Amnesty International Report About Zambia is Rubbish and that should Never be Tolerated by Zambians-Lubinda

Patriotic Front Member of the Central Committee Given Lubinda has described the report by Amnesty International about Zambia as rubbish and that should never be tolerated by Zambians.

Speaking during a capacity-building workshop with PF candidates at various levels in Mumbwa District, Mr Lubinda said it is sad that some political parties are doing everything within their powers to use international organizations to paint Zambia black in the eyes of the international community just to win international sympathy.

Mr. Lubinda said Zambia is one of the signatories to various human rights Charters and has been praised for being a peaceful nation and a firm believer in human rights.

He said the Head of State and the PF family will never sacrifice any life for political sake.

He said this is why President Lungu has constantly condemned the violence of all forms regardless of the perpetrator.

He said it is therefore irresponsible for Amnesty International to produce fake and unfounded reports purporting that Zambia is currently a dictatorship nation.

He said people can play politics but should never sell the country for political expedience.

Mr. Lubinda who is also campaign manager for PF and President Edgar Lungu’s Running mate, Professor Nkandu Luo said, President Lungu has won peace medals on merit and the world knows so.

He said politics should be about ideas and not going to international bodies to dent the country because whatever will come out will affect the whole country.

The former Kabwata lawmaker and Immediate past Minister of Justice told the candidates that they should engage in issue-based politics as guided by President Edgar Lungu.

And former Mandevu Constituency Member of Parliament Jean Kapata told the candidates not to engage in violence as PF should take the lead in promoting peace. Ms. Kapata said it is better to run away when provoked than retaliating.

She said Zambia was founded on principles of one Zambia one Nation and this should be followed if we are to honour our late founding father Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

And speaking earlier, former PF Mpika Central Member of Parliament, Sylvia Chalikosa told the candidates that they should work on bringing more people on board for the boat still has capacity for more people.

Mrs. Chalikosa said the adopted candidates should work at bringing back those who were not adopted and decided to leave so that they can work together.

She said not being adopted is not the end of the world and that there are a number of responsibilities that one can take up within the party.

Kambwili is a danger to this nation; the sooner he’s clipped the better!

55

Prince B. M. Kaping’a Political/Social Analyst

When fifth Republican President Michael C. Sata passed on, a number of key players within PF would emerge to jostle for the vacant seat. One of those was none other than Kambwili, a senior cabinet minister at the time, whom Sata had once chided as being ultra-ambitious!

Anyway, the man who prides himself as Imbwili couldn’t choose a better place to launch his presidential bid as Kitwe on the Copperbelt – the political hotbed of our beloved country.

Out of curiosity, I found myself at the Show Grounds, the venue for the meeting to hear what the man fond of comparing himself to an animal had to offer.

In his usual style, the man was on fire! He went on to catalogue a litany of defects in a man who would go on to be President; as some in the audience, probably hired chaps, cheered on and ululated! Of course we can’t repeat any of it here as most of it borders on profanity!

When PF finally went for the convention and elected to anoint “ewo batushilile ba Sata;” being sly as he is, Imbwili saw a golden opportunity. He appointed himself chief campaign manager and immediately hit the ground running urging an otherwise ambivalent electorate to give Lungu a chance to complete Sata’s projects.

Once Edgar Lungu ascended to the throne as President, Kambwili would of course be rewarded with a lofty portfolio as Information Minister and chief government spokesman. By this time, everyone believed Kambwili had now matured and probably repented from his SINS.

But lo and behold……it would just be a matter of time before the man returned to his vomit! When the President finally gave him the boot after reading through his schemes, he wasted no time spewing vile at him…….referring to the President in some of the most derogatory terms leaving many citizens with jaws dropping. Some of this would land him in court of course!

With mounting litigations tolling over his head and a floundering business bearing pressure on him, Imbwili would be left with little option but to crawl back to the ruling party……egg on the face!

Of course he’s to find favour in the eyes of those he had ridiculed not so long ago. Being Imbwili ni Mbwili, he’s it at it again……taking pleasure in rubbishing a certain ethnic! And to think that he has a chartered chopper at his disposal flying around the country preaching hate speech especially during a time when we are mourning a man who taught us ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ makes you wonder whether indeed we are a Christian nation!

Now wait a minute…..isn’t this the same man as leader of NDC who drove many miles to go and apologize to chiefs in Southern province for his hate crusade against Tongas….claiming that he was just being used by powers that be? Anyway, Imbwili can never changes its spots no matter the charade. He can never learn! One would wonder what sort of things he still says about the President in private while he eulogizing him in public.

Kambwili is a danger to this nation…….He’s sowing seeds of acrimony and discord. Once this country is set on fire, he will simply jump on a plane to join his dear wife in the UK. The sooner the President discredits and withdraw him from his campaign team, the better!

Scam in which some unscrupulous traders are illegally selling COVID-19 test kits unearthed

The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) in collaboration with Health Professions Council of Zambia(HPCZ) and the Zambia Police (ZP) have unearthed a scam in which some unscrupulous traders are illegally selling COVID-19 test kits.

The suspects whose names have been withheld for investigation purposes were arrested and charged for illegal placement and sale of allied substances on the market without Marketing Authorisation and import authorisation granted by the Authority. The suspects have since been released on police bond pending court appearance.

In this regard, members of the public are advised to be wary of unscrupulous traders dealing illegally in COVID-19 test kits whose quality can not be ascertained and are likely to produce false positive or false negative test results. Members of the general public are therefore advised to seek COVID-19 test services at health facilities recommended by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Furthermore, members of the public and health institutions are encouraged to report any suspected substandard COVID-19 diagnostic test kits to the Authority.

In another incident, the Authority has seized Ivermectin Tablets from Healthcure Pharmacy Limited in Lusaka Province.

The proprietor of the affected retail outlet has since been warned and cautioned for illegal sale and placement of Ivermectin on the market without Marketing Authorization and will appear in court soon.

In Zambia, Ivermectin has been registered and authorised for veterinary use only as there is no conclusive clinical evidence to support the use of Ivermectin for prevention or treatment of COVID-19.

Micho Relishing Patson’s Zambian Flavour In The EPL

Chipolopolo coach Milutin ‘Micho” Sredojevic says Patson Daka has given the country something to look forward to in the coming football season.

Patson on June 30 completed a five-year deal with English Premiership side Leicester City from Austrian Bundesliga champions RB Salzburg.

Micho backed the 22-year-old Chipolopolo strike to shine with the 2015/16 English champions adding that he was the ideal player for Brendan Rodgers philosophy.

“It is a stepping stone and I believe he is not to just going to play an episode role in the English Premiership but also to stay there and make a significant stamp and put Zambia properly on the football map of the world because we know how English football followed,” Micho said.

Patson arrival at Leicester makes him the third Chipolopolo striker to grace the EPL after Collins Mbesuma at Portsmouth and Emmanuel Mayuka at Southampton.

ECZ suspends Kambwili indefinitely from taking part in Campaigns

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has suspended indefinitely Patriotic Front (PF) Member Chishimba Kambwili from participating in campaigns.

ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patric Nshindano says the Commission has noted with concern the breach of the electoral code of conduct by Mr. KAMBWILI’s use of hate speech and holding of campaign rallies despite the guidance provided.

Announcing the development during a virtual press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. NSHINDANO said the use of language which incites violence or hate speech will NOT be tolerated by the Commission as it is against the electoral code of conduct.

He further said holding of rallies undermines efforts being made by stakeholders to stem the spread of Covid 19 and that it puts the country at risk.

Mr. Nshindano said the Commission has several cases that it is reviewing and has appealed to all political parties to refrain from the use of hate speech.

He urged political parties to ensure they have a level playing field in which they conduct their activities and that it is not the wish of the Commission to operate on a sanction basis.

Mr. Nshindano said the Commission will continue to encourage all political parties to adhere to the electoral code of conduct as the country heads to the August polls.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kambwili has described his suspension as unfair.

Mr. Kambwili said that the ECZ must have afforded him a hearing to exculpate himself before meeting out the suspension as that is what the rules of natural justice demand.

He told ZNBC News in Lusaka today that he will appeal to the ECZ administratively to reverse its decision.

The ECZ has suspended Mr. KAMBWILI for allegedly practicing hate speech.

UCZ Boys Brigade honour KK

The United Church of Zambia Boys Brigade which was pioneered by first Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda has held a memorial service in honour of the late Head of State for imparting discipline and sense of responsibility among youths in the church.

Secretary to the Cabinet, Simon Miti who was represented at the event by Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Elias Kamanga says Dr. Kaunda was a selfless and exceptional leader who demonstrated his ability to touch the lives of many people from various parts of the globe.

ZANIS reports that Dr. Miti observed that Dr. Kaunda personally facilitated the official introduction of the Boys Brigade which he diligently served until 2015 when retired and was bestowed with a life membership.

“It is true that the memories of the late Kaunda will live on as his impact extends across various generations who have gone through the mentorship of Boys Brigade which to date has pronounced responsible men in our society who have contributed to the development of not only Zambia but the world as a whole,” he said.

He observed that the Late Dr. Kaunda was committed to ensuring that the organisation founded in Zambia remained relevant as an effective youth development tool that was able to complement government efforts.

Dr. miti encouraged churches that have not embraced the Boys Brigade training programme to engage in the various brigade structure and be part of the organisation which gives boys a safe place and life changing experiences as the country honours the Kenneth Kaunda’s youth ministry.

And Boys Brigade president, Maxwell Sichula noted that Dr. Kaunda contributed to the growth of the Boys Brigade by providing a holistic approach in building a true Christian character of the boys.

Mr Sichula explained that the facilitation for the introduction of the Boys Brigade was initiated when the late former Head of State was on a trip to the United Kingdom(UK) during the time he was negotiating for the independence of the country.

“Every time he travelled, he went to church and at this particular time he attended St. Paul’s Methodist Church where he was received with a guard of honour by the Boys brigade. He was touched with what he saw and he immediately put in motion the start of the Boys Brigade in Zambia,” he said.

And National Patron, Andrew Kamanga who took over from the late founding father said the Boys Brigade which started small is now replicated in all corners of the country.

Mr Kamanga stated that the Boys Brigade decided to name the training centre in Kaniki in Ndola Kenneth Kaunda in honour of the pioneer of the youth interdenominational grouping.

He pledged to continue with the ideals that were pioneered by the late Dr. Kaunda.

The Boys Brigade which has a membership of more than 35,000 was founded in 1965.

Fisheries coordinator calls for increased investment in fish farming

1

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Mufumbwe district has called for more investment in fish farming so as to meet the unceasing demand for fish in the area.

Mufumbwe District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator, Bonna Zulu told ZANIS in an interview that the supply of fish from local water bodies and a few fish ponds does not meet the demand for fish in the district hence the need for more investment in aquaculture.

Mr. Zulu said apart from being endowed with a number of water bodies, Mufumbwe is also blessed with good soils for the construction of fish ponds.

“Mufumbwe has a lot of water resources which are necessary for the fish farming. We have good soils; good soils will naturally make it cheaper to construct fish ponds,” he said.

He added that the key ingredients for feed formulation are readily available as there are a lot of crops in the area.

“We have a lot of feed resources from the many crops that are grown in the district which can be used for feed formulations, as you know feeding is one of the important aspects in fish production,” he explained.

Mr. Zulu said his department has qualified staff who are readily available to assist farmers in the fish farming projects.

He has since encouraged local people who are interested in fish farming to visit his office so that they can be empowered with more knowledge regarding aquaculture activities.

He stressed that another major aspect, which works to the advantage of investors in fish farming, is the centrality of Mufumbwe among other districts in North-western province.

Mr. Zulu noted that the fact that Mufumbwe is surrounded by other districts makes the area an ideal destination for investment as they can easily sell their fish in surrounding districts if need be.

“The location of Mufumbwe entails that investors can easily take their produce to neighbouring districts should that time come. But for now, the fact is that there is a lot of demand for fish in Mufumbwe,” he said.

Apart from having a number of water logged plains that can be used for the construction of fish ponds, Mufumbwe has a lot of water bodies which include Musonweji, Kabompo, Lalafuta, Munyambala and Mufumbwe rivers as well as several streams such as Kifue and Matushi coupled with wet lands.

Promotion of tribalism amounts to discrimination under the Constitution, LAZ warns Politicians

27

Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has expressed deep concern at the continued issuance of tribal remarks by politicians as they jostle for support ahead of the upcoming Presidential and General Elections.

In a statement released to the media today and signed by Sokwani Peter Chilembo, the nonary secretary, LAZ said that the promotion of tribalism amounts to discrimination under the Constitution and has the further unfortunate effect of increasing the political tensions and threatens peace in the country before, during and after elections, which LAZ, with other stakeholders has continued to promote.

Citing Former Cabinet Minister and member of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), Mr. Chishimba Kambwili as an example captured on a video making tribal remarks against Tonga speaking people, LAZ said that promosotion of tribalism is also an affront to citizens’ rights and liberties.

Below is the full statement

PRESS RELEASE BY THE LAW ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA

(CONDEMNING TRIBAL REMARKS BY POLITICIANS)

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), has observed, with deep concern, the continued issuance of tribal remarks by politicians as they jostle for support ahead of the upcoming Presidential and General Elections. Former Cabinet Minister and member of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), Mr. Chishimba Kambwili, for instance, has been captured on video making tribal remarks against Tonga speaking people.

Buoyed by its objects under section 4 of Law Association of Zambia Act, Chapter 31 of the Laws of Zambia, its founding statute, LAZ is duty bound to promote the rule of law in the conduct of national affairs, including election campaigns.

Non-discrimination is one of the named national values and principles under Article 8 of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act, 2016 and it is LAZ’s settled expectation that political players, irrespective of which party they hail from, will conduct their campaigns for election to public offices, established by the same Constitution, in a manner that respects the values and principles espoused thereunder.

Promotion of tribalism amounts to discrimination under the Constitution and has the further unfortunate effect of increasing the political tensions and threatens peace in the country before, during and after elections, which LAZ, with other stakeholders has continued to promote. It is also an affront to citizens’ rights and liberties.

Tribal remarks, in any form, must be avoided especially coming at the backdrop of the passing of the first Republican President, His Excellency Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda, who dedicated his life to the promotion of non-discrimination in our famed national motto of “One Zambia, One Nation”.

LAZ therefore, calls on Mr. Kambwili and all other political players to desist from uttering tribal remarks. LAZ remains committed to seeking the advancement of the rule of law and of the rights and liberties of citizens as well as entrenching constitutionalism and democratic practices in the country.

He further described her as a reservoir of knowledge in the public service administration who will be remembered for pioneering the development of programs and policies that gave a new dimension of service delivery at the Ministries of Lands, Tourism and Community development.

“She ably served with a rare sense of passion, the challenge now remains with the current generation of public service workers to ensure the works of such a humble and dedicated citizen are emulated for the good of our people,” Dr. Masiye said.

Siavonga councils revokes 9 trading licenses

1

The Siavonga town council has with immediate effect withdrawn nine trading licenses for bars and night clubs that failed to adhere to the Covid-19 health guidelines.

Council Public Relations Officer Gwendolyn Mchenga said the named night clubs and bars have violated the directive by government on conducting business during the stipulated period between 18:00hrs to 22:00hrs from Friday to Sunday.

Ms. Mchenga told ZANIS in an interview that the licenses were withdrawn during an enforcement operation on Covid-19 conducted by council public health inspectors and the Zambia Police Service.

She has identified the traders affected as those found in Mitcho, the central business district, Matinangala and Kaleya areas.

And Ms. Mchenga has observed with disappointment that both patrons and bar owners lacked strict adherence to Covid-19 golden rules.

“Our officers also observed little or no adherence to the Covid-19 golden rules, which causes high risks of spreading the disease,” she said.

She has since warned proprietors of bars, taverns and night clubs to ensure that they observe the directive to avoid being inconvenienced.

Government has directed bars, taverns, casinos and night clubs to operate from 18:00 to 22:00 hours for 21 days to avert the escalating number of Covid-19 cases.

Kamanga urges Zambians to take Covid-19 vaccine

6

Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga has appealed to people who missed the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination programme to take advantage of the next one, which will have about three million doses.

The next consignment of the Covid-19 vaccines is yet to arrive in the country.

Speaking during the second dose vaccination day at the provincial administration, Mr. Kamanga noted with concern how difficult it was to convince people to get vaccinated when the vaccination programme started.

He has since urged people to take the Covid-19 vaccination process with utmost seriousness.

“It is very unfortunate that some of our people are not taking this Covid-19 vaccination seriously for this is a matter of life and death,” he said

He added that currently, the vaccination process is only for those that took the first dose.

“Am excited to get my second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as I got the first dose about a month ago,” he said

Mr. Kamanga said medical indications show that people who have received the vaccine will not fall into critical conditions if they get infected with Covid-19 compared to those who are not yet vaccinated.

The Provincial Permanent Secretary said the third wave of Covid-19 is claiming a lot of lives in an unpreceded manner.

“We are getting thousands of positive cases per day, fatalities are in double digits and sooner than later we will be getting fatalities in triple digits if we don’t do something about this and clearly, we are not doing anything about what is happening and it’s extremely worrying,” he explained

Mr. Kamanga added that it was worrisome that some people are still patronizing bars and nightclubs unprotected while others are in serious conditions requiring oxygen in hospitals.

“We are losing lives in our workplaces, families and communities, why is it that our people continue to be this irresponsible,” he asked.

He explained that if people continue to be negligent, the government will be forced to impose very drastic measures because it has a responsibility to protect the lives of citizens.

He said some people need to be dealt with because their recklessness will cost the lives of others who are keen on following the stipulated Covid-19 health guidelines.

Meanwhile, Christone Mukuka, a Covid-19 survivor, reiterated that the disease is real hence people should take it with extreme seriousness.

“It is by God’s grace that am alive today because my situation was very critical,” he said.

And Annie Mwila, a fish trader at Chawama market, said everyone needs to do the right thing that will help curb the spread of Covid-19.

“People should always wear masks all the time, wash hands or sanitize,” she said.
