Chipolopolo acting coach Aggrey Chiyangi says the friendly match against Niger was helpful ahead of next month’s 2021 Africa Cup qualifying campaign opener against Algeria in North Africa.
Zambia were held to a 1-1 draw by Niger away in Niamey on Thursday evening
‘It’s been a very good game. Very good practise match and very good preparation,’ Chiyangi said.
‘I am happy especially with the way these guys (Niger) played because it is almost the way Algeria plays. The only difference is that them they are a bit slow and Algeria is much faster,’ he said.
‘For now I think we have a base especially on the team that is going to play the AFCON games. At least we have a base; we have a foundation where we can build from,’ Chiyangi said.
Chipolopolo have since arrived in Cotonou to play their final friendly against Benin on October 13.
‘It will be a different game against we have to use the other players that haven’t played. We want everyone to play at least a game. Others have played today we want to see also those that didn’t play,’ he said.
Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo has cautioned Zambians in the diaspora to be wary of fake news on social media, meant to scandalise the country’s reputation and its leadership.
Mr Kampyongo cautioned that Zambians living abroad, need to make an effort to verify news they read on social media, adding that social platforms have now become a source of fake and unverified news.
The Minister said Zambians in the diaspora can rely on websites from the main news sources such as ZANIS, ZNBC and electronic versions of the local newspaper organizations such as Times of Zambia and the Zambia Daily mail.
He added that fake news has the potential to deceive people in the diaspora, in believing wrong things about their country.
The Minister was speaking at the Zambian Ambassador’s residence in Geneva where he and his South African counterpart Njabulo Nzuza, SA Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, was hosted for dinner.
Mr Kampyongo also encouraged the embassy staff to continue exhibiting good behaviour as they represent the country in Switzerland.
He urged them to continue supporting each other and respecting their superiors as they discharge their duties.
The Minister further reminded them to invest whatever resources they make back home for the country and their relatives to benefit.
And Zambia’s Ambassador to Switzerland Martha Mwitumwa told the Minister that Geneva has no Association of Zambians living abroad, as represented in other countries.
Mrs Mwitumwa who is also Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations said the mission is however in the process of bringing all Zambians living in Switzerland together to form an association.
The Ambassador said it was difficult for the mission to take stock of the activities of Zambians in that country, due to lack of a traceable association.
Meanwhile, Home Affairs Deputy Minister of South Africa Njabulo Nzuza reveals that his country values the relations it has with Zambia.
Mr Nzuza added that the cordial ties between Zambia and South is good for trade as the people of the two countries are always in contact.

He said his government has heightened security, to ensure safety of all foreign nationals, living in that country.
United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary General Stephen Katuka
The opposition UPND has attributed the huge apathy of 66 percent of the registered voters in Kaoma in yesterday’s Council Chairperson by-election to the huge PF appetite to rig the election.
Party Secretary-General Stephen Katuka said people did not turn out because they were boycotting the PF failed leadership, brutality, and Dracula type bloodsucking murderers.
Below is a full statement.
ANALYSIS OF KAOMA BY ELECTIONS
Lusaka_11th October 2019- Kaoma District of Western Province has 47,789 voters. Kaoma district houses two constituencies namely, Kaoma Central and Mangango constituencies.
Both Kaoma Central and Mangango Constituencies have 66 polling stations in total and 87 polling streams.
The election results in the Kaoma by-election are as follows :
The number of voters who did not participate – 31,715 representing 66%.
The reason for this huge apathy of 66% of the registered voters who did not turn out is that they are boycotting the PF failed leadership, brutality and Dracula type bloodsucking murderers.
PF also went into Kaoma with mealie meal, meat bicycles and motorbikes for bribing voters.
Edgar Lungu further went to abuse government resources by taking with him a delegation of over 300 people from Lusaka.
A Zambia Army bus was used to ferry cadres which for us amounts to abuse of public office.
A Zambia Air force Helicopter flew over UPND rally , an act which amounts to provocation.
Unfortunately, all this happened in full view of the compromised Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
It is shameful that ECZ failed to disqualify PF from participating even after they continued terrorising villagers with fire arms, machetes and stones .
PF’s Killing of our supporter was not enough, gun shots continued as late as the midnight of 10th October 2019.
It is not a secret that PF wanted to capitalize on apathy in order to rig elections.
The understanding is that rigging operates on low voter turn out .
When the voter turn out is high, it is difficult to rig.
Moving forward, if the electorate continue to stay away from voting , they will be endorsing the hunger situation to continue.
If they stay away from voting, they are also saying the electricity load shedding , delayed salaries for civil servants, high mealie meal prices, high electricity tariffs, high price of fuel and more problems generally should continue.
We therefore call upon all Zambians to turn up in big numbers in all the elections to come.
Dr Nevers Mumba and HH during the news conference at UPND news conference

And the MMD says it is In the same vein saddened with the violence which characterised the said elections.
Party spokesperson Cephas Mukuka said the police service have a huge challenge to come up with new ways and strategies of combating political thuggery and violence.
Dr Mukuka is saddened that Zambia keep losing lives in the name of political campaigns .
“In all fairness and without malice, we expected the ECZ to have halted the Kaoma By Elections. As it where it’s like credence was given to a mere election instead of life, which in this case was lost”, he said.
He said Life is precious and sacred and no-one just wakes up and takes it away from another person.
Dr Mukuka has accused the ECZ of being insensitive to issues of humanity and has implored them to be firm yet fair with their dealings.
He noted that as a result of the violence which erupted, innocent people got afraid to go and cast their votes resulting in the creation of voter apathy.
Dr Mukuka said government should by all means compensate the family of the deceased member of the UPND and the one behind this evil act arrested without any delays.
He said If nothing is done to people involved in political murders then the vice shall be encouraged.
“When govt starts to pay huge sums of money in terms of compensating families of those slain in cold blood, it will help the Executive to liase with security wings not to tolerate evil, wicked, satanic, and demonic political acts. The MMD led govt will ensure that people carry out campaigns in a very peaceful and democratic atmosphere without shedding blood or losing lives”, he added.
Dr Mukuka said Police will operate very professional as expected of them by society adding that Law breakers will be dealt with regardless of political affiliation.
The Road Transport and Safety Agency has intensified traffic law enforcement patrols on highways to curb road accidents as directed by President Edgar Lungu.
RTSA Acting Director and Chief Executive Officer Gladwell Banda say the Agency will double its efforts to increase the presence of RTSA officers on the highways as directed by the President.
“The patrols are targeting un-roadworthy vehicles, excessive speeding motorists, drunken drivers and compliance to statutory documents such as Driving Licences, Road Licences, and permits, including general road safety rules and regulations such as adherence to fastening seat-belts and non use of cell phone while driving,” Mr. Banda Said.
He has disclosed that RTSA in collaboration with Zambia Police Traffic Section will be conducting motorized and non-motorized patrols adding that the Agency will also ensure that all broken down vehicles causing obstruction on the roadway are removed to avoid the risk of road traffic accidents.
“I have with immediate effect directed all RTSA Provincial offices to get on the ground to ensure that we put an end to the escalating incidences of road traffic accidents especially on the highways,” Mr. Banda said.
“To model safe and courteous behaviour on the Zambian road network, the Agency has enhanced road safety education, to promote the use of proper signage of triangles to alert other motorists whenever there is a broken down vehicle on the roadway,” He said.
The patrols stem from a spate of accidents along the highways with the latest accidents this week along the Chingola-Kitwe road and Great North road respectively, leaving eight people dead and several injured in the two separate road accidents.
In a statement, Mr Banda described the accidents as unfortunate adding that RTSA will not allow the continued loss of lives due to road traffic accidents and will ensure total adherence to road traffic rules and regulations by all road users.
Socialist Party President Fred M’membe says the political violence in the Kaoma council chairperson by-election won by the UPND that has left a fellow citizen dead is very disturbing and annoying.
Dr. M’membe said no one’s life is worth a council chairperson’s election as Life is sacred.
He said it is necessary to continually remind ourselves that politics must be for the good of the country, and not for the political survival of any individual or party.
Dr. M’membe has warned that if that spirit of the primacy of the common good were to animate all the political parties, we would not witness the violence, killings which leave the public dismayed and disheartened.
He said the quality of democracy is determined by the establishment of proper structures and more just, fair and humane practices that facilitate freedom of thought, expression, association, and assembly.
“As we approach the 2021 elections we must start to express concern regarding the frequent instances of intolerance, intimidation, violence, and lust for power”, he said.
Dr. M’membe said in the present atmosphere of fierce competition and character assassination, the nation should be reminded of the noble goals of political activity.
He said politics should aim at promoting the common good and not intolerance, violence and killings adding that political discourse should concentrate on programs to improve the life of the nation rather than on intolerance, violence and killings.
Dr. M’membe said politicians should look for the common good of all the people and enter into sincere dialogue with opponents, even in cases of political divergence.
He said violence must be avoided because the election campaign should not be confused with a battlefield where the aim is to destroy the other.
Dr. M’membe said real political victory lies on the ideals proposed, on the ethical values of candidates, on the respect for the freedom of choice of all citizens, and not on any form of moral pressure or intimidation of political opponents or voters.
