Zesco refute hiring Kenyan coach

3

Zesco United have refuted reports they have line-up ex-Kenya coach Stanley Okumbi as their new head coach.

Goal.com reports that Okumbi, who was relegated to the Kenya U20 team this month, has been handed a three-year deal by Zesco.

Zesco CEO Richard Mulenga said Okumbi is not their preferred candidate to take over from Tenant Chembo who has been in interim charge since Zlatko Krmpotic was suspended last October.

Chembo went on to guide Zesco to the 2017 FAZ Super Division title.

“The story on goal.com is false. We have not appointed any Kenyan coach. Zesco will this week unveil the head coach. We never advertised this job so there are no one applied,” Mulenga said

Transfer of Married Teachers can disrupt families, Government told

6

The Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) has called on the Ministry of General Education to scrutinize the marital status of teachers requesting to be transferred from one school to another.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS today, PROTUZ Public Relations Officer Matthews Nkhata said that in as much as transfers can have positive impacts in the education sectors, it has a lot of negative effects on the family setup if not handled very well.

Mr. Nkhata says delivery of service from the teacher who has left been separated from family and the spouse due to a transfer can also be affected as they might not fully concentrate in their teaching.

“The transfer of married couples separately tends to lead to the breaking of the family, lack of total concentration when conducting lessons and the breeding of extra-marital affairs even with school going children, “ he said.

He has since appealed to the ministry of general education to critically consider the aspect of family setup before transferring a teacher from one town to another.

Mr. Nkhata explained that his organisations is not against the transfer of teachers but places emphasis on government conducting the transfers according to the stipulated conditions of service and in a better way.

He stated that it is important for government to consider aspects such as the marital status of the teachers, accommodation facilities and also government conducting transparent transfers unlike those spear headed by school administration not being in good books with certain teachers.

Mr. Nkhata added that it is also important that government ensures the provision of certain conditions of service on transferred teachers such as the provision of settling allowances and decent accommodation as it is important in the performance of any individual.

Last government through announced that 2018 will see massive transfers of teachers across the country.

Dr. Wanchinga explained that the transfer of teachers from one town to the other would be aimed at reducing residence monotony for teachers that have overstayed in one part of the country.

Zesco dismantle 10-man Buildcon

1

Zesco United sent a stern warning to their rivals and pretenders alike on Sunday when they knockout the ambitious ten men of Buildcon to a 3-1 away loss at Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola.

The Ndola derby was Zesco’s first league match of the season after missing the first two rounds of the 2018 FAZ Super Division campaign due to their 2018 CAF Champions League engagements in March.

Goals from Adams Zikiru, Jesse Were and Lazarus Kambole saw Zesco rally from one-down at halftime following a first 45 minutes in which Buildcon had their tails up led by Captain Chisamba Lungu.

But Zesco coach Tenant Chembo made two crucial changes that went on to define the sides’ comeback against Buildcon.

Zikiru came on for a still off -form Enock Sabamukumana in the 39th minute while Were replaced Winston Kalengo in the 57th minute.
Zikiru repaid the faith when he equalized from a header in the 52nd minute off a cross from Lameck Banda.

Were made it 2-1 in the 68th minute after waltzing through Buildcon’s’ porous backline.

Buildcon were later reduced to ten men in the 77th minute when Zimbabwe international Devon Chaffa was sent-off for a second booking following a two-footed crunching tackle on Banda.

It got from bad to worse for Buildcon in the 84th minute when they concede a penalty when Nqobizitha Masuku elected to play goalkeeper after intercepting the ball before a dangerous pass from Were could reach Zikiru lurking on the far end.

Kambole dispatched the penalty and send Buildcon to their second worst league defeat after another 3-0 derby loss last September away at the same venue at the hands of Forest Rangers.

Buildcon are second from bottom of the table in 19th place and also winless on zero points from two games.

Meanwhile, Forest finally decided to play on Sunday after chickening-out on last weekend’s away date against Nkana that saw the latter handed a walkover win.

Forest beat Lumwana Radiants 1-0 in the lunch time kickoff at the same venue courtesy of an 84th minute goal from Damiano Kola.

Lumwana have one point from three games played so far this term.

Cuban Mission would continue to function, President Lungu is only interested in removing Ambassador Vilas

Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has said that the Cuban Mission would continue to exist as President Edgar Lungu was only interested in removing Ambassador Nelson Pages Vilas for breaching international diplomatic practice.

“The Cuban diplomatic mission continues to exist, the President has requested a recall of one individual, and that is the ambassador. We are taking exactly what he said, he attended and offered his best wishes and his support to the opposition Socialist Party so the request is for the removal of one diplomat and this is His Excellency the ambassador who apparently just presented his credentials on Thursday.”

Mr Chanda said that President Lungu has decided to ask the Cuban government to recall its Zambian envoy Nelson Pages Vilas for openly declaring his support for the opposition Socialist Party.

“The Cuban Ambassador attended a party function and announced at that function that he will support the opposition party that has been formed, the Socialist Party. He wished them well and went further to announce that they have his support, that contravenes established diplomatic practice.”

“An ambassador is accredited to the government of the Republic of Zambia, he is never accredited to any political party, not even the ruling party. He cannot speak and offer open support to any political formation, he can’t do that even to the ruling party,” said Chanda.

Mr Chanda said it was a clear red light for Ambassador Vilas, who was only accredited last week, to declare his support for the opposition party led by former Post editor-in-chief Dr Fred M’membe.

Chanda said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been instructed the process to recall him.

“I called you to brief you on one important decision that the President has made with regards to the conduct of the Cuban Ambassador to Zambia.”

“The President has directed that the Cuban Ambassador be recalled, the Foreign Affairs Ministry must make all procedures today to start the process of the recall of the Cuban Ambassador. That is, the sending state must recall the Cuban Ambassador for behavior unbecoming of a diplomat. This relates to his involvement in partisan politics which is totally in contravention of established diplomatic practice,” Chanda said.

“The President has instructed the permanent secretary foreign affairs to call in the ambassador and inform him of this decision. It is quite extraordinary that of all people, the Cuban Ambassador himself knows that in Cuba, the opposition is not just resented, it is totally absent.”

“You would expect that the Cuban ambassador would know that diplomatic practice prohibits that kind of behavior. An ambassador ought to have known that that is a clear red line. So a decision has been made for the Zambian government to request the Cuban government to recall their ambassador for behavior that is contrary to that which is expected of a diplomat.”

“Conduct unbecoming of a diplomat is the official reason for which the Zambian government, particularly the president has taken this decision.”

PF Government Should Seriously Draw Lessons from the Deportation of Late President Sata from Malawi

The announcement by Chief Government Spokesperson and Information Minister, Hon. Dora Siliya that the PF Government deported nine foreign nationals for attempting to get into the country to witness the launch of Fred Mmembe’s Socialist Party is terrible news. In fact, it is proof that the PF has not drawn any lessons from the deportation of the late leader Michael Sata from Malawi years back.

As the nation will recall, in March 2007, the late Michael Sata – then the opposition leader leading the PF – travelled to Malawi for a private visit, but was deported on arrival at Chileka Airport without the Malawi Government stating the reasons for deportation and was driven 400 kilometers back to Zambia.

Four years later, Sata was elected President of the Republic of Zambia. What happened next? The newly-elected President Sata snubbed his Malawian counterpart Bingu wa Mutharika’s invitation to attend the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) summit in protest against the Mutharika government’s 2007 deportation.

What happened thereafter? Six months later, President Mutharika died suddenly after a heart attack and late President Sata donated five million liters of fuel to Malawi then worth about US$6 million. The gift was apparently to help with funeral of the country’s late President Mutharika. As fate turned out then, there was a serious fuel crisis in Malawi.

First, it was the deportation of Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimani mid last year who had travelled to Zambia for private visit. And now, it is the deportation of nine invited guests of Socialist Party leader Fred Mmembe. Yet, PF in opposition, and government, has sent its leaders and cadres to other countries around the world to attend meetings and make presentation of the party’s political and ideological dispositions. Beside the Malawi incidence, none has ever been deported on their numerous outings in Africa, China and elsewhere in the world.

One of the famous lessons from Confucius, who lived around 450 B.C., is the importance of active engagement and real time experiences in learning. As intelligent species, humans need to understand themselves in the context of their past and future, and to see the interplay of past and future, and how coming to grips with the past is important for the future.

As the Green Party, we earnestly urge our colleagues in the PF to have an in-depth reflection of the wealth of past experiences to inform their future methodological decision-making in government. We urge them to always seek to draw out the lessons from their experiences of the past so as to inform future practice. Lessons learned should draw on both positive and negative experiences so as to improve their efficiency, and most importantly, benefits of our people in the present and in future.

Today’s Message: Same Spirit, Same Power

6

Today’s Scripture

“And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.”
(Romans 8:11, AMP)

Same Spirit, Same Power

When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit makes His home inside of you. That’s God Himself, the same Spirit with the same power that raised Jesus from the dead! His resurrection power can bring back health, strength and life to your physical body. He can restore hope and breathe life into your dreams. In fact, He can resurrect any area that may seem dormant on the inside of you!

The next time you feel overwhelmed by sickness, challenges or despair, remember, the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you through Christ Jesus. You may have been burdened by an addiction, fear or worry, but there’s nothing that can stand against the power of God. Rise up and declare by faith, “He whom the Son sets free is free indeed. I am restored and healed in the name of Jesus! No weapon formed against me can prosper!” Receive His truth, declare the Word, and activate His power within you!

A Prayer for Today

“Father in heaven, thank You for filling me with Your power by the Holy Spirit. I choose to feed my faith by declaring Your Word. I choose to walk in Your ways and honor You in everything I do in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
