FAZ Approves Five Foreign Player Quota System

2

FAZ delegates have approved the introduction of a quota system in the Premier League during Saturday’s delayed annual general meeting held in Kabwe.

“The vote ends the long-standing debate to the introduction of the quota system that goes as far back as 2020.Explained in its simplest form, the new quota system requires the Zambia Premier League clubs to register five foreign players in their teams,” the statement added.

Zesco United chief executive officer Richard Mulenga has welcomed the move while calling on FAZ to effect a compliance date.

A good road network is cardinal for development – VEEP

31

Vice President Inonge Wina has expressed happiness with the progress made on the construction of some developmental projects such as the Tazara-Chisanga taking place in Kasama district.

Vice President Inonge Wina emphasizes that a good road network is cardinal in connecting places such as schools, health facilities and markets.

Speaking when she inspected the construction works of the Tazara-Chisanga road, Mrs. Wina says the road will help the community to have easy access to important facilities.

Mrs. Wina has since appealed to the contractor engaged to work on the road to finish the project within the stipulated time frame.

“The progress made so far is very good and I urge you to continue working hard, ” she said

Mrs. Wina later inspected the Chikumanino bus station where she was also impressed with the works that have been done.

” It is such projects that help to foster development that government will continue working on by ensure that people have access to good services”, she stated

The Vice President further reaffirmed government’s commitment to continue fostering development to all parts of the country

And Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe said the construction of the Tazara-Chisanga road will help to alleviate the challenges people used to face especially during the rainy season.

Mr Chanda , who was part of the Vice President’s entourage , expressed confidence that once the road is complete and a bridge is put up, people will have easy access to all important places in the area.

Meanwhile Northern Province Permanent Secretary Royd Chakaba has appealed to Kasama residents to be patient as the contractor is working on the road.

Mr. Chakaba said all projects will be commissioned once works are done and are handed over to the government.

SESTUZ advises the general public to report schools resisting COVID 19 guidelines

6

Secondary Education Teachers Union (SESTU) has called on the general public to report to any Union or District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) offices any school not following the COVID- 19 protocol.

Copperbelt Secretary Hanyinda Dubeka says members of the general public are the best positioned to inform his union on what is happening in schools in their area as e they are based in those areas.

Mr. Dubeka said it was gratifying that since government allowed the re-opening of schools during the second wave of the pandemic early this year, most teachers have been observing the COVID 19 guidelines .

“The Unions have been going round in schools to check on the COVID- 19 compliance levels and so far most of the schools have been 100 percent in compliance”, he said.

Mr. Dubeka was reacting to some complaints from some members of the public on some schools not following the COVID 19 guidelines .

He said some learners tend to forget about the COVID 19 preventive measures as they knock off from schools hence the need for parents and guardians to remind them.

Meanwhile the Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) has emphasized on the need for pupils to engage in physical fitness during this COVID-19 pandemic.

BETUZ general Secretary Henry Sinkala said teachers should take keen interest in ensuring that learners are actively engaged in physical fitness activities as it will help boast their immune systems

Mr Sinkala said physical fitness will not only boost the pupil’s immune systems but also improve their concentration span.

PF will treat Lawyer John Sangwa as a political opponent wherever he is found-Kennedy Kamba

The Patriotic Front (PF) Lusaka Leadership has directed all its members to turn out in numbers and show solidarity to President Edgar Chagwa Lungu when he appears before the Court whenever a date is set for hearing in his Presidential petition.

PF Lusaka Province Chairman MCC. Kennedy Kamba has also directed party members to treat the Lawyer John Sangwa as a political opponent wherever he is found.
Chairman Kamba said the party is not happy and is concerned on the misconduct being exhibited by Mr. Sangwa.

He said Mr. Sangwa is now playing politics as the matter of President Edgar Lungu’s illegibility has already been dealt with by the Constitutional Court.
He stated that the party will therefore treat him as a politician because he is politicizing the issue.

“What he is trying to do is politicize the matter when it has already been dealt with by the Constitutional Court. Therefore, We will no longer entertain this nonsense by John Sangwa,” he said.

“All our party Structures in Lusaka should come in numbers at the court premises when the matter comes up in Court and support our leader President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Our members should come for the hearing whenever the Court sets the date.”

MCC. Kamba said the party is concerned by the misconduct Mr. Sangwa who seems to be extremely frustrated and bitter to an extent that he wants the law and the electoral code to be changed to suit his own selfish agenda.

“We know very well that people like John Sangwa who claims to be a renowned lawyer and a few individuals have formed a cartel to try by whatever means possible to drag President Lungu in the mud and try to paint him black in the eyes of Zambians when the Constitution was clear that he was eligible to stand,” he added.

He said the party will not allow President Lungu’s name to be dragged in Sangwa’s bitterness who has now gone to an extent of trying to compel the Court and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to change the law to suit his bitterness and frustrations.

“We want to state clearly here that we will defend the Presidency and President Lungu. Even when the case comes up, we will be there to give solidarity,” he said.

Chairman Kamba further stated that John Sangwa and some political party leaders have been attempting to influence the minds of people into falsely believing that President Lungu was not eligible to stand in 2021.

“These people who are claiming that President Lungu is not eligible to stand are just trying to bring unnecessary debate and confusion because the Highest Courts of the land, the Constitutional Court interpreted the law accordingly and cleared President Lungu that he only served one term,” he said.

The Lusaka PF Boss has since warned the ANTI-ECL Cartel to stop the malice because they are embarrassing themselves and will not be taken kindly by the ruling party.

He has since urged Sangwa and all those who are excited and making weird claims about President Lungu’s eligibility, to begin to demonstrate sobriety because their hatred for the Head of State will not take them anywhere.

UPND denies Ferrying Supporters from other Provinces for HH’s Nomination Day

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has dismissed allegations against the party that had feeried supporters from other parts of the country to render support to the party’s presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema’s nomination day.

Reaching to the allegations, party secretary-general Batuke Imenda described the allegations as falsehood being spread by the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in their desperation to hoodwink the Zambian people

Below is the full statement

We would like to sympathise with the Patriotic Front (PF) who, in their desperation to hoodwink the Zambian people, are spreading falsehoods that the cadres who are stranded at the Intercity bus terminus in Lusaka belong to the United Party for National Development (UPND).

The PF, the Zambia Police, the Electoral Commission of Zambia and the Intercity management know too well that the stranded cadres were ferried by independent presidential candidate Masuwa Kalabi to help him finish the supporter verification exercise.

He then abandoned them after he was disqualified.

As the UPND, we sympathise with the people who were left in the cold.

But we are shocked that instead of helping these people return to their homes, the PF, which claims to be a caring party, is using them for political mileage.
This is uncalled for and inhuman.

It is clear that the PF have resorted to cheap propaganda following the massive support the UPND Alliance is enjoying throughout the country.
The UPND supporters who turned up at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre to witness President Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate Madam Mutale Nalumango file their nominations on Wednesday were not mobilised by anyone.

Those hundreds of Zambians went to Mulungushi on their own because they are fed up with the bad governance of the PF.
The peaceful gathering was a message to the PF that enough is enough.

But, in their usual style, the PF are trying to belittle Zambian people and maligning President Hichelema’s name.

I urge every Zambian who wants to see change not to allow themselves to be detracted from our mission, which is to liberate Zambia from the PF.

Chief Chitimukulu affirms his support for the appointment of Professor Nkandu Luo as running mate For President Lungu

40

Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba-speaking people has affirmed his support for the appointment of Professor Nkandu Luo as running mate to President Edgar Chagwa Lungu ahead of the August 12 General Elections.

Paramount Chief Chitimukulu has said the Bemba speaking people of Northern, Muchinga and Luapula Provinces are grateful to President Lungu for appointing one of their own to such a high ranking political position.

The Mwine Lubemba said this when Republican Vice-President Her Honour Mrs Inonge Mutukwa Wina paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Mungwi District of Northern Province.
The traditional leader said Professor Luo needed a lot of support to guide her in her new role and much more when she becomes Vice-President of Zambia hence has called on Her Honour the Vice-President to guide her as she embarked on her new journey in the political arena.

“I am very grateful to President Lungu for appointing one of my own children to act as his running mate and ultimately become the Vice-President of this country after the August 12 general elections,” he said. “Our daughter needs all the support she can get to perform accordingly in her new role of presidential running mate as well as when she becomes vice president.”

He also said he was particularly grateful and honoured that Professor Luo saw it fit to visit and seek blessings from him at his palace first thing after being entrusted with such a critical responsibility to the party in government and apparently to the nation after the August elections.
And Paramount Chief Chitimukulu has pledged to support the candidature of Professor Luo as President Lungu’s running mate saying she was a daughter of the family that he could not neglect when she needed him.

He has since assured the Vice-President that he was going to do everything possible to ensure that President Lungu and Professor Luo emerged victorious in the upcoming August polls.

Meanwhile, the Mwine Lubemba has said he and his founded Movement for Voter Sensitisation (MVS) was going to hit the ground running to sensitise the general public about the need to cast their votes in August.

He said it was disappointing that the three provinces in Luapula, Muchinga and Northern Provinces recorded less number of votes combined as compared to Southern Province alone in the previous elections.

The traditional leader said he was particularly concerned with the high levels of voter apathy in Luapula Province where less than 50 per cent of the total l registered voters managed cast their votes in the previous election.

Meanwhile, Her Honour the Vice President Mrs Inonge Mutukwa Wina said it was encouraging to see the traditional leader taking a bold step in conducting voter sensitisation.
“We have been encouraged to note that Paramount Chief Chitimukulu is spearheading a campaign to champion voter education in the face of rampant voter illiteracy in Zambia,” Mrs Wina said.

Mrs Wina has further called on other traditional rulers in the country to emulate the Mwine Lubemba by complementing government efforts of promoting voter education to the Zambian people.

Her Honour the Vice-president was also accompanied by PF Member of the Central Committee and National Mobilisation Committee Vice-Chairperson MCC Hon Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, MCC Hon Jean Kapata, MCC Hon Sylvia Chalikosa, PF Kasama Central aspiring Member of Parliament Sibongile Mwamba, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe and various PF officials from Kasama District.

Reinforce Ban on Mukula with Statutory Instrument, Staff Supplement, Funding and Tree Planting Programme

10

By CHALIAFYA Katungula

Forests support incredible biodiversity and natural resources, these are the homes of many indigenous peoples, and provide livelihoods for millions of people. Unfortunately, our forests are disappearing rapidly. Forests have been destroyed by exploitation for timber, for agriculture, mining and urban growth. Much of this destruction is caused by illegal logging, trees are being cut down and their timber processed used in the country or exported, without legal processes being followed. Though there is a legitimate timber industry it is this illegal logging that is most damaging.

From a professional forestry perspective, we normally say don’t exploit a resource for which you have no inventory to determine stocking in a potential concession area, we do not know how much Mukula is in the forest, how then do we go ahead and continue harvesting the same? You can only manage if you know the numbers of what you are dealing with thus if you have no basic information then you basically cannot attain management of any particular resource.

The issue of unsustainable logging and Mukula trading makes sad reading in this country because we know that the Government is and has been under pressure from timber traders in pushing for the ban on Mukula to be lifted. They usually amplify the revenues which the Government loses by keeping the ban on while disregarding the conservation aspect.

Well as professionals our stance is based on the conservation balance sheet and thus the logging or trading of this resource should be discontinued until we undertake a comprehensive inventory of the resources in the forests. Can the merchants tell us how many trees of Mukula they have replanted or replaced in their course of business in let’s say the last ten years? If you want to trade in Mukula, grow your own!! In fact the timber traders should take advantage of the provision in the Forestry Act No. 4 of 2015 to set up private forests or stands of Mukula. We stand with the Government and would like to urge the authorities to maintain the ban on Mukula harvesting and trade.

Specifically, we support the stance taken by the honourable Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in January 2021 where she assured the nation that the ban on Mukula will not be lifted and encouraged traders to explore other lesser known species. However, on 12 th March 2021, an advertisement was released by the Zambia Forest and Forest Industries Cooperation (ZAFFICO) announcing that it has been mandated by Government to purchase legally harvested Mukula logs from licensed concession holders and holders of felling permits. Further, the Corporation stated that it has been mandated to sale the said logs to entities legally engaged in value addition to the Mukula logs within the country as well as exporting to international markets.

However, ZAFFICO is offside!! There is inconsistency and deviation from what the right honourable Minister of Lands and natural resources pronounced earlier on in January this year. We strongly feel the ban was in good faith but the action by ZAFFICO will not help our conservation efforts or the conflict that this trade brings. ZAFFICO should thus halt the current purchase of Mukula which they have embarked on countrywide, we have no capacity to prevent what they term legally harvested Mukula from comingling with illegally harvested Mukula.

Questions that need to be addressed with regard to the issue of Mukula are as follows;- Have we filled the forestry department establishment in terns of personnel to monitor logging or this trade? Has funding to aid operations of the department improved so as to address the challenge that this issue brings? This trade does not just cause environmental damage, but deprives our Country of millions in lost revenue, causes loss of livelihoods to forest dwelling communities, and leads to other criminal activities. It also undermines the rule of law, giving people less faith and willingness to support Government which fails them in curbing such activities

It has come to our attention as concerned forestry professionals that some unscrupulous people and authorities have continued to illegally export Mukula despite the ban. The aforementioned have taken advantage and abuse the transit deal between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia to export Mukula logs using the Nakonde border and other exist points.

All along Mukula from Luapula province and other parts of the country has been exiting the country using this scheme despite the ban. The harvesting of Mukula had and has continued being done in SECRECY and logs harvested locally were being comingled with those in transitfrom Congo DR. The fact of the matter is that there is possible corruption and a fraudulent scheme where documentation is generated showing that a certain number of trucks will pass through Zambia for example 45 trucks but in actual fact the number of trucks loaded from Congo DR may be 30 or 35 leaving the remainder to be comingled with Mukula that has been illegally harvested from Zambia. Clearly, such manoeuvres and schemes involve a few individuals and in most cases, ones that are highly connected.

Indeed, Corruption seems to be the main driver of illegal logging. You must note that raw or processed timber is not easily hidden, that sawmills and chainsaws need fuel and electricity, that the timber has to be transported by roads and across borders in ships. The illegal timber industry can thus only operate with the connivance of a large number of people. Without corruption to lubricate the way, illegal timber would not flow.

Going forward, we feel that pronouncing a ban on Mukula without backing of a comprehensive statutory instrument is not enough. There should always be a legal apparatus, guidelines and strategies developed to holistically address this challenge so as to reinforce the ban on Mukula. We note that the ban that had been put in place in the past and in 2017 to be specific had some loopholes, while the Forestry Department had suspended the issuance of concession licences; the aspect of concession license renewal was neglected and never addressed. This meant that the ban had merely targeted new entrants while the old concession license holders had leeway to renew their licenses upon expiry and continue operations.

We admit that in the past, forestry challenges particularly on Mukula have primarily bordered between the Government, Forestry Department and the Timber traders. The aspect of private foresters or those that are engaged in other areas has been absent. It is for this reason that we have taken an initiative to organise ourselves as forestry professionals to advocate and come up with pragmatic professional solutions and participate in the control and prevention of unsustainable timber exploitation and forestry practices. We shall thus support Government to come up with strategies on how to control and better regulate timber logging!!

We stand on the side of the conservation and believe that we should preserve this endangered species for future generations and for biodiversity purposes. We shall visit our honourable Minister of Lands and Natural Resources so that our perspective can be appreciated in public interest. In the meantime, we earnestly appeal to the Government of the Republic of Zambia to halt the purchase of Mukula until they put in place measures and modalities to support sustainable natural resource management and in this particular matter Mukula

Nkana Beat Prison Leopards to Improve Survival Hopes

0

Nkana sent a statement about their survival hopes on Saturday following a 2-1 home win over Prison Leopards at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

The victory handed third from bottom Nkana its second successive league victory from three home games in May that boosted their survival hopes with six games left to avoid demotion.

Zimbabwe defender Gilroy Chimwemwe scored and provided an assist on the day as Nkana also avenged their 2-0 first leg away loss to Prison on December 30.

Chimwemwe put Nkana ahead with a rather speculative shot from range in the 28th minute that Prison goalkeeper Charles Kalumba let in by his very own high standards.

Kalumba fumbled with the ball before spilling it and letting it roll into the back of his net to hand Nkana the lead.

But Prison’s redeemed them in the 44th minute when David Obashi was teed off by Junior Zulu to equalize to send the two teams 1-1 into halftime.

The second half was a rather untidy affair for both sides but Nkana’s 68th minute substitute Fred Tshimenga, who replaced Duke Abvuya, scored the winner in the 88th minute to ensure the vital three points

Nkana stay put at number 16 but now have 34 points and are two points behind Napsa Stars who lost 4-2 at home in Lusaka to Green Eagles on the same date.

Napsa and Nkana have six and five games left to make sure they survive the drop while Prison’s are 13th on 38 points with four games left for them to keep the duo from dragging them into the thick of the bottom four relegation fight.

Meanwhile, second placed Zanaco failed to cut leaders Zesco United’s lead from five to two points following a 2-1 home loss to demoted Kitwe United at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

League Moses Phiri put Zanaco ahead in the 29 minute with his 16th goal of the season but Rupert Musonda and Edward Lungu hit back for demoted and last placed Kitwe United in the 49th and 72nd minutes respectively.

Govt supports PWDs in politics

Government says it fully supports persons with disabilities (PWDs)’s candidature ahead of 12 August, 2021 general elections.

Comfort for National Association for Persons with Disabilities (CNAPD)-Zambia National Coordinator Freeborn Lubasi Wamupu says government through his Unit, is committed to supporting PWDs to fully participate in this year’s polls.

Mr Wamupu reasons in an interview with ZANIS that it is important for persons with disabilities to support the candidature of their fellow colleagues participating in this year’s elections.

“ Supporting PWDs involved in this year’s election will address their interests and demands and thus urged everyone to cooperate with their Provincial Coordinator, “ he said.

He added that the Comfort for National Association for Persons with Disabilities main mandate is to promote participation of Persons with Disabilities into politics.

Meanwhile, about 8, 000 persons living with disabilities and registered voters in Mongu District have vowed to support the Patriotic Front (PF) Party to give it a 100 percent vote in this year’s General Election.

Disclosing this to ZANIS in an interview, Mr Wamupu said nearly all persons living with disabilities registered as voters are set to vote for the PF THIS 12 August owing to various development projects rendered to them among them being the Social Cash Transfer scheme ( SCT).

And Mongu Patriotic Front Mayoral Candidate Bright Tombi urged the persons with disabilities to really vote for the PF considering the aid they are receiving as opposed to the opposition that is full of empty promises it cannot honour.

LAZ Concerned over the Increased incidents of the Police detaining suspects beyond the Mandated 24 hours Period without Charge

14

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has expressed grave concern over the increased incidents of the Police detaining suspects of bailable offences beyond the 24 hours stipulated in our Criminal Laws.

In a statement released to the media and signed by Honorary Secretary Sokwani Peter Chiembo, LAZ said that while Section 33 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Chapter 88 of the Laws of Zambia permits detentions for a period of only up to 24 hours, after the lapse of 24 hours, the Police are mandated to take the suspect before the appropriate Court or release the suspect on bond.

Lately, a number of opposition members have been detailed beyond the 24 hours limit without charge with the latest being United Party for National Development (UPND) Presidential Aide Mubita Nawa who got released today after spending more days than mandated by the law in detention without charge.

Below is the full LAZ statement

PRESS RELEASE BY THE LAW ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA LAZ IS CONCERNED AT INCREASED INCIDENCES OF POLICE DETAINING SUSPECTS OF BAILABLE OFFENCES BEYOND THE STIPULATED 24 HOURS

(FOR IMMEDIATE CIRCULATION TO MEDIA HOUSES)

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has noted, with grave concern, increased incidents of the Police detaining suspects of bailable offences beyond the 24 hours stipulated in our Criminal Laws.

Whilst our Laws permit the Police to take into custody a suspect, Section 33 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Chapter 88 of the Laws of Zambia permits such detentions for a period of only up to 24 hours.

After the lapse of 24 hours, the Police are mandated to take the suspect before the appropriate Court or release the suspect on bond. The Courts of Law have been categorical in holding that the Police can only arrest for offences, and has no power to arrest persons for the purposes of making inquiries. Therefore, detentions for enquiries and beyond the stipulated 24 hours are an infringement of a person’s freedom of movement guaranteed by Article 22 of the Constitution of Zambia.

In a country founded on and which thrives on the Rule of Law, of which LAZ is mandated to promote by its founding statute, wanton disregard of the Law by anyone must not be condoned.

The Rule of Law demands that every person, including the Police, must discharge their functions within the confines of the Law. In our democratic society anchored on Constitutionalism, no one is above the Law.

LAZ is of the further view that such detentions by the Police, especially on politically inclined accusations, have the potential to contribute to a negative atmosphere which should be discouraged as we go towards the 2021 General and Presidential Elections.

It is in the interest of the country for every stakeholder to play their role to contribute to peace before, during and after Elections.

LAZ has since written to the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the situation is quickly redressed.

Dated this 21 st day of May, 2021.

100 COVID-19 recorded in the last 24 hours

14

Government says it is concerned with the continued surge in COVID-19 cases with 186 cases recorded of the 7,594 tests conducted in the last 24hrs.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Kennedy Malama says the country has in the last four days recorded above 100 cases.

Dr Malama said the country recorded one new death from Kitwe involving a 37 year old male with diabetes and hypertension and his death has been classified as a COVID death.

“The breakdown of the new cases and positivity by province are as follows: Central 18 (4.5%), Copperbelt 22 (2.6%), Eastern 8 (1.0%), Luapula 2 (0.6%), Lusaka 108 (3.3%), Muchinga 1 (1.1%), Northern 9 (2.0%), North-western 7 (5.3%), Southern 5 (0.6%) and Western 6 (1.3%).

“ We saw 31 districts reporting cases in the last 24 hours, with the majority of the cases coming from Lusaka (99), Kitwe (19), Chibombo (9), Chilanga (6), and Kabwe (5). The remaining 26 districts recorded fewer than 5 new cases each,” the Permanent Secretary emphasized.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 related deaths stands at 1,267, classified as 710 COVID-19 deaths and 557 COVID-19 associated deaths.

A total of 83 discharges were recorded from both the COVID-19 isolation facilities and home management, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 91,102 (98% recovered).

Dr Malama said currently the country has 737 active cases, of whom 688 (93%) are under community management and 49 (7%) are admitted to COVID-19 isolation facilities with 10 new admissions in the last 24 hours.

“Among those admitted, 36 (73%) are on Oxygen therapy and 5 (10%) are in critical condition. Our cumulative number of doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered stands at 134,832 for both AstraZeneca and sinopharm.

“ Country men and women, the threat of the third wave in Zambia is becoming more imminent. To avert a further upsurge, we urge you to adhere to the prescribed COVID-19 prevention public health measures,” the statement read in part.

He further called on the general public to continue observing the Covid-19 guidelines in order to curb the escalation of the pandemic.

PF is still very intact in Kabushi and across the Copperbelt-Lusambo

10

Patriotic Front Kabushi Constituency Parliamentary candidate Bowman Lusambo has declared that the party is very intact going into the August general elections.

Mr Lusambo who is also PF Copperbelt Province Mobilisation Coordinator said the party is going into this year’s election without any serious competition from the opposition.

Mr Lusambo said he personally enjoys huge popularity in Kabushi and across the province which is equally the case with the party in general.

He was reacting to some videos posted on social media depicting pockets of opposition supporters flashing their party symbols as his campaign team approached.

The incident happened this week when Mr Lusambo was leading a team of PF supporters escorting Kaloko Ward candidate Florence Mwambazi who successfully filed in her nomination papers for the local government seat.

In the process, the PF supporters bumped into some opposition cadres who flashed their party symbols at the PF convoy in a true sign of coexistence among the two parties.

“The narrative being created that our convoy was booed is totally false. There is no way our people in Kabushi can even think of doing such a thing because of the love and support they always extend to us. The videos and pictures are being manipulated to show that we are losing support which is contrary to the true,” Mr Lusambo said in an interview.

Mr Lusambo said the people of the Copperbelt have immense trust in the leadership of President Edgar Lungu going by the way he has handled the mining situation.

“Mining still remains our mainstay and we have seen long periods of mining fiscal and policy stability during President Lungu’s administration which has cheered a lot of our people in the Province.

He added, “For us, Copperbelt is sealed. We will deliver the entire 22 constituencies across the Province and President Lungu and the running mate will receive over 80 percent of the votes from here.”

Mr Lusambo warned the opposition against deceiving itself and its supporters by creating popularity illusions.

“Copperbelt remains a no-go area for the opposition, the few we have are just wasting time. The people of Kabushi and the Copperbelt have no business with some of these opposition leaders because they know what they did when they had a chance to the privatize national mining assets.”

“With what they are now creating on social media, I can imagine confirm Wyatt they will forever remain Facebook politicians with no ground support, I am now inviting their propaganda journalists to accompany my team on one of our roads shows across the province so that they can have a true test of our popularity.

Time for Election Campaigns is a Serious Time and Not a Time for Courtroom Jokes, John Sangwa told

Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) Presidential candidate Sean Tembo has advised State Counsel John Sangwa to find something worthwhile to do with what he described as his clearly abundant spare time, instead of hopping from one court registry to another, filing frivolous lawsuits.

In a statement posted on social media, Mr Tembo said that the State Counsel should be advised that a time for election campaigns is a serious time and not a time for courtroom jokes.

PeP STATEMENT No.36 ISSUED ON FRIDAY, 21st MAY 2021: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

1. As Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP), we are in receipt of a lawsuit filed by State Counsel John Sangwa on behalf of the little-known Legal Resources Foundation in which our Presidential Running Mate, Mr Henry Muleya is the 3rd Respondent. Our quick perusal of the issues raised by the Petitioner drives us to the conclusion that this is a frivolous petition that is intended to waste the time of running mates and their political parties during this critical campaign period.

2. As Patriots for Economic Progress, we wish to take this opportunity to appeal to the Judiciary to come up with regulations that would protect citizens from frivolous lawsuits from otherwise mentally unstable individuals that are seeking unwarranted relevance in society. It is our submission that the court system should not be converted into a den for busybodies to harass innocent citizens.

3. As Patriots for Economic Progress, we further wish to take this opportunity to advise State Counsel John Sangwa to find something worthwhile to do with his clearly abundant spare time, instead of hopping from one court registry to another, filing frivolous lawsuits. The State Counsel should be advised that a time for election campaigns is a serious time and not a time for courtroom jokes.

Thank You and May God Bless the Good Citizens of the Republic of Zambia and Our Ailing Nation.

It’s shocking that HH had double Masks and Gloves while his supporters had none-Given Lubinda

Patriotic Front Member of the Central Committee Hon Given Lubinda has bemoaned the lack of adherence to health guidelines by the Opposition UPND that ferried their supporters to Lusaka when their leader was filling in nominations.

Hon Lubinda said the opposition UPND did not follow Covid 19 guidelines thereby putting their supporters in danger of contracting and spreading the virus.

“What is more frustrating is that people had no masks but he had double masks and gloves. If you are a leader, you are supposed to be the first one to suffer,” he said.

He said unlike Mr. Hichilema, President Lungu cares about the welfare of Zambians hence he only invited a few people to accompany him to the nomination center.
And Hon Lubinda said the party will come up with a new strategy of reaching out to people in respect of the Covid 19 health guidelines.

The former Kabwata MP and Justice Minister stated that the Party’s Secretary-General Hon. Davies Mwila has emphasized the need to respect the decision by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to ban rallies ahead of the August polls in view of the covid-19 pandemic.

He has since assured supporters that this year’s General Election will be issue based.

Hon Lubinda said the campaigns will be about showing the people what the Patriotic Front party has done for them.

He said President Edgar Lungu wants to make sure that all Zambians must be counted in all the developmental projects.

Hon Lubinda explained that President Edgar Lungu has modified the Party slogan from leaving no one behind to making every Zambian count.

He said the President is embracing every Zambian through the motto making every Zambian count.

He said the Patriotic Front members have an opportunity to ensure that Zambia continues to be a beacon of peace on the African continent.

Hon Lubinda said victory is already secured for the PF in the August polls.

“The Patriotic front is in government, come 15th august you will escort President Edgar Lungu for another swearing in,” he said.

Hon. Lubinda said this when the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) announced their resolve to support the candidature of President Lungu in the August 12 polls at the party Secretariat.
