Christ’s love key to ending violence – President Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says nothing will heal Zambia from the emerging political violence unless Christ fills the hearts of politicians with love.

President Lungu says when one’s heart is filled with Christ, there is love, understanding and tolerance, which cannot lead someone to cause harm to a fellow human being.

The president said this in the morning when he attended a divine church service at Healing Word Ministries International in Lusaka.

The president who was accompanied by first Lady Esther Lungu called on the church to help politicians feel accepted whenever they attend church services so that they get convicted with the word of God and become better persons.

President Lungu noted that the church has continued to play a critical role in the country’s political affairs and this role should continue.

He urged the church to pray for politicians so that those who come to services with sinister motives are prohibited by God and change.

President Lungu further said once the church continues to play its role, Christianity will spread to the political arena and violence will become a thing of the past.

The Republican President also reminded the church’s influence it has in the country, and spreading love was important to healing the country and unite everyone.

He implored the church to continue according politicians through visitations, church services and other settings so as to spread the word of love and peace so that others learn.

And the President Lungu has appealed to the Patriotic Front party members to be messengers of peace. He said the party does not take pride in causing harm to another person in the interest of fulfilling a political agenda.

He said it should be the duty of every party member to preach peace and lead as an example of good messengers.

Among others who accompanied the president was Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya and State House Minister Freedom Sikazwe

Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa His Excellency Emmanuel Mwamba disclosed that Mr. Mulongoti was made an outpatient the last two weeks.

He said , however recent development have neccesisted that he be re-admitted into hospital.

“We urge all stakeholders not politicise Mr. Mulongoti’s illness and allow him the privacy he requires”

He said Mr. Mulongoti was re-admitted last week into hospital.

And Mr. Mwamba has advised that to his knowledge no press statement(s) have been issued by Mr. Mulongoti and further advised the media to get in touch with him or Mrs. Betty Mulongoti for clarification.

Mr. Mulongoti has since been admitted to Awryp Medical Centre in Johannesburg.

And Mr. Mwamba said the treatment and review of Everett Chongo has gone very well.

He said Everett was in South Africa last week for medical review for doctors to ascertain and observe the continued healing of her spine and legs.

He said after the review, doctors were happy with the tremendous progress she has made.

Nkana sweat on Kelvin Mubanga’s fitness for Kotoko clash

2

Influential Nkana midfielder Kelvin Mubanga is battling to be fit for Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup Group C away match against Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.

Mubanga has been restricted to light training since Friday a day after Nkana arrived in Ghana for their top-versus- bottom Group C match.

“So far so good with our preparations and the boys have been working hard and know what is stake and they are all looking forward to Sundays’ game,” Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi said.

“But we have a minor setback with our midfielder Mubanga. We are still observing him but otherwise the whole team is ready for battle.

“He has a hip problem and on Friday had light training and we are still waiting for the medics’ final report.”

Mubanga, who has two continental goals in this season’s campaign, played a critical role with two assists in Nkana’s 3-1 home win over Kotoko on February 24 in Kitwe.

Meanwhile, Nkana’s 2017 U20 AFCON winning defender Moses Nyondo is in line for his debut continental start.

Nyondo is set to start due to Nkana’s defensive setbacks after Richard Ocran and Musa Mohammed were slapped with two -match bans by CAF for collecting their second match suspensions in this seasons continental campaign.

“He is a player who has played at the highest level and I hope and pray the boy will come in strong and deputy the defence,” Chambeshi said.

Nkana lead Group C on 6 points, Al Hilal of Sudan are second on 4 points, tied with third placed Zesco United whom they host today in Khartoum.

Kotoko are bottom on 3 points from three games played.

Mike Mulongoti becomes the latest leader to pull out the UPND led Opposition Alliance

President of the People’s Party (PP) Mike Mulongoti has announced that his Party has pulled out of the Opposition Alliance. In a statement released to the media, The PP President said that his party has ceased to be part of politics of hate, malice and propaganda and decided to with draw his membership of the Opposition Alliance.

Mr Mulongoti said that his decision has come after deep reflection and after realising that the initial agenda of the opposition alliance has been discarded and replaced with a sole goal of helping a certain party, UPND in particular to ascend to power in 2021.

Last week, Peoples Alliance for Change President Andyford Banda cited the same reasons advanced by Mr Mulongoti in Pulling out of the Alliance saying the opposition Alliance had lost direction and was serving the interest of one political party.

Below is Mr Mulongoti’s statement

Dear Zambians

Thank you for the prayers you have rendered and continue to render to me and my family over this period.

I find strength knowing that you have continued to pray for my wellbeing and quick recovery.

I would like to render my utmost gratitude to His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu for his warm heart and his role played in my evacuation to South Africa for specialist treatment.

Many of you know the frosty relationship I had with President Lungu. It may not be right to discuss this issue now but let me hasten to state that at times, we humans are driven in our deeds by vanity and a self fulfilling attitude, especially in the political sphere. When you allow politics to define who you’re,you lose so much of humour and rationality. I was unreasonable in my belief and accusations that President Edgar Lungu is Jonathan Mutaware. At an appropriate time , if I will get well , I wish to hold a briefing to detail the motivation behind those petty accusations we made against the Head of State.

Suffice to say, some of us were blinded by the power hungry colleagues who cheered us for our antagonistic approach, for their own political mileage.

Country men and women, you may be aware that in 2011, just like many other people, I campaigned for PF and late President Michael Sata (MHSRIP).Some of us expected payment for our efforts and when those rewards seemed far fetched, we developed hate for President Lungu. Am not ashamed to admit this because I believe my open letter will lack genuineness if it does not address these issues. It is from this perspective that some of us begun to discredit even the good deeds of government.

I, in particular found partners in the opposition who to a very large extent, champion politics of hate, malice and propaganda. They practice politics of hate, of paying a blind eye to the good deeds of those in government.

It is during my sickness that I realized that, what should set us apart are ideologies of how best to develop Zambia. If President Lungu is doing fine, I must recognize and applaud.

Today, I write to inform Zambians that as a member of the opposition alliance, I wish to state that from today going forward, my party People’s Party (PP) ceases to be part of politics of hate, malice and propaganda. I therefore, withdraw my membership of the Opposition Alliance. This has come after deep reflection and after realising that the initial agenda of the opposition alliance has been discarded and replaced with a sole goal of helping a certain party, UPND in particular to ascend to power in 2021.

From me and my family, we thank you all for your prayers and continued support.

Bulaya bridge in Lufwanyama district on verge of collapsing

14

Lufwanyama District Commissioner (DC), Miniver Mutesa says the Lufwanyama-Kitwe road will soon become impassable due to the poor state of Bulaya Bridge which is on the verge of collapsing.

Dr Mutesa made the observation after she visited the area situated on the west part of the district.

The DC who was franked by other district government officers, told ZANIS that part of the bridge has since been washed away.

She explained that the remaining part has developed cracks while, the road leading to the same bridge is also becoming impassable due to heavy downpour being experienced in the area.

Dr Mutesa said Bulaya Bridge which is across Kalulushi stream is the only crossing point connecting Lufwanyama’s Bulaya ward and Kalobwa area in Kitwe district.

She has since appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to quickly repair the bridge before the situation worsens.

Dr Mutesa emphasised that if left unchecked, the bridge might be completely washed away and cut off residents from accessing services like education, health and other important social amenities.

The DC further said she rushed to the scene after her office received numerous reports on the bridge.

Meanwhile, some of the residents talked to, described the situation as an eyesore especially for the young school going children who fail to attend classes whenever water overflows the crossing point.

ZAOU Students Impress President Lungu

Zambia’s Republican President Edgar Lungu has disclosed that he is personally thrilled that students from Zambian Open University, through their Students’ Union, have embraced Government’s message to transform into a Smart Zambia as evidenced by the launch of Zambia’s first ever students’ Union dynamic website which will contribute to the goals outlined by the President on 18th December, 2015.

In a message delivered during the launch of the launch of the Zambian Open University (ZAOU) Smart Zambia Students’ Project on 1st March, 2019, Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo, disclosed that Government supports the web-managed Student Revolving Fund that provides for small interest-free loans to vulnerable students as it is aimed at adopting a new paradigm to resolving students’ current and future challenges when it comes to mobilisation of funds and administration of grants.

“What is encouraging is that while other students have assumed that Government must solely be responsible for providing for their meal allowances and other monetary support, the launch of this feature will allow students, businesses, and members of the public, institutions within and outside Zambia to donate towards the Revolving Fund, which we must say is a brilliant initiative,” he said.

Government also noted the new electronic voting feature on the launched website. Mr. Kasolo said Government was aware that ZAOU Students Union will launch the first ever electronic voting for students that will enable all students to exercise their right to franchise and reduce on the low voter turn-out.

“Government is aware that democracy must begin to be practised from a tender age, from primary schools, secondary schools to university level. Once people begin to appreciate the essence of voting and putting in place a leadership that speaks to their interests, we shall develop a culture where citizens will take the national voting seriously,” said Mr. Kasolo.

Mr. Kasolo also disclosed that Government is pleased to note that Zambian students are getting involved in the country’s common vision for a Smart Zambia by leaving the past behind and embracing the positive attitudes in all their endeavours.

“Government is calling upon students countrywide to become more determined to changing the way we do things, behave and do things. The behaviour of a past student was one which hinged on being on the receiving end, in engaging in senseless and politically driven demonstrations but Government wants our students who will become more innovative and provide solutions as demonstrated by what the ZAOU Students Union has visibly been doing the last one year,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zambian Open University Students’ Union President Sam Mazaka says the ZAOU Students Unions is resolved to begin using ICT to promote learning, mobilise finances to help students who are marginalised by way of provision of small interest-free loans. Mr. Mazaka adds that the project will enable students to hand in assignments and allow students to vote for union leaders electronically in the next two few months when the functionality and security of the web-platform is tested.

Today’s Message: God Rescues You for Glory!

2

Today’s Scripture

“…I will not forget you. I have swept away your sins like a cloud. I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist…”
(Isaiah 44:21–22, NLT)

God Rescues You for Glory!

Down here in Texas, clouds don’t linger. They’re swept away by winds from the north or fresh breezes from the Gulf. That’s what God says about your sins, weaknesses and shortcomings—they’re swept away before you know it. God is a loving, forgiving, redeeming, life-changing God. So start agreeing with God and change the image you have of yourself. Instead of telling God what you can’t do, agree with what He says you can do! You can turn your entire life around if you look at yourself the way that God sees you and agree with His purpose. God is with you, so be fearless and victorious each day. Gideon, the great hero of the Bible, thought of himself as weak, but God called him a “mighty man of fearless courage.” The Bible says, “If you believe, all things are possible.” Get God’s vision of victory for your life. See yourself as the champion God created you to be—strong, courageous and successful!

A Prayer for Today

“God, thank You for seeing me as victorious and useful. Help me to stand under Your ideas and fulfill what You have for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Warriors end Zanaco’s unbeaten run, Power Dynamos rise to number one

0

Zanaco’s unbeaten start to the 2019 FAZ Super Division season ended on Saturday but they still stayed top of Pool A while Power Dynamos collected their third successive win to go top of Pool B.

At Godfrey ‘Ucar’Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe, ten-man Zanaco threw away a two-nil lead to go down 3-2 to still unbeaten Kabwe Warriors.

Striker Chitiya Mususu opened his 2019 season account with a brace for Zanaco in the 10th and 52nd minutes.

But Warriors’ rally began in the 63nd minute when Emmanuel Okutu scored his fourth of the season to move within two goals of current top scorer and Zanaco striker Rodgers Kola who was interestingly red carded a minute later for stomping on midfielder Patrick Kasunga.

Warriors then made full use of their numerical advantage when Twiza Chaibela equalized in the 70th minute and alter Prince Mumba wrapped-up the hosts’ good day in stoppage time.

Zanaco stay top despite the setback on 13 points, three points more than still unbeaten Warriors who are now second after moving from fourth place.

In Pool B, midfielder Larry Bwalya scored the lone goal in the 19th minute in Power’s 1-0 away win over winless and second from bottom placed Lumwana Radiants to sneak top of Pool B.

Power rise to 12 points, tied with Nkwazi who drop to second position on goal difference following a 2-0 home loss to Buildcon who moved from fourth to third on 11 points.

However, it took the last ten minutes of the second half for Buildcon to earn their victory at Edwin Emboela Stadium in Lusaka when Kingsley Kangwa put the ambitious Ndola side ahead in the 80th minute before Eleuter Mpepo completed the job in stoppage time.

Al Hilal captain says Group C is wide open

0

Al Hilal captain Abdel Latif Saeed Osman Ismaeil says Group C of the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup remains open ahead of Sunday’s match-day-four action.

Nkana lead Group C with six points, followed by Zesco United and Sudanese side Hilal who sits on four points apiece while Ghana’s Asante Kotoko are bottom with three points from three matches played.

Hilal host Zesco in Omdurman on Sunday with Nkana visiting Kotoko in Kumasi, Ghana on the same day.

Ismaeil believe all the four teams are still in the race to advance to the quarterfinals.

“It’s difficult to choose who is going to qualify to the quarterfinals because all the teams are good. As Hilal we still have time to qualify,” the defender said.

“It is difficult to say we are going to remove Nkana from the top. We just need to believe in ourselves,” Ismaeil said.

Hilal will face Nkana at home in their last group match on 17 March – a week after visiting Kotoko in their penultimate tie in Kumasi.

The Violent Amptutation Language of The UPND and Hichilema’s Analogy of “Alliance” Members Being Toes on his Tiny Feet

58

We reiterate what we have always held; for our democracy to thrive, the Patriotic Front (PF) as a ruling party needs worthy competition in the form of a credible and dignified opposition worth its salt; one that knows where it stands, where it wants to go and how it plans to get there.

In the interest of the development of our country, PF covets a contest of ideas; not the challenge of regional allegiance; nor competition of the thickness of volume of the opposition’s catalogue of sorcery; nor the championing of fake news or size and use of machetes practised by some.

Violence and intimidation – whether physical or verbal has no place in our democracy.

We say again; it is possible for various players in our body politic to disagree and have differences of opinion whilst maintaining mutual respect for each other.

With their twenty years in existence, the UPND has the longest experience as an opposition party that has never formed government in Zambia and probably the world over. More maturity is therefore expected from them and their leader who having usurped leadership of his party in 2006, is also one of the longest serving opposition leaders in the world such that even Wikipedia refers to him as _“A perennial presidential candidate, having contested five times and lost all: in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2016”.

More of maturity and less of violent juvenile tendencies is therefore expected from one with such a elongated record in the political arena.

VIOLENT LANGUAGE COMES FROM VIOLENT MINDS

As custodians of democracy, we are consequently appalled at the manner in which Mr Hakainde Hichilema and his spawn of briefcase political parties unceremoniously ejected their erstwhile partner- Andyford Banda and his Peoples Alliance for Change (PAC).

Like many other right thinking citizens, we note the demeaning language Hichilema’s seedy mouthpiece used in the process. Why does violent language and savagery in the form of analogies related with inflicting pain roll so easily off the tongue Mr Hakainde Hichilema and his pack of whatsapp based “alliance” “partners”?

It is extremely offensive how without provocation, Hichilema’s association of one man political parties disparagingly referred to their ex associate -Andyford Banda and PAC as an “infected toe” that needed to be “amputated”.

It is very clear that Sean Tembo, Elias Chipimo et al have quickly become students of violence and aggressive language from the Master of violent savagery and deceit; whose political career was born in the cradle of the infamous Mapatizya formula formula of brutality.

Hackings, machetes and gruesome blood thirsty thoughts are second nature to them; they breathe violence; eat violence; drink violence and violently think about amputating those that don’t agree with their leader’s violent mood swings.

OUR OBSERVATION OF THE “ALLIANCE” AS HICHILEMA’S USEFUL IDIOTS VINDICATED

It has been said: “if you want to know how the crocodile lives under the water, ask the Hippo”.

The recent reaction to the “amputation” from PAC provides an insider’s view that vindicates what Zambians have always observed – that the so called “alliance” is merely an association of Hichilema’s useful idiots.

After he was verbally hacked, and emotionally butchered, an “amputated” Andyford Banda in his response stated;

  • “We noticed that the opposition alliance started dealing with issues that were very much outside the scope of the formation.
  • It is at that point that we knew that we were about to be used some people for very personal agendas.
  • The alliance started dealing with too many issues and we were slowly becoming one political party.”
  • “…the alliance had no strategy; there was a serious lack of planning, no clear timetable._
  • The alliance started focusing on issues that had nothing to do with the formation of the alliance and issues that clearly seemed to be an agenda to push the interest of one alliance member; …”

A naïve and gullible Andyford and his PAC discovered the hard way why the late President Levy Mwanawasa on Pages 211-212 of his memoirs described Hichilema as: _*“an opportunist, a cheat and one that was not truthful”.*_

For over twenty years the UPND has had a gruesome history of violence. They have been violent from the time Sean Tembo and Andyford Banda were probably still learning civic education or social studies in school!

UPND were champions and perpetrators of violence even before PF was born!

They championed violence from the MMD administrations of Presidents Mwanawasa and Rupiah Banda right through to PF administrations of our founding father President Michael Chilufya Sata and the incumbent His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

While PF is a vanguard of Statecraft; some others are champions of political “witchcraft”.

IF THE ALLIANCE PARTNERS ARE TOES, THEN WHO IS THE FETID TINY FOOT?

The Alliance’s language is very pompous and disrespectful.
It stems from a twisted superiority complex; it is fetid.

If PAC was just a toe in the “alliance” as the mouthpiece alleges; then what is Elias Chipimo the “yes-man” – is he the subservient pinkie toe of the UPND life President?

What about Charles Milupi- is he the calloused and time-worn bunion on the big toe of his master’s tiny feet?

What then is Sean Tembo- is he the smelly fungus that is spreading the rancid whiff from his paymaster’s small feet?

FINALY BRETHREN

Political parties and alliances are entities that are subject to public scrutiny and accountability. Our observations of the “alliance” acrimonious “amputation” of PAC should not be misconstrued or manipulated by the “alliance”.

While PAC is a fledgling opposition party and we do not share any ties with them, we note that their sentiments on civility agree with our long held outlook that we have carried on behalf of the majority of millions of Zambians; that our country needs a noble kind of politics; away from fake news, misinformation, scandal-mongering and violence that the “alliance” is pursuing to satisfy the manic cravings of one stunted eccentric.

Unfortunately, the UPND life President with his Party and “alliance” tag-alongs with their violence, maiming and amputations, being the misfits they are, do not fit into such a noble picture of politics.

The PF development agenda is premised on a mission with a clear vision seen through the clear lenses of the PF Manifesto, 7NDP and vision 2030.

We have so far been deprived of an opposition of excellence and integrity.

We are however cognisant that like everything and everybody else under the heavens; we are not perfect as we are subject to the vagaries of life in this world. We therefore welcome constructive criticism; in the same way we abhor cynicism with its off shoots of malice, violence and fake news.

We sincerely yearn for a contest of policy and ideas, from other political parties who are supposed to represent an alternative government (such as the UPND). We echo our challenge to them for noble politics; we challenge them to play the role of a proposition party.

How can they scream “dialogue” when they tried to block passage for the Presidential Motorcade in Sesheke?

How can they take “Zambia Forward” when they do not even have a manifesto?

How can the “alliance” be an alliance when the relationships are clearly founded on unequal terms?

How can the alliance be relevant to Zambia’s development agenda when it is promoting fake news locally and internationally and pushing for civil unrest to fulfil the violent agenda of one man?

We continue to hold that it is possible for various players in our body politic to disagree and have differences of opinion whilst maintaining mutual respect for each other; But it requires honesty.

That is what Patriotic Front strives for.

Any amendments to the constitution will represent the will of the people in Zambia -Lubinda

Given Lubinda at the 7th edition of the World congress against death penalty,
Given Lubinda at the 7th edition of the World congress against death penalty,

Government says it is committed to ensuring that any amendments to the constitution represent the will of the people.

Speaking in Brussels at the just ended 7th edition of the World congress against death penalty, Minister of Justice, Hon. Given Lubinda says although government is in support of the UN declaration of human rights and the abolishing of the death penalty, the will of the people has to be respected.

He said unlike other laws that could easily be amended, the death penalty is a constitutional matter that could only be amended through a referendum.

Mr Lubinda revealed that during a referendum to abolish capital punishment, only 9 out of the 72 districts supported the abolishment.

He explains that although death penalty is still being upheld in the country’s constitution, no Zambian leader has signed it since 1997.

The minister also explained that since assuming office, Republican President His Excellency Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu has so far pardoned 3 prisoners and commuted 332 prisoners on death row to life imprisonment.

“We have heard that Presidents are not signing warrants of execution this is because even in Africa politicians are saying NO to death penalty. Globally we have agreed that we are going to end the death penalty but what is happening in our sovereign states is different. As the case is in my country, we have had a moratorium for the last 22 years, in which 600 prisoners on death row were commuted to life imprisonment and 30 were pardoned. From 2011 to 2016 my country was going through a constitution review process and the question of the death penalty was put to the people because it is enshrined in our country’s constitution. We as law makers cannot just go to parliament and amend the constitution.

The Zambian government is committed to ensure that the constitution represent the will of the people through a referendum. We are a government that is always listening to the collective wisdom of our citizens, and if they decide to vote for the retention of the death penalty, we do just that”, he explains.

He has since called on the Human Rights activists and Civil Society Organisations to partner with political leaders and government in the move to abolish capital punishment.

The world is on the move towards the universal abolition of the death penalty. As of July 2018, 142 countries had abolished capital punishment either by law or practice representing two thirds of the countries while 56 countries have retained the practise.

The World Congress against the Death Penalty, an essential meeting of abolitionist activists, encourages countries to make concrete commitments, mobilizes public opinion and helps to develop common strategies.

The 7th edition of the conference that was organised by Ensemble Contre la Peine de Mort -ECPM in partnership with the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty and under the sponsorship of Belgium, the European Parliament, Switzerland and the European Union attracted 1500 delegates from 115 countries across the globe representing senior government officials, Community activists, lawyers defending death row inmates, political leaders, parliamentarians.

Roland Msiska apologies to Civil Servants whose toes he stepped on badly

Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska

Roland Msiska has apologized to all those he offended in the last 6 years he has been serving as Secretary to the Cabinet of the Zambian government.

Dr. Msiska has confessed that they are some civil servants whose toes he stepped on in very bad ways during his tenure.

Speaking during a farewell dinner organized in his honor in Lusaka, Dr. Msiska disclosed that whatever he did that offended others was not intentional but that he meant good.

Dr. Msiska, who has been reassigned to head the Zambia Atomic Agency (ZAMTOM), has acknowledged that for the fact he is human he is however bound to make mistakes.

He says his hope therefore is that all those who hold anything against him will accept his apology and move on.

And Dr. Msiska has urged permanent secretaries that worked under him to support his successor Patrick Kangwa, who has been appointed Acting Secretary to the Cabinet.

He has advised them and all other civil servants to encourage Mr. Kangwa, who is also the Deputy Secretary to Cabinet, to be what he is as his appointment is about consolidation.

Meanwhile Dr. Msiska has thanked late President Michael Sata and President Edgar Lungu for appointing him and retaining him to the position of Secretary to the Cabinet respectively.

He states that it has been a honor for him to serve in this position as he believes Zambia is a great Republic.

Speaking at the same farewell dinner Mr. Kangwa who hailed his achievements and initiatives, admitted that Dr. Msiska’s patriotism to Zambia cannot be measured.

Mr. Kangwa has recalled that during his tenure, Dr. Msiska served the nation with passion, commitment and honesty in addition to providing guidance in public service matters with wisdom and maturity.

And Civil Service Commission chairperson Dickson Kayula Chasaya praised what he has referred to as the humility Dr. Msiska exhibited in his role as Secretary to the Cabinet.

Other farewell tributes during the dinner were made by among others Dr. Msiska’s former immediate staff and permanent secretary for Internal Audit Joyce Phiri Sundano.

Lwandamina upbeat Were will be fit to face Al Hilal

0

Zesco United coach George Lwandamina is optimistic striker Jesse Were will be fit to face Al Hilal in Sunday’s crucial CAF Confederation Cup Group C match away in Sudan against Al Hilal.

Were has leg injury since arriving in Khartoum on Thursday where Zesco have already held two training sessions at the Sudan Academy of Strategic and Security Studies before their final one this evening at the match venue in Omdurman.

“All those that are here are ready for selection. We had Jesse limping but he is doing what everyone is doing in training,” Lwandamina said.

“So I may say he is somewhere around 70 percent fit but we still have a day and the medical team will still be able to work on him…meaning that everyone will be ready.”

Were has scored five goals in continental competition for Zesco this season and is one behind Lazarus Kambole.

Meanwhile, Zesco head into the match seeking to return to winning ways and probably reclaim top spot in Group C after a two-match winless spell in which they have garnered just one point.

Zesco dropped from first to third after they rallied at home on February 24 to hold ten-man Al Hilal 1-1 in Ndola are tied on 4 points with their hosts who are second.

Nkana, who face bottom placed Asante Kotoko on Sunday away in Kumasi, are top of Group C on 6 points while their Ghanaian hosts are bottom on 3 points.

And Zesco also need to get a confidence boosting result away this weekend ahead of their penultimate Group C match away to Nkana on March 10 in Kitwe.

Lusaka City Council wants the 65 years lease of Luburma Market to a Chinese firm revoked

22
Kamwala Market

Minister of Local Government Vincent Mwale has disclosed that Lusaka City Council has declared a dispute with China Henan, the managers of Luburma Market in Lusaka.

In a statement issued in Lusaka, M. Mwale said in 2001, China Henan were given exclusive rights to manage the market for a period of 65 years in a signed lease agreement.

Mr Mwale said the lease agreement stipulated that it was the responsibility of China Henan to improve the structures and keep the premises in good state of repair during the management period.

Mr Mwale said the agreement provided for regular review to ensure that terms and conditions were abided by, but he said this has not been done in the last 15 years.

He said the Lusaka City Council was however forced to initiate the review of this agreement following serious concerns and perceived breach of the terms of the long-term agreement.

He said the matter has since been referred to an arbitration process.

Losing PF candidate in the recently held Sesheke parliamentary by-election Dean Masule has asked the Lusaka High Court to declare the election of UPND’s Romeo Kangombe as null and void.

This is according to a petition filed in the Lusaka High Court Registry by Masule who came out second with 3, 640 votes against Kangombe’s 8, 496.

In his petition, the ruling party member wants the court to declare Kangombe’s election null and void on grounds that the election was characterized by political violence.

According to Masule, the campaigns in the said elections were characterized by undue influence that resulted from threats and violence to life and property and rampant physical attacks on the members of the PF and the general public, resulting in severe injuries to persons and property.

He further claims that the said acts of violence resulted in several people being occasioned with several injuries and being treated in hospitals and most of the perpetrators of the violence being arrested by the police.

Masule recalls that on January 10, 2019, PF member Evans Chakwanda had his motor vehicle, registration number AJC 6658, stoned by suspected UPND cadres and was allegedly beaten with sticks and short batons.

He states that another incident was on January 23 where suspected UPND cadres allegedly removed his campaign posters.

Masule adds that another incident occurred on February 2 where several of his cadres were allegedly attacked by UPND cadres at Lusa Ward camp, which resulted into several attacks and damage to one of their motor vehicles, among many incidents in Mulimambango, Katima Mulilo and Kalobobelwa Wards.

The petitioner has since accused Kangombe of having acknowledged in the News Diggers newspaper that the elections were not free and fair as they were marred by political violence.
