Finance Minister Felix Mutati
FINANCE MINISTER FELIX MUTATI has arrived in Brussels Belgium for the 2017 World Customs Organisation Global Transit Conference.

Mr. Mutati, who is accompanied to Belgium by Zambia Revenue Authority [ZRA] Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda was met on arrival this afternoon by ZAMBIA’S AMBASSADOR TO BELGIUM, GRACE MUTALE KABWE.

Minister Mutati will tomorrow deliver a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the World Customs Organisation Global Transit Conference in the Belgian Capital.

The conference has been organized to launch new global customs transit guidelines and to examine tariff and non-tariff options available for passage to the business community. The initiative is expected to facilitate the reduction of the cost of cross-border business.

Addressing the receiving party from the Zambia Embassy, Mr. Mutati said the country seeks faster and more efficient cross-border trading through improvement of her transit potential and elimination of unnecessary and adverse customs burdens, “in order to contribute to the increase in trade volumes; to facilitate better inter-connectedness of the regional and global markets; and to fully integrate Zambia in the global supply chain.”

“At operational level, we need to move diligently in transforming the vision of President Edgar Lungu to create jobs through country-wide developments by ensuring that we not only eliminate impediments but also smoothen all processes that will enhance trade facilitation and reduce the cost of cross boarder business for our people,” said the Minister.

Zimbabwe dismantle Zambia

27

Zambia were dismantled 3-1 by Zimbabwe at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg to finish runner up in the 2017 Cosafa Cup.

The result was a big disappointment after reaching their first Cosafa Cup final since 2013 when they also met Zimbabwe again but were victorious with a 2-0 win as hosts in Ndola.

Knox Mutizwa put Zimbabwe ahead in the 22nd minute when he capitalized on a mistake by goalkeeper Allan Chibwe .

Zambia sneaked in the equalizer in the 39th minute through Lubinda Mundia converted a corner just a minute after replacing the injured Mike Katiba.

Zimbabwe then gave Zambia a mountain to climb when Talent Chawapiwa fired in the rebound in the 55th minute after Mutizwa had smashed the ball into the upright.

Ocean Mushure sealed the victory in the 67th minute then with an unstoppable volley.

The proclamation of article 31 will not affect the economy-Lucky Mulusa

MINISTER of National Development Lucky Mulusa
MINISTER of National Development Lucky Mulusa

MINISTER of National Development Lucky Mulusa has put to rest assertions that the economy will go haywire with the proclamation of article 31.

The Minister first emphasised that there is no State of Emergency and the proclamation of article 31 is in fact a measure to stop this from happening.

Mr Mulusa added that the proclamation would in fact build investor confidence as it was a decisive measure to nip budding security problems.

Mr Mulusa was speaking when he featured at today’s Patriotic Front Interactive Forum.

Mr Mulusa said government had realised that a few individuals were brewing anarchy and thus a decisive measure needed to be undertaken before the country had a full blown ‘Boko Haram or Al Shabab’.

“Let me first emphasise that there is no State of Emergency what exists currently as per description in the constitution is a way that will stop this from happening,” he said.

“That said the proclamation of article 31 will not affect the economy, it is a security measure to safe guard even investments.”

He said because of governments decision to curb the brewing terroristic acts spearheaded by a few individuals with the proclamation of article 31 what was being feared (anarchy) would not take place.

Mr Mulusa emphasised that speculation that the Kwacha would tumble were neither here nor there.

He gave examples of London and Paris that were currently under similar proclamations (state of emergency and threatened state of emergency) but noting there situations as being worse have still maintained a strong currency.

Mr Mulusa emphasised and concluded that Zambians should not fear that the economy would tumble but instead should learn that government wanted to ensure investment security as no investors are interested in a country with lawlessness.

UPND are ‘irretrievably on a shameless mission of embarrassment.’

Former ZANASU Vice-President Prince Ndoyi says the opposition UPND are ‘irretrievably on a shameless mission of embarrassment.’

Commenting on the trip by UPND’s top blass who visited South Africa’s opposition leader Julius Malema, Mr Ndoyi said the UPND have turned themselves into a political cannon are now shooting in all directions for political relevance internationally.

He noted that as opposed to visiting opposition political parties abroad the UPND leadership should have taken advantage of the visits by the three Presidents eho have visited the country in the last two months and asked for audience if indeed their motive is to find someone to mediate for them regarding the incarceration their leader.

Below is the full statement as Mr Ndoyi.

We want to comment on the trip by the UPND leadership to visit South Africa’s opposition leader CIC Julius Malema. It is worrisome the amount of desperation we are witnessing from the UPND in the last few months.

This is yet another failed desperate attempt to try and set a stage for themselves into international politics, as well as set a tone to portray themselves as though they have grown into international politics. The UPND must not rob Malema of the integrity he holds among South Africans.

UPND are irretrievably on a shameless mission of embarrassment. They have turned themselves into a political lose cannon, shooting in all directions for help, even from places and individuals that nobody in the world would consider.

Their actions in the past months are a thorn in the flesh of people that laid the foundations of politics in our country, people like Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Mainza Chona and others. We can’t imagine for a bit, if Anderson Mazoka were to rise today to see what his party has been reduced to, evidenced from the political immaturity they are exhibiting.

We urge the EFF not to stoop low to the levels of UPND, who in their desperation called a stooge of Hellen Zille, Mmusi Maimane to try and gain political sympathy from the international community. The move failed because Zambians from the onset understand the interests of Hellen Zille, Mmusi Maimane and their Democratic Alliance(DA) party.

Infact these are some of things President Lungu mentioned during the Press Conference that there a number of business men who want to usurp political power in Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe and our country.

We are of the view that the move by the UPND somewhat exposes them and vindicates the President, and Zambians should be weary of these moves. We urge the EFF who represent the genuine interests of South Africans not to fall into the trap of the UPND.

The EFF practices practical and logical politics, and they would be dammed if they began courting a political party that is hell bent on polarizing their own country. It is surprising that the UPND has no friendship with any sitting head of state, but have gone on rampage meeting opposition political parties.

Their aspirations for leadership and national office do not represent the interests of the indigenous Zambian people, but those of the opposition political parties in South Africa and we are confident no jokes that Zambians could not be fooled in that direction.

The UPND have entered a Political mode destructive; not only to themselves, but to the nation at large. They no longer represent the values and rich heritage upon which the Zambian politics was established.

Lastly, if the UPND are genuinely looking for people to mediate over the incarceration of their president HH, they should have taken the opportunity to talk to Presidents who have visited the country.

In the last two months, we have received three Heads Of States and we are sure President Lungu would have taken heed of any advise coming from any of the three regarding their issues. Our advise is let themcalm down and genuinely reconcile their actions over the last months with the Zambian people.

Government formally writes to the UK Government about Larry Mweetwa

THE Zambian high commission in London has formally written to the Protocol Directorate of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office expressing concern over activities of Mr Larry Mweetwa, a Zambian who lives in London.

Mr Mweetwa, a well-known sympathiser of the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema, has for a long time been issuing what the mission termed “inflammatory and subversive comments and inciting people to commit terrorism activities in Zambia”.

In a notice, the mission is further seeking audience with commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Ms Cressida Dick on what measures or actions can be taken over the activities of Mr Mweetwa.

The Zambian mission informed the British authorities that Mr Mweetwa posted a message on his Facebook page praising the acts of suspected sabotage last week which left the country’s biggest market, Lusaka City Market, gutted and thousands of traders without a livelihood.

It is not the first time that the mission is raising concern over Mr Mweetwa’s activities. The matter was brought to the attention of the British authorities in September 2016.

On Friday, Vice President Inonge Wina said that government was in the process of engaging Interpol in order to extradite Zambians in foreign countries who she said are inciting Zambians to engage in sabotage activities.

Chinsali Central Member of Parliament Kalelwe Mukosa asked the Vice President, as to whether government is considering extraditing people in the diaspora who are inciting and encouraging Zambians to engage in sabotage activities.

The Chinsali Central Constituency lawmaker said this during the Vice President’s questions session.

In her response, Ms. Wina stated that Zambia has signed agreements with foreign countries to extradite undesirable characters in order to ensure that such people are not hosted in their countries.

Government is aware of some Zambians in diaspora who are inciting people back home to engage in evil activities and urged Zambians to ignore such bad behavior and remain patriotic, the Vice President said.

Invocation of the Threatened State of Emergence constitutes abuse of power -GBM

Running Mate GBM addressing the press conference
FILE: GBM addressing the press conference

United party for national Development (UPND) Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has said that the anticipated state of emergency is only designed to silence opposition and critics in Zambia.

In a statement today, Mr. Bwalya said Edgar Lungu’s invocation of the Threatened State of Emergence is unnecessary and constitutes abuse of power designed to silence his critics and kill democracy and human rights in Zambia.

Mr. Bwalya noted it is now clear that President Lungu’s actions are premeditated and designed to strengthen the hand of dictatorship, adding that in Zambia there are adequate laws in Zambia which can be used to deal with any crime.

He stated that cases of arson can easily be dealt with under the Penal Code and other relevant pieces of legislation and it would not be prudent to declare a State of emergency to arrest arsonists.

Mr. Mwamba who is popularly known as GBM said what is required at this stage is for the police to undertake a thorough investigation and bring the culprits to book while ensuring that the Local authorities and Disaster Management Unit assist those affected by the fires to start a new life.

“What is surprising is that even before investigations are concluded, Edgar Lungu and his officials Inonge Wina , “Mwakalombe? stephen Kampyongo and Mumbi Phiri have already predetermined this case and the investigation may neither be thorough nor genuine”

“It was also shocking that Lungu could accuse the opposition of being behind these acts of arson claiming they want to compel him and PF to hold negotiations and form a government of national unity”

“To begin with, UPND has never sought and asked for discussions with PF for a Government of National Unity and we challenge him and the entire PF leadership to prove to the nation that UPND expressed interest to form a Government of National Unity”

“UPND has never and will never seek a government of national unity with a dictatorial regime. Lungu should show leadership for once and tell the nation where he got this fake information he is using to accuse the opposition of being behind the fires. If it is from the police, then he must fire his police command for incompetence or apologize to the nation”

“It is surprising that Lungu jumped to conclusions about the fires and other acts of arson without proper investigations and rushed to declare a threatened state of emergency”

We believe that the declaration of a state of emergency is not in public interest but in PF interest. The State of emergency was schemed by the PF government a long time ago. For example, in April this year Edgar Lungu warned while he was in Livingstone that he would bring a State of emergency if violence and vandalism continued” Mwamba said

UPND warns the public about official statements from the Party

United Party for National Development (UPND) Information and Publicity Chairperson Charles Kakoma has notified the general public and all media houses that all official UPND statements are only those attributed to Senior Party Members.

Kakoma said any statements published by members of UPND do so in their own capacity and do not represent the official position of the party but themselves.

Kakoma has however advised UPND members to exercise caution as they socialize on media platforms as their statements may be misunderstood and thereby dent the image of their leader, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, in particular and the entire party in general.

The UPND Information and Publicity Chairperson further implored UPND members to be cautious with what they share on social platforms to avoid finding themselves in serious problems.

“We appeal to our members take into account those that wish to twist what is worthy and what is unworthy and attribute it to our Party and our President for ulterior motives”

‘This motivation would be sufficient enough for all our valued members to take extra care what to publish” Kakoma said

Today’s Message: Constantly Speak

8

Today’s Scripture

“I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
(Psalm 34:1, ESV)

Constantly Speak

When you wake up in the morning, do you expect the goodness of God in your life? Do you set the tone of the day for success, favor and blessing with your words? Scripture tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. That’s why it’s so important to declare praises to God all throughout the day. Things may be bad all around you. People may be negative, complaining and discouraged, but don’t let that spirit rub off on you. The worse it gets, the brighter you’re going to shine. The good news is that no matter how you feel, no matter what’s going on around you, you can choose your words. There’s nothing that can stop you from constantly speaking His Word!

Today I encourage you to be determined to set the tone for your day, week, month and year by praising God and speaking words of faith over your future. Remember, when you put God first, He promises to honor you. He will pour out His favor on you and lead you into life, health, strength and blessing all the days of your life!

A Prayer for Today

“Father in heaven, I choose to bless You at all times. I choose to set the tone to receive Your favor, grace and mercy. Thank You for Your faithfulness at all times in Jesus’ name. Amen!”

President Edgar Lungu says politicians should accommodate criticism from church and learn from what makes sense.

All political players must accept criticism as part of a politician’s calling, Mr. Lungu said.

He was speaking at Christ the King Catholic Parish in Ndola yesterday when he graced the fundraising walk meant to construct houses for priests under the Ndola Diocese.

The Republican President said government will continue supporting and working with the church irrespective of what it says.

President Lungu says government does not cooperate with the church to solicit its support but merely believes in the work of the church.

Over K600,000 was raised in pledges while President Lungu pledged K750, 000 towards the project which requires a total of K500,000,000 to complete.

Saviour Chishimba Dangerously Seeking Political Martydom – Kennedy Kamba

44
PF Lusaka province chairman Kennedy Kamba captured on a mobile phone at C ity Library Polling centre in Lusaka
PF Lusaka province Youth chairman Kennedy

Lusaka, Zambia, 8TH July 2017- The video circulating of Saviour Chishimba using unpalatable language to address His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu leaves bad taste in the mouth and should be condemned by all well-meaning Zambians.

We understand that Chishimba seeks to swing President Lungu’s proclamation as per Article 31 meant to deter acts of sabotage and terrorism as the nation has witnessed into a political one to please imperialist forces bent on giving Zambia a bad name. While political pundits like Chishimba expected a full-fledged State of Emergency so they could score cheaply, they are yet to come to terms with the fact that President Lungu and his cabinet instead put in measures to protect private and public property from acts of arson and terror. We also understand that Chishimba and his friends are trying so hard to prove to their paymasters that PF is suppressing and oppressing political opponents. To make headlines, he would rather act foolishly so he can be arrested by the Police.

We wish to make a clarion call for maturity especially from some of these Opposition political parties. Chishimba is a loose cannon who is trying so hard to make a political mark. Like UPND, another failed project of imperialist forces ready to sacrifice Zambia’s image at the altar of political expediency, Chishimba will soon regret his deeds and misdeeds. Like the UPND running to every tom and dick to give Zambia a bad name, Chishimba seeks to give President Lungu a bad name, locally. Saviour Chishimba’s greatest ambition, it appears, is to be arrested so he can cry “political persecution”. Sadly, he might just hurt himself in his futile journey to attain political martyrdom.

Lastly, we call on Zambians to demand that politicians respect the Office of President because that is the highest office in the land created by the people through the constitution. The Opposition may not like the individual occupying the Presidency but they have no justifiable reason to demean it. Zambians deserve political maturity as opposed to the character assassination our democracy is being reduced to. If indeed Zambia was a dictatorship as Saviour Chishimba and his minions allege, we wonder if he could even have the courage to produce and circulate such a defamatory content. This is an abuse of Zambia’s democratic space. Further, we call on relevant law enforcers ensure there is law and order as opposed to anarchy. Democracy demands discipline and respect for authorities!
