Coach Stephen Mwansa has declared that Kitwe United’s 2-1 win over Buildcon at the weekend has moved the Buchi Boys closer to safety in the FAZ Super Division.
Mwansa said the Buchi Boys now need just one more win to be sure of surviving relegation.
The home win over Buildcon in Kitwe, moved Chingalika one place up to 11th on the table with 39 points from 30 matches played.
“I want to congratulate the players for the character shown in the game. Coming from a loss, they put in more efforts for us to collect maximum points,” Mwansa said.
With eight matches remaining in the season, Kitwe are 13 points away from relegation as at Week 30.
“The win is important at least we have now collected 39 points. At least we need 40 or maximum 45 points,” he said.
Kitwe have posted 10 wins, nine draws and 11 defeats.
Chingalika are this season playing in the Super Division for the first time in 12 years.
Nkana supporters are toasting their team’s 1-0 win over Green Buffaloes in Lusaka on Sunday.
This was a rare win for Kalampa over Buffaloes whom they last beat in 2015.
The win at Edwin Imboela moved Nkana one place up to third on the FAZ Super Division table with 55 points from 29 matches.
Several Nkana supporters in Kitwe were on Monday seen donning their team’s replica jerseys especially in the town centre.
“We are very happy to beat Buffaloes for the first time in many years. The win has given us morale as you know Buffaloes have been troubling us,” Proper Shamatutu told Lusaka Times in the Kitwe Town Centre.
“In the past we were holding the Buffaloe on its tail but yesterday we held it by the horns and managed to win. So we are very happy and just enjoying the Buffaloe meat,” another supporter commented.
“We have been waiting for this win. Nkana played well as you know our team is very big,” Chanda Musonda said.
Striker Idriss Mbombo scored the only goal in this Week 30 match two minutes after replacing injured striker Walter Bwalya.
If you have a problem and there is nowhere else to turn, the mysterious and elusive Robert McCall will deliver the vigilante justice you seek. This time, however, McCall’s past cuts especially close to home. Now out for revenge, McCall must take on a crew of highly trained assassins who’ll stop at nothing to destroy him
PROS
Good performance, as always, by Denzel Washington.
The action scenes were intense and realistic.
CONS
Poor character development. If you have not watched the first Equalizer film you will not know why McCall (Denzel Washington) does what he does. Further more, the relationships between key characters is not full explained which make certain scenes less impactful than they may have been intended to be.
The pace of the movie is quite slow.
FAVORITE QUOTES
Robert McCall: “There are two types of pain in this world: pain that hurts and pain that alters.”
Robert McCall: “I’m your father. You mama forgot to tell you about me.”
CONCLUSION
Denzel Washington , in the first sequel of his illustrious career , returns as the mysterious Robert McCall . McCall is an enigma who is simultaneously moralistic and homicidal. In order to save the lives of those in need, he is willing to snuff out those who endanger them.
The Equalizer 2 is an intriguing action thriller but it suffers from a poorly developed story-line and several plot holes that will leave you scratching your head.
The movie does not live up to expectations, and will not live long in the memory. With that being said, Denzel Washington brings a sense of humanity and a resonant dramatic force to the character. Without Washington ,this movie would not be worth watching.
Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Dora Siliya today met US Ambassador to Zambia Daniel Foote and discussed a wide range of issues mainly surrounding the media sector.
Mr Foote was accompanied by new US Embassy Public Affairs Officer Sean McIntosh And Information Specialist Zarina Geloo.
Ms Siliya informed the Ambassador that her Ministry is in the process of rebranding itself to focus more on its core mandate of facilitating Government Information, Media Development, Film Development and Theatre Development in the country.
“Our role is to provide information as well as get feedback from the public. But we are also responsible for film and theatre and yet my Ministry is not structured in such a way that it can cater for film and theatre. We are also responsible for media development, or the business of media. Therefore, there is need to reorganise the Ministry to suit the mandate,” Ms Siliya said.
She said her Ministry has drafted a Cabinet Memorandum to seek Cabinet approval to facilitate the Ministry’s rebranding.
Ms Siliya said many citizens believe her Ministry is responsible for cyber laws, while others believe it is in charge of broadcasting only, which is not the case. The Ministry of Transport and Communications is in charge of the Information and Communications Sector in Zambia and deals with laws regarding cyber security.
“Even our name needs to be looked at, we just don’t do broadcasting,” Ms Siliya said.
And Mr Foote commended the Zambian Government for its vigour in drafting the Access to Information Bill but wondered why it has not been taken to Parliament for legislation to which the Minister replied that the Ministry of Justice have concluded their part and will write to her soon.
“It is active now. The question I always ask is what is it that we are trying to achieve? And we are clear as Government about what we want to do. I just need to emphasise that this law is about our citizens and their right to know. It’s not just about journalists alone,” she said.
Mr Foote said the US Government is ready to help Zambia complete the process if called upon.
He said that the American Government has helped Zambian journalists through exchanges and training in investigative journalism. The US has also trained local Disc Jockeys in journalism skills.
“We have annual exchanges, and we workshops for journalists in Livingstone, Chipata, and we have trained DJs in journalism basics.
The Minister assured the Ambassador of freedom of the media in Zambia and expressed concern that many journalists have aligned themselves with political parties and, therefore, have compromised on their own independence.
“I don’t call anybody in the media, I just read stories in the media as they are written. The biggest problem in the media is that journalists are poorly paid, and, therefore, are liable to being easily compromised,” she said.
Regarding the film industry, she said there is need for clarity in policies to ensure young creative minds excel in the industry like in the US, Nigeria and India.
Mr McIntosh informed the Minister that he is in contact with the National Arts Council to bring in a film director from the US to have a session with Zambian artistes, and Mr Foote, who has acted in a Hollyhood film encouraged the Ministry to support the film industry.
Fire has swept through the whole of Namanda village in Chief Imbwae’s chiedfdom, in Libonda ward, gutting 13 houses to ashes.
Kalabo District Commissioner Fridah Luhila confirmed the incident during a Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) emergency meeting held in her office on Friday.
Mrs. Luhila who is also DMMU Kalabo Chairperson said the incident happened yesterday, adding that the cause of fire is unknown.
She said an estimated 80 people have been affected including a woman who sustained burns, adding that an emergency response team evacuated her to hospital for medical attention.
She said the victim sustained the burns during her attempt to salvage household goods.
Mrs. Luhila said the affected families were in urgent need of relief aid in terms of food, tents and cooking utensils.
By press time, a technical team had rushed to the affected village to carry out a comprehensive assessment of demographic, health status, value of gutted property as well as short-term and long-term intervention measure to address the disaster.
The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has described the insistence by the Church to both lead and facilitate the National Dialogue process as a more divisive route and has missed a chance to reconcile the two competing positions.
YALI Governance Advisor, Isaac Mwanza, said said it is unfortunate that the Church has decided to impute those who have objected to the solo move by the church as not credible while calling those who have endorsed their solo move as credible stakeholders.
“We know those who have called for a joint leadership and facilitation of the national dialogue, whom the Church imputes as non-credible includes His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia Edgar Chagwa Lungu, many political parties that are members of ZCID, some civil society organizations who believe in united efforts of the Church and ZCID at a time when the national dialogue is itself proving divisive,” he said.
Mr. Mwanza said those whom the Church consider as credible for supporting the Church’s solo position of leading and facilitating the dialogue include some CSOs and UPND who believe the dialogue is about addressing the breakdown in the rule of law and denial of people’s fundamental rights, among other things.
“It is unfortunate that the Church has been persuaded to take the route of the solo leadership and facilitation process premised on an imaginary breakdown of the rule of law and denial of fundamental rights which ranks a priority on those whom the Church calls credible stakeholders,” he said.
Mr. Mwanza said the route taken by the Church will not yield any progress as it has the potential of being rejected by political parties who constitute ZCID.
“We wonder how the church-led and facilitated dialogue can be sustained in the absence of the political leadership from political parties in ZCID,” he said.
Last week President Lungu criticised the decision of the church not to embrace ZCID by preferring to go alone with the the National Dialogue while UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema welcomed the move and said UPND wants to discuss the breakdown in the rule of law in the country.

Margaret Chimanse, the Manager Public Relations at Electoral Commission of Zambia
Political parties have verified ballot papers in Lusaka ahead of the Kasenengwa parliamentary and local government by-elections to be held on September 6,2018.
The Kasenengwa parliamentary by-election was triggered by the death of the former Gender Minister Victoria Kalima.
Electoral Commission of Zambia Public relations manager Margaret Chimanse has told ZNBC News that the process was smooth and three political parties took part.
Ms Chimanse says the ballots will be dispatched to various places where voting will be taking place by Friday.
She also says campaigns have so far been incident free except in the North-West where district conflict resolution teams had to intervene in one case.
Ms Chimanse has since called on residents in places where elections will take place to turn up in numbers and vote.

President Edgar Lungu says he is disappointed that campaigns for the Kasenengwa Parliamentary by-election are centred on tribal lines.
Speaking during a public rally at Chiparamba Sub-Centre yesterday, President Lungu said he has heard reports about people questioning whether Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Sensio Banda is Ngoni or Chewa.
The President stated that people should be concerned whether Mr. Banda will bring development to the area once ushered into office and not worry about his tribe.
He said there is need to promote unity in the country through the ‘One Zambia One Nation’ motto and avoid tribal politics.
And the Head of State urged people in the area to vote for the PF candidate saying it will be easy to work with him than an opposition Member of Parliament (MP).
He further took a swipe at MPs that have stopped visiting their constituencies stating that he is aware that some the law makers have become big headed by not visiting people who voted them into office.
President Lungu added that PF promotes humble leadership because power belongs to the people.
He told Mr. Banda to closely work with the people once elected and continue with developmental projects left by the late Victoria Kalima.
Meanwhile, Chief Mishoro of the Ngoni people has thanked President Lungu for declaring Kasenengwa as a district.
He however, said his chiefdom has continued to face a number of challenges such as bad roads, inadequate health posts and lack of communication network among others.
Chief Mishoro appealed to government to consider connecting his palace to the national grid as it is only 6km away from the main power line.
He said this when President Lungu paid a courtesy call on him at Chiparamba Day Secondary School.
And President Lungu said he had taken note of the challenges highlighted by the traditional leader and promised to have them addressed.
He said government is currently constructing more than 1, 000 communication towers in the country to improve network accessibility.

Zesco United captain and goalkeeper Jacob Banda says they are not feeling the pressure heading into Tuesday’s must-win 2018 CAF Champions final Group D match against Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia.
Zesco hosts Etoile at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola in a match they must win to stand a chance of qualifying to the quarterfinals.
Zesco are third in Group D on 5 points, one behind second placed Primeiro de Agosto of Angola and a further five points adrift of Etoile who qualified with two games in hand.
But Zesco will also be hoping that Agosto and last placed Mbabane Swallows of eSwatini, who have four points, draw on the same date in Angola for them to qualify with a home win in Ndola.
“We just have to win. We don’t know how the other team will play but we just have to work hard and qualify to the second round,” Banda said.
“We have no pressure we playing at home we just have to play the way we play other games.”
The fixture comes after winning their first Group D match a fortnight ago away in eSwatini when they beat Swallows 3-0 to hand themselves a lifeline heading into this weekend’s final league stage matches.
Meanwhile, striker Lazarus Kambole who scored a hat trick against Swallows, and in the first leg loss away in Tunisia on may 16 that Etoile won 2-1, will be the man Zesco will be banking on hopes of a first Group D home win.
Kambole currently has seven goals in the 2018 CAF Champions League in what is turning out to be a great year for him that has seen him also collect six goals for Chipolopolo.
Human Rights Lawyer Moono Mapani has described as contemptuous President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s statement that he will contest in the 2021 general elections when the matter is in the courts of law.
Mr. Mapani has told Q-news in an interview that it is contempt to talk about contesting as a 2021 presidential aspirant when the matter is in the courts of law, pointing out that any reference made by the head of state undermines the outcome.
However, Mapani is prayerful that the court will come out in the open and tell the nation whether president lungu is eligible to contest or not. Mr. Mapani said that president lungu’s statement shows that perhaps the Zambian president knows the outcome, adding that President Lungu’s statement amounts to contempt thus the head of state must be cited for contempt.
Mr. Mapani advised President Lungu to respect the constitution as he swore to protect and defend the republican constitution at all cost.
And Opposition Movement for National Transformation President Daniel Shimunza has advised President Lungu not to interfere in the judicial process meant to determine whether or not he is eligible to contest in the Thursday 12th august 2021 Presidential election.
Mr. Shimunza said that he was concerned that the Head of State was talking about the matter which is in the courts of law a situation he described as unfair and prejudicial.
Pastor Shimunza said that President Lungu’s action shows that the head of state does not respect the separation of powers.
Last week in Kitwe President Edgar Lungu asked his team to step up their game and see to the fulfillment of their campaign promises in order for him to successfully finish his tenure from 2021-2026.
Addressing a rally in Kitwe, President Lungu who was in the city to check on developmental projects urged his Members of Parliament, Mayor and the councilors to help him ensure that they deliver campaign promises made.
He said only the successful delivery of these promises would guarantee them rightful re-election in 2021 noting that he wants his end of 2026 to be resounding.
“I want to finish 2021 and 2026 with delivery, and we can only finished the 2021-2026 term if we deliver,” President Lungu said.
The head of state gave himself and the PF government a pat on the back by appreciating the hyper positive development trajectory the country has been on since the coming in of the PF government in 2011.
“We can develop Zambia, from 2011 Zambians can see what we have done.. This was the vision of our President Michael Chilufya Sata, he had a vision for development and that of a bigger all-inclusive party,” President Lungu said.
The head of state who was standing on a road in Ghanatone a part of Kitwe that has not seen bitumen roads for over 22 years boasted that people were joining the Patriotic Front because it was delivering unlike what ‘abalufumo’ is saying.

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has closed seven Driving Schools in Lusaka for operating illegally and outside the provision of the Road Traffic Act No.11 of 2002.
The Schools have since been ordered to immediately close and stop offering driving lessons. The affected Driving Schools are Galaxy Driving School, Puma Driving School, Vwanganji Driving School, Matcus Driving School, Peniel Driving School Presmac driving School and Risemark Driving School.
This came to light when the RTSA conducted a driving School inspection and enforcement exercise recently, were it was discovered that the closed Schools lacked proper documentation and some Schools appeared under different names. In some instance, some Driving Schools were found to be receiving payments from driving lessons using two different receipt books under different names such that if one School is threatened with closure, the other School will get the payments on its behalf.
Further, a total number of nine motor vehicles were impounded during the exercise from the named Driving Schools for not having Certificate of Fitness, not paying for Road Tax, failure to insure the vehicles and lack of qualified instructors.
All the impounded vehicles are currently parked at the RTSA Dedan Kimathi station and will only be released after full compliance with the provision of the law.
The RTSA wishes to warn other Driving Schools that are operating illegally to fully comply or face prosecution as the inspection and enforcement exercise will be extended to all the Provinces in the country.
Members of the public are encouraged to learn driving skills from reputable, recognized Driving Schools registered with the RTSA.
Zambia Police Service has called on community members to be alert and not fall prey to unverified job promises outside the country so as not to become victims of human trafficking.
In an interview with ZANIS, Zambia Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said community members should know before they go to job promises outside the country.
Mr. Chilabi said the Police Service has recorded a lot of cases of human trafficking especially in border towns and nearby areas.
He said that Zambia being part of the global community which includes international movements falls prey to be victims of human trafficking.
Mr. Chilabi said the country is both the destination and recruitment point for human trafficking and women and children are the majority victims.
He added that Zambia police service, Ministry of Community Development and Social Services in partnership with International Organization for Migration (IOM), is conducting sensitization programs on human trafficking.
The Assistant Public Relations Officer stated that sensitizations are aimed at informing the public to be alert on the signs of human trafficking and places to report suspected traffickers.
He added that the sensitization currently running is themed “know before you go” because most people are desperate for job opportunities outside the country even without necessary qualification.
Mr. Chilabi stated that there is lack of information among the people on what signs to look out for in international promises that seem too good to be true.
Further, Mr. Chilabi added that lack of employment, poverty, lack of information has caused people to be easily deceived with job promises.
He said it is important to seek job opportunities outside the country but people should be informed on those destination and type of employment being offered.
Meanwhile Senanga District Social Welfare Officer Victor Walubita said sensitization programs in the district will continue with the help of CWACS as they are community based.
Mr. Walubita said they will take advantage of the opportunity when distributing money for Social Cash Transfer (SCT).
And community members expressed happiness over the sensitizations that have started in communities.
A community member Mubita Kapinda said the sensitization on human trafficking has made the community to be aware of the vice and report when they receive any suspicions to the relevant offices.
Ms. Kapinda said most victims who are children and women will be protected and eliminating the vice needs working collectively.
Recently, six Senanga residents who were victims of human trafficking were retrieved from Namibia with the help of Zambia Police, IOM and department of social welfare.
This was after being trafficked by a Senanga resident promising them well-paying jobs in that country.
PF Secretary General Davies Mwila speaking during a joint media briefing with the UPND leadership at the UPND Secretariate
Patriotic Front(PF) Secretary General (SG) Davies Mwila has maintained that the ruling party will support the dialogue process that will be facilitated by Zambia Centre for Inter party Dialogue (ZCID).
Mr. Mwila says ZCID made it clear during the recently held Secretary Generals Conference that it will only facilitate the dialogue process.
He stated that PF will support the stance by ZCID to appoint eminent people to chair the dialogue process in place of the church.
He explained that there is no way ZCID can be excluded, adding that it was the Centre that started the process hence the need for stakeholders to allow ZCID to finish it.
The PF Secretary General stated that ZCID has made it clear from the beginning that it will only play the role of a facilitator and will allow the church to chair the proceedings.
Mr. Mwila noted that ZCID encompasses all the political parties hence the need for them to be part of the process.
He wondered why the three church mother bodies have indicated taking over the whole process sidelining ZCID.
And ZCID spokesperson, Jackson Silavwe yesterday told a media briefing that the Centre will go ahead with national political dialogue with representation from all willing political parties despite the church refusing to chair the process.
However, the three church mother bodies have clarified that they have not hijacked the dialogue process or sidelined ZCID.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mwila says the interparty elections within the party structures are progressing well saying all the districts outside Lusaka have since concluded.
Mr. Mwila added that the party is yet to communicate the dates for other provinces to commence their elections at all structures.
