Cleric advises Zambians to work hard to succeed

1

A clergyman has advised Zambians to work hard saying this is the only gateway to achieving social and economic development in the country.

Pillars of Fire Prophetic Ministries Church pastor-in-charge Kelvin Chikonde observed that people should not be discouraged by beliefs that someone is holding their destiny but should instead work hard for their success.

Prophet Chikonde said God has all the powers to disengage any bondage as long as people remain loyal and focused in life.

Prophet Chikonde explained this when he launched a branch of Pillars of Fire Prophetic Ministries Church in Lusaka’s Chalala area today.

The launch of the church that is headquartered in the Copperbelt province attracted a crowd that turned up to witness the power of God through prophesy.

“Some of you have got bondages because people put an alter on your life and I urge you to be focused and work hard in life. God alone will deliver and bless you forever. What is important is you to have a strong covenant with God and all shall be well,” he stressed.

Prophet Chikonde, who based his sermon on the book of Second Kings Chapter 1 vs 11- 17, emphasised that God has the powers to halt any challenges people are facing.

The launch of the branch was characterized by praise and worship as well as live performances by Christine Malembe and her dancing queens and kings.

The launch of the Lusaka branch of the Pillars of Fire Prophetic Ministries Church comes few days before Zambia commemorates the national day of prayer, fasting and reconciliation slated for Monday 18th October 2021.

Kasama MP pledges to meet people’s aspirations

1

Kasama Central Member of Parliament (MP) Sibongile Mwamba has pledged to closely work with councilors in the constituency to foster change in Kasama district.

Ms. Mwamba said in an interview that councilors are indispensable players in national governance.

She said she cannot afford to work in isolation towards delivering on her campaign promises.

“I will work closely with councilors to develop Kasama Central. Let us change the face of Kasama together,” Ms. Mwamba said.

She said she will work to the best of her abilities to provide solutions to the various challenges Kasama district is facing, adding that she will do this by embracing all stakeholders.

Ms. Mwamba has since commended the people of Kasama Central constituency for giving her the mandate to represent them in parliament.

“I am grateful to the people of Kasama for the resounding victory they gave me in the August 12 general elections. I also want to thank paramount chief Chitimukulu for his support,” Ms. Mwamba said.

Ms. Mwamba further said she will ably represent the people of Kasama in parliament.

“I will speak for the people of Kasama in parliament. We need to move forward. Let us unite in developing Kasama,” she said.

She said youth unemployment, lack of electricity in some rural parts of Kasama, poor road network, lack of all-inclusive empowerment programmes as well as high prices of fertiliser and essential goods are some of the areas that need urgent attention from the new dawn government.

“The UPND has promised free education, jobs and empowerment to our people which it should deliver so that their lives can change for the better,” she said.

Ms. Mwamba has since assured the people of Kasama of servant-centred leadership as she strives to meet their developmental aspirations.

Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu warns Police Officers still mounting road blocks

26

Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu has warned that his ministry will not tolerate any traffic police officers defying instructions not to mount roadblocks.

Mr. Mwiimbu said the police can still exercise their duty of ensuring law and order on roads using various ways such as mobile patrols and cameras.

He was speaking in an interview with journalists shortly after officiating at the 20th edition of the All-Tonga Music Festival hosted by Radio Chikuni in Monze.

The minister has emphasized that instructions were given by his ministry and he expects all police officers to adhere and abide by the law.

“Those who are abusing the law and the instructions which have been given should not blame anybody when the whip is cracked,” he warned.

The music festival, which is an annual event, could not take place last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, speaking at the same event, representative for the Apostolic administration for the Monze Diocese, Miyoba Maanya said the concert is an opportunity to raise awareness on the Covid-19 pandemic.

Father Maanya has since called on the people of Monze to cooperate with government as it offers free Covid-19 vaccines.

“Let us continue to encourage everyone to get vaccinated in order to avoid further loss of life and as we continue to pray for God’s intervention,” Fr. Maanya said.

And chief Moonze of the Tonga people in Monze has urged his subjects to ignore myths about the Covid-19 vaccine.

The traditional ruler has emphasised that the vaccine is meant to save lives as opposed to some myths that it kills.

The music festival was held under the theme “Zyaluminwa Zilayanzana”, which is translated as “United we stand, divided we fall”.

Lubambo: Believe in Chipolopolo

3

Chipolopolo captain Lubambo Musonda is pleading with fans to have faith in the team ahead of tonight’s’ 2022 FIFA World Cup Group B qualifier against Equatorial Guinea at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Zambia head into match-day -four of their Group B qualifiers on the back of two successive Group B defeats following a promising start on September 3 with a 2-1 away win over winless and last placed Mauritania.

Chipolopolo heads into Sunday’s game hoping to reverse their 2-0 first leg loss to Equatorial Guinea they sustained in Malabo on October 7.

“We need that support from the fans; it is times like these that we need them the most when things are not going so well,” Lubambo said.

“We need that twelfth player to give us that motivation to push us forward.”

However, Chipolopolo’s Qatar race is looking grim.

A home victory tonight may not be enough to keep their Qatar dream alive.

Victory for Group B leaders Tunisia away in Mauritania tonight in Nouakchott will end their interest in the race.

Tunisia lead Group B on 9 points, Equatorial Guinea have 6 points, Zambia have 3 points while Mauritania have zero points with three  games left to play.

Meanwhile, Chipolopolo has been hit by a raft of suspensions and injuries with Leicester City striker Patson Daka and Zesco United midfielder Dickson Chapa out after accruing two yellow cards.

Kabwe Warriors midfielder Prince Mumba has a red card while Russian-based striker Evans Kangwa of Arsenal has failed to recover from a hamstring injury that he arrived with in camp.

Kangwa joins Brighton midfielder Enock Mwepu on the sidelines who didn’t travel for the Group B doubleheader to recover from a groin injury.

Young Shepolopolo Advance to 3rd Round of 2022 FIFA U20 Womens WC Qualifiers

0

Zambia advanced to the third round of the 2022 Costa Rica FIFA U-20 Women World Cup qualifiers after eliminating Malawi 8-1 on aggregate.

The Young Shepolopolo on Saturday beat Malawi 2-1 away at Bingu National Stadium.

This was a follow up to the 6-0 mauling of Malawi on September 24 in the first leg match played in Lusaka.

Malawi made a promising start when Rose Kabzere gave them a 3rd minute lead that was cancelled by Siomala Mapepa five minutes later.

Lungowe Namasiku scored the winner in the 38th minute.

Two more rounds are left in the qualifying campaign in which only two teams will go to Costa Rica from Africa.

President Hichilema’s New Dark Regime: UPND Cadres Worse Than PF!

42

By Kapya Kaoma.

As a nation, we are at an inflection point. The election of President HH seems to erase moral accountability–the hatred of Lungu and the PF has become a justification for lawlessness. Since when did we see cadres beat suspects at the High Court while in Police hands?

President HH should not sing the rule of law and human rights, while allowing his cadres to terrorise other citizens. The recent video of a PF suspect in Police hands being escorted to the High Court, and physically beaten by UPND cadres at the High Court in broad daylight made me afraid–the UPND regime has brought the New Dark era in Zambian politics. President HH promised to restore the rule of law, but that video is embarrassingly humiliating to his Administration, which vowed to promote human rights for all Zambians. Under no administration has this ever happened, Mr. Hichilema must tame his followers–we are a nation of laws!

What is shocking is how a group of civilians could attack a detainee, when being escorted by the police. One could see other police officers watching as if nothing was going on. But even more embarrassing is when an officer attempts to arrest a civilian, and the mob starts fighting the police officer. The entire incident is recorded on video. If this event took place during the Lungu administration, President HH would be calling for the resignation of the Minister of Home Affairs, the Inspector of Police and the chain of others. He would be on CNN and BBC too.

Despite the crime committed by the suspect, what we are witnessing is a clear lack of respect for human rights, and poor leadership in the HH administration. As a democratic nation, we believe that every citizen is entitled to a fair trial. That the person was attacked while in police hands should be embarrassing to the President’s moral cause. There is no other way to describe this than call it for what it is–tyranny! We may hate Lungu and his administration, but allowing lawlessness on sacred grounds of justice is simply immoral and unacceptable.

Didn’t President Hichilema promise to be the president of all Zambians? Didn’t he promise to defend the rule of law, and protect human rights? Yet HH has been vague on taming UPND cadres, who have seen his actions as inciting them to persecute those who differed with them during the elections. This is true on the streets as on social media. In fact, UPND cadres are proving to be worse than the PF. No one should bear the blame for this than President Hakainde, he has nurtured this culture in his cadres for 15 years–disrespecting those he differed with, was and is, his modus operandi. The violence being employed by his cadres on PF cadres has rendered HH impotent–he cannot stop what himself gave birth to. Hence we should not be surprised to see him call on the police to arrest his cadres, while HH’s cadres beat up the police as fellow officers watch. For a New Dark government blinds them all!

The lawlessness we face is personified in Plot 1. The president has disgracefully undressed the police to UPND cadres. Yet the rottenness of the Police system is exactly what he is doing by turning the Anti-Corruption Commission, Financial Intelligence Centre, and the Drug Enforcement Commission into his tuntembas. Our officers are corrupt because they know that only poor citizens are put in prison, while the presidential allies are left to roam the streets with heads high. And who can work under such demoralizing ethics? That is why they ask for bribes–they rather get something than waste time knowing too well that there is no law aside from the president and his cadres.

Under the New Dark administration, UPND cadres are untouchable–they are invisible to the law. That is why they are able to storm State House, Stations, Markets, Courts, and now the High Court. The President has accorded them power over law enforcement officers. In fact, it is now common to hear them threaten to report law enforcement officers, ZRA officials, Permanent Secretaries and other Career civil servants to the President. And when the Zambian Watchdog publishes the threat, that individual is fired. Until the 2026 sunset, cadres determine who should be punished and who should be rewarded in the New Dark government.

UPND cadres may terrorise people today, but ascribed power is what it is –temporary. As soon as HH realizes the international community is watching, he will throw some of these cadres under the bus. Remember the Mwanawasa “Chiluba” card–sacrificing an ally to remain in power. So we may see some arrests sooner rather than later. If not the rope of justice may appear to be broken, but it is kept alive by the human spirit. It was not long ago that I told the PF cadres that pay time would come. Today’s UPND may think it is the police, but those videos are out to put all those criminals in prisons for crimes they committed in front of the law enforcement officers.

Unless the New Dark President pardons them, time for reckoning awaits.

Is placing investigation wings under OP meant to protect president Hakainde Hichilema?

By Venus N Msyani

Lately President Hakainde Hichilema approach to corruption has become confusing. It is becoming clear that his administration is ready to abuse the fight against corruption.

The fight seems to target the immediate past government of former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu, the Patriotic Front (PF) government.

It is a provoking and hurting conversation but worth repeating. People who condemn involving president Hakainde Hichilema name in corruption conversations should pay attention. This is just a beginning.

HH approach to corruption will soon make every corruption conversation in the country bear his name. Especially on social media.

The president wants to recover everything stolen from the people of Zambia. The genesis of corruption in the country is the 1990s privatization process hence some investigations may lead to that period.

Zambians don’t agree on who stole during privatization process of state-owned assets in the 1990, but they agree that properties were stolen during the process.

To complete investigations on such properties president Hakainde help will be needed. Not as a suspect or guilty person but as someone who participated on the privatization process.

This should help those who misunderstood the author in the article The HH administration should call for amnesty on the past corruption.

Placing investigation wings under the Office of the President seems to be meant to protect president Hakainde Hichilema from such investigations.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), and Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) are now under the office of the President.

To my understanding, these investigative wings will now operate under the President guidance. The question is, does it mean president Hakainde Hichilema will have to self-investigate if needed?

No doubt HH effort to fight past corruption will continue to face hiccups. He should call for amnesty on the past corruption to avoid being misunderstood.

UPND wants top management at Kasempa town council removed

14

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has lodged in a petition seeking the removal of top management at Kasempa town council.

Speaking during the petition, UPND Kasempa constituency youth chairperson, Elion Kashala alleged that there has been mismanagement of funds at the local authority.

Mr Kashala alleged that management has failed to account for revenue collected for hiring out machinery that was bought under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

In the petition, UPND wondered how the local authority has continued to record the same amount of money raised from various levies despite the district’s increase in social and economic activities.

He said for many years the council has been recording the same amount of revenue collection which has hindered the provision of services to the people.

“They have failed to declare revenue collected from hire of a frontend loader, an equipment bought under CDF, meant for the public to hire out and thus in turn use the same revenue to provide service the people of Kasempa,” Mr Kashala said.

Mr Kashala further said that the party will not hesitate to petition any civil servant who is not delivering.

Receiving the petition Kasempa Council Chairperson, Brian Kankonkanya thanked the party for following the right procedure in airing out their grievances.

“If you have got any grievances there is always a procedure and you must be aware that our President Mr Hakainde Hichilema does not want to tolerate lawlessness,” he said.

He assured the petitioners that the council was going to handle the matter accordingly without any interference.

Maize at FRA depot go to waste

7

Over hundred by 50 kilogrammes bags of maize purchased by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) might waste away due to the damaged grain bags that are tearing up.

ZANIS reports that more than hundred bags stored at Chaulu depot in Mpulungu District could go to waste due to damaged grain bags that have opened up and letting the maize out.

An inspection by Northern Province Minister Leonard Mbao revealed that bags of maize secured with tarpaulins are tearing up and the grain is pouring out.

And Mr Mbao has questioned the criteria used to certify the quality of grain bags by the FRA.

Mr Mbao, who is also Mpulungu area Member of Parliament, described the situation is unacceptable and a drain on government resources.

He said a thorough investigation needs to be conducted to establish how the FRA could be supplied with substandard grain bags.

The Minister said despite the crop marketing exercise having being hampered by a shortage of empty grain bags it is saddening that the quality is also compromised.

Mr Mbao toured selected satellite depots to check on resumption of the sale of maize which was already delivered by farmers to the buying points.

Public health Inspectors suspend mining activities at Chinese Owned Mine

3

Public health Inspectors have suspended operations and mining activities at Sezic Resources Company Limited due to non-compliance with the occupational health and safety measures.

This came to light yesterday when the public health Inspectors from Ministry of Health and the Council led by acting District Director of Health, Terrence Chookwe carried out a routine inspection to ascertain whether the company was complying with the requirements of the occupational health and safety act in Sinazongwe district.

The Health Inspectors found that workers at the mine were working without wearing complete personal protective equipment such as work suits, safety shoes, gloves, respirators among them.

It was further discovered that the company has not employed a safety officer and environmental officer to help ensure safety and environmental standards are followed.

Speaking after the inspection of the mine, Sinazongwe Health Promotions Officer Owen Malao suspended the mines’ operations indefinitely until the company meet the safety requirements.

“The decision by health Inspectors to suspend operations and mining activities at Sezic Resources Company Limited is due to findings after inspection such as lack of toilets, safe clean drinking water for employees, no personal protective equipment provided and non-implementation of environmental measures to avert the negative impacts of mining activities in the mine and surrounding villages”, he said.

He said the suspension of the mine is in accordance with the laws of the country under occupational health and safety Act.

Mr Malao said further inspection will be conducted to check if the company will follow all the safety and environmental requirements, upon which the company can resume operations.

And one of the employees who spoke to ZANIS said the company pays them K25 per day and are subjected to work without getting leave or observing public holidays.

Mr Kallen Sikaonga narrated that workers are given K6 for lunch and if an employee misses work for a day, they are fired instantly.

“The company is not implementing the minimum wage Statutory Instrument and other labour laws hence subjecting workers to harsh conditions” he said.

And Chipo Munkombwe an employee of the mine said in an interview that they were paid their money on the table instead of using bank accounts which results in non-contribution to the National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA).

“We fear for our lives because we are not even contributing to NAPSA and our conditions of work are very poor,” he said.

Mr Munkombwe disclosed that every time authorities such as Public Health Inspectors and other relevant authorities visit the mine site, workers are told to hide or sent home to prevent them from interacting with authorities.

He said this had disadvantaged them because they have not had a chance to report their work conditions.

“We have no Union representation and therefore we are appealing to relevant authorities to come to our aid, authorities such as labour office, occupation health and safety institute, Public Health Inspectors and others to help us so that our health and lives of our families could be protected,” he said.

Meanwhile efforts to get a comment from Sezic Resources Company Limited Manager proved futile as he was reported out of the site.

Zanaco Beat Nkana to Win First League Game of The 2021/2022 Season

1

Zanaco have beaten Nkana 1-0 at home in Lusaka to secure their first win of the season.

Striker Ackim Mumba haunted his immediate past club Nkana by firing the lone goal late in this delayed Week 2 match at Sunset Stadium on Saturday.

Mumba, who replaced Ernest Mbewe after 54 minutes, justified his introduction with a 75th minute goal that lifted Zanaco out of the bottom.

The Bankers scored six minutes after Nkana’s goal by Alex Ng’onga was disallowed for an alleged offside by referee Tryson Mwape.

Mwape further sent off Nkana acting coach George Chilufya for disputing one of his decisions.

Meanwhile, Nkana remain on seven points from six matches as Zanaco moves to five points after playing five matches.

Elsewhere on Saturday, promoted Kansanshi Dynamos thrashed Red Arrows 3-0 away at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka in the delayed Week 1 match.

Indeni have moved one place up to number eight on nine points after playing six matches.

The 2022 National Budget needs to address the high cost of production in the farming business -ZNFU

5

The Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has expressed optimism that the 2022 National Budget will address the high cost of production in the farming business.

ZNFU spokesperson Calvin Kaleyi said the union is calling on government to look into the burden of taxes and fees to farmers which are not compliant with the risk of farming business.

Mr Kaleyi stated that there is a lot of labour for local farmers to be competitive in their business.

Mr Kaleyi made the remarks after officials from ZNFU and Ministry of Finance and National Planning held a consultative meeting early this week.

He explained that during the meeting ZNFU Director Adam Gordon-Strong bemoaned the high cost of production and work needed to be done for a local farmer to remain competitive.

“Director Adam Gordon-Strong who chaired the meeting at the ZNFU showcased how administratively a farmer is burdened with taxes and fees which if he is not compliant, it risked the farming business. He further bemoaned the high cost of production and that work needed to be done in that area if local farmers are to be competitive,” he said.

Mr Kaleyi recollected that ZNFU President Jervis Zimba together with farmers from Mkushi and Chisamba also held a successful meeting with Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane on Tuesday, October 5, 2021.

He pointed out that during the meeting the Union presented the immediate issues requiring the Ministers’ attention including the Union’s 2022 National Budget submission.

Mr Kaleyi said the meeting was also used to highlight a fresh issue concerning loans obtained from the COVID-19 mitigating fund and the negative consequences of the kwacha appreciation which has resulted in the loans ballooning upwards in dollar terms because of the exchange rate impact.

“Other issues highlighted were the budget submissions and arising from this the Union met with the Technical Team from the Ministry of Finance handling consultations for the 2022 National Budget yesterday October 7, 2021,” he stressed.

He further pointed out that the Minister of Finance and National Planning made it clear that he was eager to consider solutions that involve private sector participation.

Mr Kaleyi told Zanis that Dr Musokotwane asked the union to submit detailed proposals on the future of FISP, the eradication of Livestock diseases including the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and how to resolve the mounting debt for farmers who borrowed from the COVID-19 fund.

UK Government gives Zambia education fund to build and expand schools across the country

18

British High Commissioner to Zambia Nicholas Woolley says the United Kingdom government is committed to supporting the education sector in Zambia.

Mr. Woolley disclosed a 7 million Pounds education funding to build and expand schools across the country.

He said the funding is designed to increase secondary school places through new and extended schools as well as increase the quality of school leadership and teaching in more remote parts of Zambia.

The British High Commissioner said this during the official opening of the Chevening Alumni Association of Zambia Annual General Meeting in Lusaka today.

Mr. Woolley explained that the funding will be delivered through a partnership between the Zambian government, PEAS-a UK schools’ social enterprise who also have a very successful network of schools in Uganda, and the British Council.

He stated that the funding will support 3,800 new school places by building three new schools and four school expansions reaching over 70,000 children over the lifecycle of the schools.

“The schools will be built in areas currently underserved by secondary schools at locations identified in partnership with the government,” he said.

Mr. Woolley noted that the funding will include technical assistance to support education policy and improve access and quality for secondary education.

“I hope this new programme will provide greater opportunities for more Zambians and perhaps enable them to become Chevening Scholars in future.

And Minister of Education Douglas Siakalima commended the British government for their continued support to extending learning opportunities for the Zambian people.

Mr. Siakalima said this has added real value to the country’s growth prospects by capacitating the country’s human capital in various fields such as agriculture, development studies among others.

He said Zambia will continue to rely on the friendship and solidarity shared between the two countries.

The minister said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Ministry of General Education Director for University Charles Mulenga.

Forestry department raise over K17m

2

The Forestry Department in Northwestern Province has raised over K17 million which is above the set target for this year.

Provincial Forestry Officer, Maxwell Phiri told ZANIS in an interview in that the target for the year was K17 million but by September 30, 2021, the department reached above the target and raised K17, 682,000 as non-tax forest revenue.

Mr Phiri disclosed that the major sources of revenue has been the production and conveyance fees for timber and charcoal, disposal of confiscated forest produce and fines and penalties.

Mr Phiri has attributed the rise in revenue collection to government support through which the department received four Toyota Hilux utility vehicles and one Fuso track last year.

“We generate revenue every day but then we compile every month, also quarterly and annually, but we are given annual targets as a department, our target this year was K17 million by September 30, we were above our target by 50%”, Mr Phiri said.

Meanwhile, Mr Phiri appealed to government to secure more utility vehicles to cater for the eleven districts in order to enhance patrols and community sensitizations.

He said lack of vehicles hinder inspection of concession areas thereby, creating a lot of leakages in terms of revenue.

“Without a vehicle officers cannot inspect these concession areas then there will be a lot of leakages in terms of revenue, people would avoid to pay for these resources, they would buy timber illegally from the communities and then transport outside the province and no money goes to the government”, Mr Phiri stated

He said charcoal burning and illegal cutting down of timber production remains the major problem facing the department.

Mr Phiri said North-western province has abundance of rosewood which is on demand thereby, attracting people from other provinces and neighbouring countries such as Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He said foreign nationals are conniving with local people for illegal timber business which is one of the most lucrative activity.

Mr Phiri said the department is working with traditional leaders to sensitize the communities on the importance of preserving forest reserves.

Unemployment and Poverty levels skyrocketed under PF and repeated calls by unions to reverse the situation fell on deaf ears-ZCTU

22

Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Secretary-General, Cosmas Mukuka, says the change of government has brought renewed hope among workers and their families.

Speaking when he officially opened the 12th National Union of Communication Workers (NUCW) at the Zambezi Source Lodge in Kabwe today, Mr Mukuka said workers and their families are expecting improvements in their living standards and general welfare.

Mr Mukuka observed that under the former Patriotic Front (PF) government, unemployment and poverty levels had skyrocketed and repeated calls by unions to reverse the situation fell on deaf ears.

He also observed that wealth was only circulating in the hands of a few people while the majority were condemned to wallow in poverty and squalor.

“We reached a point where the general citizenry and the workers felt helpless, especially that leaders who tried to speak out were intimidated with impunity,” Mr Mukuka said.

Mr Mukuka said the workers will demand nothing short of improved living standards and that the principle of free collective bargaining will be respected.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mukuka has urged the government to fully embrace the 2030 agenda which places decent work for all at the heart of policies for sustainable and inclusive growth and development.

“We demand that while the country strives for economic growth, people must begin to see opportunities of finding decent work. We want working people to earn enough wages and salaries that can lift them and their families out of poverty,” he said.

Mr. Mukuka said the labour movement is saddened that most workers are still working under unsafe and unhealthy conditions.

“This is unacceptable because it puts the lives and safety of workers under great risk. Most employers have put profits first before the physical welfare of their workers,” he charged.

He has urged the new dawn government and other employers to urgently build a culture of prevention that respects the right to a safe and healthy working environment as well as ensuring both employers and workers know their rights.

He added that it is also imperative that employers implement International Labour Organisation (ILO) fundamental rights and standards because workers require to be protected and their working conditions improved.

And Mr Mukuka said women’s economic empowerment is fundamental to gender equality.

He noted that to most women workers, their most important source of economic empowerment and dignity is a job.

He said closing gender gaps in employment, ensuring decent work for all women and equal pay for work of equal value is key to achieving gender equality.

“I wish to call upon trade unions and employers to work together in ensuring that all forms of discrimination against women workers and indeed all girls are completely eliminated,” he implored.
