Zlatko KrmpoticCoach Zlatko Krmpotic says Zesco United were unlucky to be eliminated from the CAF Confederations Cup by SuperSport United on away goals rule.
Zesco on Saturday conceded the second goal just one minute before full time to draw 2-2 with SuperSport in the return match of the quarterfinals played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The score-line was 2-1 with a minute left on the clock when Thuso Phala equalised – a week after the first leg had finished goalless in South Africa.
“This is a luck issue. We had in the first half opportunities to score. Maybin Kalengo missed about four good opportunities. Jesse Were and Patrick Kongolo also failed to score,” Krmpotic said.
“Congratulations to my players they played well. Congratulations to our opponents they were good,” he said.
The Serbian trainer added that Zesco must move on after their elimination from the Confederation Cup.
Zesco United keeper and captain Jacob Banda described his team’s exit from the competition as heart-breaking.
“It is heart-breaking. As players we have to blame ourselves. We lacked concentration in the last minute,” a visibly shaken Banda mourned.
“We are now going to focus on the league. Fight hard and get back to the continental competition,” he said.
Zesco are shifting attention to Wednesday’s delayed Barclays Cup quarterfinal clash against Division One side Kitwe United at Nkana Stadium.

Moving Up Higher
One thing I’ve learned in my life is that God likes to outdo Himself. His dream for your life is so much bigger than your own. His ways are higher, and He has an appointed time of favor for your life. He is going to take you places that you never thought possible. He is going to open up doors that you never have imagined. He’s going to bring talent out of you that you didn’t even know you had. This is the time to get excited about your future! It’s time to get your hopes up because you have been chosen by the Creator of the universe. Your destiny is not determined by the economy, how you were raised or your education. Your destiny is determined by Almighty God.
Today, I want to encourage you to set your thoughts on things above. It’s time for you to move up higher to a new level. The good news is that God has already laid out victory before you. I declare that in the days ahead, you’re going to stumble into it. Get ready because God is going to raise you up into the life of blessing He has prepared for you!
A Prayer for Today
“Father God, thank You for this day. Thank You for the good plan You have for me. I believe it is my time of set favor; it’s my time to rise higher; it’s my time to experience every breakthrough and every blessing You have in store for me in Jesus’ name! Amen.”

FINANCE Minister Felix Mutati gives his speech during the official opening of the Batoka Gorge Hydroelectric Power, Investors Conference at David Livingstone Safari Lodge in Livingstone yesterday. Far left sited are Vice President Inonge Wina (l) and Zimbabwean Finance and Economic Development Patrick Chinamasa.
Finance Minister Felix Mutati met with the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) on Thursday 21 st September, to discuss some expected salient agriculture matters in the budget.
The ZNFU and its affiliate associations briefed the minister that it was grateful that government has identified agriculture to drive the country’s diversification agenda, but needs incentives to actualize the agenda.
Leading the ZNFU, Union president Jervis Zimba said to make agriculture the lynchpin of the economy, government should create a deliberate policy that would make agriculture competitive.
He said this would translate into lowering the cost of production, increase duty on some imported agricultural products to level the playing field with the local market, and refencing and actualizing funds that include; aquaculture fund, irrigation Fund and mechanization Fund. The ZNFU also called for investment in research and extension services and strengthening of inspectorate systems.
The Union also called for the tax incentivization of agriculture activities that would translate into increased production and improved productivity and hedge against imports that threaten to reverse growth of the local agriculture. The Union said this would spur the creation of employment locally, and in turn broaden the tax base.
The Union said to achieve most of these targets, government has to consider ‘melting away’ the red tape encountered when trying to implement these programs.
And Finance Minister, Mr. Mutati said government will do its very best to embrace issues tabled by the Union.
He, however, said he needed additional information that would be crystalized into actual activities, but maintained that these incentives would have to be a compensational, in that they should;
1. Represent a broader view of majority farmers and associations
2. Create jobs
3. Bring in other tax earnings, when incentives are given
“We don’t want to create ornaments instead of instruments,” Mr. Mutati said.
He asked the Union to submit the additional information before the close of business on Thursday so that his team could ‘assimilate’ critical areas from farmers.
He said government has now focused on domestic revenue collection and is cutting down on borrowing and wanted to avoid ‘enemies’ to this process that include anti-tax and calls for exemptions.
MINISTER of Information and Broadcasting Services Kampamba Mulenga
Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Ms Kampamba Mulenga has said that the cabinet meeting held today was not to discuss Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili’s claims of corruption in Government.
In a statement made available to the media, Ms Mulenga, who is also the Government’s chief Spokesperson said that Saturday’s cabinet meeting was necessitated by the fact that the 2018 National Budget will be presented next Friday and it is inevitable that Cabinet meets to review and approve it.
Below is the full statement
Republic of Zambia
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services
STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING SERVICES AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON, HON. KAMPAMBA MULENGA ON HON. CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI’S CLAIM
23rd September, 2017
Government finds Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili’s recent flurry of accusations against Government outlandish and a case of sour grapes.
Yesterday’s statement by Mr Kambwili that Cabinet was meeting to discuss his claims of corruption in Government was yet another example of an unsubstantiated claim by a former Minister who seems to be seeing things using new lenses after leaving Government.
Just to put the record straight – yes, Cabinet met today and to the uninitiated, it is not strange that Cabinet met today or that Cabinet met on a Saturday. Cabinet can meet any day and after today’s meeting there will be another meeting next week because Cabinet meets weekly as Mr Kambwili, an erstwhile Minister knows and can attest to.
Today’s meeting, to the contrary, was necessitated by the fact that the 2018 National Budget will be presented next Friday and it is inevitable that Cabinet meets to review and approve it.
Therefore, Mr Kambwili’s information was yet again misinformation meant to mislead the people of Zambia.
But being a Zambian, Mr Kambwili should know that Zambians are not gullible and they are good at sieving fibs from facts and very soon the MP’s political rhetoric will be ignored with the contempt it deserves if that is not already the case.
Many people have questioned why Mr Kambwili’s venom is being spat now when he never saw anything wrong when he served in Government, and they are right to question this sudden ill feeling about Government.
Rainbow Party General Secretary Wynter Kabimba is right when he is quoted in the media as saying Mr Kambwili will help the country if he backs his corruption allegations with evidence.
Government is saying if Mr Kambwili indeed has evidence, he should go to the relevant security wing so that his claims are investigated. It is not enough, as a seasoned politician, to scandalise people baselessly.
His Excellency the President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has already encouraged those with evidence over corrupt claims to report to the Anti-Corruption Commission but it seems Mr Kambwili finds greater joy in scandalising people through the media.
Mr Kambwili maybe a good news source for some media houses for now but it will not be long before they too realise how dangerous it is to follow the former Minister’s trajectory of defaming people because they will end up in court with him and he will not pay for their legal costs.

He was later appointed as Private Secretary at State House and due to his good quality of work and commitment to duty, Kasanda was appointed Ambassador- Special duties in 1975, by the then first Republican President Kenneth Kaunda.
Ambassador Kasanda progressed rapidly through the ranks from the entry position of Administrative Officer to the position of Permanent Secretary in 13 years of service. Apart from that, he served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, not once but twice.
During his tour of duty he served as ambassador in five foreign missions, which are Russia, Germany, France, China and the United States of America where he was Zambia’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York.

African leaders, the donor community and other stakeholders have reaffirmed their commitment to a broad-based international partnership to industrialize the continent in a socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable manner.
The African Development Bank was represented by Amadou Hott, the Bank’s Vice-President for Power, Energy, Climate and Green Growth noted that Africa share of global manufacturing has stagnated below 2 percent over the last decade.
This is according to a press statement made available to ZANIS by African Development Bank Group Principal Communication Officer Jennipher Patterson in Lusaka today.
Ms. Patterson revealed that unemployment and poverty are serious concerns for the continent, where more than 70 percent of the working age population is unemployed or has no job security, prompting the UN to declare 2016-2025 as the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa (IDDA III).
Earlier in 2016, the AfDB developed together with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization( UNIDO ) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) an ambitious Industrialize Africa strategy that aims at more than doubling the continent’s industrial Gross Domestic Product ( GDP ).
Ms. Patterson said in the statement that President Lungu was proud to be associated to the event and placed value on the role played by the organisations to work closely with Africa to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development in the continent.
The Zambian President noted , according to Ms. Patterson, that the African continent has witnessed significant changes in policy orientation with more emphasis placed on building productive capacities in order to take advantage of opportunities emerging from the global economy.
Ms. Patterson stated that many African countries have restructured their economies and have embraced liberal economics and trade policies to support development strategies however, these reforms have come with their own challenges, including the influx of imported commodities and unfortunately closure of industries with consequential job losses.”
She said during the meeting, African leaders and development partners reiterated the importance of industrialization to eradicate poverty and to ensure that Africa’s fast-growing population yields its demographic dividend.
Ms. Patterson explained that Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Haile Mariam Desalegn revealed that the lack of skills is the major problem in Africa with an integrated industrial strategy African states will hopefully mobilize funds, build the capacity of local employment and promote small, medium enterprises with domestic development projects.
