The Church in Zambia has called for stiffer laws placed on the circulation of obscene materials which have characterized various platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook.
Zambia Council for Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Director Winfield Kunda says immorality should not be entertained in a Christian nation like
Zambia. He added that all well-meaning Zambians should support the move by government to implement cyber laws in the country.
He noted that people have freedom of accessing social media but should be responsible on how they use the social platforms.
Fr. Kunda added that biblically, God demands for responsibility on moral values and people should strive to follow what the bible
teaches. He further appealed to parents to take keen interest and ensure that their children are not exposed to such offensive materials.
He noted that parents should monitor and inculcate good morals in the children who the future leaders, adding that such materials have a negative impact on the future generation.Fr. Kunda has described the obscene material involving Zambian women as a shame to the country, and disrespect to the women folk.
And Independent Churches of Zambia (ICOZ) Board Chairperson David Masupa said the Church is saddened over the exposure of Zambian women
involved in pornographic videos.
Reverend Masupa said that Law Enforcement Agencies should help the nation by tracking the phone numbers of the culprits who are involved in pornography and those who circulate to ensure that they are brought to book.He also called upon various churches to desist from preaching on prosperity adding that they must shift their preaching to the risks of immorality behavior.
Reverend Masupa said some churches have dwelled so much on prosperity messages that has led congregants to forget about the national moral values. He further noted with concern that some women are exposing their bodies and corrupting the actualization of the Christian national value.
Recently a number of videos of naked women have gone viral on social media after they were promised huge sums of money for participating in pornography.
The Muslim Social Welfare Trust of Zambia and the Hansene International Project of Germany have been commended for supplementing government’s efforts in helping the vulnerable communities in rural areas.
Rufunsa District Commissioner Judith Chama said though Zambia is a Christian nation, it embraces all religions and appreciates the
support rendered by various stakeholders in uplifting the well-being of vulnerable people in the country.
ZANIS reports that Mrs Chama said the donation of food items by the Muslim community to Kulala Bena Action for children Zambia orphanage has come at a right time when people are receiving relief maize from government.
The Rufunsa District Commissioner was speaking when the Muslim Social Welfare Trust of Zambia in partnership with the Hasene International Project of Germany donated pre packed packs of 3Kg beef meat worth thousands of Kwachas to Kulala Bena Action for Children Zambia Orphanage, some elderly people in the community and vulnerable people in Rufunsa district today.
She said government appreciates the support it is receiving from co-operating partners such as the Muslim community in helping the
vulnerable in society.

Local government and Housing Minister Vincent Mwale, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya, President Special assistant Amos Chanda , Water and Energy ministry PS Bishop Edward Chomba and Health Minister PS -administration Dr Kennedy Malama during a joint press conference at the Ndeke House boardroom
Civil rights activist Laura Miti has appealed to President Edgar Lungu to fire State House Spokesman Amos Chanda.
And Former State House Principal Private Secretary Jack Kalala says Mr Chanda is embarrassing President Edgar Lungu with his uncouth behavior.
Reacting to revelations that Mr Chanda used some unpalatable and disparaging words against NDC Consult Chishimba Kambwili, Ms. Miti said President Lungu should fire Mr Chanda immediately.
“I finally heard the Amos Chanda and Chishimba Kambwili audio. I hope the President realises that, if he keeps Amos in that job, he will send a message to the nation that the very top of our country is rotten,” Ms. Miti said.
She added, “In one audio, Amos rolled back many years of the fight against HIV/AIDS stigma. He also poked holes into a presidency that presents itself as God-fearing. He essentially made it impossible for him to pronounce on so many matters without listeners raising their collective eyebrows.”
Ms. Miti stated that Mr Chanda if the presidency would like for citizens to believe they are respected.
“At the very least, he should be transfered to other responsibilities in government.”
“How can someone whose job is top level diplomacy and decorum string so many foul words together? I honestly think Amos should go for therapy. That outburst is worrying,”Ms Miti said.
And Mr Jack Kalala who served as Principal Private Secretary to late President Levy Mwanawasa said the coarse and vulgar language is unbecoming of a person holding the office Amos Chanda holds.
Mr Kalala said such language and reaction from a State House serving officer is unprecedented.
“It’s intolerable, unacceptable and unforgivable,” Mr Kalala said.
“My advice to the young man, Amos Chanda, is that he shouldn’t use such coarse language. He is embarrassing the President and the Government. In addition the matter of Tedai Biti was for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs, certainly not State House, to comment on,” Mr Kalala said.
In an audio message circulating on social media, Mr Chanda phoned Mr. Kambwili lash insults at him in retaliation to the constant theft accusation Mr Kambwili has been unleashing on the State House officials.
Over the weekend, Mr Chanda had described Mr. Kambwili as a stupid stinky rabid dog, whose illness was affecting the big but empty head; prompting the member of parliament to respond through an article published by News Diggers, saying he would forgive the Press Aide whom he also described as a confused boy who was looking frail, dehydrated and grey as a result of whatever he was suffering from.
This response apparently angered Mr. Chanda further, who yesterday called Mr. Kambwili to spit out more ‘unprintables’.
Trade Kings Group is extending its production capacity with a $40 million detergent plant in the Multi Facility Economic Zone.
Trade Kings, the leading FMCG group in Zambia today announced the investment in new $40 million detergent manufacturing facilities to be located in the Multi Economic Facility Zone in Lusaka. The plant will be the largest manufacturing plant for powder detergents and other household products in sub-Saharan Africa.
This investment will address one of the key challenges in the economy – dumping and smuggling of low quality detergents from neighboring markets such as Tanzania. The low price of dumped goods allows imported products to gain unfair market share. It also creates artificial indication of gaps in the market and industry.
“This new facility will enable significant expansion of our production capacity in Zambia and this will contribute to curb malpractices such as dumping” said the Group General Manager, Luximinarayanan Subramaniam’’. We are aware the government is in the process of drafting the Trade Remedy Act to protect the domestic industries from the adverse consequences of dumping; this will enhance the Trade Defence Measures in the market place.
Through this investment, we will strengthen our manufacturing division of the group, which in addition to its regular activities is developing applications to address challenges and opportunities. This will in turn contribute to employment creation for the Zambian People.
The detergent manufacturing machines will include systems and equipment used to produce various forms of detergent powders. With the advancement of technology, the manufacturing techniques are continuously evolving and the group as part of its growth strategy has purposed to remain current with the technology to continue producing effective detergents for different cleaning applications.
It will cover a production area of about 30,000 square metres and enable an increase in the tonnage produced.
To authenticate the business being truly Zambian, Trade Kings Group is contributing to the drive of the industrialization policy that is designed to address issues of productive capacity for enterprises to promote the production and consumption of local products. We have responded to the championing of speeding up of industrialization process in the country by his Excellency the President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. We recognise the support both from the Ministry of Commerce and Trade and the Zambia Manufacturing Association. Our commitment to the Proudly Zambian Campaign remains unrivaled as demonstrated by our business strategy.
The Trade Kings Group has in the 20 years of its existence since inception, through its flagship brand BOOM, set a trend of locally produced quality and affordable products. The major variables influencing detergent brand choice in the Zambian market is attitudinal variables such as perception regarding the efficacy (QUALITY) of the brand, closely followed by the perception on the value for-money (PRICE).
The business is confident that the expansion will contribute to Economies of Scale, reduction of production costs that in turn results in lower prices for consumers. The Group states that various economies of scale will be achieved including in technical, specialisation of workforce, marketing, financial and purchasing.
This investment will see Trade Kings Group grow further in the regional market. By 2050, 60 percent of Africa’s population will be urbanised. Some of the fastest growing cities, including Dar es Salaam, Kinshasa, Luanda, and Addis Ababa, are in some of Africa’s fastest growing economies. Further, we have just commissioned a state of the art detergent factory in Zimbabwe as part of our expansion programme.
There are many other factors working specifically in favour of the emerging fast-moving consumer goods sector in Africa: (1) urbanisation (2) duties and pricing, and (3) local preferences, and (4) branding.
Most importantly, urbanisation is shaping the nature of demand and distribution for soaps and detergents. It is vital to this particular market as most urban consumers are consumers of manufactured soaps and detergents whereas there are still big rural populations that make their own forms of soap from locally available resources. As rural populations decrease and become urbanised, their tastes switch as result of more time dedicated to their work and their changing lifestyles. Trade Kings, with our goal of improving lives, are constantly responding to changes in lifestyles and tastes and our recent launch of BOOM Auto, specifically designed for use in washing machines, is just one such innovation.

A Speed Limit Cameras installed under a tree along Great East Road
Former Transport and Communications Minister, William Harrington says concerns by members of the public on the newly introduced road traffic speed cameras are genuine.
Mr. Harrington says while these cameras are meant to help reduce traffic accidents, there should have been more sensitization on their installation.
In a walk-in interview with QTV News, Mr. Harrington is of the view that the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) should have put signage on roads where these cameras have been installed.
He says he believes that the RTSA should be about regulating road traffic through education as opposed to imposing punitive fines on contravening motorists.
Mr. Harrington has also suggested to the RTSA to also consider increasing the speed limit on the Great East Road from the current 60 kilometers per hour to 80 kilometers.
He believes that a speed limit of 80 Kilometers per hour on a road like the Great East Road is reasonable as it is neither too fast nor too slow

The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) says the country has recorded an improved business environment in the last six months.
ZACCI President Michael Nyirenda attributed the continued improvement in business to rising copper prices on the international market as well as an increased injection of liquidity on the local market.
Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr Nyirenda said that ZACCI had sampled over 200 of its members from all sectors of the economy across the country and all indicated that their business trading environment had improved.
According to the ZACCI business confidence index, business in the first quarter of 2018 suffered from the cholera outbreak, and stiff competition from imported goods.
However business has substantially increased by 44.2 points rising from 124.3 points to 168.5 points due to favourable copper prices and increased liquidity injection in the economy.
Mr Nyirenda praised government for reducing the lending policy rate and statutory reserves which have stimulated business activities and growth on the economy.
The ZACCI President however lamented that closure of businesses on the last Saturday of the month in line with the Keep Zambia clean, green campaign is affecting sales and revenue generation from most businesses.
Mr Nyirenda added that ZACCI has since engaged government and the line ministry to explore amicable ways of addressing the matter, to satisfy both business and civic interests.
He called on the authority to be consistent with policies in order to promote economic activity and secure long term foreign investments in the country.
Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development Moses Mawere has appealed to the corporate world to partner with his ministry in order to help finance the development of minor sport in Zambia.
Mawere told ZANIS in an interview that the ministry is calling on more stakeholders to come on board and help finance the challenges of finding resources for the sports team to take part in international tournaments.
He said government always has difficulties in single-handedly finding resources to sponsor sports associations whenever they are competitions.
Mawere said his ministry and other stakeholders must partner in finding a way forward in raising money that will target the development of sports in the country.
He said through partnerships between his ministry and stakeholders, grassroots sports in all parts of the country especially schools will be effectively developed.
Meanwhile Mawere commended the national netball team for coming out in fourth place at the just ended 2018 Africa Netball Cup held at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
He said despite Zambia not winning the tournament and qualifying for the World Cup, the netball team put up a good performance.

Mr. Chipango addressing civil servants
The Civil Service Commission has warned that it will not hesitate to dismiss any officer found frustrating government’s efforts in delivering quality service to the people.
Commission Vice Chairperson, Hillary Chipango said the commission will not hesitate to take punitive action against any officer found wanting.
Mr. Chipango said civil servants have a mandate to support and work with the government of the day in implementing policies and programmes that will transform people’s lives.
He said the behavior of some officers is negatively impacting on effective service delivery to the people they are entrusted to serve thereby, making the people suffer.
Speaking when he addressed civil servants in Solwezi yesterday, Mr Chipango said the commission will be undertaking a countrywide transfer of officers who have overstayed in their stations.
