this Network of 47 political parties protested against the passing of a law prohibiting same-sex marriage and threatened to take the Federal Government of Nigeria to the United Nations to have the Nigerian Federal government declared by the UN as being in violation of human rights.

One wonders, then, how it can be denied that the UPND, which is a member of this Network and is bound by its Constitution, does not subscribes to these values which include homosexuality or so-called gay rights when the same are implemented jointly by the ALN. The UPND voluntarily joined the African Liberal Network knowing exactly what the Network stands for, including its homosexuality agenda, and voluntarily accepted to be bound by the Network’s constitution and its policies.

Cape Verde has, by far, been hailed to be the most accepting country in Africa when it comes to homosexuality based on a 2016 survey which was conducted and showed 74% of the residents welcoming the idea of having homosexuality. Those who propagate liberal values such as the ALN, feel aggrieved that “the legislation on homosexuality in Ghana which was introduced in the 1860s remains an unpleasant stain on the country’s liberal record” but said many liberal activists in Ghana are still pushing for a change to the country’s laws.

Namibia, has also been singled out as a country that is “taking a progressively more liberal stance issues of homosexuality” with Lesotho said to be the nation mostly known as liberal and peaceful where same-sex relationships have never been against the law and male same-sex activities were legalised in 2012.

The other countries that have been recognised by these champions as liberal countries are South Africa which allows same-sex marriage as part of the liberal agenda to promote minority rights and Mozambique where the liberal advocates are hoping changes will be made to laws on sexual preferences.

These examples, above, should not leave any doubt as to what these advocates of liberal democracy champion in their promotion of minority rights. The UPND is a member of the Africa Liberal Network whose track-record and agenda to fight for these liberal values.

Conclusion

Instead of the UPND attempting to deflect the facts and to deny its choices, it should accept that the citizens of this country, including the President, have a right to demand straight answers when they demand to know what the UPND’s policy is on any particular subject. In this case, Zambians want a straight answer to the question of the UPND’s stance or position, on homosexuality and so-called gay rights in light of the fact that is a part of the Network that work to entrench these rights.

Zambians cannot be expected to sit idle and accept lame denials when the activities of the UPND, by its association with Africa Liberal Network, points clearly to an agenda which will lead to the introduction of so-called gay rights if or when UPND forms government. That is what the mission statement of African Liberal Network states in clear terms, that is, its Alliance members inclusive of the UPND, are bound to implement the policies of ALN.

UPND must simply come out and explain its liberal agenda vis-à-vis the Africa Liberal Network of which they are a member. The ALN has clearly shown its agenda of promoting homosexuality in African countries. There is no need for denial: The UPND is part of the liberal network promoting these liberal values which include so-called gay rights under the guise of minority rights.

President Edgar Lungu and His Tanzanian counterpart, President John Magufuli on Saturday commissioned the Tunduma -Nakonde One Stop Border Post.

Tunduma -Nakonde One Stop Border Post is one of the busiest in Zambia clearing over 600 Trucks per day.

It is hopeful that the One Stop Border Post will reduce the number of days it takes to clear Cargo from an average 4 days to a single day.

President Lungu expressed his government’s commitment to promoting small scale cross border trading saying it is at the heart of every nation’s economic success.

“I am not sure about you here but big businesses have a way of coming to an end. But the small scale cross border trading goes on. They must be supported,” said President Lungu.

“Once fully operation, the border will handle higher traffic levels which will in return improve competitiveness of the corridor resulting in increased trade volumes between our two countries. Ultimately this infrastructure will promote border coordination making our shared border smart and efficient,” President Lungu said.

“This will also significantly reduce the time spent at the border from the current average of 4 days to 1 day hence helping our truck drivers and traders increase on their profit and save time,” he said.

President Lungu also called upon border authorities to ensure that small scale cross border traders are accommodated under this facility, and assisted to conduct trade in a formalised manner.

“This plays a crucial role in the economies of our two countries and in line with Government’s resolve of leaving no one behind.”

And President Magufuli has expressed optimism that the one stop border post will enhance trade between Zambia and Tanzania.

He noted that the facility will eradicate barriers to trade which are evident with trucks being marooned at the border.

President Magufuli said the 14 billion Tanzanian shillings facility in Tunduma will further promote intra Africa trade as it coordinates with the Zambian side which was commissioned in 2015.

The Rural Electrification Authority has completed its first ever Mini Hydro Power Station in Mwinilunga set to benefit over 12,000 people at a cost of US$8.6 million.

The Kasanjiku project located on the Kasanjiku River in Mwinilunga District in North Western Province is set to improve the quality of life for beneficiaries in Chief Ntambu and Chief Sailunga’s area.

REA Manager Corporate Affairs Justin Mukosa says the Authority is excited to successfully implement an off grid technology project that will alleviate energy poverty in the country.

“We are delighted to complete the construction of the Kasanjiku project because it is going to improve the quality of life for over 12,000 people and also highlight the massive potential that lies in the Northern Region of Zambia for electricity generation using mini hydro technology,” he said.

And REA Director Engineering Services Patrick Mubanga says the project once commissioned will provide electricity throughout the year.

“The power station once energised will be able to supply power to the community throughout the year as the turbines will be supplied with water from the Kasanjiku River which experiences good water supply” Engineer Mubanga said.

The 0.64 mega watts project will electrify 11 schools, one Mission hospital, four Rural Health Centres, one Local Court and one Chief’s Palace.

The project begun in 2016 after a ground breaking ceremony officiated by Vice President of Zambia Inonge Wina.

Africa’s education system produces white-collar bureaucrats who can’t perform, innovate, write, research, develop or produce

“Without education, we are in a horrible and deadly danger of taking educated people seriously,” Aristotle

“You can go to school but you can’t buy class,” Jay Z.

The last two weeks or so we have been subjected to some infantile and petty debate about grown ups calling each other names about their qualifications; who is an economist and who is not, blah blah blah.

First, it was the medical doctors, then the pilots then the lawyers, then the engineers now it is the economists bragging about their qualifications and calling each other names.

I would rather people show us their works and not their papers.

The problem with Africa’s education system is that it produces white-collar bureaucrats who can’t perform, innovate, write, research, develop or produce.

It’s about schooling/acquiring papers and not education/knowledge acquisition.

Like Mr Sata used to say, “We have Engineers who can’t even mend a pot hole, we have professors who can’t even write a book.”

Africa is producing thousands upon thousands of graduates; bachelors, masters and PHD holders every year but where are the fruits; where is the development, where is the innovation, where is research and development, the M&E, where is the entrepreneurship, the social mobility, the human development?

Are our graduates helping us with their education or it’s just papers?

Let us focus on using our education to lift up people, to change our attitudes, to change our societies and to advance human development and not to brag and demonize one another otherwise our education will be rendered useless.

Let me conclude by quoting Proverbs 16:16, wisdom is far much better than knowledge.

Happy sabbath and may God bless you all.

Mr. Kasolo has told QTV news that his ministry is concerned that an institution under it is not operating normally.
